While I never preorder new games, I happily buy season passes and prepurchase DLC if I liked the base game enough.
I’ve got over a thousand hours invested in this game. PoF already has way more of what I’m interested in than HoT and it’s cheaper. This was a no-brainer for me.
According to Reddit, there’s some pretty ludicrous power burst with Soulbeast since one of your shouts just gives you 40% extra damage. There’s people mauling for 26k apparently. Yup, Soulbeast useless guys!
Wow, a one trick pony, only useful in low rank spvp.
Also I am pretty sure the gazelle pet and the 40% dmg buff are not intended and will get immediately nerfed.Granted, the soulbeast has some really nice condition and pure dmg burst but is then somewhat helpless until the cds run out.
The overall dps is okay.
Dagger MH is nothing I would choose over an axe right now. Dagger OH is as terrible as it always was for PvE and the stances are almost completely useless in PvE.The new elite spec is playable but the dagger mh as well as managing several cooldowns of petswapping, all the F skills in and out of beast mode, the beastmode cd itself this makes everything feel so clunky and you always feel rushed to get out of or in beastmode and nothing feels really rewarding because our dmg is spread out thin over so many different skills we have to use.
Also there’s nothing new that the soulbeast brings to the table and the soulbeast feels really not that different from playing a core ranger, just more clunky.
But then, we got what we saw in the trailers. I am not really surprised by the underwhelming feeling of the spec.
Eh, you could be right, but I don’t really take anyone’s judgments on any of the specs seriously since they’ve barely had any time with them. And again, people are just very negative in general around here, so at least for the time being, I’m taking most impressions with several grains of salt.
According to the profession forums every single new elite is terrible and proof that Anet hates that profession. Yes, including the Deadeye.
I mean that’s just par for the course. People on these forums always think Anet is out to kill their class. Doesn’t matter how good the class currently is. It could be at the top of the meta and people would still complain.

So just to be clear, I can run Power Rev in T4 fractals without running into trouble (aside from not knowing the fractal mechanics)?
Easily. I’ve done it many times, and in fact it is a great way to ensure that a pug party will have its buffs. Never been kicked from a pug, either.
One exception: The only place you might encounter an issue is the Fractal Assault challenge mode, or CM100. In theory it is possible to beat it with any composition of competent builds. In practice… the fractal is cheese grater on forehead levels of hard, and you need to put quite a bit of optimization into a team to get a win. The common comp is support chrono + dedicated healer + PS warrior, with condi necro as soft 4th spot. There’s only one or two open slots, and with only 3 players running DPS builds you need to squeeze as much deeps as you can. Without anything particularly unique or useful to provide the team, the mediocre damage output of the power rev finds it in fierce competition with guards, eles, and thieves.
Condi rev and healing rev, however, are more than welcome in CM100.
Thanks alot !
To be honest, i never rly tried the condi rev. Would you say It’s a good condition damage build compared to other classes even?
It’s in the lower middle when compared to the others. Completely viable though. I honestly prefer power for Fractals since you have all the boons with Herald which makes pugging much easier due to you not knowing what kind of comp you’re going to get.
Trash/nothing of value? Are we playing the same game? The items themselves aren’t worth much, but the materials from breaking them down add up fast. It’s ridiculously easy to make gold in this game. Unless your point is more to do with rewards not being flashy, in which case I completely agree.
However, the direction they’ve gone in is basically choose your own rewards by amassing currency. Map currencies are also very easy to get with the one exception being bloodstone rubies. Most maps only require one meta whilst opening various chests, pods, etc. along the way to afford just about anything in the map vendor’s inventories.
Which maps are you playing?
HoT maps
Then I definitely stand by my points. HoT metas give tons of loot and the map currencies are earned very quickly.
To reiterate my question: are you talking more about rewards not being exciting? I do agree with that, but they’re plenty valuable.

Pros
+The map is beautiful and interesting
+The raptor is a joy to just run around with
+Music and ambiance in general
+Bounties are interesting, though I do hope they’ll have more interesting rewards tied to them so that people keep coming back and doing them
Neutral
~Not sure how I feel about unidentified items. I love the bag space, but I don’t like that they could be any rarity. I like the idea of splitting them into rarities. Maybe give blues and greens some chance of becoming rare so that the incentive is still there to identify them when convenient?
~Mobs are kind of on the easy side, but they’re mechanically and aesthetically interesting.
~This could be simply due to the lack of showing the whole map, but some kind of meta would be nice. Obviously you don’t want to do a huge one for every map, but something small that’s maybe the length of Vinewrath (without Breach or any of the build up) in length.
Negative
-There doesn’t appear to be any no mounts zones around vendors. I would really like this to be changed. I’d strongly recommend no mounts in a certain radius around any vendor.
-The story instance wasn’t all that interesting. I did like that you gave the boss some lines of dialog though. That made her more interesting than most enemies. Still, there was almost no sense of urgency. I also really don’t care for Hearts being part of the story.
Overall, a very positive experience.
I’m happy with it. Saves a ton of space and when I salvage them I don’t have to worry about a bunch of useless sigils clogging up my inventory. You guys are acting like this is anti-consumer, but I’d say it’s the exact opposite. You should never feel tempted again to buy extra bag slots and you can play longer without having to go to a vendor.
IMO, the pros vastly out-weigh the cons.
Salvaging a precursor just because of convenience, is what I was praying for all these years. yep!
Hell ya I’ll take that risk. I haven’t gotten a precursor yet it very well may never happen. I’ll gladly take the huge convenience boost over the off chance that a precursor drops.

Pros:
-Mounts. I honestly didn’t want them before, but I have to say that I love everything about this raptor (apart from getting stuck on some terrain). Just running around the desert is an absolute joy.
-The map is gorgeous, especially at night.
-Fantastic combination of music choices that create some of the best ambiance in the game.
-I like that most of the enemies are mechanically quite interesting. They feel like they’re tuned just right for open world enemies. Hydras are awesome.
-The map itself has a lot of variety for being in a desert.
Cons:
-It’s possible that I’m just missing stuff, but there seems to be less events. Or maybe the same amount, but since the map is larger, it feels like less. Maybe some stuff was disabled for the demo though. I suppose the bounties could be seen as adding several more though, so maybe this isn’t as much of an issue as I think.
-The opening doesn’t really grab me. Having one random minion with a big hammer doesn’t really convey the gravity of the situation.
Oh god please no. Don’t change it. It feels amazing and has honestly blown me away with how much I enjoy just running around the desert on it.
The only thing I’ll agree with is that it’s annoying when it gets caught on what should be some terrain that should be easily traversable.
I’m pretty casual (I don’t raid, am only up to the start of T3 Fractals, and spend most of my time doing open world content). I decided to play core power warrior in this demo.
I thought it was easy tbh and going off your metric, you should be better than me. Maybe you brought a class that wasn’t very solo friendly? I know warrior has always been great for that stuff, so it’s possible I would have found it much harder with a different class.
Don’t know why people think the sky is falling… cPS and cDPS sound like they’re better than ever…
Physical is obviously worse, but condi has been meta for a while.
No clue about wvw. Maybe roaming? Bull Charge seems kinda nuts now. I don’t wvw at all though, my opinion is pretty worthless there.
The sky is falling for people that enjoy power gameplay. The gap is growing wider and wider each patch and it’s a problem.
Core warrior is still good. Unless you’re doinh T4 Fractals and raids, you’re fine. It’s not optimal, but if you want a power build, either play something off meta, wait for the expac, or play another class.
I see people saying things like primal burst is dead or that there’s no reason to use berserker and this is simply not true.
I agree that the nerf to power warrior is unwarranted, but we’re still a meta class, so I’m not gonna kitten about it.
Considering what made Berzerker functional in a PvE environment just got removed from the game…
What? They removed banners? I didn’t see that change….
Banners are core Warrior, not Berserker. And they made Primal Bursts equivalent to lvl 1 bursts, which is what made Berserker worthwhile in PvE.
Weird that the early benchmarks coming out have cDPS and cPS doing more damage than previously then.
Physical warrior got stomped on, but condi seems to be better. Primal bursts are absolutely still worthwhile. To suggest otherwise is pretty silly.

Canach is the only character I actually like and care about. Some others are alright, but I couldn’t really care less about most of them. Also, while there seems to be sass coming from most of the characters nowadays, Canach is the only one who pulls it off naturally imo.
So ya, I’m ready.
I have played other ones and did not like it. I loved gw2 for not falling into the mount crowd. Gw2 never had mounts and it just ruins the immersion. I get it makes people excited and happy that’s why I’m not asking for them to be removed. But I feel that we should all have a chance to enjoy the get how we like it. That is why I gave those ideas it’s a win win for everyone.
Really? Mounts are what are going to ruin the immersion? People have ridden things for transportation for thousands of years. If anything should ruin your immersion, it’s all the wings on people, or the sun glasses, or anything else that looks like real world clothing.
I can buy that people don’t like mounts because of clutter (I still hope they turn them off in cities), but the immersion argument has zero merit.
The reason I was kinda bummed on gliders only being gemstore skins (and that’s not even the case anymore btw) was due to the default one not looking all that great.
These default mounts look fantastic. Also, creating new skins for these would be a lot more work, so I’m even more okay with them being gemstore items. Besides, dyeing the mounts is a lot more interesting than just dyeing a glider.
Why would they do a new WvW map after the last time? Besides, they just did a major update.
PvP. Eh, I don’t care. Haven’t cared about it in a long time. Still, you get new Elite specs to play with.
Dungeons. Are you doing a meme?
Fractals. They literally just released one and will probably continue making new ones throughout LS4.
Maps and new Elite Specs. This is what I care about. They’ve given us one more map tham HoT and this expac costs less. As far as I’m concerned, these already make it worth it. Apparently, they’re the largest maps yet, so I’m very happy about this. GW2 for me is about exploring new places and participating in cool open world events. I do fractals, but it’s not at the top of my totem poll for gameplay enjoyment. This expansion is pretty much tailored to my gameplay preferences.
Can’t wait and I’m preordering as soon as I get home.
So because you don’t care, it is not important. Isn’t that a bit selfish? I don’t do dungeons and fractals, but I think it is still weird it’s not with it… Lets not forget the big WvW update is nothing special and just based on rewards and a backpack wooooooohoooooooo
It’s not selfish to want a game to cater to your interests if you intend on spending money on it. The biggest criticisms I and MANY others had about HoT was that it only had 4 maps whilst reinventing amd creating a bunch of systems. This expac seems a lot more content rich for people like me. And I hate to come off this way, but I suspect that people like me are probably by far the majority of GW2’s player base. If you feel they aren’t catering to your preferences (though this should have beem apparent a long time ago), then you should play something else. There are tons of amazing games out there.
There is nothing weird about this. HoT did things similarly, except they added the new Desert Borderlands and PvP leagues. We still have PvP leagues and given the community response, I don’t think hardcore WvWs evem want new maps. Let’s not forget that new elite specs are content for WvW and PvP as well, so that’s like a an update to those modes.
Finally, Anet polled the community on what they wanted them to do next for WvW. Rewards won out. They literally asked the community what they wanted and then did it. Maybe it’s not what you wanted, but tough. I don’t care either way since I don’t do WvW. I will say that I’m glad they made them long term rewards as a way to reward the committed player base that kept that mode afloat.
For me and many like me, this is exactly what we want. I’m sorry it’s not for you though. I know it sucks when a game you enjoy goes in a different direction than you want, but I honestly think GW2 has been going this way for a long time.
As others have mentioned though, lots of the stuff you want will see updates throughout the next season. They’re not really tied to expansions. You can always wait on the expac and buy it when/if Anet introduces more content down the line that interests you. That’s the great thing about the game being B2P, you don’t have to feel obligated to stick around when things aren’t interesting you.
^^ By definition yes this is selfish, you want a multi million project to be tailored to meet your exact needs. The reality is Anet are offering a new product, you either want it or you don’t. Contrary to your justification that ‘MANY’ agree with you, many more don’t, evidenced by the fact that Anet have in fact invested in another expansion.
If many more didn’t, they wouldn’t have made the expac this way. They obviously took a lot of the feedback from HoT seriously. Not only that, they likely have player stats for each mode and map. They know how most people spend their time.
Again though, the other stuff comes with updates outside if the expac.
I completely disagree with the assertion that wanting a product that you’ve spent money on to cater to your interests is selfish. That’s how the world works. If a product no longer caters to your interests, you just stop using that product. I suppose you could argue thay there’s a fundamental selfishness to the free market, but that’s an entire other can of worms.
I think the game is the best it’s ever been. Much prefer the current trait system to the old one. I guess me liking the new system more means my casualness has somewhat hurt the game for you.
Sorry, but not sorry
They’re not making any more. They said this. Fractals have replaced them. This is not new.
To be a jack of all trades and master of none.
I know that’s not appealing, but that’s the impression I get. Maybe some people like it. Too many nerfs have brought us to this point.
Seems like it’s pretty much made for players like me.
Pros
5 maps
Focus on open world content
New elite specs
Mounts seem like a much more interesting use of the mastery system than all of the HoT ones (apart from gliding)
Whatever:
No pvp or wvw stuff. I didn’t expect this and don’t really care anyway.
No raids. I don’t care.
No Fractals. We just got one and I wasn’t expecting one.
Guild Hall. I don’t care about these.
Cons:
Can’t think of any. This is exactly what I wanted.
Preordering when I get home.
Edit: my post is pretty redundant now that my response from the other thread was merged. Oh well.

Good to see pve entitlement is alive and well.
As a pve player, I agree with you. This is ridiculous. These rewards are clearly aimed towards the people who have been keeping an entire game mode alive for years and that’s how it should be.
If you play to a point where the grind becomes noticeable, then that IMO, is your OWN fault. There’s enough variety in ways to play that unless you’re simply playing to get rewards as quickly as possible, things really shouldn’t get old unless this is the only game you play. If you play to make as much gold as quickly as possible, then ya, it’s not going to be all that fun. I’ve never understood that mindset though, because if you’re not having fun, what’s the point?
Sounds like you just don’t like the game anymore. Which is fine. You should stop playing if that’s the case. Nothing wrong with that. There are enough fantastic games out there that you’ll never get to them all.
As a pve player who will likely never obtain these rewards, I’m with you OP. I think it’s great that you guys are going to have some really prestigious stuff that shows your dedication to this game mode.
It’s almost like the rewards are for people who actually like the game mode and have played it a lot.
I rarely wvw, I’m jealous of those skins, but you know what? I’m happy for these dedicated wvw players who kept the game mode afloat finally getting some really cool stuff. I’ll probably never obtain this armor, but I’m totally okay with that.
fastest way to get wvw rank is actualy being a wvw player
These rewards are for wvw players and wvw comunity, since pvers already had theyr ones.
hEnce, wvw player have no problem having 3k + wvw rank, while players who play wvw only for the new rewards have some… seems legit to me.
As a primarily pve player, I am totally okay with this.
Where do ascended Vipers and Sinister rings and accessories come from? I can’t find them in game.
The new LS maps have stat selectable trinkets that include the new HoT stats. Silverwastes can let you earn Sinister stuff pretty quickly too.
Also, if you have LS2, you can get several sinister trinkets through achievements.
I’ve never understood why people want a gear treadmill. If you need higher stats as an excuse to repeat content, then you probably don’t like the content all that much to begin with.
I play games for fun. Not for some arbitrary increase in number. I also don’t just repeat the same things in this game over and over. I do whatever I think I’ll have fun with on that given play session.
I hate gear treadmills. They’re just a crutch to make people think there’s more to do. If you need this in order to have fun, then the core mechanics of the game probably aren’t that enjoyable to you. Play something else. The idea of just playing one game is insane to me anyway. Gear treadmill or not, that would get old pretty fast.
That’s why I like this game. I know that if I take a break to go through some of my Steam backlog, play some Overwatch, or go back to an old favourite (Mount and Blade calls to me for several lengthy play sessions in a row at least once a month), my characters won’t suddenly be worthless when I come back. Idk, maybe this isn’t how you’re supposed to play mmos, but it’s why GW2 is the only mmo I play.
Sounds like it’s our highest dps build, but it’s very greedy and doesn’t do nearly as much damage as dedicated dps builds from other classes.
I’m hoping this is just early testing and someone will figure something else out, but it looks like it’s fine, just not great.
My first character was an Asura.
Metrica Province and Rata Sum.
Hi All…
The jumping puzzles provided in the game by the programmers although very challenging lack the crucial “fun” ingredient and intelligent approach where the skills and knowledge you acquired with your character leveling up to 80 are useless , null and void
Its all a matter of guess work on what you should try and try and try again. There is no consistency in the height or distance your character can travel. So we never really get to know the limitations to our character. To be able to establish with confidence “I can jump this distance or i can jump this height”. ..You can find yourself jumping to a height destination never possible before and fail at a height destination previously accomplished numerous times in the past. The same goes for distance.
And then there is the inclines…sometimes you can walk up that steep incline and sometimes you cant. More guess work.
To make matters worst it is often ridiculously unclear where to go next and what obstacle will support you. With the number of critical jumping moves required to achieve your destination, the process quickly turns to frustration. It certainly appears that the puzzles were designed as a stall tactic and not designed for entertainment.
The bottom line is simply this. I like to be rewarded for learning and then applying my knowledge to my character move limitations to solve the puzzle instead of watching someone on youtube post the route after countless hours and endless attempts of finally guessing the correct path.
Michael
I completely agree. l find it stupid that you can never tell whether you can actually make a jump until you try. You should be able to tell based on experience.
You can… very easily after a while.
When I did all of the jumping puzzles in the game in a row for the AP, I was pretty bad at judging whether or not I’d make a jump at the beginning. However, as I got closer to the last of the puzzles, I was falling way less.
We don’t even need an overhaul so much as just a proper balance patch. Give the balance team enough time, and enough devs, to balance all skills, all traitlines, in all classes, along with runes and sigils.
This. So many traits probably just require some numbers tweaks or maybe added functionality. We don’t need a rework. We just need a very large balance patch.
While I am grateful that Anet heard myself and others’ requests for Kalla Scorchrazor, it is a real bummer she gets bow and now GS. So many missed opportunities for a unique Greatsword playstyle with Revenant… instead we just get more Pew Pew Pew. Most unsatisfying playstyle in the game, imo.
Dragonhunter 2.0 but with shorter range cus.. shortbow usually has 900 range or so. Who tf need that kitten? How am i supposed to feel when i take a look at Kella statue where she wield greatsword i cant use despite channeling her avatar? Lol, well not my problem anyway, i already decided to not spent a cent on gw anymore. Or at least till they dont replace some team…
Dragonhunter 2.0 because….? You know nothing about the weapon skills or utilities…. I guess because it’s heavy armor and has a bow of some sort it means it’s automatically the same as another spec. Just like how Ele’s is going to be Mesmer 2.0 because light armor and sword. Yup that’s totally how it works. Also, the spec is supposedly ranged condi so I have no idea how you’re getting Dragonhunter out of that. Although, something tells me logic isn’t all that important here.
How are you supposed to feel when you look at some random statue in game? Idk. Spend less time looking at statues I guess if they’re going to bother you that much. Seems like an odd thing to get torn up over.
Anyway, have fun not getting the expansion I guess. Not at all surprising that you won’t be getting it. You’ve been pretty negative about the game for quite some time. I’ll be enjoying the new spec. Although, I think I’m actually more excited for the Mesmer one.
Dh 2.0 cus pewpew, also you dont know if its condi or not as like you said, we dont know anything about skills or utilities. That said if its condi it makes even less sense considering how Kalla died – by poisoned dagger. Shortbow goes against her lore, she wasnt using shortbow at all, she was using greatsword. Its like Jalis using a rifle and Shiro using maces or scepter+focus. It doesnt kittening fit theme wise. End of story.
If we’re discussing the leaked short bow, we may as well also discuss that the leaker said it was a condi spec.
I get that lore inconsistencies are frustrating for some people, but they don’t really bother me. Story and lore have never really been highlights of this game for me.
Will we ever going to see Gear Progression?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: RedDeadFred.1256
If we get any kind of gear progression, I’d rather it be new kinds of gear that allows for new mechanics. I don’t want to grind out for higher stats than ascended.
How do we know it’s shortbow and not longbow? Looks a bit big for a shortbow.
Then again, chuka is rather large aswell.
Because the symbol showing the unlocked weapon on the specialization wheel thing is a short bow. The symbol is different from a longbow. Compare it with the Dragonhunter’s weapon unlock symbol.
Also, I’m pretty sure the leaker straight up stated that it was shortbow.

Astralia is probably my favourite HoT legendary, but I’ve never had an excuse to craft it. Now I (hopefully) do.
Also, I like that it’s finally a solid DPS spec.
So instead of kittening like everyone else, I’m going to say nice job!
Glad it’s shortbow. I just hope the weapon and spec is good enough to see use. Hammer is fun, but I really wanted a better ranged weapon.
Why does everyone want GS so much? It’s already used on so many other professions. Do we really need even more Twilights running around?
I don’t know anything about the actual character for the spec, but that doesn’t really matter to me. I didn’t know anything about Mallyx or Jalis either, so it doesn’t really bug me if SB is out of character for this legend. It’s really not all that important to me. Glint and Ventari were the only legends I knew anything about.
The Dragon storyline honestly had its chance in HoT and failed there after Zhaitan was a really anticlimactic boss and antagonist by the end of vanillia and Mordremoth utterly failed to redeem the dragons as interesting bad guys.
So yes, honestly, this is a good way to close the plot even if its cheap, I dont like the “Reaper” effect they’re pulling on this (For anyone thats played ME) but honestly im not surprised.
I am glad at least the dragons are being benched, we need a new and more interesting villian soon to replace them.
The dragons had no personality. They are interesting in concept, but they didn’t make for compelling villains at all.
Balthazar is already a more interesting villain than the dragons amd I didn’t care about the lore of the gods at all prior to this.
Easily the best episode released yet. That includes seasons 1 and 2.
The story is actually interesting now. I never really cared much for having EDs be the antagonists because they have zero personality. I’m glad we’re fully recognizing them as a necessary part of nature.
Maybe it’s because I haven’t played GW1 or the human personal story, but I don’t really give a kitten about the supposed inconsistencies. I think people are jumping the gun on judgment for this anyway since we still don’t have very much information.
The map is definitely the best of the season. I’m glad they did another multilayered map that requires masteries to most effectively navigate. With how much some people moaned about the HoT maps, I wasn’t expecting another map like this. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Awesome job devs. Keep up the great work.
Love multilevel maps. You’ve got me even more excited for this, OP.
It’s fun for solo content since it’s very self-sufficient and can get around the map quickly.
However, it seems like every balance update as taken away something. I get it, they had to have it OP at launch so that people would want HoT, but I really do think they’ve gone too far.
I don’t know if the class needs a redesign, it just needs more skills. If each legend had double the skills, it’d feel a lot less limiting.
Maybe lower cds and raise energy costs. I’d love it if there were no cds and instead it was entirely energy management. They’d obviously have to tweak some numbers, but I think the class would be more interesting. Maybe I’m wrong though.
