Why can’t we just have a game with no gear grind?
I thought this was what GW2 was all about. As did many of us that took the manifesto literally.
I guess you read it wrong….
Really wish we could get a mod in here to delete some of these obvious troll posts…..
Yeah gw2 sure is up for failure of the year. I mean there was only what 100 people at the last dragon I did……..
Every expansion will have new higher stat loot, and I’m sure even more in between. They stated no new tiers as in rare-exotic-legendary. WOW hasn’t had a new “tier” as they describe it since the base game legendary tier was added I believe(haven’t played in years).
Yes, I’m quite sure that each expansion will feature new loot at the highest stat. It’s only the tiers I’m worried about.
Just like half of the forum can choose to read everything negatively, I can choose to read what the company posts as positive. New high stat gear, as in new gear which has the highest stats currently available.
Sounds good. Roughly just translates out to new gear. New skins = awesome.
Really is just coming down to an argument of RAW vs RAI. Do we have to try to decipher everything everyone says down to the letter and make conspiracy theories about everything?
The way I see it happening now is they’ll be releasing the new ascended set over a long period of time, where a game like WoW will have 2-3-maybe 4 rare tier sets in that same time. There will be vertical progression, but it’s at a much much slower and lower pace than other games. It’ll also be much easier to get the gear than something like having to raid a lot in WoW. As a fan of vertical progression it sounds really good to me. Someone who likes horizontal progression probably still won’t love it, but it’s not gonna be a really that hard to keep up in the long run.
They’ve essentially lost anyone that bought the game based around horizontal progression.
I, for one, am not likely to ever again buy any gems (and, I’ve already spent more on gems than I would have on a comparable subscription.)
I bought the game based around horizontal progression. I loved GW1 and wanted to see a mix between GW1 and some more conventional MMO as well as some new ideas.
They haven’t lost me. I don’t mind ascended stuff. And I don’t mind spending gems on things I like (I’ve only done it once so far).
I’ll be honest though, if “ascended” becomes a yearly thing, where each year they release a new king of gear “tier” with slightly higher stats, it will probably bother me.
But at the same time, I’m willing to look at the game as a whole. If they keep rocking out dynamic quest style content, new areas, and new content in general (for free might I add), I will certainly stick around either way.

I can go buy the best gear in the game for about 1.5 gold on the market if I want with no grind whatsoever.
Not even close anymore. The only exotic armor or weapons that are under 3g each are those with +condition damage, or maybe the odd MF piece. If you want Knight’s, Cleric’s or Berserker, be prepared to pay 3.5g and up.
Still amazingly cheap. Had 12 gold on my warrior before I hit 80…..
This is not becoming World of Warcraft. It is becoming a nice niche in between World of Warcraft, and GW1, where vertical progression exists for those who want to experience it, and can be safely ignored by those of us who just want to play around in all portions of the game.
This. A thousand times.
This is the MMO I wanted, the fantasy game I wanted, I co-op game I wanted, the PvP game I wanted, the siege warfare I wanted.
I like knowing that there’s another 1% increase in character power just around the corner for me to achieve if i want it and if i don’t, then the 1% increase won’t keep me from participating in all of the content available.
that’s the problem, why should PvP / WvW players suffer the 1% stats difference just because they dont want to do any dungeons?
Have you read anything the devs have said?
GW2 by a mile. GW1 didn’t appeal to me at all and I don’t know anyone who played it for long after hitting max lvl/gear/getting the few skills they would actually use. Just wasn’t enough to do and didn’t have enough online component to be fun. Also the world was very very restrictive. GW2 solved all that for me and I can see myself playing for years if it continues on this way.
I knew as soon as this game was announced years ago that it would have vertical progression. Never saw anything to tell me otherwise. It was announced at release that it’d be an online game like wow/rift/etc and not a single player game with online like diablo/gw1/nwn etc. Just not with the crazy grind like in most of them. It’s lived up to that for me in every sense. I can go buy the best gear in the game for about 1.5 gold on the market if I want with no grind whatsoever. Soon enough I’ll be able to do that with ascended too. It seams like most people just tried to hear what they wanted to hear and never actually opened their eyes and watched the game in action.
Come to stormbluff, it’s nonstop people over here…….
You should go play with that guy and his doctor friend.

Sounds like you want to play an adventure game or some sort of single player rpg with online like gw1 or a diablo. Dark Souls is pretty good.
Calling something a “Korean grinder” is such a cliche it has made it past cliche status into something entirely new. Anyone who calls this game a “Korean grinder” has no clue what one really is.
Call it cliche if it suits you. The game at 80 feels grindier than any MMO I’ve ever played. That’s not content, even though you people sure as hell like to call it that; it’s a second job. If you like working hundreds of hours for virtual numbers and objects, good for you. I, for one, don’t.
Wow what mmos have you been playing? Sounds like those little kids ones if thats the case. This game is the least grindy mmo I’ve ever played and I’ve played a lot……
I’m playing more than ever. If they keep up the new content at this rate I don’t see myself quitting anytime soon. Guildies and I all love the game so far…….
I vote no. I don’t run dungeons and I don’t want my sword a year from now still being just a few stats. I want it to shoot dragons out my butt or something cool like that. You want boring items forever then go play diablo 3. If your sever is barren come join stormbluff cause the game is as popular as ever here…….
Add more of everything. Loot, dungs, new stuff like housing, etc, etc, etc. Most people have quit for lack of things endgame not because of new stuff that was added. New tiers and events and such would bring more back than taking items away by 10 fold…….
Not sure what you’re talking about OP. My server is crazy busy every time I logon. I can’t stop playing myself. I’m on stormbluff maybe you should transfer there…….
Loving the near gear and content Anet! Keep up the good work. The more new stuff the better I say! Got me hooked and working on my 3rd 80!
The event was way too long. I remember thinking how I was gonna come here and “kitten” when it was done and not worth the time. I then opened the chest and was very very happy
Loved the 2 account bound items and all the exotics and yellows. Great reward and not a “bad” event really, but the length could use some work……
All my abilities on my warrior continue if dodged/evaded etc Shouldn’t things like hundred blades stop as soon as a swing is dodged? My whirlwind still whirls like crazy if dodged/evaded…….
Your attacks are ineffectual if they are dodged. Now, so are phantasms. The discussion is about whether or not phantasms should be given a pardon to mitigation techniques based on their unique, or not so unique qualities.
Great, but my second-???? attacks still hit. Meanwhile I lose much much much more if I miss summoning.
I’ll trade it in any day for my pve ability to be half as good as a warrior……….
All my abilities on my warrior continue if dodged/evaded etc Shouldn’t things like hundred blades stop as soon as a swing is dodged? My whirlwind still whirls like crazy if dodged/evaded…….
I totally agree OP.
PS I retired 4 years ago at the age of 32 so no one had to pay me to say that
All I know the event today opening the island was very frustrating on my mesmer main. Not only was it near impossible to tag anything, but all the veteran mobs dodged and evaded so much that it was hard getting clones and stuff up. Mob would stop and by the time I cast it would be back to evading and my skill would go wasted. It made me wish I had brought an alt………
Of course there will be. Years down the road I don’t want to be using the same weapon….
I do well at pve too. The problem is that all my alts to very very very very well in comparison……
I pve. We are one of if not the worst pve class yet all I ever see is nerf nerf nerf for some reason. All I hear is how bad the pvp is in the game so I haven’t a single clue as to why they would balance strictly around pvp and nothing else……..
I was there for an hour before the event with zero lag.
I play on Stormbluff and after clicking on so many people I lost count I found 4 of us.
Surrounded by 100+ people. Just 2 of us mesmers here
I think that says it all………
Yes very much so. I don’t even both with a 2h sword. I use a 1h sword and a warhorn and I kill everything basically just by autoattcking. I can easily handle groups of 3-5 enemies 2-3 lvls higher than me without breaking a sweat.
I have a lvl 52 warrior alt and it’s easily 100x easier in pve. I use a sword in mainhand and warhorn in offhand. I push 2 to get close to target then autoattack the 3-4 npcs that are 2-3 lvls higher than me till they die. That’s it. I’ll push 4 after a fight somtimes to take the movement impairing effects off me. I switch to rifle ONLY for dragons. If I had to describe that same fight on my lvl 80 mesmer main it’d take me about 5 pages of type…….

Ok im sorry, have you read the patch notes for the other classes??? Mesmers are still in a very good spot and ANET is not screwing u guys more than any other. Just look at engineers, elem, who got jack kitten this patch.
I don’t know what you’re talking about. Unless you’re just talking pvp stuff which I could care less about. We’ve been one of the worst pve classes since launch and have been going south since then even.
As someone who pve’s I expect ZERO nerfs and a whole bunch of buffs. I find it amazing that they keep nerfing one of the worst pve classes
As someone who mostly pve’s I can honestly say yes. We’ve been one of the worst in pve since launch and have had nothing but nerfs for some reason. Thankfully my warrior is lvl 52 now and lvling very very fast. My warrior alt runs into as many enemies as he wants and I push “1” and they all die. I expected many pve buffs this patch for my mesmer and many pve nerfs for my warrior…….
No. They all seem pretty obvious to me to be honest. 1.yes 2. sounds like the same question as 1? 3. no 4. if not now eventually for sure.
They’ve already lost a lot from not having enough to do. How many posts have been on these forums of people complaining about lack of players? I know a lot of my friends/guildies quit because they already accomplished everything to do. Most people don’t care if there weapon has a pretty unicorn on it or not. Most people I know want better/cooler items to work for.
Most definitely YES! Game would die without gear progression. Most my friends/guild have already quit because they’ve already gotten everything they can. Simple art changes won’t make the game survive. I have no idea why someone would want to be wearing the exact same boring gear stats as now 5 years down the road. I want cooler everything. I want gear with cool bonuses and powers. I don’t want my weapon 2 years from now being the EXACT same one I’ve been using for months. The more new content/items/etc the better. You’ve got me hooked arenanet!
I can’t wait. Sounds like the GW2 team has some great stuff coming our way. I’m all for new items and content. The more the better for me. I like having stats to work for not just different art styles. Keep up the awesome work ArenaNet you’ve made a loyal customer out of me!
