Focus on old-MMO healer tyranny so GW2 could reduce its combat encounters to tank & spank?

No thanks.

I like playing my support characters the way GW2 does it. I can dps, sustain myself, and be a pillar for my team all at once, instead of playing HP-bar Whack-a-Mole with a stroke limit.

Very High Ping Spikes For 2 Months. Any Hope?

I tried my ISP and they have said the same thing. I can’t raid, do fractals, dungeons, basically anything anymore because my screen freezes for 8 seconds at a time, can’t maintain rotations, skills not activating, etc.

I’ve dealt with this before and the only advice i can give is to be more aggressive when dealing with the ISP. They can do more than the nothing they say.

First make sure you’re speaking to a supervisor or someone capable, they’ll know how to escalate the situation and put in a maintenance ticket for that node through Telia or L3 whichever backbone is causing the issue.

Additionally, if you’re ISP hasn’t already offered to do so have them come out on site and check the wiring. I’ve had some issue that presented themselves in a manner similar to what you describe only to find out the wiring had over time eroded and needed to be redone.

Can confirm that last one. Old, rickety, patched wiring was giving out, but I didn’t want to trouble the company about it. At least 3 modems and routers later, finally got tired of it and had the wiring replaced. Internet was significantly more stable afterward.

Also, check to make sure your company isn’t throttling you back. Call and complain about the spikes, and less-than-subtly suggest it’s them clipping your net speed. They’ll hem and haw and eventually reset your connection on their end, which usually helps, even if you just hard reset your modem by cutting the power for half a minute.

As far as the ping path issue, there’s not much I know of to do about it. :\

I’d prefer to unlock my spec as i progress in the story and not just unlocking it as soon as PoF releases

I believe one of the more potent statements to come out of the early HoT feedback was..

“If my elite spec was supposed to help me with the content, why is it a reward for after the content?” Or something like that.

Point is, a lot of feedback came in that, while we didn’t have a problem earning our elite specs, we wanted the main mechanics available to do the content, not as a reward for doing it.

I have a main guild that I rep, and it’s usually the busiest of the ones I’m in. I’m a part of a second guild that I chip in for occasionally. Another one’s gone quiet, sadly. I guess that’s a factor of the sort of guild I look for: small-to-medium guilds with less inane chatter.

There is no speculation as I stated before and provided a Link to. On Multiple occasions Anet has Officially stated they want people to show a mastery of all of GW2.

Then, what is required from sPvP for a legendary?

Money.

Someone else gets to pwn noobs and camp mid, I get to sell loot and buy PvP shards.

And I’m okay with that.

Heck, make it a Mystic Forge thing:

No Flying Mounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I don’t think flying mounts can work in a game with maps that are surrounded by walls. Flying mounts work on real open maps and the maps in Guild Wars 2 will never become that open. Porting to other maps, map rewards, map-wide metas and so on can never work in a truly open game so don’t expect to ever get real flying mounts in Guild Wars 2.

If I recall right, FF14 has similar zoning to GW2, with specific exit points. It still has flying mounts, with the rule that you earn flying per zone.

Not that I support flying mounts for GW2. But I am curious what the next set of masteries is going to be for xpac 3.

PvE enemies update

If the game is that easy then strip all your gear down to nothing and play starting in Queensdale and play with only equipable drops. Then move on the next level area upgrading only from equipable drops. Heck they should make an achievement for that.

That’s an argument I see a lot but it doesn’t make any sense at all. Stripping the gear won’t make anything more “challenging” that’s a quick and excuse to dismiss the actual problem. Contrary to popular belief, challenge doesn’t mean things take longer to kill and you take more damage, that’s annoying, not challenging, that’s frustrating, not fun. That’s what the old fractals were like, mobs that took forever to kill and could 1-shot anyone. That wasn’t fun nor challenging.

The old final boss of Snowblind fractal had loads of hit points and did very high damage. Mechanic wise he was trash, a giant sack of hit points that hits hard with slow, predictable, auto attacks. No fun, no challenge, no excitement. The new Snowblind last boss has actual mechanics, has interesting adds to deal with, all while his own damage was lowered massively as well as his hit point total.

Despite how many times this argument is posted, the answer is the same. Replacing your gear with lower tier gear won’t make things interesting nor challenging.

This and more this. It’s not just about kill times, but what the enemy does that matters.

The enemies don’t have to be punishing, but they should be interesting. They should teach mechanics passively through experience. There should be opportunities to use abilities other than damage rotations. Penalties for failing to mitigate an attack should be reasonable but with stacking complications so the player has time to react, not ANet’s usual 5-second stun with cheap shots or the one-hit-KO fetish.

PvE enemies update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Technically it can, but I highly doubt it. Conversion rates like this are always low in the game business.

That doesn’t mean that the gameplay isn’t a prime factor for not converting. Or for players leaving the game, remember all those massive sales the game had? It managed to keep only a tiny fraction as players.

I did some searching around on various gaming websites and the word “boring” is usually part of any discussion on Guild Wars 2 and why people stopped playing it. Granted it wasn’t a very high sample, nor I did actual statistical research of any sorts, however the argument that the game is “boring” appears way too often, and it means something.

Because people don’t leave a game that’s fun?

Granted, I would be very interested in a post-mortum from people who decided to put the game down. What kind of “boredom” did they experience? Open world in the base game? Dungeons? The material grind? The post-80 experience? The limited raid experience? PvP class imbalance? Stepping foot into WvW?
It’s a huge list of possibilities.

And GW2 caters much more to “Explorer” gamers than any other type. But once world completion is done, what’s left to hold them? After Been There, Done That and the huge inconvenience that is HoT, most of what’s left is Fashion Wars.

Buuut, lamenting endgame doesn’t matter if players never get to 80. And the current vanilla mobs aren’t really going to hold any attention aside from indulging the occasional power fantasy. I’m not suggesting making them HoT hard/annoying, but nudging them up a bit, or at least giving them enough health/toughness to warrant using a rotation instead of just auto-attacks.

Though, it’d also be nice if the core zones offered a better variety of critter. It didn’t hit me while I was playing, but when my friends joined and quit, they were blase about “more wolves” and other repeated models of enemy that just don’t do much different. The visual and tactical variety just wasn’t there for them.

Come, come, Vayne. Settle. I’m sure anet can come up with an innovative way to incorporate flying mounts that doesn’t invalidate the open world.

How about a flying mount that flies so high you get a condition called “apoxia” where your supply of a resource called “oxygen” slowly drains until you get downed.

Also, the mount will take you anywhere, but it can’t land. You have to set your traits to reduce falling damage, jump off and hope for the best…. every time you want to harvest a plant or join in an event.

Maybe, but I’d prefer if the flying mount couldn’t just “hover” like it does in other MMOs. The moment it’s summoned, it scoops the character up and soars at like, 200% movement speed.
Landing, of course, would be a different mastery, and if you don’t have it, the landing sends you into a tumble/KD and a Dizzy condition for several seconds.

And the only way to get on the mount is to climb that jp in Siren’s landing.

Pff, casual. Chalice of Tears or go home.

A possible idea to fix getting mats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

1. If we go to level appropriate maps, we should get level-appropriate rewards. Aside from rares/exotics, any blues and greens that drop should be for the level of the zone, not the character. Or at least a fair split between them.

2. Hang tight until PoF. If the demo was any indication, T3-4 mats will be flowing into the market from trade contracts.

@Rauderi: That’s because the blooms do not open up a vendor. While circumventing the issue of a temp currency always filling the wallet, they removed the need for an NPC by making the item the vendor.

In retrospect, it does seem confusing that they didn’t use the same method. First time I remember them using it was the Fused Gauntlet ticket. Makes more sense to do it that way for temp content stuff.

This outfit is in no way “close” for me. It’s so unflattering to the figure on every race/gender I tried it on- maybe passable on Asura. I don’t care how much I like the look of an outfit or piece of armor, if it gives my character a spare tire, thunder thighs, narrow shoulders, noodle arms, etc. I will never wear it. I think this outfit had potential, however, that potential was just not met.

Wish Anet would have outfit design contests. I’m thinking the players could come up with some really nice designs.

The only reason I’d support OP’s idea is that having more boons out in open world enemies would give more weight to boon strip and corruption. It could be a teaching moment for newer players when they see enemy boons more often.

And with Spellbreaker coming up, I actually hope enemy boonshare is a thing with PoF. Right now, the elite just seems so PvP-oriented that it might have limited utility in open world content.

[Suggestion] Gift of Battle acquisition

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Interesting! I suppose because it was a “WvW” box, I just sort of blanked out of wanting it. I’ll spread that to my guild and beyond.

And one more time Anet has already made their stance very clear on GoB and GoE/Legendary weapon acquisition.

And it’s still the wrong stance, but whatev. Again, it’s not healthy for WvW to bring in people who want nothing to do with it. The conversion rate will probably never be enough to justify it.

And just because it took you 10 plus hrs for GoB means you weren’t actively pursuing it since it used to only takes 8.5 hrs max (before the new Pip system) now it’s considerably less since Skirmish rewards provide even More Reward track XP. to complete the reward track, pesky thing called Math confirms this that same pesky thing confirms it takes 3-4 hrs if you really want it to get a GoB all you have to do is maintain Max Participation and use all the free boosters the game offers.

Grats for telling me about my own experiences. Use that psychic power to win the lottery next. My time got split between the before and after of pips being added. And thank goodness for those pips and chests! The back quarter of my Gift running went by
in a single, excruciating barrage of commander teleports and ungluing zergs. So if I match the pace now, it’d probably still be … 8 hours? 12? It really depends on who’s commanding. I mean, if WvW were fun, I wouldn’t mind, but it isn’t so . . whatev.
Hopefully the converter strategy spreads like wildfire, so WvW doesn’t have to complain about queues anymore.

Why do you think I suggested (and it has been suggested countless times before) a merchant that lets you trade a Gift of Battle for Gift of Exploration and vice versa? While I don’t mind doing either myself (I enjoy WvW and PvE very much for that matter) it would satisfy both those in the pve camp, who hate wvw, and those in the WvW camp, who hate pve.

As far as horses – they were all beaten to death, and beaten some more, in the threads clamoring for mounts in Guild Wars 2 over the past 5 years. So now that we’re finally getting mounts, there aren’t any horses left (Though an undead, visibly beaten-to-death-and-more horse as a raptor or jackal skin would be awesome – but I think it would be met with misplaced ‘animal cruelty’ outrage like the Floppy Fish and chicken kicking)

When did addons become permissible?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DPS meters are allowed, and by joining a party with someone that is considered your giving consent to the other players in the group to read your DPS and act based on it. If someone else started the group and decided that you were the weak leg in DPS, it’s entirely their prerogative to remove you if they see fit. ANet will not take action on them.

That is some entitled chaff, and in the right circumstances, might be construed as LFG abuse for kicking someone who participated in a fight but cutting them off before the reward/completion. And if Support starts getting a flood of LFG Abuse reports for this, it might very well become policy.

But

If the group advertised in advance that meta or DPS meters are a part of the group, then it might be considered explicit acceptance to abide by the groups rules. Left unstated, there is no reason to assume that an innocent player is joining with kittenbags.

Rauderi.8706

The same could be said for all the HoT stuff you have to do for the t2 legendaries. The time sink for them far outweighs anything you have to do for GoB.

Not entirely true. I finished Astralaria’s requirements in way less time than it took to plod through Gift of Battle. The financial cost for ascended materials on the other hand… But there’s no real comparison there.

Shows how much you know, you get badges from Achcievement Chests and From the Currency converter [citation needed], you use those badges to buy WvW items when the WvW Big Spender Daily is active, which means you never have to leave WvW Spawn to get a GoB…

And one last time the amount of time any non PvEr has to spend in PvE is ridiculous 20+hrs for just the GoE not to include all the Collection items and Currencies from PvE compared to 3-4 hrs of what a PvEr has to do if they just play WvW or just skipping WvW and taking the long route of WvW big spender.

Shows how much you know, Achievement Chests are a limited resource and I’m already well past the point on AP that grinding new chests isn’t worth the time. I wish I’d gone and bought a few GoB before they swapped its acquisition to the cursed track. And don’t give me that “3-4 hrs” malarkey. I spent well over 10 hours of soul-crushing boredom, chasing mute commanders and getting rolled by zergblob gameplay.

Point of note:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Badge_of_Honor
Not to doubt personal experience, but there is no indication that Badges come from loot boxes that aren’t WvW participation.
And if you’re talking about: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Memory_Gobbler
Wrong again. Even touching it requires https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/WvW_Skirmish_Claim_Ticket and only spits out garbage, as noted: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Timeless_Bag_of_Items

Maybe the wiki needs an update, but right now, doesn’t look like getting Badges happens without participation, so the point stands.

And one last time (haha not really), if WvW/PvP folks want alternative methods to doing boring, grindy world completion, petition for it. ANet might listen to a well-formed request.

^This. It’s just a skin we’re talking about. If you want that skin, you’ll have to work for it.

If it’s “just a skin” why is it so much effort? Just sayin’.

But for Gift of Battle specifically, there’s just a huge chunk of resentment for the acquisition. I don’t want to be in WvW. WvW people don’t want me in WvW. (It’s true, they’ve said so. A lot.) So why is it considered a good game design decision to force it for “just a skin”?

Fun fact you never have to step foot outside of The spawn point in WvW to get a GoB sooooooo Yeah there is that…….

And why do WvW players have to do more than Map Completion to craft Legendaries to craft gen you need more than just th GoE and GoM, you have to perform Collections and Map Metas to collect Map Specific Currencies on almost all the Legendaries except the newer of the Gen 2.

So one last time you don’t have to step outside of Spawn or do anything to WvW related to “earn” a GoB and if you do it takes between 3-4 hrs to get one vs the 20+ hrs minimum to get all the Pvp requirements, so again why don’t players play as the Devs intended.

You’re talking hax, dude. I think.

Can’t do WvW dailies without, omg, doing WvW. Can’t get participation without doing, omg, WvW. If you’re talking about using what few badges I have left, haha guess what, you can’t get more of those without, omg, doing WvW.

It’s an entire system plugged up and designed to force the unwilling to drag themselves into WvW where they will be perceived as either “lol lootbags” or “OMG DONT U KNOW WHAT THE KITTEN UR DOIN”. It’s not healthy for PvE players, and it’s not healthy for the WvW environment.

As for why collections requires PvE, I dunno. Maybe it’s a more terrain-expansive, variable game mode. Funny that. :|

Yeees. I don’t mourn the shift from town clothes to outfits (much), but let us have those tonics as outfits!
..and a keybind to swap in and out of outfits. QoL pretty please?

Really, though, why the faces? And why right on the pelvis, Daydreamer?
Sovereign skins were weapons with faces. Why?
Is there something about Dwayna or Melandru that compels faces on things? Can they communicate with their followers without emoji clothing? :\

Mic drop.

If mounts could get rid of zone transition loading screens, maybe. Otherwise, a little early for a mic drop.

Close but No Sale. [Outfit]

So true. I only bought ONE Outfit so far. The rest of them either have clipping issues on my female Sylvari or ugly oversized shoulders… Or both.

I suppose that does make for an interesting comment thread:

For outfits specifically, what was the one thing that spoiled an almost-buy for you?

[Suggestion] Gift of Battle acquisition

Can we make it so wvw players don’t have to do the far more tedious world completion?

Do WvW folks ever think to ask that non-sarcastically?
There’s already Proof of Heroics as a foot in the door on the concept.

I’d give full support for there being a vector for dedicated WvW players to play or buy their way into map world completion. Make an entire track dedicated to Books of Travel that give random POIs, Books of Renown for random hearts (arguably the worst part of map completion), and Books of Tourism for Vistas.

Or have it so that a character can trade 2 Gifts of Exploration for 1 tradeable Gift of Exploration and sell it to the trading post.

I can buy my way out of PvP. I don’t need to try it, because I hate the culture that surrounds it. There is no easing me in. It’s best I keep myself out of it for my sanity and the ones who would be cursed with me on a team.

I can buy some of my WvW participation. Memories of Battle are a thing. Why is that not sufficient buy-in to support WvW? Why is there another WvW requirement on top of it? I don’t need to try WvW. It bores me. Too much walking around for no payoff, zerg-tastic meta, and commanders who don’t communicate. I’d readily give someone else a share of my loot to skip it.

And it’s completely fair for WvW players to ask for alternatives to map completion. I get it. It’s dry, not challenging, and it takes a long time. So ask ANet! If the idea’s awesome enough, they might put it in.

Can we/will we ever get Fishing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Still waiting for the tuna we can dive into the water after to give fish loot, so we don’t have to passively sit around with a fishing rod.

For that matter, still waiting for literally half the game’s skills to work underwater. (More than half, for Revenant’s case…)

Scarlet's Era & special items. Is this right?

And as for HoM and Raid rewards being available; not even Anet would pick at that thread. HoM rewards would see GW1 sales tank and Raid rewards might make them money but at the cost of the content.

And let’s be clear, those skins are available. If someone wants them, go play GW1 or find a raid guild/group.

Season 1 rewards are not consistently available. There is no regular holiday or instanced content to get them. I don’t feel all that good about them being doled out on garbage-RNG cash boxes, but at least they’re a thing, and they even gave us a freebie.

I’d rather there have been a summer festival (late August would be a good time for it, riiight? ;3) that had currencies and challenges to earn those items and ways to siphon out old currencies/items so they stop existing as bank and database clutter.

Close but No Sale. [Outfit]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

No, this isn’t a “stop making outfits” thread, though I expect another one soon.

This is more about the unfortunate design decision that stopped me from getting the Tyrian Champion that released yesterday. Looking it over, it was so cool.

. . .And then the shoulder.

Why?

I don’t know why there seems to be this underlying addiction to putting faces on our armor. I say underlying, because it’s not incredibly prevalent, but it was also creeptastic on the Daydreamer outfit, and the GIANT BABY FACE on the Tyrian Champion ruins it.

So close to a sale on this one, but I just can not get past that literally glaring mistake.

Also:
Chin/toe clipping on Charr killed Bandit Sniper for me.

It’s a close call between the Raptor and the Bunnyroo, but I think the Raptor juuuust wins out because I’m riding a dinosaur, kitten! XD

The word “kitten” at the end of sentences always looks like someone is having tourette while writting. What is up with that?

Text filter, because people can’t be trusted to censor themselves. :P

But it also censors bad—- (I’m sure you can think of the three letters) for some reason, which is unfortunately, because riding a raptor is badkitten!

It’s the mushrooms I hate. An epic hero bested by a short guy in a mushroom suit.

…whose only attack is running in a straight line, but if you’re anywhere within range 300, you’re knocked down long enough to lose a boxing match. :\

Which is probably the most irritating thing about HoT. It’s not always the damaging mobs, but the cheap ones with zero-effort, no-counter attacks.

If clutter is the problem, I guess something like this would work at least. It would make a huge difference u_u.

I’d take that in a hot minute. Just color coding near the character name plate would help a ton. I’m not looking at big-time raiding, but I do toy with healing with my guild group, and after just a few fractals, I already want a more reactive interface.

Does it not make ANYBODY else that fought through the Scarlet’s War content angry that just any new kid with money can just get the same items that I busted my butt for?

Why should I be angry? I have the memory of “I knew it when..”
And why should my ego be lasso’d to some batch of pixels, anyway?

I’m glad other players have a chance to enjoy these items.

I hope not, but UI probably has a lot of pitfalls on top of the spaghetti code of a 5-year-old MMO.

Fingers crossed, though. Raids wanted visible HP bars too, but the only way so far to do it has been through ArcDPS or something else that reads no-no places in the game memory.

This so funny and oh so wrong on so many levels that I must leave you with a +10.

More like a +24. That’s how many I have. :\

I hear you, 23 mains and 9 more spots opened for PoF. But I fear my mind is over imaginative in the image you have created. More coffee I think and back to work lol.

C-Can you really call them “mains” if you have 23 of them?
