lol.

My point about buying gems is a counter to the “Anet needs to make money on their game to keep it going” argument. It makes sense to me. I hate to talk about money and how much I’ve spent, but I’ve spent quite a lot here, more than enough to cover a lifetime of expansions. I know, it doesn’t work like that. Buying gems was optional, my own doing. Do I sound self-entitled? Probably. I don’t care, like I said I have no problem paying for my entertainment if I choose to do so and yes “no one is forcing me” blah blah but it’s forced in the fact that if I want to continue playing this game I do “have” to pay the full price again. Or I can not pay and be locked out of new content.

Yes, I kind of do think I deserve HoT for “free”
I mean not really, no one deserves anything for free. But it does seem a little backward that people who financially support the game a lot less than I do (did), get more content than I do.

“I really do take issue with this idea that you think you’re having to pay for the game twice. "

I am having to pay for it twice. It’s the full price of a game, an unexpected full-whack fee. It’s nothing at all to do with the fact that the core game is included in the package, I have no issue with that whatsoever. The point is that I have to pay full price for an update after paying so much already, after buying into the “buy once” advertising at release.

But anyway your typical wishy-washy RP defense and bizarre, nonsensical arguments about waiting 3 years for a free game is a bit off-topic, as I asked what content is available to such a whining, self entitled cheapskate such as myself.

I don’t think you understand what buy once means…. You bought it and you still have access to all of that content. More actually. Nothing has made you unable to keep playing that. Buy once does not mean: buy one thing from a company and automatically get everything they ever make afterwards for free. For example, if I wanted to have a bag of Lays chips. I would go and buy them once. I don’t have to pay an extra fee if I decide to enjoy them over multiple days. However, having bought that one bag of chips, I am not suddenly entitled to every other bag Lays makes from then on. It might be a tough concept to understand, so I’ll happily provide you with more examples if you’d like. We wouldn’t want you demanding all of the cars at a dealership after buying just one. That’d cause quite a ruckus.

And again, you buying gems isn’t a charity. You are buying a product, not simply giving away money. Please explain how my argument about games being less valuable over time doesn’t make sense. That is in relation to the complaint about the base game now being free when you paid for it many years ago. It’s not unrelated, it’s even more to do with your odd sense of entitlement. I know you didn’t mention it, but your arguments always seem to fall in the same camp as the people who are salty about the base game mostly going F2P. My apologies if that doesn’t actually bother you. I’d just be kind of shocked about that given your position on the expansion. Finally, your last paragraph reads like a typical “lalala, I can’t hear you” response given your random claims without bothering to give them any merit.

Onto your actual question. There’s not really anything new for you besides one fractal and a new PvP map. If I were in your shoes and unwilling to pay for the expansion, I know that wouldn’t be enough for me to come back, so farewell I suppose.

RedDeadFred.1256

No, it isn’t worth it for you.

Yeah, seems that way. Shame.

I’m kinda salty that I put so much money into this game when I had a lot more disposable income/less responsibilities, only to be forced to pay for it again at a later date. Hate to sound self-entitled about it – I definitely believe in paying for entertainment but I was under the impression this game was buy to play, which I already did. And tbh I’m just looking for something to do when I’m bored, not an actual gaming investment. The game lost most of its spark for me in the first year, though I did enjoy the clockwork invasion things a while back.

You’re not paying for it again…. you’re paying for an expansion. If you seriously think you deserve an entire expansion and all of the LW stuff years after the initial release because you spend 60 dollars on the game back when it was worth that much (news flash: games depreciate over time just like anything else), then I’m at a loss as to what to tell you. Anyway, whether or not the expansion is worth it is up to you. If you’d asked me a month after the HoT launch, I would have said no. Now that we’re getting consistent, quality LW updates though, I’d personally say it is.

Also, I don’t understand the mindset of people acting like buying gems is some kind of charity. You’re getting stuff with those gems… I don’t buy them because I’d rather earn stuff in game than just pay money for it. For me, that defeats the purpose of playing (setting goals for myself and then going about achieving them in my own way).

Stealth gliding doesn’t seem to matter because by the time you’ve used it, they’ve already thrown like two more rocks at you. It’s sad because it’s the first time I’ve genuinely thought it could be very useful, but it’s really only good for sneaking past before they aggro to you. I don’t think the rocks should home in once you stealth.

I find that you should just kill them from above before they get a chance to do much damage. Just carpet bomb them with the number 2 skill. You should be able to kill them much faster than they can kill you.

Finished HoT story, here are my thoughts

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

RedDeadFred.1256

I’ve already ranted about my dislike for the story… many times. Suffice to say, it fell way short of what I’d expect from an RPG. Having said that, since LS3 is coming out tomorrow, I’ve decided to be more positive.

Here’s what HoT’s story did well:
-Canach. I found myself invested in his struggle to maintain control and genuinely cared about what happened to him. There are very few characters who I can honestly say that about from even the base game.
-The Commander actually seemed to be commanding!
-The boss fight against the mind of Mordremoth (at least, when it actually worked).
-The actual idea that Mordremoth couldn’t be physically defeated since he essentially IS the jungle (somehow going into his mind and defeating the Elder Dragon of MIND with your own MIND is magnificently ridiculous, but I’m supposed to be being positive so forget about that).
-A bit of the stuff with the Itzel and Nuhoch.

Those are the things I liked about the story.

Did HoT ruin GW2?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: RedDeadFred.1256

RedDeadFred.1256

While it didn’t ruin the game, it somewhat ruined my opinion of Anet. Their April update was all fine and dandy, but it didn’t address my core issue with the expansion: that it had very little content for the price they were asking.

-Pathetically short story
-Few maps
-Repetitive content

If mastery gating wasn’t a thing, you’d be able to see everything the expansion has to offer in about 10 hours (minus raids). For something that costs almost has much as a new game, that’s simply unacceptable. I will be installing the game again at the end of the summer when LW3 hopefully finally comes out. I’ll make my mind up from there if I’ll ever buy another expansion.

Why not just move to a full DLC model?

I almost want them to charge us again for legendary weapons if only to see the beautiful rage it would cause.

What I want:
At least 8 maps. Half of them can be meta event maps like HoT, but the others should be more based around single events and promote exploration by having having a lower density of enemies (something in line with how the current Orr maps are would be nice IMO).

A story that takes longer than 5 hours to complete and isn’t nonsensical.

Build upon the existing systems. Please don’t add a bunch of new things. I know they say HoT is providing the building blocks for future expansions, but I given their track record of making new things and then abandoning them, I won’t believe this until I see it.

If they do continue with the mastery system (and I really hope they do since it has a lot of potential), don’t just use it to gate off content and impede exploration. You said you didn’t want to increase the level cap, but that’s essentially what this is only you put the new skills and stats into the Elite Specs.

Way more armor sets.

As far as mechanical difficulty of the various enemies, I think HoT did a great job. Keep it there.

New Fractals and dungeons.

More elite specs, but please don’t make them direct upgrades to the others.

Were you afk? You’re leveled down, but you’re still waaay stronger than anyone who’s actually at that level… When I’m in low level zones, I don’t even pay attention because everything dies with almost no effort. I guess if you’re doing a world boss, you could get killed, but that’s hardly the same as dying to some random mob.

On this we will disagree red, when I am in the map, I wanna be free to chill out with friends on TS, and to pay more attention to chat that any loose npcs. Especially 2 vets parked right at the spot I need to be in order to jump to a mastery that is prolly gonna kill me anyways. In beta the masteries were alot easier to find and get to.

Seriously? I found the beta way harder…. I can solo almost every mastery now (curse you Balthazar!) and part of the fun of the maps IMO is that they are so complex. Finding your way around at first really feels like you’re in a wild jungle. I really think that the open world maps and enemies are what the devs nailed in HoT. I just wish there were double the amount and that they weren’t quite so meta centric.

If you’re looking to not have to focus and just talk to your friends, why not just do the world boss train, or do events on random core Tyria maps? HoT was marketed as being harder, so it bugs me when people act like the difficulty is some rude surprise. It sounds like you’d be better sorted to play the core maps most of the time and then head into HoT maps when you want more of a challenge.

I left my first guild because they had a 100% repping requirement and I won’t join another guild that has a repping requirement. On the one hand, maybe doing away with it would create a situation where people like me could try out new guilds without repping pressure. On the other hand, I kinda like knowing which guilds will want to control me and my game play to the extent that they would demand 100% loyalty all the time to that one group. I think this is especially important for new players that haven’t experienced different kinds of guilds to be able to do so without all that pressure from guild leaders. New players do not have a lot of experience to know what’s out there

It’s amazing how many guild require 100% repping despite it not actually doing much of anything for them. If a guild require 100% rep, imo, it just comes down to ego, and I’m not going to waste my time inflating it.

They are all passive imo.
EVERYONE also considered the scrapper heal-trait passive allthough you had to do actively something for it. Just accept that there are people with different opinions.

Take your time. I know it’s hard to read before typing full of anger.

You don’t get to change the definition of a word just because you don’t agree with the actual one.

Again, how would you give War better sustain via traits without tying it to Bursts?

I don’t really care about any definition you may have found on wiki or somewhere else. I just replied to you because imo this trait is as passive as other traits that are considered passive by the big crowd.

That’s all well and good, but opinions can be wrong. Just because you state something is an opinion, it doesn’t mean you can’t be factually wrong. I can say that water freezes at 50 degrees Celsius, but stating that it’s just my opinion doesn’t somehow make my argument even remotely worthy of consideration. You guys are arguing over a definition. This isn’t opinion based. There’s no grey area. Is this a trait that triggers due to player input? Yes, so it’s not passive.

If you are still having troubles after they decreased the number of enemies in certain areas, then you should start running more defensive stats and abilities. I bet the majority of people complaining about difficulty are just looking at Metabattle, copying the build without even reading how it’s used, and then running up to enemies and pressing 1 without avoiding attacks or paying attention to enemy abilities.

I thought it was pretty awful. They have all this lore that they could draw from and instead we get:

Exalted are things and they like Glint, but that egg isn’t actually important to the HoT plot.
Dragons have weaknesses! (Good thing Zhaitan was weak to being shot with cannons! Lucky on our part).
I sure hope we figure out what Mord’s weakness is before we have to face him!
Oh look, Marshall is hooked up to Mord’s brain for some reason. I guess Mord wants us to kill him.
Magically enter mind for reasons.
Kill fat.
Over.
4-5 hours including artificial mastery padding. That is pathetic for an MMORPG. That is something I’d expect from Call of Duty. It’s obvious that they ran out of time, but shipped anyway so that people could be hyped about it in time for the holidays.

There are things that it did well though:
Canach
The Commander actually feeling like a commander
Having the story boss be tied to the final open world chain was great. It gave us the awesome Elder Dragon fight we always wanted, but also allowed us to face it on a more personal level.

I do like HoT, but IMO, the story was by far the weakest aspect.

While some people definitely take it over the top, it’s a little depressing when your main profession was trash in the PvP meta and then gets a series of buffs which don’t actually address the issues thus meaning it will likely still be useless.

Then you remember that you won’t see more changes for another 3 months.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked a lot of the changes from this update and the improved Shatterer is so much better, it’s just sad when there’s massive threads with tons of feedback on how to improve your profession and then the devs just ignore all of it in favour of buffing skills that didn’t need help.

However, as salty as I am about the lack of significant Warrior changes, this game has the benefit of not requiring gear or leveling to play a new class in PvP, so I don’t think it’s too big of a deal.

Bullkitten, you need to precast first all facets, release it right before fight, use CC if needed (name; glint elite and shiro elite). After that you had to switch to shiro, use impossible odds til running out or you had enough to unrelenting assault and/or using figid blitz. Depending on mobs you have to cast rift to align the mobs in order to max out efficiency with axe 5. You only do impossible odds and sword auto if you are super lazy and yes; there were kittenty players who did that all the time, but it’s not fun then and not remotely effective if you don’t use all the herald facets. Why would you even do that…

I don’t call it hard but you still have to manage a bit and time your skills to max out DPS and evade enemy attacks.

All of which is absurdly easy. You can list every single thing you might have to do at some point (including cc, which requires all classes to break from a dps rotation, which makes it irrelevant), but when it comes down to it, doing all of the things you listed is basically nothing. You can mention activating facets like it’s taxing all you want, but they’re all just instant casts. Nothing special there at all. Not even taking into consideration the fact that with an optimised build in a raid group (ie paired with a chrono, and the place where rotations matter) you use mallyx or jalis, which is even easier since you don’t even need to run energy down for facet of nature to run out.

As a Revenant main, I agree. Sure, it’s not as simple as just mashing 1 like a lot of people think, but let’s not kid ourselves. We have one of the easiest professions in the game.

The nerfs really aren’t that bad. In fact, I’m happy they moved some of the damage to sword 2. It makes me feel better about using the skill besides just pushing it to run down energy more quickly. The biggest change IMO, is the Facet of Light nerf. Giving it a cast time is going to expose a lot of the weaker players you used it as a crutch.

Tiny buffs to skills and traits that didn’t need them. Our problem was never damage. The healing buffs are a very tiny step in the right direction, but the change on Berserker stance is a leap back. IMO, stances should be unique to simply having boons. That’s what makes them standout from the plethora of other skills from other classes that do the same thing.

PvP is really a trial by fire. The difference in skill level between a beginner and say… a bad player is pretty monumental despite them probably having similar MMRs.

Keep at it and maybe read some guides. Also, if you don’t have HoT, you’re handicapping yourself since you don’t have the Elite Specs.

Agree with everything. It’s mostly a bunch of underwhelming “that’s nice…. I guess” stuff with a couple of notably annoying things and some decent buffs to healing.
