Feedback:why gf couldn't get into this game

If she got bored during the main campaign, she would have completely fallen off afterward. She would have had to buy Season 2 (for gems or gold) to get disappointing cringe and agonizing wait times. Then, into HoT zones and through Season 3, the story is very hit-and-miss. And it’s mostly miss.

Sorry your GF wasn’t having fun with it and can’t join you in game. I know the feeling. My beau doesn’t like the GW2 experience, and that’s sad for me, but he comes from the WoW era of “tanks get to be special” and where said tanks don’t have to try hard at all to survive. Face-tanking just isn’t possible in GW2, and the combat-encounter designers really hate melee characters.

A: There is no point. If you’re not having fun, put the game down for a bit and come back when there’s something to do.

It’ll likely be locked behind an expansion.

Locked behind? Probably not.
I’d discount the idea of locking behind even more, but auto-loot is technically expansion-locked. But, it’s also a convenience feature, not something requiring a UI overhaul.

Concurrent with an expansion release? Likely.
A UI/system change like that, if we assume ANet’s M.O., will come either with a feature pack or with/close to an expansion.

They could very well lock it behind a mastery. Whether or not it requires a UI overhaul shouldn’t impact this.

It’s all speculation, then. I suppose don’t bother examining motives when anything could happen.

I can relate with the frustration – I move rather poorly in this game myself and it took until about the 4th or 5th character that I ran through the map before I started feeling comfortable with it. I was even getting motion sick the first run through, especially inside that disorienting volcano. However, I got used to it, and while I’m still not in love with the map, I’m okay with it now,

That’s kind of how I felt about it. The big hole in the middle does make it much easier to navigate, and the thermal tubes definitely help, but I wouldn’t have called the experience “fun”. I don’t even go back to the map for dailies, since those are inconsistent. At least Bitterfrost has berries.

Breath of Wild has a 3D map for a few sections of the game. While this exact one probably wouldn’t mesh well with GW2, it’s a good start in a direction that they could go for those that prefer 3D maps for vertical maps.

hm.. asuran hologaphic 3D maps, while they would look fancy, I think it’s a huge waste of time for what little resources anet has to spend on the game
I say.. just learn how to read maps, they’re not that difficult

Yeah. That’s my take on the whole thing too as I haven’t had issues using the existing maps to navigate.

????

There are a LOT of things that show up on multiple layers of the map. On multi-layered regions I actually find the map more of a hindrance than a help.

“Run down here and take a left to the HP and …. oops, that path that intersects it is actually at a different level and the map did not show me that to get to the intersection I need to be able to move up and over the boulder that is in the way. Yup, this map sure is a help!”

Exactly. Nevermind that most of the maps are blurs of green and brown that barely or occasionally give a sense of the actual topography. That map itself isn’t so useful, and the only reason for not being confused with them is rote memory.

This was already dead enough outside of Engi farming before, now it’s just not worth even trying.

In fact I’d go as far as saying that ideally we get the farm removed and the area re-used for something actually fun, like a meta-chain resulting in a “Chest of Leather” which you can then select the tier of or something. The idea of a group-only mass-farm clearly didn’t work.

This.

That entire area could be put to better use, rather than being a spawning place of CC-immune perma-KD herds and an exploitable barrage of spawns. The lower area could be the start of a meta-chain that spirals upward, giving players an actual reason to show up and gather instead of languishing in LFG or mumbling vagueries in map chat.

Obligatory ANet-ignorable list of things to fix that fragment of the zone:

  • Lower the spawn rate in the lower section. This should discourage random turreting and AFK play since it wouldn’t be profitable.
  • Add one or two timed events to the lower section for players to claim that territory. A 5-minute holdout should be enough to keep players busy while enough can gather for the later events. Bring in champs and elites with hefty AoE (big cleaves, summoned storms) to keep them at least somewhat engaged. Lesser versions of Immelhoof, basically.
  • Following the lower holdout, trigger the advance up the hill, possibly with an escort. The escort’s purpose is to pace the event and to give players a bundle which can damage/daze the snipers with suppressing fire. Bring in centaurs with pincer attacks and the occasional AoE threat. Blood-crazed critters have the chance of dropping leather along with the event making the racks accessible, so no additional reward should be needed. Outside of that event, players can still band up, but the event gives players a more natural mechanism to do so.
  • Following the hill advance, players take on the battle at the top. No huge change needed, aside from connecting it to trigger the lower event after a few minutes of quiet. Toss in a completion reward of blood-stained hides (then tweak their drop rates so it’s not 50-60% T5 leather…) and the ‘farm’ might finally be interesting and rewarding enough.

I mean, if you’re replacing a sigil worth more than 54 gold, sure, the gem cost could stand to come down. But, it’s simply more efficient to buy a new sigil. Otherwise, I’m pretty sure ANet doesn’t want players making profit off of it.

To be fair, they did nerf some of the time requirements on Adventures too. :P
And the new zones have XP gained with Unbound Magic, because people complained it was “too grindy” to level mastery xp tracks. Of course, that also starts to touch on raid masteries and xp-loss issues that would turn this already-contentious thread into a cesspit, so I’m just gonna stop there.

[Suggestion] A Long BLT Co. Revitalization

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

- All of those things you mentioned I agree with and also one big thing really irks me and that is how they price stuff. When you buy gems with real money, they intentionally price everything in the store so that you either wind up with too much or too little gems (and in the case of too much, you rarely have enough left over to buy anything meaningful). That problem along with the other stuff is what turns me away from the gem store.

I tend not to be overly bothered by the “extra” gems left over, but I know it irks people about the gem store. Where I end up having an issue is that, for example, if I have 140 gems left over, it doesn’t buy much of anything (because it’s all over-priced), but if I go to convert it to gold, I still get ripped off. It’s maybe for a few silver to 1g, but that rounding error is stealing my money. My actual, paid-for currency.
Even more insulting is that buying gems with gold is a very exact process, when it should be traded in by the hundred. It’s kind of offensive that speedrun farmers and market manipulators get what they want (precision gold→gem conversion), but paid customers get stolen from.

The Subsequent pages should be easier to navigate and refine searches. Similar to how the Trading Post can search for items or narrow categories down. The gem store needs to have a better way of refining searches. It’s insane that all weapon skins, armor skins, outfits, packages, etc are lumped into the style window with absolutely no rhyme or reason. It’s like going to a store but the only thing in the store is a large metal cage in the center and they’ve put every single item in that cage.

Newer added items should be pinned to the top, perhaps two weeks before it falls in line with the rest of the items. The remaining items should be displayed by popularity.

It’s basically the Steam/iStore/DriveThruRPG problem, in gem-store form. And they’re not even toting as many items as something huge like Steam does. But yes, the searching/finding method is awful. Some categories could probably be collapsed, and tools included to aid in finding faster.

4) the art department could spend time reading the forums about criticisms on frequently complained about design topics, such as butt capes and hats removing hair, and design less items with these features.

All fine points, but this one stands out. It’s impossible to cater to all tastes, but there’s been a vocal minority that, given the level of engagement in the forums, indicate that’s where the biggest possible buyers might be. So yes, taking note of the compliments and complaints in the forums should guide a lot of the design teams direction.

But we did get magic carpet gliders, so . . maybe they’re listening?

True, and you know what the best part is? You can go and play literally almost any of the other MMOs on the market right now and get exactly what you desire, a gear treadmill to your liking. In your case WoW.

For everyone else who does not want that, GW2 will remain a valid and enjoyable option.

End result: everyone is happy with a game of their choice.

The other point that highlights how great GW2 is?

GW2 allows you to take a break. It doesn’t have to become the everything-game. Juggle it with another MMO. It’s not like it costs extra to do so.

There’s no need for a gear treadmill. If it bothers people that much, routinely scrap your Ascended gear, trade it in for vendor-bought basics, and go do it all over again when a new Living World episode comes out. ..then watch how old that gets, real quickly.

I wonder how many people use adrenal mushrooms to recharge their skills to break the bar twice with them.

I’ve found that it’s nice to have but not necessary. There’s a decent amount of time in between break bar phases that most CC skills are off cooldown, with the exception of elites like humility/moa.

Aside from possible lack of knowledge within the playerbase, there’s also a pair of issues with Vinetooth that make breaking him difficult. It’s hard to tell when it’s going to start its break phase, but even if players figure that out, it’s especially hard on melee who have to chase it halfway across the arena while on a very short timer. The bounce it does while its vulnerable makes it a nuisance to follow and causes a lot of wasted CC.

There is nothing more frustrating then being reminded of things we have trouble with. It’s why our Guild was formed (Tyrian Mystical Tours [PORT]). I will agree some jp’s seem to be impossible, or take too long to complete. One thing I have learned is a challenge is welcome, until you fail. But a few things to remember.

1) It’s just a game. Jump puzzles are there to test you, or not. (looking at you Skipping Stones!)

2) Don’t be too proud to ask for help. That’s part of the reason they are “Challenging”. They can be community builders.

3) When in doubt, give PORT a shout WE NEVER CHARGE! We can help you finish quickly or help you learn how to get it done on your own. Or even, learn with you!

it’s called a JUMPING PUZZLE. let that sink in for a moment.

For most of them, I just call them Jumping Procedurals, now. They’re usually not that difficult, and the most obnoxious thing about them is usually driven by the sloppy collision detection of the terrain instead of knowing where to go.

Although I can’t think of any platformer that was as bad as guild wars 2 are at explaining its mechanics and telegraphing what parts of the environment are actual parts of the platform riddle. I don’t mind difficult content. I just want it to be explained and fair.

This. Said it before, and so many times this.
GW2 is littered with spots where the interactable portion of the map doesn’t match the texturing, and vice-versa. I’ve slid down false slopes and gamed hitches in terrain or found “allowable” steed slopes that wouldn’t have worked elsewhere. It’s a common problem to MMOs in general.

Yeah, I agree. I don’t object to various kinds of difficulty. What I object to is being forced to hammer my space bar with W held down, until I just happen to be pointing at the one pixel that will allow me to jump up onto a rock that is only to my waist.

Everything has dropped down due to that engi farm. The impact is based on the number of people farming. Since there are more people doing the engi farm than the old way, you’re seeing a greater impact. If even more people farmed then prices would fall even further. With how things are right now, players have control over the supply and prices.

And what exactly is the impact? They are looting crap, will have no visible effect on the leather economy. It looks bad, that’s all I can see. Not a big deal.

Prices have all dropped since the engi farm started. The more people farming, the more supply that enters the TP, and the further prices go down. That’s your impact. Both thick and hardened have seen price decreases with supply increasing 2-3 fold.

The player-driven market at work~

The engi farm in LD gives very little leather since you gotta farm the crazed centaurs to get the Bloodstone-Warped Hide, and those ponies are only found if you go up the hill.

The bigger issue is that even with Bloodstone-Warped Hides, the drop rate on hardened leather is only 8%. That’s not very productive, especially for the trouble of rallying up with a large group to ‘farm’ hits-too-hard enemies at excessively long range.

Jumping Puzzles are getting out of hand

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

I don’t mind the complexity/puzzley part of jumping puzzles. Or the technical jumping parts.

What I do mind is the shoddy way terrain exists in most of them, and how the newer designs seem to revel in “huehuehue I made a bad JP and it’s sooo~ hard” rather than actually be interesting or entertaining.

Drydock Scratch is pretty amazing overall, except the parts where there’s no clear indication of where to go and the seemingly random trial-and-error section at the end. Awesome in size and scope though, appreciate it. Meanwhile, Chalice of Tears seems to exploit bad lighting and pixel-sized landing pads that don’t match the visuals of the terrain as a measure of false difficulty. It’s not humane design.

And speaking of, most of the jumping puzzles don’t have good return points when there’s a mistake. “Oops I fell to death, time to walk back from the waypoint and start over.” Yeah, that means you too, Not So Secret. For that point alone, allowing gliding should be universal, just to avoid the cheap slip-deaths that are common to jumping puzzles.

I can imagine the following scenario:

1. Guy’s wife asks for hardened leather squares because she knows he has them in his vault.
2. Guy splits the leather stack to put some in his bag to mail to his wife…it auto-deposits back into his vault.
3. Rinse and repeat until wife is frustrated he is taking too long.

That is exactly the kind of error/bug I’d expect. :\

While auto-deposit would be a nice option, maybe something for the little gear menu, I’d probably rather just have a separate button for a quick deposit-all, but even that’s low on my QoL list.

Unfortunately for the proposal detailed here, Toughness already has too much utility just in soaking up direct damage. And everything, everything does some form of direct damage. And sometimes, much to my incredible annoyance, it persists long after a single dodge roll or block/reflect or aegis can tolerate. (No seriously, wth, bristlebacks…)

If anything needs more support, it’s Vitality and Healing Power. Vitality only partially magnifies with Toughness and provides a buffer (not a defense) against condition damage. Otherwise, it’s a pathetic 10HP per point. Sure, you could use that to get 10,000HP if you really commit, but that’s not sustainability, and your damage is buried in the ground if you do.
It’d be great if Vitality did something else, like incoming healing % or condition duration reduction, but it’s just HP. Woo.

Healing Power is even worse with the way that healing skills scale. The forums had bantered many utilities for Healing Power, especially boon duration. That went to Concentration instead. Sadness.

Point being, there’s worse things than what Toughness lacks. It might not be meta, but it’s always useful, even with decreasing gains due to the damage formula.

New Infinity Tools Op

I’m not mixing them up. You’re focusing solely on one aspect of them, which may or may not matter to someone over the visuals, and claiming it to be better because of it.

Not claiming. It is a fact. The new tools are objectively, demonstrably, better.

When you focus solely on the bonus UM, while ignoring everything else, they are. When you include everything else, that’s not necessarily true as it’ll vary from person to person.

Fine, then they are mechanically better. Which makes those P2W accusations uncomfortably close to being real. (yeah yeah, gold->gems, don’t really need or whatever counter-fluff) I’m not actually claiming P2W, but I can see how it’d be construed.

As it is, I’m not getting the UM set because I already have unlimited tools, and the ROI to paying 787g to get them is ridiculously low. Also, Watchwork, which has done more than pay for itself since I bought it when it was first released.

And I appreciate my harvesting tool’s improved gathering speed, which is also mechanically better. It also doesn’t make obnoxious clown/o-tron noises…
Aesthetics may play into me buying a glitterbomb one anyway if it goes on sale. The UM isn’t so important to me there.

But I want that logging axe. It is, again, mechanically better, and I don’t overly care what it looks like so long as it can help me fast-forward my alts into stat-choice-selected Ascended trinkets.

All that said, I’m not bitter at ANet for releasing these. Actually, I wouldn’t mind if every tool gained some kind of bonus. Maybe go back through the purchases of the basic tools, drop those to 800gem and return the excess 200gem as an act of good will.
Sounds a bit twisted and P2W-ish, but I don’t mind giving ANet the cash, especially if they revamp the UI to make gathering tools and their infusions worthwhile.

For the sake of parity and personal convenience, I’d have to agree that they should be available for purchase.

Buuut, not having them be for trade means I actually have to participate.

New Infinite Tools, why not separately?

I love the fact they listened to people and added these tools, but the one thing that frightens me is the price.

2700 gems is nearly 35 euros, and that’s half of what I paid for the core game AND Heart of Thorns combined. I can put €10 in the gem shop every now and then, but for me the price of the tools is simply way too high. Sure, it wouldn’t sting nearly as much if I had a few hundred gold to soften the price, but WvW being my main gamemode I make maybe 20 gold a week, so no help there.

Unless they lower the price a notch or sell the tools separately, I’ll be sticking to the regular UM tools.

Yeah, I can’t justify a huge expense when I only want one of those tools. (Granted, the mining one looks hilarious, but Watchwork :P)

I really can’t justify using the karma tools, either. 5000 for 50 hits? That’s a fifth of the regular tools, and 100 karma per tap (potentially 30-100 karma per UM…). So for carrying one of these karma tools around, I can expect to:

  • run out of them very quickly
  • buy loads of them to clog my inventory
  • get a measly 50-150 UM, probably only 100, for the cost
Why were there not 250-count versions for 50k karma?
Maybe even an unlimited tool for 5 million karma. It’d be a heck of a sink.

Really though, why weren’t these tools released separately?

Team vs. Solo: Which Do You Prefer?

Not trying to “sidestep” the question but I like both, however I hate to be forced to do either to achieve things. I understand for Meta events but Hero Points and Masteries should not be tied to forced teaming of content.

I have a super small guild we spend as much time chatting about real life while gaming in TS. I really enjoy playing and talking to folks from all over the world. That’s what I like about the multiplayer side over solo.

Which reminds me of something utterly horrible in the realm of achievements:

Party achievements where no one is allowed to screw up. It’s cruel, it invites anger, and it’s not reflective of an individual’s skill.

I don’t want to be the guy who screws that up for someone else, and I don’t want someone else screwing it up for me. (To a lesser extent, not CCing on Vinetooth. I’m doing my job, y’all do yours. :\)

I’m fine with the suggestions to change this. I see little reason it necessarily has to be this way.

Approaching the complaint from the perspective of what we as individual players can do to minimize frustration, though, I feel like you might be showing up to the map too late. For TD, I find most maps that organize for the meta usually begin doing so about 15 minutes prior to start time. If you’re showing up much later than that, you might have trouble getting into the map.

Nah, it’s not that. I got two Gerent kills in the same map, just to be sure, it’s just that the loot didn’t show up.
But as an update, I got the doodad on my second run. …which actually took less time, effort, and pain than farming Grawl for an hour. >.>

I’ll admit I’m more of a soloer, but I doubt I’d still be in the game if I didn’t have guildmates or consistent people to do dungeons, etc with. I tend to be focused on my dailies and other personal goals first, but once I’m done with those, I make myself available.

The UM isn’t quite worth the money, and I don’t have 864 gold to convert to gems so… yeah, not quite worth it, since I already have unlimited tools.

Put the axe on sale separately though, and I’ll buy it.

Most boring race

But as for which race has the most unique story line and are least ‘boring’, I’d say the Sylvari win that one (in my opinion). Although “elf like” in nature, being plants formed into human shape and born of the Pale Tree, they are truly a unique race in the fantasy setting, and without any Spoilers, the HoT story line truly makes them an integral part of the Tyria tapestry.

For as much as I loathe anything remotely “elfy,” there’s something about the Sylvari perspective that I find positive and refreshing. Even after Southsun, Scarlet, and Mordremoth, I’m still somewhat fond of them. (But srsly though, that years worth of bad PR wore me down…)

No changes to the character select screen?
I am disappoint. :\

Full Wardrobe access with dyes is a nice touch.
And give me a toy/tonic/mini tab worth using! Yes.

LFG is fine in the social menu. It would otherwise move clutter to the upper-left bar.

I really wouldn’t want my achievements/story/mastery tabs moved off the Hero tab. Again, more upper-corner clutter, and I use the Achievements tab every day.
What I would like to see is a better method of getting to the various options with one click, instead of Hero → Dyes or Hero → Minis.

Oh-hey, your notes section in that block looks similar to mine.
Speaking of, can we get a quick-delete for the block list? Usually, I block to silence emote spammers or people who /say brief periods of idiocy, but I’d also like to keep my list trim.

White Mantle Mesmer insane damage?

in Living World

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I were there today didn’t notice anything different. Of course, events do scale up if the Nolan’s Event was on, it’s hard to tell.

I think the OP’s contention is that individual mantle mesmer hit harder and faster now, not that we’re getting hit by more of them than before.

It’s possible that scaling made them over 80. I find that level 82-83 of anything tends to hit harder and have more HP than is reasonable. Not quite as hard as Elite mobs, but certainly not worth the trouble of fighting.
