HoT maps feel very unwelcoming, like someone really doesn’t want me to go there.

Well it is run by a dragon who actively declared war on the rest of Tyria. Enemy territory shouldn’t feel welcoming.

But who knew Mordy was so disciplined? Everything happens right on schedule, and not a minute sooner.

I thought he was the dragon of Plants and Minds, not Plants and Clock Timers… -_-

Maybe he just has access to some really organized minds?

Guardian Damage

I doubt this is an over sight for one reason, Reaper greatsword is designed to be slow and heavy.

The guardian greatsword chain takes 1.5 seconds, the Reaper greatsword chain takes 2.5 seconds by comparison.

The damage is balanced against the Reaper attacks being slower and easier to avoid/negate.

On the value of "luxury" rewards

But that I do not have enough to afford all the items I’d want, and that others do, and earned it through what I view as distasteful and illegitimate means, yeah, that does bother me.

Unfortunately, this statement right here is why this thread will never go anywhere. If you believe that free trade (which nearly every real world economy has) is illegitimate, then you are in for a surprise.

The fact of the matter is, people like Wanze have earned their wealth through means available to everyone. Because you choose not to use it doesn’t make it unfair, it doesn’t make it unbalanced, and it doesn’t make it illegitimate, and doesn’t make it a game problem. It’s strictly a personal problem because it only affects your ability to make money.

If you want to bring psychology into this, then the issue is instant gratification. As several people have stated, anyone can buy and sell items on the TP for whatever value they want. It doesn’t take genius to realize that listing something higher gets you more profit. But we have extremely expensive items (like ascended mats) because people want to buy it now and have it first. On the flip side we have hugely inexpensive items (like all exotics now) because there has been a huge influx of them and pepole will instantly sell to the highest bidder to get their money now.

If everyone listed common items at or above value, the price would slowly go up or remain the same. Conversely if people put in buy orders to match the highest bidder, we wouldn’t have over-inflated prices on ascended mats, all leading to a much more “balanced” economy as you say.

TL/DR It’s not a problem with the system Anet designed. The problem is people who want things handed to them with as little effort and delay as possible.

Hero points from pvp?

This is simply unbelievable.
while initially excited by release, now finding the HOT grind in pve so completely boring with 10 lvl 80 with 100% map completion that I haven’t been able to face it for days.
Today thought, oh, I have that new second necro I made, l can keep her for pvp instead of having to contantly change builds between pvp and wvw (where I am mostly) and craft a second set of same stat gear (Don’t want to have to swap gear constantly). So it’s been awhile since l pvp’d on a new char and firstly my new necro is all in underlevel gear and stats seem not bumped up to 80, at least in pvp lobby? What’s with that?
Secondly, no ability to earn HP? OMFG seriously? What an oversight Anet!! O.O
Way I’m feeling atm is l just wasted $150 AUS…
Btw, while useful for levelling revernant, tomes of knowledge for me are one of the most useless annoying items in game. It takes 2 days to get a char to 80 normal way and I’m no pro!

Ummm… your builds are saved separately for each game mode now, so I’m not sure what your issue is?

Legendary Crafting Not Worth It...

Then the reward was 1 of the 4 items needed to get to Tier 2… the other 3 items required 10 Elonion Leather Squares (90g), 2 Spiritwood Plank (17g) Deldrimor Steel Ingots (20g), and a few other mats all totaling up to about 150g value.

To top it off… the precursor Howl is valued at 298g instant buy…

and if mats value for Tier 1 of 3 is more than the item itself, then its a complete ripoff!

You just stated yourself that the mats value is not more than the item itself, it is in fact half the value of the item, and that’s not even taking into consideration that the price of Ascended mats is extremely inflated right now.

Half of your “300g cost” was purchasing all the collection books and making your legendary gift, which have absolutely no bearing on the cost ratio of crafting vs buying precursors. Please stop making up numbers to support your arguments like you are doing in the other thread regarding this same post.

Also while you are at it, stop double posting.

Howl costs about 300 gold.
Tier 1 costs about 160 gold.

That’s almost the same ratio that the Colossus and it’s precursor has so I’d say they are pretty accurate in their math so far.

It also costs less than half of what the tier 1 for colossus does, but I would expect a 1h off hand weapon to cost less than half of what a 2h weapon does.

It is a player driven economy they can’t do much about it. It just so happens that people keep trying to rush and expect to finish everything within a day thus making prices skyrocket.

The price of the mats required to make tier 1 have been pretty consistent… whoever created the prereq mats for tier 1’s didnt even bother to do the math… its completely evident

Considering a large part of the materials required for the tier 1 recipes are:

Ascended materials, which have increased significantly in price since the expansion.

Shards of Glory and Memories of Battle, which didn’t exist before the expansion.

So it seems like blaming the devs for bad math when you can be bothered to research that the tier 1 mats either didn’t exist before or have changed significantly (as opposed to being pretty consistent like you claim) is a fairly unfounded claim.

Edit: the Colossus (which I am working on currently) costs about 750 gold, while the tier 1 would cost about 350 gold, not using buy orders. So it seems that the value of the pre does not come close to being less in value than the tier 1 in this case. I’m sure it’s the same in many others as well.

List of "Mats" that need storage spot

Is there any point discussing the 250 limit on these slots? It’s great to have a dedicated slot for something but when it hits 250, what then? Is 250 a technical limit or an economic one? Could it ever be raised to 999 for example?

Sure you can…by purchasing the storage expansions with gems in the gemstore=/

I have purchased the storage expansion, so I can store up to 500 of each store-able item. It’s still not enough. I love the suggestion to raise it to 999! I would even buy another store expansion to be able to do so!

+1 to all of the suggestions in this thread thus far! We’re drowning in mats!!!

You can purchase that expansion 3 times, for a total of 1000.

Edit: as per a previous post I just verified, you can now expand it to 1500.

3 raid wings, so at least 9 bosses per week.
the most recent 3 will have that unique buff for doubles rewards…

makes 24g minimum per week, once all 3 initial wings are released…

I used to make 40g per day from dungeons.
So hopefully not everything in there is acc-bound…
Or future wings have more bosses…

I’m pretty sure that’s per final boss, so 12 gold/week from the first three wings.

Edit: Also 4 gold is only for the most current boss. Otherwise it’s only 2 gold. So we’re looking at 8 gold a week from the weekly chests.

Time-gated items to start working no now...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ranatoa.4869

OP my suggestion if you want to play it casually is just make sure to deposit materials while you play. For now, check the amounts each day and craft any time gates that you can. After awhile you’ll know your pace and you can craft every other day, once a week, whatever works for you. It’s usually safe to craft any time gated material you can if you intend to make Ascended/Legendary items. If you don’t use it, you can always sell it for good money later.

Time-gated items to start working no now...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ranatoa.4869

Ranatoa.4869

Crafting items and materials should never be timegated. Period. End of story.

Yes they should as it gives control over the supply and allows “time” to be given a value. Not for everything but it makes sense to have this mechanic.

Remember crafting had no real way to make money before they added these time gated things into the game, they are a useful part of the economy and give a reward for leveling crafting.

Not sure why you’d be so dismissive of these benefits.

Because there should never be a pure hard cap on progress. If you want crafting materials to have value, then decrease their drop rates or make them more difficult to acquire. Many of these materials are also account bound, which means that they instead have no impact on the economy.

Players should never be punished for trying to make the most of their time. Timegating enforces the idea of logging in every day for weeks to do something that could normally be done in a few minutes’ time. It needs to go.

While it’s true the first part of all the time gated crafting materials are account, the refined end product is not. E.g. the Lump of Mithrillium is account bound but the Deldrimor Steel that it is refined into is not. So they do very much impact the economy. In fact, as mentioned above, they are nearly the only way one can make any money by crafting. Nearly every MMO has time gated crafting (I’m sure there are some that don’t) it’s a common practice that does not punish players, it adds value to higher level crafting professions.

Mentor Fake Tag

Ranatoa.4869

I haven’t bought any commander tag, and don’t really intend to.
But I also think that the mentor tags should have way more limitation than thay have now.
Also calling people special snowflake because they spent 300g on they stuff while others can use similar functionality for free is kinda douchie.

Mentorship is supposed to help mentoring people. Which means, it’s supposed to help people that aren’t familiar with the game. There’s ZERO reason to keep those in high level area. By the time people get to lvl60+, they know how to get around in this game.
(In a single player game, you won’t have tutorials last until the final stage of the final boss fight)

You come to my words man. Also there should atleast be a AP limit. Only experienced people to be able to use Mentor Tags. not every 500 ap newbie.

Maybe there should be an AP limit on Commander tags too then? 300 gold price tag doesn’t mean the Commander knows what they are doing (as you suggested) it could just as easily mean they got out their credit card and bought one.

You do realize that Commander Tags don’t have the squad add on yet. Since they are still fixing it we can’t create squads or use squad chat yet.

How is that relevant? Mentor tags still won’t have access to squads once it is fixed. This isn’t a pro/con, it’s a bug.

The pro is that Commander tags allow access to squads, Mentor tags don’t.

You are losing the whole point of the thread. Mentor tags are making the Commander Tags worthless. They are MENTOR TAGS to help new players and not to be used as Commanding big groups of people to do Tequatl or any big dynamic event. That’s what Commander Tags are for as well as for WvWvW. Mentor tags corrupt/kittenize(use any word you like) Commander Tag’s true goal into the game.

Which is exactly why Mentor tags a) don’t get squads and b) can’t be used in WvW, thus giving Commander tags the advantage when commanding big groups. Which is exactly the point of this thread, and which is exactly what I have said in every post.

Edit: To specifically address your initial concerns…

Commander tags get not only their own chat highlight, they get their own channel (see squads)

Mentor tags don’t get PvE boons, it only affects the 4 other people in your party (not squad), it only works in the five cities, and you get it regardless of having a Mentor tag (they are unlocked by the same mastery line, but that’s where the connection ends).

I’m not sure if the mastery you select to train is account bound, but I believe it is. E.g. if training Itzel lore on your ranger, I believe when you swap to your guardian you will also need to change to glider mastery, then change back when you go to your ranger

PvP and WvW for precursor crafting.

Hey guys, I’ve got a quick question/possible suggestion.

Do the WvW rank up chests give more than one Memory of Battle or are they limited to one per chest like the PvP Shards of Glory?

As for a suggestion, do you think that the Memory of Battle should be obtainable from the WvW dailies? Currently the Shards of Glory are obtainable from PvP dailies as well as reward tracks, so I would think that WvW would be the same. There are also only a finite number of WvW ranks while many PvP reward tracks are repeatable and of course the dailies are too.

Granted if rank up chests give you multiple Memories than this is probably not a big deal.

FYI, I am not complaining about the system. I think having to play multiple game modes for the legendary is great, while also keeping the materials tradeable so that people who dislike those game modes have an alternative option and the WvW/PvP only players get a little extra income. I’m just curious about how this difference might affect supply and make Memories scarcer than Shards. Of course maybe that’s the intention.

I agree, the game has always been a ‘play how you want to’ game and they went back on that with 0 warning. I bought the xpac for elite specs, nothing else. I don’t enjoy PvE, I should not be forced to grind it for hundred of hours just to play how I want to. Elite specs should cost the same amount as regular specs, the skins can cost the extra points.

If you don’t like PvE then go play WvW and unlock them through that, or play sPvP where you already have them. Last I checked, being able to access the elite specs in every game mode was the definition of “play how you want to” but I guess I missed something?

Edit: for everyone quitting in this thread… can I have your stuff? Though if you are that opposed to playing the game to earn stuff I can’t imagine you have much….

I might be misunderstanding the issue, and if so, I apologize. But I wonder if this update note may apply:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented Adept and Master Elite Specialization achievements from completing in the Heart of the Mists. For characters who had their elite spec achievements broken, a “Specialization Achievement Repair” NPC has been added to the heart of the mists you can speak to who will repair the achievement.

Again, sorry if that’s completely irrelevant, but the discussion reminded me of the note so I wanted to share it in this thread. (IOW, the Repair NPC might be helpful.)

Thanks Gaile, that indeed seems to be what the issue was. We also found that training the next trait/skill also activates the achievement (though this would undoubtedly be helpful is someone unlocked everything completely and didn’t have anything else to train.
