“I’m finding companies should sell access to forums,

Lol the narrative makes any sense now? I’m half waiting for Taimi to say she is the next elder dragon.
What? No…
Taimi made an Elder Dragon out of samples from Primordus and GEORmag and Aurene, and she’s raising it to crush Balthazar and the re-resurrection of Lazarus (who she is re-resurrecting to test her new dragon).
Eh, I don’t want mounted combat. I play to have my skills, not some set of gimmicks that actively takes away from my gear/trait choices.
Tengu? Seriously? Nah… Dwarves making a comeback, and becoming a playable race, makes way more sense for the xpac.
I wouldn’t say no to making one.
I’ll name him Rocky. And when he dies from falling damage, he better break into pieces.
And instead of rubbing, resurrection should involve putting together his puzzle parts.
:)
The underlying system was fine.
Execution, as is common with ANet and good ideas, was a little choppy.
My biggest issues were:
I don’t mind using XP for it or having to wait, but the first mastery levels really need to come much faster, or new players to the expansions will get bored. That is not supposition, that is what my friends have cited to me, post-mortum.
Probably way too late to fix it for the coming expansion, but it wouldn’t take too much to use the existing framework and just tweak it.
The Guardian staff probably needed rework since launch. The nerf to its hit range has little to do with it. It’s not an exciting weapon to use, and there are two reasons it’s popular:
1. Lootstick
2. Swiftness Symbol
The orb is clunky to use and doesn’t really have much effect, and the Empower is a grounded heal/might where other classes and skills just do better for it. And the Ward skills on Guardian weapons just confuse me. No trait support and they don’t do much besides make the bland AI thump it twice before it goes away.
So, yeah, I’d like to see Guard-staff fit GW2’s combat better. No idea how, though. Hm. Thought exercise for a different day.
Here’s a reason: $90 in character slots.
Gimme.
I understand why people make guesses, but OP has a point:
People should stop posting their (more or less) educated guesses as if they were facts directly confirmed by ANet. Other people tend to pick these guesses up and spread them as perceived fact.
Extrapolation of data is fine. Where the problem occurs is the latter statement. That is where we get unnecessary hype or echo-chambers and assumptions become “fact”.
People need to learn the difference between fact, opinion, and the fuzzy intersection known as a guess.
Seeing the sale plan for this week, I’m definitely waiting for next week.
Gimme those character slots!
So how does a preview weekend work? Do I take in my level 80 main, or do I need to create a new character, or is some sort of “preview-only character slot” provided?
If existing characters go in, how does loot and consumables work? Loot gets removed when exiting, gold gets reset, consumables return to whatever quantity they were at?
It’s normally done either on a separate “beta” client and you create a new character which goes straight in at max level with some on level gear to get you going or you create new said character from a special slot on your normal client and go in from there. At the end of the preview, everything gets deleted (or possibly carried over to the next preview weekend).
Other MMOs have done separate downloads/clients, but I seem to recall for HoT that there were simply extra “Beta” slots that you made throwaway characters for.
OK, i do recognize that the staff is supposed to be a support weapon in some regard, but there are better choices. It’s designed to be an aoe weapon limited to a cone in front of the guardian.
Here’s a quote from another post in the WvW forums. Maybe this will shed some light about just how big of a nerf this is:
“Let me put this in another way as I don’t think people understand just how much of a nerf this is. While the range has been cut in half, it’s effectiveness has been nerfed way more than that. At 600 unit range with a 170 degree ark, it covered an area of 534,000 units. Cut the range in half, it will now cover an area of 134,000 units. That translates to a 75% reduction in area! That’s insane!”
Just out of curiosity. Does that calculation of 75% reduction of area include the increase of the attack angle from 90 degrees to 110 degrees?
Just by the basic geometry math, cutting the range (radius) by half reduces the effective area to 1/4, so at least the 75% reduction is partially correct.
110/90 * .25 = ~30%.
Still a huge increase in the overall area and probably should have justified a damage boost to the auto attack, at least.
Best to submit bugs to https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs
Also, I think that was resolved: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-8-2017-3/first#post6683323
Well, it is useless as a weapon. The only thing I use it for is a speed boost on my key runner and as a loot stick.
Which means not that the nerf needs to be reversed but that the Guardian staff needs to be reworked.
This.
If it didn’t have that Swiftness symbol, it wouldn’t get used at all. Maybe for lootsticking, but there are other weapons that just play better overall.
The original staff range was fine. Like others said, a narrower beam/effect would have been an acceptable nerf. As it is, I don’t think the other sidegrades for orb and Asura Poledance Healing make up for the range loss.
With very few, if any, other weapons/utilities having “Warding” abilities, Staff 5 should have been something completely else.
In GW2 you’re not truly rich until you can buy the ’I’m Rich You Know?’ title without giving a kitten because the amount of gold it costs means nothing to you.
That’s a nice one. I admit I think I have seen only one person run around with “Golden” but hadn’t seen this one yet.
Personally, I’m not sure I want to use Golden or I’m Rich titles. Call it paranoia, but I don’t want gold spammers or hackers thinking I’m an attractive target. :P
I would never have minded the sounds if people wouldn’t stand around or just shoot so you HAD to hear them. They do it just to be annoying.
I too am thankful for this change!
I liken them to spiteful cats. They pick the most averse/allergic one in the vicinity and insist on being near them.
Well, now the ones who openly admit to making these weapons to bother people are going to have to find something else to do.
No, it’s not that great. I mean new players won’t know what they’re doing and old players (at least the majority that I know) have so many tomes of knowledge that this is redundant and over priced.
Yeah, I can understand 20-25$ for hitting end-game in a regular MMO, but with GW2, it’s already so easy to get to 80, we really don’t need to be paying this much for skipping a meager contribution of hours just to get a plop of defensive exotic gear.
Now if only they would sell them individually so I can have the axe!
There is not a font size I can use to express how happy, so, so happy this has made me.
Best item of the entire patch list.
Well, maybe second best, because the obvious winner is:
• Ambush: The thieves summoned by this skill will now use chatter lines that match their race.
The great thing about not playing meta is when the balance changes hit, all that happens is you get an extra axe to throw.
While we’re never going to see FG/PS break, I appreciate that Warrior Hammer got a coherent update, and that they’re sincerely trying with Physical skills to be decent. I know there’s going to be plenty of rage at some of the “nerfs”, but we can’t always push the power curve up, so I definitely understand some of the Elementalist changes.
Oh, and I’m glad to see some of the fall/revival traits got upgrades! And some new ways to speed up party revives sneaked in there too.
I’m still processing all the changes, and will be for a while, but we’ve hit on some “interesting times” for good or ill.
One thing we will no longer be missing is the hatred, spite and vitrol that thrives in PvP and WvW when those players bring their mounts into core Tyria and start affecting PvE players.
Out of all the mount discussions, I was always against generic perma-speed boosts or mounts for WvW. That is where movement speed matters, not just for convenience, but tactically, and that becomes a legitimate build decision.
I hope this rumor about WvW mounts isn’t true, or that it’s a border map feature specifically designed for it.

I wouldn’t say “rich,” but I’m well off, into the 80th percentile for account value. But liquid gold to speak of.. ha! I got squat. :P
It’s become a platform game. If you don’t like platform games, you’re not going to enjoy the new zone. It’s like the designers have overdosed on SM and have been told they must include jumps, puzzles and glides to get anywhere as that will make up for the lack of actual content.
And by the looks of it, the expansion has more in common with Super Marios than Guild Wars. ‘Mounts’ which are really just hidden gated jump skills….
The Metroidvania was strong in HoT, no lie. I’m expecting the same out of PoF honestly. I’ll be a little sad if mastery points get gated behind needing other masteries to continue, especially if those masteries are actually kind of useless otherwise (Itzel Poison Mastery, looking at you…). But, I expect no PoF zone will be completable without the relevant mastery boosting, just like it was in HoT.
Introducing lower tier ore/wood into newer maps has a chance of killing the sub-80 maps, and I’m not sure the ol’ Megaserver is up to the task.
At the same time, mithril is probably the weakest of the high level materials, just barely spiking up from two legendaries being released. At least we can hope that the random tier cloth/leather drops continue. It’s not enough to completely farm solo, but it’s a nice passive kickback.
Waiting for that Riding Broom skimmer though.
Anyway, as it IS an attack, there has to be some visual effect to go with it. No “invisible” attacks is one of those unwritten rules.
Someone should tell that to Immelhoof. :\
My speculation is that it’s not really him. Maybe it’s his brother. Think Loki.
Or maybe it’s still Lyssa!
D:
Consume All would go over well.
Charr have no gods. And the humans are about to have one less.
}]:3
Expect to see more Concentration and Expertise filtered into the set. Seeker/Diviner is still PvP only, and a new All Stat is overdue.
Still begging for Seeker from PvP to show up in PvE.
Menders would be nice.
And how did I miss Diviner? ANet, gimmie.
Though, also waiting for that upcoming “actually +all stats not Celestial” that’s bound to show up in PoF. It’ll be interesting to see that on hybrid builds.
No, not even remotely true. Mesmer, ranger and necromancer still have minions/pets, and future (and HoT) elite specs will not have the same mechanics that these specs do.
coughKallaScorchrazorcough
Revenant is getting a pet(-ish?) spec in Kalla Scorchrazor’s warband commands.
Though, to be fair, when talking raids, etc., there’s few things more irritating for a Ranger (or WoW-Hunter) than a pet in the wrong place, costing the team issues and lowering dps. Especially for Ranger, since pets die from a random pin-prick on bosses. I’m jonsing for Soulbeast just for that reason.
Still begging for Seeker from PvP to show up in PvE.
After the clusterbomb that was Tangled Depths, I have desperately wanted custom mapping tools. I’ll be fine if I’m the one that has to mark “updraft here” or “start of vista path” with little symbols and arrows and dotted lines, but please make this part of the GW2 interface. I’m severely uncomfortable with the idea that the only way I can get such a useful tool is through modhacks which might get me banned.
GREAT ideas (except for getting banned)!
ANYTHING to make it easier to find your way around would be an improvement.
There are overlays (Overwolf, TacO, etc) that can do the job, someone even made a jumping puzzle aide, but with ANet being very quiet about something being “officially okay”, I really don’t want to risk it. And the burden is on the player to make sure that some sketchy mod developer doesn’t end up willingly or unwittingly violating the ToS.
So, an in-game tool would make me thrilled.

Lots of great ideas, and thanks for all of the responses. I feel like I spend all my time juggling the characters I have so more is always more daunting.
However, the $79 pack is tempting with the gems thrown in there and all the other stuff. It’s alot easier to justify the cost when you’re not already throwing out $15/mo.
Mhm, it’s much easier to pay $10/month then buy the $79.99 package anyway because it gives $50 of gems you know you’re going to spend anyway. :P
Now I just need a character slot sale. . . >.>
Just need to point out something very important.
Skimmer:
- Broom
Want. For Charr and Asura specifically.
I’m just joking around. I’m sure you’re a decent person. Big bunny is built for giant leaps and descents so you shouldn’t feel bad for jumping off to catch some air for your glider.
Don’t take my indecency from me. I work hard to maint-
Unless you do it over a lava pit or something. You monster.
Nevermind, that sounds like something I would do. At least once. Twice if there’s a death animation attached.
Eh. I’m getting tired of the snark. It’s gone from pithy and playful banter to just outright contempt for the PC. If I could pick my team, it’d be Taimi (for utility and godmode powers), Rox (because she cares), and Marjory (who at least marginally cares). Kasmeer, out, for conflict of interest. Braham, out, with a punch in the face for obvious reasons. Caithe, out, to the gallows for treason.
Canach, eh. Could take him back, but he wants to be his own tree right now, let him go spread his pollen a bit and realize how hard the world is on an ex-con with a snotty attitude.
Not that I resent Canach. He’s probably the most sensible of the “I’m not in Dragon’s Watch” NPCs. But as someone told me before I turned around “I like you, but you’re too negative.”
Aurene. Probably story instance only but it would still be amazing.
Also I’d love to see a griffon as an alternative skin for the bunny. Instead of jumping it could look like it’s flying you up the cliff (or whatever).
Or as a skin to replace the skimmer. And my guildmaster would love a griffon mount!
I think they should lower the aggro range for those ice elementals at the least though.
Yeeaah.. getting the freeze transformation from range “trebuchet” is really irritating.
Though, really, the firebear mastery wasn’t well designed for the zone in the first place. It should have been tied to the special action key, included more passives and on-use abilities (immune to frostbite while off cooldown, use to do a bunch of burning damage and unseal chests, etc). Because no one uses beartorch 3, and having to carry the torch is a big nuisance.
No. Please. No.
Echo that.
I wasn’t against the idea of the annoying little minigames, but their execution was tragic:
I doubt those issues will ever get fixed, and I am glad to leave Magus Falls’ “adventures” behind.
Most of what i’m hearing from people is 50/50. Some give the expansion a thumbs up others refuse to buy it until they can see for themselves that this is not HOT in disguise. HOT was really that bad to alot of people. I hope ArenaNet knows this and plans to prove its not.
I expect the same model.
Mastery points come from story/exploration/etc achievements.
XP is required to raise them. They might change the XP scaling, but expect players to fuss about this.
I also expect the same Metroidvania map designs as before, so no finishing a zone before moving on to another mastery mount.
Stand around long enough in Rata Sum or The Grove, and you’ll hear them. You’ll have no choice but to hear them…
A holo bicycle.
Since Mesmers are OP anyway, let’s have an entire suite of holographic mounts!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litter_
Carried a bunch of Skritt, who will gather all the shinys and bring them back to me.
A replacement for a Springer. When you charge it to jump, the character bobs up and down while the Skritt chant “Heave, Ho!” until they launch you into the air.
Hm, replacements for other mounts:
Hoverboard instead of the Skimmer.
Charr motorbike instead of a Raptor. It’ll have a name like Raptor-CX4 and for its boosted jump, it pops a mid-air wheelie.
Just like humans got?
I think a human face on a Charr would look a little awkward.
At least it would stop some of the clipping with face masks… :\
It is still stupid of our Character to just agree on it. Because he/she doesn’t know about that…..
With how absolutely blase our character is about it, I pretty much expect something snarky and flippant:
PC: (reveals secret about Shining Blade) “And that.. shall be my last… aaaaargh!” (PC falls over dramatically, like Anise hamming it up during initiation) “Pffft, ha, as if. I kill dragons, like some pinky swear is going to kill me.”
The really sad thing is that all it would need to completely solve this problem is 1-2 race specific lines from our Character….. and everyone would be happy.
I’m not too inclined to agree, because it’s more than just the death oath. It’s swearing allegiance to the crown of Kryta. And while our characters have the common good in mind, the Charr still owe allegiance to their own, the other races wouldn’t really commit, and as a force that works for Tyria as a whole, they need to be able to respond in case Kryta becomes a threat.
The story is so utterly Human-centric that I just can’t even.
So keep constructive feedback coming and game on.
Most relevant part of the whole statement.
It’s fine to make recommendations or outline specific failings. What we’re getting is simply a lot more rage and whining, which isn’t productive, no matter how passionate. And sticking around a gaming forum just to hate on it is a waste of time for everyone: poster, forum, and readers.
Oh and is it 9/22 yet?
Okay, so maybe this is the most important part. Just waiting for payday to get my pre-order~
Can we talk about the real issue here though?
Your screenshot folder is full.
I didn’t even know that could happen!
If I can Yoshi-bounce off my Springer to go into glider mode, that’d be kittening shweeeet.
While that may be true, I’m certain my bouncybunny could survive the fall. -3-
Probably.
