Level cap raise - legendary level raise too?

No your legendary won’t be leveled to 90. MAYBE they’ll offer an upgrade path for it but that’s all speculation at this point. People saying it’ll always be top tier and all that aren’t reading the whole thing right.

No, the devs were very direct in saying that legendaries would always be the top tier of equipment. And they said it on multiple occasions.

So if the existing legendaries were not upgradeable in some way to fit the new level cap, then yes, that would still be breaking their promise because it would mean that Legendaries were no longer equal to the strongest gear in the game.

I don’t get what you’re saying. A level 90 or whatever legendary will still be top tier and best stats. A level 80 legendary will also still be top tier but not the best stats. Tiers have nothing to do with level and stats of weapons. WoWs tiers haven’t changed in years and years. I’m guessing they would probably introduce some sort of upgrade path to evolve your legendary into a current one, but it’s not going to just become level 90 on it’s own.

I’m liking GW2 way more than I ever liked GW1. GW1 was just way too restrictive in it’s gameplay and online. GW2 is a breathe of fresh air compared to it and keeps getting better.

Orr is “empty” compared to what it use to be. You could say it’s fewer bots, but now I see very little of anyone. Good luck getting your temple karma armors.

Similarly, getting a dungeon team is not as easy as it use to be (unless that dungeon is fractals).

I’ve been using gw2lfg.com for dungeons, it works very well, but obviously this should have been implemented in to the game.

actually GW2 pop has been steadily growing. most servers are full.

That’s not population, that’s number of accounts. And of course number of accounts is growing because there’s no reason to cancel an account, even if you stop playing.

Cheers.

Do we actually know that it is the number of accounts?

That dude is wrong. Server status falls and rises through the day.

A MMO that’s 3 months old with no subscription fee. This game will be played by many for a long long long time just because of no sub. It’ll have many expansions and be around for years to come. My server is packed with players. I’ve played Rift so I know what a mmo looks like when it’s empty and dieing. I liked Rift a lot though, but it had no player base. It’s not perfect or anything, but it’s plenty good enough to be alive for awhile.

I stopped bothering after a week or two of doing at least one or two of them each day only to get 2x blues 1x green every time.

It’s not worth going there to just get the same horribly bad rewards every time. The event was cool and “fun” by itself the first four or five times. I’ve done it dozens, so I want something halfway decent for spending all my time there. Since it doesn’t actually give you anything decent, I’ve stopped bothering.

It actually sounds you’ve never done a dragon before. I’ve done countless and I’ve never gotten only 3 items from one.

Reaver.9256

I know it’s a fact because I’ve played both games. Archaeology alone has more grind in it than this whole game and that actually provides useful things unlike a useless legendary skin.

You didn’t have to do Archeology at all. There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to do it.

And if you haven’t played the latest expansion, honestly, you have zero idea what you’re talking about. Not an insult…just a point.

They have made it more accessible than ever because that’s what the vast majority of people want. Where they are succeeding and GW2 is failing, to be honest, is collectibles.

People go nuts for the pets that drop in the game, along with all the different mounts that can be had and interesting achievements. It’s created an entire subset of players who really don’t give a rip about raiding or having max-stat gear.

The pets in this game have to be bought, and the achievements, frankly, are lacking and uninteresting. Half the time I get one accidentally.

Again…I’m not advocating mounts in this game…I’m just giving an example.

You don’t need a legendary at all either. It’s even more useless than Archeology…..

This tired straw man again (the whole “You want everything for nothing” nonsense)? Really? Haven’t we moved passed simply regurgitating this same ridiculously pathetic straw man yet?

If you love grinding so much, WoW exists. Go play it instead of trying to ruin this game.

LOL…WoW doesn’t have NEAR the grinding GW2 has at the moment.

Not even close to being true. Can you at least try?

With somebody that isn’t playing WoW? Probably not, but believe what you want to believe.

I can tell you that if I wanted to get into serious raiding, it wouldn’t take more than a month or two to get fully-geared.

How long will it take to get a legendary in this game? Longer than that, I can tell you.

That makes no sense. A legendary is just a useless skin. Took me a whole 5 minutes to get geared after I hit 80. That includes the best weapons in the game. I’ve played WoW plenty so I know for a FACT it has 100x the grind as this game.

I didn’t think gw1 was replayable at all. It also wasn’t a mmo. It was a single player game with some online. I don’t know a single person I game with that lasted more than a month or 2 before quitting out of sheer boredom. Took no time to hit 20 and get maxxed everything, then a few runs and you had all the skills you needed. After that you either pvped or quit and played better games.

Guildwars 2 player base...

Reaver.9256

As I keep saying, it’s following the history of WAR strike for strike. It’s morbidly fascinating how closely the two are tied. WAR had a power plateau, then it didn’t. WAR had good PvP ideals, then it didn’t. WAR had lots of players in its public missions, then it didn’t. Everything that counts for WAR is counting for GW2.

And WAR is now pretty much dead. I’m not holding out much hope for GW2, to be honest. If they’d designed this game well, they would have put great reasons to keep a player in a zone, in each zone. Even GW1 did this. But I think a lot of the people who worked on GW1 aren’t those working on GW2. At least not the important ones.

WAR died because it was a bad game. I don’t know anyone that played that filth for over a month. It was released with half the content that was promised and what was released was buggy and untested. Vertical progression had nothing to do with that fail mmos death.

The REAL Manifesto:...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Reaver.9256

Reaver.9256

I can go buy the best gear in the game for about 1.5 gold on the market if I want with no grind whatsoever.

Not even close anymore. The only exotic armor or weapons that are under 3g each are those with +condition damage, or maybe the odd MF piece. If you want Knight’s, Cleric’s or Berserker, be prepared to pay 3.5g and up.

Still amazingly cheap. Had 12 gold on my warrior before I hit 80…..

6 X 3.5g = 21 gold… better go grind that 9 gold bro
and that’s not even including jewelery which is far more expensive
and the runes + sigils and the only useful one’s cost a mint best get your farmwars 2 on

Sounds like you should go play a barbie dressup simulator. Especially if you think “grinding” 9 gold is a lot of work. So easy to get equiped in this game I’d hate to see you rage playing any other MMO on the market…….

Ladies and Gentlemen, we proudly present the new target demographic and anet´s dearest “most dedicated player” type: Condescending full time gamers who consider roughly 7-9 hours of playing a computer game not a considerable amount of time. Enjoy!

If you think that 7-9 hours playing time for the best gear is a long time then MMO’s definitely aren’t games for you. Gear will probably never be as easy to get in an mmo as this one(don’t tell me gw1 is an mmo). It sounds like you want everything handed to you in one hour long play session. There is nothing stopping you from earning the 9 gold over a course of 2-3-4 weeks if you can only play a couple hours a week. Also maybe look into learning the market or something to cut that time down by a lot. There is no sub fee in this game so I see no reason why everyone sees the need to rush everything.

Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Reaver.9256

Reaver.9256

So… did anyone from ArenaNet ever actually say there would be a stat cap?

No, they have said the exact opposite. They have planned higher levels and expansions from day one. With those come stats raises.

Not to mention this was actually stated in 2011, which people who claim they followed the development of this game seem to have missed.

I’d like to read that. I’ve been looking for it by googling Do you have a link?

What I have found after a brief exploration via google/bing:

“We will not be retaining the level 20 cap. [from GW1] We will announce the exact nature and level of the Guild Wars 2 level cap early next year but let me state that our philosophy of allowing players to play the game without grinding their life away is something that is unchanged from Guild Wars 1.” – Lead designer Eric Flannum

You can see here that implication; they are connecting “an unchanged philosophy from GW1” to answering a question about the level cap. In GW2, there was a hard cap of 20. A reasonable inference is that that philosophy (of a hard cap) would continue on in GW2.

All that quote says to me is that if you don’t want to grind you don’t have to. As far as I see that is the case with gw2 and will continue to be. Exotics are already amazingly easy to get and I’m sure ascended will be to in the near future. Any new stat increases will probably be just as easy to get.

Not trying to start a fight or anything but what are these scores of games that I can pay for once and get a mmo experience without needing real cash for the cash shop. Eve online I guess you could save up the hundreds of millions of isk and pay for your sub, but that’s a totally different type of game.

The “interest” I was talking about was “endless progression”. How they gather revenue is a different topic.

Endless progression is not my only interest in a game. GW2 is the only one I know that serves my interests.

Why would you ever cater a MMO to a “niche” market. They are in it to make a lot of money. Rehashing GW1 was not going to make them that money.

I gotta disagree OP. I love vertical progression and it’s the reason all my friends and I play. Not one of my friends and I played gw1 for over a month because there wasn’t a thing to do after you hit 20 and got a few skills. All the people I know don’t want some barbie dressup simulator that just hands us everything when we login. We want to keep getting better cooler stuff as the game goes on and I don’t mean just some fancy new dress with the same stats. That just doesn’t cut it for most people. GW1 didn’t keep people interested for long except a few diehard fans and bots.

We saw so many comments in the press and gaming forums of people feeling they’d run out of things to do, “GW2 has no endgame.” Myself, 2 lvl 80s, 3 full sets of gear… I was feeling like I was running low of things to do, cept work up spvp.

It’s not failing to understand the concept of “horizontal progression” but simply finding that there wasn’t enough of it to be compelling. Honestly, I don’t want yet another set of armor, cuz my bags are too full as it is. So what do you do? Level another character?

Ummm invest in some bag space? My main has 100+ slots on him as it is not counting all the bank space I’ve unlocked through playing. I only have 1 set of armor on each guy and they wear it because I’m not into horizontal progression and dressing up my guys in different looking armor with the same stats……..
