The Sylvari Dragonhunter argument (proposing that Sylvari shouldn’t be Dragonhunters due to their existence being owed to Mordremoth) has been brought up a lot recently, but maybe we should look at it from a different angle, instead of just proclaiming how much it breaks lore.
I think Sylvari have more motivation to become Dragonhunters than any other race. Why? Because of dragons, specifically Mordremoth, Sylvari are now feared and cast out by the other races (or will be) but by becoming a Dragonhunter it sets them up with the resources to learn more about the dragons, resist Mordremoth’s corruption, and to avenge their race by helping to defeat Mordremoth.
I realize a lot of people are tired of the Sylvari spotlight, but you can’t deny the motivation is there and perfectly in line with current lore.

True, and I plan to take it myself, but for my current shout/AH build it has no place. It doesn’t really offer anything valuable for support builds and could be useful in a hybrid bunker setup, but that’s at the cost of a lot of stunbreaks, cleanse, and active defense. It definitely has its pros, but it has it cons too.
That would be nice, I don’t have to work this Friday, and I am out of town next weekend so…. sooner rather than later would be nice.
It makes more sense to be this month since in August 15th-17th is Saturday – Monday but who knows? On the other hand I feel like if it was this weekend we would have heard about it by now…
For all we know the best way to counter the new elites will be through the core classes. Besides, stop by the Guardian forums, for everyone excited about the Dragonhunter, there is someone who hates the traps/longbow style.
Another point which has been brought up on the guardian forums is that the new Wings of Resolve has about 1/5 the healing radius of the current Virtue of Resolve (240 vs the current 1200) so while it may seem great at face value, there are a lot of little things that prevent it from being a straight upgrade.
The problem is not just the name: It is the role of the name!!!
Darksyze im disappointed. You forgot to quote some irrelevant literature.
“Just because one puts out fires, does not make one a FireFighter”
“Just because one judges, does not make one a Judge?”
“Just because one sings, does not make one a singer”
“Just because one write, does not make one a writer”
“Just because one responds to medical emergencies, does not make one a Paramedic”
“Just because one treats wounds, does not make one a doctor”
“Just because one talks politicss does not make you one Politician”
“Just because one makes good plannings, does not make one a Planner”
“Just because one runs, does not makes one a runner?”
“Just because one shoots bows, does not make one a hunter?”
“Just because one shoots at ranges, does not make one a ranger”
“Just because one eats vegetables, does not make one a vegetarian”
“Just because one dances, does not make one a dancer”
“Just because one teaches, does not make one a teacher”
Just because Guardian Profession hunt dragons, makes them a Dragon Hunter?
We all will be fighting and hunting dragons would that make us all Dragon Hunters?
It make no sense right?
“If it make no sense, there’s no sense in doing it”.
Please! redesign and rename Dragon Hunter for Guardian Profession
You got it backwards. Yes, just because one sings doesn’t make him a Singer – A singer “specializes” in singing, or you could say he does it for a living. And that is why even though we all hunt dragons we aren’t dragon hunters, but the Guardians that specialize in/make a living of hunting Dragons ARE, in fact, dragon hunters. Your own example brought you down, be ashamed :p
I logged in just to +1 this
Dragoons are traditionally cavalry….how does that fit better than Dragonhunter?

I see what you mean, and it’s a good point, but consider it this way. Dragonhunters don’t need to be unique to all of Tyria, just unique to the Guardian faction. You have the traditional Guardians who believe defense is the best offense, and follow the well practiced methods of protecting the weak with their holy powers.
Then you have the Dragonhunters who have decided that’s not enough. They take a more active role in actually seeking out dragons and their minions to premptively protect Tyria. Sure other Warriors, Rangers, etc. may have the same goals, but among Guardians the ideas and methods of the Dragonhunters is unique.
I like how everyone quotes the definition of hunter but always leaves off the second half…
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hunter
2. a person who searches for or seeks something
So please tell me how that is any different than “seeker”
Alternatively you can tell me how that confines the spec to only bows and traps.
Stop posting half the argument and leaving out the points that render your claims pointless.
Well, if you want to take the definition entirely you have to take the first part too, and this is precisely the part we don’t want
This also the part you wouldn’t find in a Seeker.
It isn’t really an entire definition issue as it is an alternative definition issue. It is not at all uncommon for a word to have multiple definitions yet we keep focusing on one. However it is easy to include the whole definition.
1. This is the means/method
2. This is the concept/motivation
that applies both halves of the hunter definition.

I am pretty sure that no one is expecting them considering Anet even when out of their way to clarify that the beetle riding Hylek are not using a traditional mount system. There is no reason for mounts due to all the swiftness/movement speed bonuses, particularly combined with way points.
Also how do you have land mounts that don’t aggro mobs, then conclude that flying mounts would add flying aggro mobs?
Just because it’s a more physical or fanatic theme doesn’t make it darker at all.
I have no idea the source, but this suggests Q3 of this year:
http://i.imgur.com/Tu3G4R2.png
Take it for what you will. It coincides with the late August theories.
As has also been mentioned in every post about this….
That for cast is 2 years old and they always foreast Q3 sales increases
Except for two issues I could see it
1. You ignore that Necromancers don’t have shields so classes are not necessarily getting a weapon and skill set from their second class.
2. You left out the Revenant which will also get a specialization
Otherwise it seems legit. I think it’s safe to say that they will be taking existing skill types for all specs and won’t be adding any new skill types
If thats the case, then i dont like it.
Ill buy the Addon anyways, but it just doesnt look right.
I know that it was similar in GW1 , but i hoped for more Equality between Addon owners and non Addon Players.
To me it looks as if its going to be very difficult to seperate them in PvP.
If there was any more equality between xpac and non-xpac players, then what would even be the point of having an expansion in the first place?
I’m a guardian and I’m looking forward to playing the new specialization, name, traps and all
Names mean nothing to the devs. if it did, they would have built a game around a GvG mechanic since its the name of the game. Dragonhunter is terrible, since when does guarding something mean going out and hunting instead. keep waffling on anet.
except they aren’t Guardians now, they’ve specialized to be Dragonhunters. Besides don’t you think hunting down the biggest threat to everyone’s existence is still “guarding” Tyria, albeit a more proactive approach.
Hero points will be functionally the same as skill points are currently, you spend them to permanently unlock access to skills and traits.
It is indeed a trait reset token and it’s been useless for months now lol. You can already reset traits whenever you are out of combat.
Show me an mmo that doesn’t use RNG then we’ll talk
Just because there is a war at middle east it doesnt mean killing people is good.
I agree with OP, it is much better to feel rewarded by earning things through gameplay than by some RNG based random drop. I think Anet is taking good direction with collections here, while keeping some rng in it we have a guaranteed reward at the end of the road.
I never claimed RNG was good or bad, besides you are comparing apples to oranges with that statement. But to continue your example that you choose, regardless of whether killing people is good or bad you can’t have war without it, just like you can’t have a good loot system without RNG

Show me an mmo that doesn’t use RNG then we’ll talk
It appears to be replaced my heal on blast finish so I doubt it’ll go elsewhere.
My point being however is that there will be other build broken based on a particular stat set, will be have a chance to change our gear as a lot of effort went into something that’ll now be broken (my Engi is only one example)
But it isn’t broken, the spirit of the build still exists, in fact they have made you less dependent on a single kit while still being able to fill the same roll.
Except engineer isn’t finished, they still have 6-7 TBD traits, several of which could fit elixir infused bombs
The problem with this event has nothing to do with the event, but with the assumptions people make.
1. certain people are entitled a beta key because x The truth is no one is entitled a beta key, see below.
2. Anet should prioritize x group of players The problem with this is obvious, there is more than one group of players in any game and they need that variety to test. No one group is better qualified to beta test.
3. In game RNG is different from the mailing list RNG It is not. Everyone who didn’t get an invite then complained too.
4. Portals are the only method to gain beta access Anet has said they will be pulling from the mailing list again, so even if you don’t get a portal you could wind up with a beta invite.
Let’s be clear:
Q: Is the expansion “buy to play”?
A: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is a paid expansion to Guild Wars 2, but once you buy it, there are no subscription fees. This means that you can continue playing and access future updates for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns with no subscription fee.“Paid” in this context means money, not gems.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/HOT-purchased-in-game-with-gems/first#post4867488
That’s what I was looking for, thanks!
I believe Anet commented on this before and said that it would not be available on the gem store, I’ll see if I can find the post.
“I was invited to the beta, but I can’t/couldn’t log in during the test time! Will I have another chance?
This invitation is for this Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns testing event only. This does not guarantee access to future events.”This makes me think that what they mean is that if you got the beta access from this event (not the old one), then it won’t carry over to the next ones, not those who already have access.
That was written for the stress test beta. It could be better worded as gaining access to any single beta event does not guarantee access to any other beta event
That symbolic avenger seems op, BUT some of the symbols the guardian place is pulsing which means it will interfere with ele’s fire field
maybe they should clarify the mechanic of multiple fields. I don’t think it’s first in first out (the data we experimented on is pretty inconsistent). Or the meta might change to just having the warrior solo might stacking and forget about fire field hehehe.
It did seem OP to me at first, but at the same time that damage bonus is dependent on the opponent being in your symbols which are fairly easy to avoid.
Overall I think we saw some good changes. It didn’t seem as dramatic as some of the other classes, but guardians are in a pretty solid place already so I don’t think the needed the sweeping changes some other classes saw
It is definitely not free, you have to devote all your armor/trinkets/weapons to zerker in order to reach 60% crit chance which will be a much riskier investment considering we won’the be getting the toughness/vitality/healing power from traits that many guardian builds have now.
Then to qualify for the extra 40% crit chance (which I assume is the “free” part you are referring to)
25% is only available vs burning opponents (not generally an issue in PvE or WvW)
15% only applies to mace, scepter, and sword skills. It does not apply to off-hand or two-handed weapons
So yeah if you definition of “free” is building specifically for it then we do get “free” 100% crit chance
You can’t really know this until we know how much gear stats are getting buffed. What if gear stats get a large enough buff that a pure set gives you 600 more stat points? Now you can split your gear and get the same 300 point bonuses to multiple stat lines just as before.
Maybe instead of having each skill/trait line up with each point, have them in between two points so you can keep the full circle but it would be more obvious what is being unlock.
Let me post a quote from the blog post again since you appear to have missed it several times now…
More power! You now get to select nine major traits instead of seven, including three grandmaster traits.
This is my review of the two blogs anet has put up regarding specializations Now it seems like a hate post but it’s not, its a warning to anet of what kind of problems will fall into the game if this isn’t stopped or at least seriously rethought and reworked..
1 line reduction:
So anet said that they will be limiting traits from 5 to 3 and merging ‘some’ traits together while moving or removing ‘useless’ traits.
The first problem with this is freeform builds, not everybody is compelled to spend 6 points to a line unless A: they want a grandmaster trait or B: they want to grab an extra adept or master trait. People who don’t spend 6 points in 2 lines will easilly be branching into 4-5 lines for their builds, collecting all the traits they feel makes their build special.
If anet hammers this change onto us we won’t be able to freeform build as much, because we will essentially be forced to spend 6/5/5 There won’t be any real freeform builds. Everyone will have to pick 3 lines then dedicate full into those lines while choosing just one of them to max out.
More power! You now get to select nine major traits instead of seven, including three grandmaster traits.
So basically everyone is spending 6/6/6 not 6/5/5 as you suggest. Meaning we can max out 3 lines instead of the 2 we curgently can. Seeing as you can’t even read the very limited information we have available perhaps you should reserve judgement before writing a novel based on incorrect information…
Another person who didn’t bother to even read carefully why do you people strike my posts when you don’t stop to even understand what I just said.
This is MY FEEDBACK TO anet for what they posted and I’m not the only person unhappy here the forums are flooding with people unhappy about it because its going to robe them of their build diversity and force them to sit in a small cubical build with no real options on how to play.
Because you didn’t bother to read and understand the original blog post. Half of your feedback is based on incorrect information.

Heavy takes 25
It also doesn’t help that Delrimor steel takes 100 mithril ore (50 bars) while Damask takes 300 silk (100 bolts) and I believe the other ascended materials are similar to Delrimor steel…
Too bad there are two other game modes….
Irrelevant.
How is this irrelevant? Are you suggesting no one plays PvP or WvW? Range plays an important in both of those.
I stopped caring about specialisations as soon as I learned guardian will get a bow. Anyway, I doubt we’ll be seeing any information about them in the next month. I have a feeling they wanna keep this info for last.
This hasn’t been confirmed yet. it MAY be the case, but ANET hasn’t released it, so why dismiss it already. Also, who’s to say the longbow may not have great attacks that really add to the profession?
Considering pretty much every fight in PvE is melee, I’m disappointed we get a ranged weapon.
Too bad there are two other game modes….
I just want to take a moment to point out that Colin said we would be getting new Legendaries with HoT. He never once has he said we will get a complete set, including one of each weapon, the day HoT launches.
I agree with this, I am looking forward to Guardians getting longbow (as it seems they will be) but I like playing with shouts. Granted the specialization may make a different build the optimal choice, but with such a short range on boons, they won’t be much of an option with a ranged weapon…
So far we have seen just one small sample of HoT in this demo. I wish the other parts will be more “normal”, meaning less verticality, less gimmicks and I hope to see also more green vegetation. Variety is good and that is what the original Guild Wars map provided. I also enjoyed the map design and art design of the original Guild Wars 1 series, only at Elona Reach they started to get a bit too repetitive.
How are Silverwastes and Dry Top not an example of variety? They are the first desert themed maps we have in GW2. Instead you want to see more “green vegetation” which can be found in every existing map, how is that variation?
Unfortunately vertical maps are one of their big points (Root System, Jungle Floor, Canopy) so I think you will be disappointed by that. I also don’t understand how vertical is “unnatural”
No where does it state Hot maps will add new currencies…
Maps like the Silverwastes or Dry Top that have a dedicated currency will work a little differently. For these maps, bandit crests and geodes have been something of a test for this concept, where you’re rewarded with these currencies through a bouncy chest for playing on the map. The Map Bonuses system is a more streamlined experience, and with Heart of Thorns, these maps will be updated to always award currencies through the Map Bonuses system. Moving forward, any map with a similar currency will also work within the Map Bonuses system.
That’s what I read it as, though in hindsight this could also mean things like Karma and Gold.
and with Heart of Thorns, these maps will be updated to always award currencies through the Map Bonuses system.
I understood “these maps” to mean Silverwastes and Dry Top again. I think their point is the rewards on maps with a dedicated currency will not rotate as they do on other maps. New HoT maps will most likely award crafting mats, but who knows, I could be wrong.
No where does it state Hot maps will add new currencies…
12:00 a.m. = midnight
12:00 p.m. = noon
So no, it should not be p.m.
First, for those of you who didn’t actually follow the link… remember none of this is confirmed.
Second, Ventari is actually very pertinent to the current living story and if founding a race isn’t legendary, I don’t know what is.
Is the Defiance fix going to be applied to old bosses and creatures or just to new content?
This has already been covered here:https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/The-New-Defiance-Article
