Can't level masteries in Mad King Labyrinth?

The discussions said that they were reducing liquid rewards from dungeons (and confirmed loot from mobs/bosses would not be changed) and moved to fractals/raids, so if anything, fractals should have increased.
That was my general understanding too. shrug Must be they changed thier minds and didn’t bother to say thing.
It might just not be obvious. I haven’t played yet so I don’t know what has changed, but since 1 island = 1 fractal now, the reward per fractal might be less (I would expect this) but if you do 4 you’ll end up with more than you would have in the old system.

My friend bought the HOT several days ago according to my recommendation and he decide to quit this game already. We tried to unlock the elite specialization by collecting hero points on new map and failed. The two hours we spent only gave us 3 hero points and 20+ times of death. The jumping puzzle like map is trash, so don’t force ppl to play it!
I just have to ask, did you complete 3 hero challenges in 2 hours? Because if so that’s 30 points, not 3. If you actually only earned 3 points then I have to assume that you were doing the core hero challenges (which only award 1 point) in which case 2 hours to complete 3 is pretty much terrible….
No, the gem store only offers cosmetics and convenience items. Changing that would change the game and not in a good way.
To answer the first half of your question, yes. I don’t have the source offhand, but any mastery points that are awarded for activities that you have already completed will be retroactively awarded at least for Tyria (not sure this applies to anything accomplished the beta, I doubt it does).
This won’t really put you at an advantage though since you do still need to earn experience to train the masteries before you can actually spend the mastery points on them.
They have do banners on their home page linking to all the information that has been released about HoT….

I do realize your post was about the streams, but maybe this will help your quest for information.
As I just mentioned in another thread, most of it has probably already been downloaded.
TBH, we have probably been downloading it for months. How else to you think we have been able to data mine all this information? I can remember at least a couple times in the last few weeks when there were big patches and no release notes accompanying them. That’s not to say there won’t be anything to download come launch day, but you can probably bet that everything they have revealed is already downloaded.
We have this discussion every week, and unless you can show numbers to back up the 2-3 times claim, I can’t believe it.
Prices might have gone up since I last did the calculations, but there’s no way light armor costs more than 1/3 more than medium armor, much less 2-3 times as much.
These are just the cloth/leather/metal costs. A full suit of armor costs something like 400 gold, but most of the other elements are the same regardless of what weight you’re wearing.

Bolt of Damask — craft 13g | buy 15g | sell 17g
Elonian Leather — craft 3g | buy 3g | sell 4g
Deldrimor Ingot — craft 4g | buy 4g | sell 5gHeavy armor uses 150 Thermocatalytic Reagent instead of 360 Gossamer Thread, but both are sold from vendors and cost about the same. (2g30s40c for thread versus 2g24s40c for reagents)

Medium

Elonian Leather — craft 3g | buy 3g | sell 4g
Deldrimor Ingot — craft 4g | buy 4g | sell 5gIts right here… its literally 4 times the cost of leather and 3 times the cost of metal…..
Sure Bolts of Damask cost 3-4 times as much as metal/leather, but you do realize that medium and heavy ascended armor still require 24 and 25 bolts respectively? That mean light armor would need to cost 75-100 bolts in order to cost 3-4 times as much to craft. Since it only costs 36…. the point still stands. Light ascended armor does not cost excessively more than medium/heavy.
Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

have we actually had official word on how many hero points the unlock will require?
Yes, you need 400 to fully unlock all traits, skills, skins, etc. However challenges in the jungle will give you 10 hero points.
Considering that Colin said we will have more than enough points just by completing the challenges in the jungle, you are probably safe to unlock the current specs and still be well on your way to the next ones when they come out. If you have any desire to play part of the current specs then I wouldn’t wait, who know when the next wave will come out. That said if you have absolutely 0 interest then you could potentially get a good head start when the next group of elites comes out.

Would you prefer they lock being able to use the specialization at all behind masteries and other content? That’s how it was supposed to be, in their original plans you would need to be level 80 and have done all the hero challenges in Tyria to be able to fully unlock the core class. People complained that it was too much work so they made so that you could unlock everything by being level 80. Then people complained that they were forced to play PvE to unlock elite specs so we got a method of doing so through WvW. Now we are complaining that we only get access to half the elite specializations within seconds after launch? Quite frankly Anet should stick to their guns on this one because if they just hand over everything then what’s the point? I completely expected I would have to make some progress through HoT before I could even start unlocking the elite specializations so this is a bonus as far as I’m concerned.
I am aware that the existing Legendaries already need PvP/WvW… I’m just not entirely sure that being dependant on the marketplace is the best way to be inclusive of PvE
But it isn’t dependant on the marketplace in any way…. you can go earn those yourself and completely ignore the market. Buying the shards is just an optional way to bypass the intended method. Really if you think about it, this way is actually better for PvE players because they have a non-pvp alternative.

2.Higher levels are agony gated, meaning you need to infuse gear, costing resources. People only wanna do the higher level ones because that’s where the rewards are, but it’s pointless because the infused gear loses a rune slot meaning it underperforms compared to regular ascended in WvW.
What are you even talking about?
1. You can only infuse rings and back items, neither if which has rune slots.
2. Infusing adds an agony infusion slot in addition to the offensive/defensive infusion slot that it already has so you don’t lose anything.
Too be honest there could be lots of reasons why, for example:
Did he also purchase the expansion through Amazon or Did he purchase directly from Arenanet?
Did you both get the same version? If you got standard and he got the deluxe/ultimate version, those actually have two slots, one which is part of the pre-purchase and a second for being a veteran.
The veteran slots are delayed by a few days, they did not apply immediately.
Also I’m pretty certain that 250 years ago the forgotten had already been, you know, forgotten by humans, surviving only in the crystal desert. But just 50 years before that they were turning humans into mursaat lookalikes? I mean, it wasn’t even humans who were custodians of glint back then, it was dwarves, so it makes even less sense.
Also this:
After the Transformation of the Dwarves, Glint’s guardianship was passed down to a secretive group of Canthans and Elonians who would later become known as the Zephyrites.Yes, AFTER the transformation of the dwarves. This didn’t happen 300 years ago, it happened less than 250 years ago in 1078 AE. 300 years ago the Brotherhood of the Dragon were the guardians of glint and her legacy.
Well she obviously wasn’t expecting them to remain such if she was building her own set of “guardians” to protect her legacy, and rightfully so, once primordus began to stir, the dwarves kinda disappeared into the depths to fight him. Then again she was very prophetic so she may have gotten a clue. Glint obviously had a connection with the gods (i mean the altar where she underwent the ritual to be free from kralkatorrik was in arah (or was it moved there after?) ) and these gods brought humans to tyria.
Now yes the forgotten were just that , forgotten, but what does that stop them from chosing humans, some who may just stumbled or lived in the crystal desert, to undergo the trial. I highly doubt that they’d return to civilization after they became exalted to spread the great news about the forgotten.
Yes, exactly this. 300 years ago the Forgotten started recruiting humans and transforming them into Exalted. 50 years later, the Dwarves turned to stone and handed over their stewardship. The last sighting of the Forgotten was approximately 250 years ago as well. It’s not like the Dwarves just overnight turned over their duty to the first random human they saw, it was something that would have required a lot of planning and preparation. Also consider Glint’s gift of Prophecy, she probably knew exactly what was going to happen to her Dwarven protectors.

(just one egg, not all 200 from gw1, and not the one that had already hatched in gw1!) and this makes sense how?
Well of course it can’t be the one that already hatched in GW1, now THAT is something that wouldn’t make sense.
To be honest, the Mursaat never made any sense to me. I mean what with all the Forgotten relics and magics they threw at us in the Living Story, plus the Forgotten and their connection with Glint. Not to mention how similar the creation of the Exalted is to the Ascension from GW1.
Also everyone points to golden cities and assumes Mursaat, but the Forgotten kind of cornered the market on gold architecture. All the signs were there but no one wanted to see them. That and we assumed it had to be an old race instead of a new one and since the Exalted look vaguely similar to the Mursaat… but you know what they say about assuming….
Yes, they said during the stream yesterday that guild hall expidition would scale based on the number of players from a range of 5 – 200 ish
There are hero point and mastery point.
Hero point :
- needed for specialization (core and elite).
- You can earn them by leveling or doing challenges in the base game maps.
- These point are bound to the character.
- Skill point have been refund in regard off the progression of each character. (which mean that even if you used some of them for unrelated matter you wouldn’t have more of them than you have today)Masteries point :
- Needed for Masteries.
- You can earn them by completing achievement or doing challenge in HoT maps.
- These point are account bound.
- Some achievement will retroactively give mastery point at HoT launch.Note that Elite spec cost isn’t set in stone and that since they may change them each time they will introduce new elite spec. For the moment, you can be sure that the Elite spec cost wan’t need more hero point than what’s left after hitting 80 and paying for core profession spec.
Considering reaching level 80 gives you 398 hero points, all skills unlocked costs 98 and all core specializations unlocked costs 60 each (300 total) I am not sure how you came to the conclusion. Please check your facts.
OP, until they release how many hero points are needed to unlock the elite specs we won’t know. We can assume it may be similar to a current skill set and specialization unlock which would be roughly 25 for the skills (this amount varies) and 60 for the specialization for a total of 85 points. But again we won’t know until it’s official.
oh where can i find this quote saying they are realise two week later?
I haven’t seen a “2 weeks” quote, but here you go.
“Wings are released one at a time. 1st wing released sometime after HoT ship (before Holidays). The first wing will give you some background story that is continued in wing 2 and wing 3 etc”
http://dulfy.net/2015/09/26/gw2-twitchcon-designing-raids-in-heart-of-thorns/
No news on how many maps are in HoT is a big reason for me to wait. will they have “half” the game at release and have the rest of it become available through updates? who knows.
i may buy HoT at a later date. but im for sure not preordering it based on what we have seen so far and not buying it at release before i see whats actually in it.
Going by the last information available, we’re getting 4 maps with HoT with 3 layers each. I personally played in both beta weekends so far, and we got to play 50% in total of only the first map. IMO it felt huge. Bigger then any map currently in gw2, and we still haven’t seen the rest 50% of it. This I remind you, was only 1 of the 4 new maps, and they will all be in similiar size. You can easily open the world map and see for yourself how huge Maguuma Wastes is on the map compared to other regions.
Also you left out the raids. We don’t have an information on how big they will be in terms of size, yet, but going on the assumption this will be the most challenging group content in the game, they will certainly should be bigger then dungeons. Also lets not forget fractals get an additional 50 levels, and maybe even new fractal maps, who knows? We simply don’t know yet. Honestly for me, atleast, the information we have until now is enough to build my decision that the expansion will be worth it for me.
Maybe if you have participated in the beta weekends for yourself you might have a different view, but sadly (and that’s one of the worst decisions Anet made, imo), they were open only for people who already bought the expansion.
Actually, to help support your claim, we got to play 25% each of the jungle canopy and jungle floor so if you count all three layers as a single map (like Anet is) we got to see less than 25% of the first map so far.
^^^^
Case and point. Sorry I killed all your children.
Played WoW, LOTRO, SWTOR, SWG, RIFT, and TERA.
GW2 is significantly more grindy than all of them.
queue people telling me that doing a 2 hour raid once a week is somehow more grindy than collecting 20,000 dungeon tokens to unlock a single set of weapons. lol
Not sure when 6150 tokens became 20,000…. Did the cost of dungeon weapons suddenly triple?
Also you mentioned LOTRO? I have never played a game that required as much grind simply to level up as LOTRO requires.
Maybe you should check your facts before replying…
a event where you must spend gold to get rewards. is not worth doing at all. not only that but with no drops of loot from kills is not worth doing even more so when there is no extra special items being dropped from the said event . all together not worth the doing of this event at all . nor worth wasting time on a useless event .
Sovereign weapons available during the Queen’s Jubilee cost gold as well as a Favor of the Pavillion. Just saying. There’s a precedent.
that might be but i will be not spending gold in event items at all. nor will i take poor drops . when i get that from farming reg content . all together i revert back to my post . and the so called precedent you speak of is a very pour one at that .
There are so many events requiring gold in addition to other currency. We even have permanent versions of this in the Silverwastes. Just because only one example was offered, doesn’t mean there isn’t a precedent for it.
And no extra special items? Almost everything that is available was a very limited time offer before, some only a couple weeks. (I am of course excluding luck, sand, etc.) And they required a considerable time investment to unlock before as well.
It’s something you want but don’t need. It’s not a new tier
many players would argue the same thing about ascended in fact i know quite a few players who haven’t even bothered to make ascended yet coz its stat gain benefit is so insignificant
so anyone who made it didn’t relay need it they wanted it coz i think we can all agree that you can manage just as well without it using exotic armours
i think too many players are hung up on the fact that theres no better stats on it and compleatly missing the fact that this armour IS better than ascended simply because of the option to change stats
no matter how i look at it i see this as an upgrade and the next step up on armour qualityI wouldn’t personally say that 15% increase was insignificant but I guess to each their own.
I wouldn’t either if that number was true….
Math is already out there, its a 5-7% increase AT MOST, not even close to 15%
It’s actually exactly a 5% increase. When stats were removed from traits, they were going to bump it to 10% but enough people didn’t like the change that they kept it at 5% instead.
Sorry for not quoting (addressing the last three posts as a group) but some excellent points made all around. I hope for ranger’s sake that they get some attention out of this.
Addressing jcbroe’s side note, I did see his video. It’s unfortunate that the changes didn’t make it into this BWE, but I do hope it helps.
Revenant already has 6 trait lines revealed so no more legends in this expansion. We’ll have to wait until the next round.
Plot twist: After the forgotten left Tyria and the Crystal desert, they searched for the remaining Mursaat to punish them for what they’ve done during the last Rise of the Dragons. They found them and both races fighted relentless against each other. When their magic collided, a big explosion occured, affecting both factions and fusing their individuals into one body, always one Mursaat and one Forgotten. Thats why they are now known as the Exalted and look serpent-like but also have Traits of the Mursaat. :P
Honestly, I hope the are Mursaat and the differences in their appearance is only because GW2 has a different style than GW1. I still remember there were supposed to be “some really cool plans for the Mursaat”.
Someone’s been watching the Dark Crystal…
I was specifically addressing the “need” for more BWE’s and not any current issues with the class. If you noticed my point was that more BWE’s aren’t necessarily the solution.
You are correct. I was distracted at the wrong time, and kind of lost the track of where I’d intended to go with that reply. You have my apologies for that.
Thanks, and I can agree, Rangers could use a lot more love from Arena Net than they’ve gotten. They pretty consistently have the smallest patch notes except maybe Guardian, but they are in an arguably “better place” than Rangers.
I’m sorry I missed the part where no more changes are allowed after HoT goes live. Besides, more BWE’s does not mean better mechanics or even less bugs. Dragonhunter has had the most beta availability and yet the still get “line of sight” errors on flat ground with no obstacles when the target is obviously within range.
Given that most of these are problems that have persisted for the Ranger for over three years now, I think it’s more than fair to be worried that once Druid goes live it’s going to be largely left as-is even if it needs work.
Besides, Druid is based on the Ranger class. Problems for the core class ARE problems for the elite spec, so it’s entirely valid to bring them up like this. Even if the specs are not revealed yet, ANet knows them and being reminded of some of the class problems may give them a chance to jump ahead on fixing something. There’s little point in waiting for the reveal to remind them of known problems, especially when they’re in balance and repair mode anyway.
I was specifically addressing the “need” for more BWE’s and not any current issues with the class. If you noticed my point was that more BWE’s aren’t necessarily the solution.
We’re essentially 6 weeks away from launch (assuming there is no reveal this week) and the game still lacks a Ranger and Engi official elite spec reveal. Each of those will take a week on their own, and another week will probably be the last BWE, so it seems that Ranger/Engi will only be getting a single round of public testing and feedback and very little comparative time to fix or change anything that needs to be changed before going live in October.
I’m sorry I missed the part where no more changes are allowed after HoT goes live. Besides, more BWE’s does not mean better mechanics or even less bugs. No for three reasons.
1. Elite specs are only able to be equipped in the Third Specialization Slot which unlocks at 71. We don’t need them recoding things this late in the process.
2. Elite specs are End Game progression as has been pointed out many times. It’s not about restrictions players is about introducing a new system of progression.
3. Elite specs are also Expansion content. They are designed to be immediately equipped in the core came by everyone, free account or otherwise. They are meant to be discovered, unlocked, and then used to your advantage in the jungle.
And two anyone who wants to play the level 80 card, I started a necromancer last week for the reaper spec that I am levelling with out tomes, any of you can do it too.
I understand the idea of wanting to give enemies hard-hitting attacks with obvious tells, however right now I feel some enemies (Mordrem Snipers and Smokescales particularly) hit just a little too hard. This isn’t such a big deal for tankier classes like Revenant or Guardian, but when playing a Berserker Thief, I found myself losing well over 70% of my health for mis-timing a single dodge.
You do realize Guardians are in the lowest health pool and can “tank” any “hard hits” Just as well as any class that can dodge/evade/block…
Here is the build I am running now that I think you might like, it would fit pretty well with your knight/zerker equipment (I use Soldier/Zerker) and I love the trooper runes.
My suggestions would be swap out my sword and shield for your GS. They both offer some similar mobility and utility, so it will fit in fine. It will also combo better with Symbolic Avenger. If you find conditions aren’t a problem, you could switch Pure of Voice for Force of Will to give you a stronger passive on Signet of Courage.
I see a lot of good synergy with this, one suggestion I would make is taking Pure of Heart overy Empowering Might in honor. With you running Retreat, plus Virtue of Courage, every aegis you apply to allies also heals them. Meanwhile with 4% crit chance, Empowering Might won’t see a lot of action.
Also with using mace and hammer, you have so many symbols that I would consider taking Zeal over Radiance for Symbolic Avenger, but the condi should work pretty well too.
Here’s the build I currently run for a little bit of insight to how I play. It’s got great group support (even without healing power) and some good damage. Mine is a little less focus on support though with a bigger emphasis on self survivability and enough damage to help support fights.

I would say after or the same time.
Senario 1: The Pact Fleet flies into an ambush and Mordremoth concurrently launches a surprise attack, knowing that his biggest source of resistance will be destroyed and distracted.
Senario 2: Mordremoth is enraged after the attack against him launch by the Pact. After throughly destroying their fleet, he takes advantage of the situation to launch a counter attack before any kind of rescue or even defense can be mustered.
ideally hooking up w/ other guilds could work, it worked super well in gw1, but we had alliances
w/ alliance every1 kept their own guild identities but gave u that bigger group for doing content together when needed, if we had that, i def wouldn’t complain
As long as you have open guild slots, it was mentioned that you would be able to chat across all guilds you are part of, not just the one you are representing. It’s not exactly alliances, but should help make teaming up a little bit easier.
I’m hoping this is the case since I too belong first to a small ~5 active member guild
Anet refuses to add the proper tools to see if people are geared and built correctly so even though AP is a terrible indicator people use what they have because it is still better than nothing at all.
Congratulations for proving the OP correct…
So did anyone consider Legendary Armor won’t be locked behind raids?
Nope. It’s such a volatile subject that Anet would have clarified it right away if it were so. Unless of course they are completely clueless, of course.
That has unfortunately been the case many times before… remember when preordering launched?
So did anyone consider Legendary Armor won’t be locked behind raids? Just because that’s the only thing they have announced it for doesn’t mean that’s the only way to get it. Look at the new Legendary back pieces for example. They announced one for Fractals (and assorted PvE) but you never would have known there were others until they also announced one for PvP.
Hasn’t been announced does not equal doesn’t exist….
Believe it or not, the amount of Developer time is not a fixed number. We already know they hired a Raid Designer last year, what prevents them from having hired additional developers with the intention of having them work strictly on raids (or at least raids as a priority)?
There’s more than one way to allocate more time to an aspect of the game…
I’m sorry I don’t have the source offhand, but they stated the expansion would not be available for purchase with gems.
Edit Source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Have-to-buy-HoT-to-create-a-Revenant/first#post4867494
You missed the point Vayne was trying to make. The majority of this expansion isn’t about the content, it’s about the systems they had to build to make this expansion possible.
Large examples are the mastery system and the specialization system, both of which can be expanded upon indefinitely.
Smaller behind the scenes changes are also present, such as updating the game engine to allow new combat mechanics like the free camera, cascade effects, and mobile combo fields. (FYI when I say small, I mean less noticeable, not necessarily less work. It wouldn’t surprise me if the combat system overhaul took more work than the mastery system)
In short, maps and skills aren’t the only “content” we are getting.
I’m planning on using the hero’s mistforged longbow.
Although that Phoenix Longbow looks pretty nice…
Seems like a pretty solid build to me, it will change a little bit with the new guardian updates too though they won’t be available for this BWE. You can check them here though. A nice update for you will be stability on knockback with longbow
http://dulfy.net/2015/08/26/gw2-more-dragonhunter-changes-for-future-update/
Unfortunately none that I’ve seen, all we really know from anet is what the CGC won’t be….
That said I think a lot of people share your opinion. Personally I already pre-purchased the expansion largely for access to the BWE’s, but I think that the CGC reveal Saturday is going to be the make or break point for this expansion for a lot of people.
I just wanted to add my input, I thought the challenge was long over due. Messing around with new builds/classes I probably died twice as much in Verdant Brink as I did in the rest of Tyria and I was never left frustrated by an encountered (except maybe smokeskins, they seemed to glitch around. I know that’s intended behaviour it just doesn’t look that great)
“The core mechanic for the tempest allows the specialization to overload their attunements. After a period of time remaining in one attunement, players will be able to reactivate it to perform a special channeled ability.”
That’s a quote from the same article… are we just ignoring that the new spec encourages you to stay in one attunement as opposed to constantly swapping for the best benefit? Also while still support, moving from a back line position to a front line position is an extreme change in playstyle so I think they hit the nail on the head given what we know…
Which isn’t much so maybe save the judgement at least until tomorrow.
