Actually mace is very usefull as a second wep. Use axe in main for damage and mace for stuns in second hand. Very usefull against fast and sneaky oponents, aka thieves in pvp or pirates in pve.
Anyone a fan of Games of thrones?
Euron Raveneye here.
Very usefull, thanx.
Umm, no. Just… no. If they are going to have playable bad guys from the start why not simply have it be consistent and just be one from the beginning?
I personally wouldn’t mind that, but I believe that majority of the players wouldn’t be interested in playing the dark side, so it would be a wasted effort, maybe, but I can’t really tell. The reaction to this concept so far has been pretty weak.
On the other hand, the concept is based on two premises:
1. It’s an expansion content, if you are not interested, you don’t buy it, and nothing changes for you. If you are, then you unlock all these features for yourself.
2. It’s a bonus content, you unlock it with the achievement of playing the game. But once unlocked, you are able to start a new character on level 1 playing the game from the perspective of the dark side, like you said.
OP I like this idea. It would be a win for those that like to play on the dark side. Also, as you pointed out, it would open up a whole new level of content. Maybe Arenanet would consider this for one of its expansions.
If you have not already done so, please put this in the Suggestion forum so it will get Arenanet’s attention.
I will do that, but I’m not sure if anyone from the Anet reads those.
..because they look awesome and have awesome combat style? Or a Icebrood Kodan?
And which are your favourite bad guys you would play if given the chance?
And I mean a new proffesion, restricted to the specific race(s). So as an example you can’t be an Asuran Icebrood Kodan
.
That would require some work from the devs, but it would give the game some fresh wind.
Cool idea, but I think it would take a complete redesign to pull of.
Still: cool idea
I was thinking about the concept as part of the future expansions, but some work would have to be done for sure,
( I will adress other posts later
)
Yes, I think the same.
WWW armor is close to that.
From the history of video games, the gamers at the end have allways come to the same conclusion. No matter what you do, the most chalenging adversary in the video game will be the one played by a real person. That’s the fundamental law that allmost every FPS online multiplayer game follows.
Do you really believe that anyone would play those II. WW FPS if you were only able to play the good guys? I don’t think so.
So FPS games are fought between two warring parties, but both are controlled by players.
So why don’t fantasy MMO games follow the same rule? Why do we allways have to fight only on the side of the good and the bad guys are allways controlled by the AI? Why aren’t the bad guys being controled by human players as well? Because that would really be challenging, wouldn’t it?
Well to be fair, some games do follow that rule and those games have the most dedicated players base.
But why is anet with GW2 not implementing the same mechanic? It would be so much more deep, challenging and fun, at least in my opinion.
So in short version: here’s the suggestion to Anet and to the community:
Allow players to fight for the other side.
How it works:
Upon finishing the personal story and having leveled to 80, you unlock a special mode. In GW1 it was called Hard mode. In GW2 it can be called :
The path of corruption.
What does that mode do:
1. On the map it is being reveled a secret location
2. Once you get there you join a secret Order of the Dragon
3. You get missions from the NPc stationed there.
In those missions you are now doing the opposite than the rest of the world: you are no longer trying to save the world from the dragons, but are instead trying to help the dragons to conquer the world.
You were a hero at the beginning but now you have changed your mind, now you are an antihero, fighting for the bad guys.
This is short version of the idea, I will elaborate on it in the suggestion subforum. Here I’m testing the concept in the community.
If Anet would adopt this idea, the whole new world of possibilites would open for the endgame:
New classes
New armor sets
New perspective of PVP in the PVE zones: think fortress sieging in PVE
New missions objectives: assasinations
New WWW mechanic: Bad guys versus god guys.
and then we can truly talk about Guild WARS.
And then we can see how many people will be still complaining about ‘’No endgame’’.
I disagree, armor in GW2 is very good looking, ranging from realistic historical to pure fantasy. still, in Warhammer online MMORPG they managed to get even more dashing and fascinating outfits. I woould love to see Anet woudl give us something similar in Heavy armor department, more shiny fancy chaos knights helmets, please.

If this game had been done by a different company, I’m sure you would have to pay at least another 15 bucks for monthly subscription, after you had bought the game. So we are all bloody lucky it’s Anet decision to not go this way. So this thread is silly actually by miles far.
I know for sure that contribution matters. Once I only got there at the event in the last 3 minutes, and I got nothing. which is logical. I’m afraid that support and reviving the players also don’t count toward the contribution, so the best option is to deal max damage to the dragon itself.
I mean maybe you didn’t do enough damage? I believe this is the primary factor when calculating the odds for the rare loot. If one would just stand there and contribute one range rifle shot, he wouldn’t get anything , I guess.
Really? That’s odd, I got 4 rares from 5 fights, one time I even got 2 rares, both perfect weapons for my class. You must be doing something wrong.
You should check Warhammer online forum in the golden days. Flame wars till death. I developed my iron skin there, luckily. This is kinder garden in comparison.
Very much yes indeed.
No, dragons are fun. You get loot and it ‘s a major world event, with a lot of people participating, and you clearly see how many people are on the map currently, which is exciting, you know you are not alone in this. Besides the whole fight is thrilling, with some great music and nice combat from the dragon. I’ve only fought Tequatl so far, so don’t know about the others. Dragons rule, they should make the randomly appear on the map, maybe burn a village or something like that, before we go and fight them.
For me at least map completion now that I’m L80 doesn’t mean much. I just go around and do stuff, explore, do DE, fight champions and so on. But for those under 80 it must be too appealing to skip the map completion. I get your concern here. Maybe when more people are 80, there will be less of this behavior.
hhmmm…thief- stealing, necro – reviving the corpses? sounds evil enough to me. I have no problem of being evil thou. I loved playing a marauder and a chosen in WAR. I would like to have the same option here in GW2. Or at least to be able to join evil fractions too, and not only the good ones. Throws some spice into the game.
The exotic hammer level80, an endgame weapon for my warrior , and of which only a legendary weapon would cost more, costs now 5 gold. I can earn this money in 3-7hours, farming, and selling and crafting. So stuff is cheap and money is easy coming. I think economy right now is great.
@eonZgamer:
No, you are wrong in this, there are Sons of Svanir in Hoelbrak and nobody is giving them finger. They are just not popular with the rest of Norns. Major cities wouldn’t be needed, a fort would suffice, and they already populate several campsites all over the Norn zones.

One day I was invited to join a another player in her personal story. We fought the whole gang of pirates together and without my help she would be pretty helpless, but with my help she could go on. so, I don’t see an issue, here, except in those rare parts of personal story, that you are supposed to finish them alone.
I would personally like to see new professions be a bit more evil. Right now we have only necromancer and thief who are on the evil or rather less good side. How about adding
-pirate
-vampire
-some evil melee fighter, maybe call him executioner or jailor and give him great axe, whip and a crossbow as a new weapon combo.
Also adding a new less good order would make an interesting curve in the lore. There are many examples in the real history: Inquisition, Knight Templars and so on.
Also I would like to have an option to join evil orders in the game, like sons of Svanir and similar and fight on the evil side. Why not giving an option? That would open a huge world of different possibilities to the players, giving different lore, spels, skills, armor and so on.
I agree with op that these hidden stories should be somehow pointed out. I remember from playing a certain single player game, the name evades me atm, in every inn there was a bartender or a local barfly and if you asked him or her, he would tell you rumors about the place, giving you hints at what might be interesting to explore out there. Like telling about a certain cave or about a certain strange location and so on. And he would tell you each time one rumor, until there were no more. This was a very practical way to give yourself some directions in which to proceed. I see no reason not to implement the same design here.
Here's the thing about "getting" a legendary, give or take 3 years.

Well if someone would be able to single handed slay a dragon, that would be a legendary feat, enough to entitle him/her for a legendary weapon loot. grinding mats is no feat at all, it’s just boring manual labor.
I only play a warrior and I love it. To see his combat animations is pure fun, if all the rest put aside. Jump up and on the ground and see them flying, kick him in the kitten and see him flying, knock him with the rifle and see him flying. Stick a banner in the ground, throw bolas, and on top I can transform in a snow leopard and disappear, just enough to steal the champion’s chest and run away. Oh and to see the drake spiting fire only to block it with a shield.. priceless. Good work on this profession, Anet, (clap, clap).
I haven’t read all the posts, but here are my 2cents: when the map is overtaken by the mobs like the dredge, then a strong unique boss/monster appears in the central fortress and a massive call to arms is sent to all players in the bordering maps, who then have to start an invasion of sort to liberate the affected map, and finally kill the boss/monster. Of course the loot from the boss/monster/dragon should be the carrot to attract even the most spoiled/bored players. The retake should present a significant challenge: mobs, several veterans and some champions should perform on the highest level of AI, including advanced tactics like range nests, traps, sneaky magic and so on. Imagine invasion on Normandy, set in the fantasy world.
