Who would you like to see back in LS3?

I would like to see Zojja, possibly in a scene where she, Caithe, Logan and Rytlock talk about what happened to them and what are they going to do now. A last meeting of the Destiny’s Edge, before it finally gets disbanded. (As Rytlock joined our guild and Logan decided to accept the offer to become the Pact Marshal.)

That would actually be very nice.

Zojja, in recovery, commits to doing research with Taimi, giving Taimi a much-needed boost in reputation to stand up to the Arcane Council.
Logan goes his way with the Pact, preparing to take on dragons and gods.
Rytlock, stripped of rank, comes back to Dragon’s Watch. He ought to be proper kittened about losing his warband, emoting some vulnerability.
Caithe also comes back to Dragon’s Watch but gets bludgeoned to death by the protagonist. Because I do not want to suffer a traitor on my team. Then, Rytlock can bring out that old line “I’ll hold her up, and you kill her again!” Then Logan and Zojja would back away slowly and go back to their jobs.

Things You Love About GW2

12. The unprecedented level of convenience.

Deposit all materials and a huge materials bank.
Easy to get together and bring friends into instances (looking at you FF14…)
Waypoints

13. (Part of 12 but..) Robust Wardrobe system.
When I look at WoW’s transmog system (each color has its own skin) or FF14’s glamour (omg so much pain), I love how simple it is to dive into the wardrobe, anytime, anywhere.

14. The Trading Post
Its actual design as a method of buying and selling is so, f’ing, fantastic. It elegantly solves so many problems and is so far beyond traditional auction houses.

id love power, conc, prec, ferocity

Same here! All the concentration stats available right now are too defensive, and I’d love to mix some Seeker gear into my set.

In the future I’m hoping for:
Concentration, Power; Precision, Ferocity
or
Expertise, Con-damage; Precision, Power
though I doubt we’ll see condi/boon extension as a major.

Daily/Monthly AP Cap Removal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hit the cap, wouldn’t mind some loosening of the AP cap, but I do my dailies anyway. 2 gold is just a nice benefit to grow my wallet. I’d say the spirit shard boost is nice too, but I have 2000 of them and nothing to use them on. :|

As I’ve suggested before, it’d be nice to have an alternate daily open up after we hit the cap, one that rewards less AP. Probably 3/day, since most of the tasks tend to be easy and worthy of, at most, 1AP for doing them. This lets a player make marginal progress without completely overshadowing the more difficult/timely/expensive achievements.

I really LOVE this about GW2!

Since I work a “normal” schedule, I tend not to be affected by other MMOs downtimes (especially because I don’t play them right now! :P). So, while we don’t get downtimes in the traditional sense, it’s pretty irritating to see New build available right in the middle of my game time. It’s a small price to pay for having a responsive team behind the scenes.

Also, for other “nice” things, I’d been thinking lately of how GW2 has so much voiceover work done in comparison to other MMOs. WoW has a few spots, but mostly it’s just response one-liners or hidden in dungeons/raids. FF14 is some very silent clicking past text. In GW2, every zone has spots that are fully voiced, and the game feels more alive because of it.
(Or annoying, if you’re by the bank listening to “investigators” for the 1000th time.)

Easiest LS3 Map Currencies to Farm

in Living World

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Berries are easiest. After those, go for Petrified Wood (do the hearts, buy from vendors) and Fire Orchids (plentiful on the map and entertaining to hunt for). Blood Rubies are tougher to collect in quantity because they don’t drop reliably from the nodes and Bloodstone Fen doesn’t have hearts. I don’t know about the shards, I didn’t like the Lake Doric map much compared to the others.

Lake Doric has both aspects of Fen and Bay. Mining usually turns up 1 shard per node, and you can finish hearts for the option to buy. Problem is those hearts take forever to finish, so it’s not worth it. Easier to complete two or three dailies.
Magic Gatherer is just below the spirit that gives the peach for A Peach A Day. And if Immelhoof is up, it’s not too far to jump in on that one.

Shall I use the lvl 80 boost now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

Unless it’s changed since I used mine, the level 80 HoT boost lets you test-drive it (only on the Dry Top map) on any character you have along with the gear and traits (auto-selected, I think). This might be a good opportunity to check out the assorted professions at level 80 in a PvE environment at your leisure.

PvP/WvW temporarily upgrades you to level 80 without the boost, which is another means of experimentation and a good way to earn XP from what I hear.

Silverwastes map, but yeah, I remember that now! You can reject the upgrade and keep your previous character.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

Most of the veterans would say to wait on that 80 boost. Diving right into Heart of Thorns content will likely be intimidating, so getting the basics down will help. If you’re coming from another MMO, it might be less of a shock, but the expansion content has a habit of being a bit unforgiving.
Also, there’s a huge world to explore even before then!

The old main-line story quests will still be available. You can access them from the Story tab (I think that’s what it’s called, the star thingie) in your Hero panel.

The armor from the boost is primarily defensive. It helps you survive a bit, but it will skew your perception of damage in game. If I recall right, it’s Precision (crit rate), Toughness (armor), and Vitality (HP). You’ll want Power and/or Condition Damage on your gear as you grow out of it. A good portion of the stat combos are available through the Trading Post.

None of the posters here even see a problem with coming upon a player that has obviously taken a champ down to the last hit before death by themselves, and they would take that one shot before that player if they can, every time and then go “oh, were you trying to kill that?”

Should we see a problem? This is gw2. This “problem” you speak of is completely foreign to players in this game. You don’t own that champion and there is no reason other players should be thinking along those lines when they approach the enemy you’re fighting.

I don’t own that champion, but when I’ve been soloing a champ for the first 90% and meeples come for the last 3HP, I do end up thinking where the kitten were you earlier? :P

Though, that’s not quite OP’s point in general. He’s trying to test his build, and for that, an instanced setting or the dps-test golems would probably be better for him.

Define an echo

The Mists create reflections of people, places, and events, and the more significant the thing being echoed, the stronger the reflection is. The legends channeled by revenants are the echoes of particularly significant individuals. They have personalities that are at least similar to the being that they are a reflection of, but they do not contain (or, at least, do not have to contain) the spirit of the entity in question.

So when a revenant channels, say, Mallyx, they are not actually channeling Mallyx per se but a memory of Mallyx which is imprinted into the Mists.

2000% more story about Revenants presented by random forumer than is present in game. ANet, I am disappoint.

Would you like to see more "realistic" sets?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I don’t expect “realism” per se, but I would like some more modesty in some of the designs that are released. It seems like what we get in outfits, weapons, and/or pieces are over-designed and chunky, rather than intricate and sleek.

I think the idea of this thread is to have more choice. We have plenty of over-the-top armor and outfits, and certainly some of the blue / green level stuff is more “plain” but the plain stuff isn’t always very realistic. So some realistic choices would be nice whether they are plate mail, leather, robes, etc.

I’m not like the anti-Outfit people who say “NEVER DO THIS AGAIN REEEE”. :P

I’d like more tasteful options, but the tacky ones can join in too. Some people like tacky. We’re just inundated with tacky. And those “unique” pieces are harder to fit into a cohesive look.
Realistic choices would probably join the ‘tasteful’ cluster and serve as a good base for more intricate design.

Personally, I would like to see more “lighter” styles of heavy armour, non-trenchcoats for med armour and…

… I’m actually happy with light armour!

My ideal would be to scrap the whole system and just jumble all the skins together, but that would probably be too much to hope for!

Yes, considering that outfits mean that you can’t tell a character’s armor class anyway, they really should allow mix-and-match between the weights. But I do think that would be too difficult for Anet to want to do.

It comes down to a technical limitation in how the different armor weight rigs were done. (Definitely short-sighted design choice…) That makes the seams different between the different weights, so it would take a ton of rework to get them all to fit together. We’re not likely to see mixed armor weights, ever.

Mounts [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

And if Mounts were anything but cosmetic it could ruin some minor balance/profession philosophies.

It would also add unnecessary clutter.

If it’s for PvE, that “balance” is skewed anyway. And PvE is the only place mounts should exist, if ANet does consider adding them. And if those are added (suspicious leaks suggest it as a mastery) they may or may not make it to core Tyria or HoT, which means the zones would be designed with mounts as a consideration. We’re already seeing new zones with fewer waypoints, and that design pattern may continue into the next expansion.

K. Bye.

You’re expecting a lot more from an MMO than it can provide, especially in a story context. ANet tried an actual Living World, and it didn’t work out, because they discovered that beyond their limited means to produce content, they were throwing it away. It’s an MMO, of course choices don’t matter. If your choices mattered, then it would have to change the entire world around your choices, which just doesn’t work in an environment where everyone is the main hero. That’s just.. basic facts.

So, good luck finding the game you want, but it’s not going to be an MMO.

Yeah, I agree. I feel like the designers are trying, but they’re not connecting with a consistent aesthetic, and some of them are downright bad (Slayer, Mordrem anything, some of the shoulders/gloves/wings).

We’ve been clamoring for simpler, close-cut designs (and summer fashions!), but what we get are goofy hats, flaming backpacks, and buttcapes.

Agreed. Changing the participation requirements for collections/legendaries/mastery to Bronze would be great, but Gold rank on those should carry some reward for those who can do them. Give minis, toys, titles, whatever.

I wish I didn’t hate Adventures, but the control interaction just isn’t smooth, and the terrains they occur in are absolutely horrible, full of niches and snags that make playing them a chore.

Build Templates Like in the Original GW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I vaguely remember it starting with templates but then the game was simpler when it came to stats and such. What we have now was likely a design choice and implementing build templates may not be as easy as it would seem. Just like a race change sounds like it would be easy except we’ve heard from Anet that it’s not.

I recall it being on their “do want” list.
I have no illusions that it’s “easy”. And there are a ton of considerations with it, if it’s going to be done right.

How much memory/performance will it take? When should swaps be allowed? How long should it take? What about gear? Where do we store the gear? In the template? On the character? If on the character, how are exceptions and null pointers handled?

…Yeah, it’s a huge deal. So I don’t blame ANet for taking their time to find the right approach.

But if we get mounts (half the community seems “do not want”) before build templates (healthy support with little opposition), I’m gonna laaaugh.

I’d be glad enough if the rewards were proportional to the task.

Vista Viewer? Easy peasy, but the reward is kinda junk so.. :P

4 Level 80 Zerg Events? Kitten that. It’s not worth a scroll and a tiny karma pot. I don’t do it, unless it’s a very active zone, like HoT maps or Silverwastes. That needs to get changed to Regional events.

It looks like daily JP is gone now. Sad. I like helping people with it.

Daily dungeon at least spurs players into dungeons. Fractals should count as part of the daily list. I’d never need to do fake-PvP again. ^^

Activity Participation needs to move to PvP where it belongs. :\

And Daily Waiting on a Boss to Show Up needs to switch it a generic daily boss killer. Getting lucky enough to align a schedule with a boss within its 2-3 hour window is obnoxious.

Build Templates Like in the Original GW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

As I had said, there may not be enough people who would utilize the tool to be worth developing it at that time or even now. It’s similar to arguing for in-game voice chat on the grounds that it facilitates more communication. How many would use it (rhetorical)?

Question? Answer! Especially for the lack of equivalence. Voice chat support would require much more server load and maintenance, which is why most MMOs avoid it like the toxic plague it is. Harsh words for a useful tool, right? Because build templates are not a social facilitator, they are a convenience for mid-to-high level play, well within the reach of the playerbase at large.

Considering the push back I always get when I argue that pretty much all builds are viable

Difference in context. When speaking of viable vs optimal, it’s because of player toxicity, a social construct.
And again, a meta build could be stocked in a template, making it much easier to “play the meta.” Granted, the reason people don’t play meta is usually play styles and lack of interest in being told what to do, but making it easier to slip on meta like comfy slippers instead of plate mail armor would do wonders for some.

Considering that the game is this far, and we’ve heard nothing since a couple years ago about build templates, I’d say that it’s not high on their priority list.

Or maybe, as was explained in context earlier, they were too busy redesigning the character/skill systems repeatedly instead of refining them with build templates. It’s a want-to-do, but their focus has been elsewhere. It’s understandable. But now that trait systems are stable (fingers crossed in hope), build templates are a plausible refinement.
Because mounts haven’t been in the game, it must be a low priority, right? Except the rumors are they’re masteries in the upcoming expansion. It’s 100% rumor and speculation, but just because something isn’t in the game yet, doesn’t mean they’re not working on it in some way.

Considering that the last part goes against your argument against me using a rhetorical question, I find that a bit surprising.

But was it really a rhetorical question if I actually wanted an answer?~

Since you said you never played GW1

I mostly wanted to know if GW1 started with templates. Because that gives GW2’s path to templates some parity.

There are builds for solo farming, there are builds for speed run vanquishing, there are builds for certain missions, there are builds for elite maps, and so on.

So.. mostly like GW2, if a bit more stringent. There’s builds for solo farming (swiftness optimization), speed runs (dungeon/fractal/raid metas), builds for specific bosses, etc. And if PvP/WvW gets templates as well, it might be used for countering specific team comps, adding a layer of dynamics to competitive gameplay.

Anyways, arguing back and forth over the meaning isn’t going to contribute anything.

But you will~ <3

You’re the one that started arguing over my usage of a rhetorical question.

And I was right~ <3

Perhaps I’m mistaken by what others have said since I have not played Adventures myself: is it untrue that you can’t be in an Adventure with other players? Can you actually do an Adventure in a party so that other people can help you? That would be awesome.

As to outside sourcing, that has nothing to do with “solo”.

Adventures are solo, but most occur in a group space. Which makes them harder to do when other people are around. Heads and bodies blocking Shooting Gallery or Salvage Pit becoming a literal field of green death.

Build Templates Like in the Original GW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There may still not be enough players that change builds to make it a high priority to Anet.

Because there isn’t a tool that encourages changing builds!

If you build (template) it, they will come~

So many players have this “meta or gtfo” mentality so they’ll generally play the one build. Sure, there are players that do swap stuff around when needed but is that really the case for the majority of players?

“Many players”? “Majority”? I’m sure ANet could dredge up stats on that. But the two statements are talking from opposite sides of the mouth. Do “most players” play the meta? It’s hard to say, but the pulse on the community says probably not. And even if they do copy something from Metabattle, they’re likely not using it properly unless it’s in the group role and situational context it was created for.
And if you’re a player in a group/situation that does go for the meta, there are different metas for each situation and group composition. As someone specified above: two people bring builds for the same role? One person swaps their build, something made much faster with build templates. It removes the searching and auditing time (and possibly the gear swapping time, if done right) that would hold up a meta-running group.

I’m not against build templates. If you read my post, and the one I was responding to, I was providing them a possible answer.

As far as rhetorical questions go, they could have answers or they could have not. I suggest that you look up rhetorical questions specifically, and how they’re used, instead of just “rhetorical”. Somekbe could tell me that they died trying to solo a legendary and I could respond with a “You think?”. It may be a question but I’m not expecting an actual answer.

rhe·tor·i·cal
adjective
relating to or concerned with the art of rhetoric. [See recursion about persuasion]
(of a question) asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information.

Reeead. Why do people not read text before answering? (Oops, that must have been a rhetorical question. Except I’d very much like an answer for it. :P)

And it doesn’t really address the statement. It’s supposition, a “maybe of maybes,” that was brought up in absence of deeper context. Did GW1 start with build templates? (I honestly don’t know, never played it.) Of the MMOs I’ve played, I don’t recall any that started with them, except maybe FFXIV, if only because the class change system was that embedded in the experience. So GW2 could be forgiven for not starting with build templates, especially since it redesigned its character system repeatedly.
But that doesn’t change the need/desire for it now.

However, the gain from that is minimal due to the design of GW2 compared to GW1.

Elaborate.

Anyways, arguing back and forth over the meaning isn’t going to contribute anything.

But you will~ <3

Stop making unannounced changes to the game

I’m still with Rasimir.6239. What changes is the OP referring to? Coming here, dropping a complaint with nothing to back it up is not at all constructive…

Complaining about it at all, unless it’s especially rampant (and if it’s hugely rampant, there would be a long list of evidence…), is kinda childish anyway. Or at least showing a lapse in knowledge of how software design works. Sometimes, notes don’t make it to the one person who’s compiling it for release. It’s not that big of a deal.

Perfect World (where I met my IRL husband) had a great marriage system. Even had a daily quest. I’m all for it!

Not a bad idea! Couples quests. (Or for the especially loved, bonus raids? :P)

Though I can just see how ANet would botch the design. “Challenging content” for couples~

Additions to Material Storage

cam we get a tonic unlock section and somplace to stash all the numerous toys I have purchased?

That would be the bank. Unless you make a habit of buying 250 of the same toy each time one is released.

That is not even close to what is being asked for there. :\

Tonics definitely don’t belong in material storage, but I’m sure more than a few people would be ecstatic if toys and tonics had their own accessibility tab.

Bring back The Festival of the Four Winds!

Rumor is we’ll be getting Wintersday in July. It may not be the festival that the OP wanted but it’s something.

Source for the curious?

I mean, no biggie if there isn’t one, I find rumors quaint too.

>.> I just hope it’s not the “give away lots of quartz” kind of Wintersday in July.

Bring back The Festival of the Four Winds!

in Living World

Festival of the Four Winds was good for two things.

  1. Sanctum Sprint – Currently available in the Activity rotation in Lion’s Arch.
  2. Traders – Shoveling tons of underpriced, vendor-trash goods for unique prizes.

Can we bring the second back? For some of our price-sagging materials (and runes/sigils), have vendors be willing to take stacks of them in exchange for their unique currency. Trade that currency for new and old skins, recipes, minis, consumables, etc. It could even hold some unique Zepherite-themed runes (lightning, sun, wind).

I probably should have specified it was a rhetorical question.

rhet·o·ric
noun
the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.

Unfortunately, the question didn’t seem to persuade anyone. :P You got lots of examples of people who have many different builds, and templates would make that so much easier.

Three people… compared to the entire playerbase.

Also, I said rhetorical question and not rhetoric. Although similar, they’re not the same.

rhe·tor·i·cal
adjective
relating to or concerned with the art of rhetoric. [See recursion about persuasion]
(of a question) asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information.

Then why bother asking the question? Just say what you want. If you don’t want build templates, then say you don’t. A fake question (that got answered, ha) poses no intent of an opinion. It’s akin to sarcasm.

One half-statement versus three representative statements certainly skews on the side of those requesting build templates. Make that four. I want templates too.

Why?
Because it would encourage me to:

  1. experiment with builds more
  2. pull away from have one “traveling” or “meta” build that tries to do everything
  3. embrace GW2’s flexibility and better adapt to in-game situations

Out of all the QoL improvements we could currently hope for, build templates probably has the greatest impact on actual gameplay.

Scaling drawback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

That is an unfortunate side effect of the scaling not really pulling higher levels down to map level, thanks to their better gear and full array of skills and traits, combined with the occasional “do 4 events in this starter map” daily.

You are most likely seeing that when level 80’s have a do-four-events daily; otherwise they don’t have much incentive to speed-roll the low level events.

This and beyond this.

ANet really needs to change that zone-specific daily to a regional daily so we’re not cramming tons of players into overwhelming the events.

Could it be that we don’t have revealing armor for males because the anatomy on the models is a little ‘off’ and they don’t want us to notice? Stray hypothesis, but now I’m curious.

I am all for buffs and bonus for an in-game marriage….as long as they all disappear once one of the 2 married parties dies.

That’d be hilarious and annoying.

“You were defeated.” "
To death do you part. You are no longer espoused."

And then they have to get married again. And the game keeps track of it, so there’s a list of names a mile long of all your “spouses”. And if you want a divorce, just go to On Wings of Gold then fail to open your glider.

REmove the adventure from collection

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

In conclusion, the game should not encourage gameplay that is not fun for a non-negligible part of the players. I cannot write “force gameplay”, because collections are optional.

In the last days, they are trying to get people into Dungeons. They are not fun either, but ArenaNet seems to think if they make just more people play them, they become more fun somehow. I’m pretty sure only a tiny percentage of players would do mini games like “adventures” and “activities” if they were not tied to mastery points, collections or dailies.

I’m pretty good at console and jump’n run games in general, so I am able to train those adventures and get gold or at least silver (depends on how much time I want to spend). I just want to play an MMO in my free time, not jump’n run. That is why I’m playing GW2 and not console games, right? I have silver or gold in most of the “adventures”, but only for the mastery points.

The person who got the idea to put mini-games into MMO games must have been a misunderstood sarcastic one. And some people seem to love them, which I don’t get. If you want to play a console game to take a break from the MMO, just leave the PC and play one. What’s next, arcade mini games that give Mystic Clovers?

There’s a seemingly large chunk of the ANet staff that’s into the old Nintendo-era nostalgia. The Nintendo-hard nostalgia, if you will. It’s been present ever since launch (and subsequently toned down afterward), and it’s resurfaced in Adventures. Thing is, the Nintendo-hard era was early in the wild frontier of gaming, before video game design grew in analytical/academic discipline, before things like “conveyance,” “iteration time,” and “humane design” became common phrases in game-design schools.

It’s not terrible that Adventures exist, though I’d prefer they not be tied to collections/legendaries. They might even have been fun. If they had been executed cleanly. But most Adventures are lag-prone, sticky-controlled messes. As it is, I’ve spit more invective from these chunky, ill-conceived minigames than I did the Caudacus fight (Jade constructs included).

Beach/ Mermaid summer outfit

Why isn’t this thread being bombed into oblivion by puritans? I made an outfit request thread a few weeks ago that got lots of hate from…. certain people.

I fully support the addition of a bathing suit outfit. I just hate the double standard. A bikini is far more revealing and “sexualizing” than a school uniform, yet everyone seems cool with it…

  • Spaghetti string panties with cleavage and booty hanging out: perfectly fine.
  • Uniform with far more cloth coverage : literally for pedophiles.

That’s okay, I support perversion of both the clothed and unclothed varieties!
Swimsuits and school outfits for everyone!

Snark aside, I really wouldn’t mind seeing both, though I’m a little scared of what the outfit design team would come up with after the Slayer/Sentinel/crazy-grass-thing tragedies and the Bandit Sniper outfit that clips 8 Ways to Sunday on Charr.

They could at least implement something like a couple-system.

You get a hearty-buff when you and your partner are on the same map, which gives you something like +10% EXP/Karma and get a teleport-to-your-partner-item which is basically a teleport-to-friend but with unlimited use and instead 30-60 minutes cooldown.

Wouldn’t need the XP boost (or the karma, honestly), but the teleport item would be a pretty fantastic reward for helping joined characters.

Though, what about multiamory? (I’m not mixing my Greek and Latin roots. Hmph.)

Or what about a Warband system for Charr?

Do Asura even get married? o_O
