Are you going to do anything about Berserker?

RedDeadFred.1256

I honestly don’t know what they could do to this spec to make me want to play it. Even if they buffed it a ton, it would still be uninteresting. Maybe if they redesigned it so that you had some to stay in Berserker mode (maybe add back the 3 adrenaline bars, have you drain adrenaline over time, and if you lose all of your adrenaline, you get kicked out of zerker) I’ve had fun just playing through the content as my normal warrior, but I’m switching my main to Revenant now for a change of pace.

Edit: here’s another idea, add a separate bar for berserking. Make it fill as you attack and let your rage skills fill this bar on top of just attacking. Also, let the bar fill faster than getting 3 bars of adrenaline. This means you can still use your adrenaline while in normal mode without feeling like you’re denying yourself of half of your mechanics.

I literally completed this a few hours ago with a fairly unorganized map. It wasn’t run by a guild, it was a PUG. If you start events right away and have a lot of people, you’ll have AT LEAST an hour to do the Blighting Tree phase. This is more than enough time. Our map ended up having North and South bosses get low very quickly, so we let one of the Pods respawn to ensure the bosses weren’t accidentally killed. Mid took quite a while, but after a lot of coaching and support from the other lanes, they pulled it off and we proceeded.

The Mouth itself is probably the greatest boss fight I’ve ever played in this game. Ridiculously fun with a lot of interesting mechanics. I’d say this map is tuned perfectly. As long as people are capable of reading map chat, you should be able to at least get close.

The main issue I’ve seen is having too many people handling each Pod. This scales up the spawns in that area making it quite a bit harder to continuously hold off. For example, the Pod group I was in only had about 6 people. We were able to kill the Preserver well before he reached the pod each time and usually only had 1-2 extra mobs to deal with at a time. One of those mobs would usually be a Champion Blocker, but it was actually fairly easy.

PLEASE ANET! DO NOT NERF THIS EVENT CHAIN! It is honestly the most satisfying experience I’ve had in GW2 and I’d like it to stay satisfying.

Whiners will always whine. Metacritic user reviews are always a joke. The maps are great, the events are great, the only thing that’s bothering me is the story bugging out. I rate it a solid 8.5. The Dragon Stand meta event is especially amazing.

Were you also part of the PUG group that just did it? Totally agree, the fight with the Mouth is absolutely amazing. I had a minor freak out when he tore off a piece of my island with me on it! I thought the Wyvern Patriarch fight was a blast, but defeating this thing was probably the single greatest moment I’ve had in this game.

I don’t think the rewards need to be any better. If you think about it, the rewards are more evenly displaced across the entire meta, so if you participate in the whole thing, you’ll get a bunch of champion bags.

Post in map chat or LFG for Hero Points. I’ve done this for several of them and never had to wait that long. Honestly, usually you don’t even have to be the one to post. It’s fairly common to see parties in LFG asking for help with specific HP (the Caustic Itzel East of the Nobles is very common).

Games get cheaper over time or even become F2P over time. Get over it. When I bought Skyrim on day 1, it was 60 bucks without any of the DLC. Now, you can buy the GOTY edition for 40 bucks and it has all of the DLC. Should I say that Bethesda needs to give me all the money back that I spend on their DLC plus an extra 40 bucks to make up the difference from the base game? No, because that’s completely ridiculous.

This topic has already been made with people voicing similar complaints. The reality is this is a delusional view to have of how buying things works. Most products go down in price over time in. I bought the original ipod touch when it came out. I can’t even remember how much it cost, but I bet it doesn’t sell for even 20% of what it once was.

You played this game for 3 years. If you feel like the devs somehow owe you something after that time, sorry, but that’s just silly. I honestly am amazed how many people need this simple fact of life explained to them.

To everyone who is having trouble just roaming the world:

PLAY A MORE DEFENSIVE BUILD

I’m sure this isn’t the case for everyone, but I be the majority of the people having trouble are stuck in the glass cannon mentality. If you do this, you will get one-shot by a large variety of mobs. Take a couple defensive skills, maybe mix in some extra HP with your gear. I personally haven’t been having too much issue running around full Zerker, but I’m playing Revenant, a class with lots of evades and one that uses heavy armor.

Seriously, killing the mobs faster isn’t worth it if you die before striking the finishing blow. I’m sure you’ll have more fun if you gear yourself more defensively.

I activated Phase Traversal and teleported from the ground outside into the top floor of the clock tower.

Honestly, in open world, I think we might be the most mobile class.

Honestly, I’m fine with every other aspect of the mastery system, besides this one. I think it’s fair that they get you to unlock level 1 in each of them, but gating missions behind level 4 means that you’re manufacturing massive pacing issues for you story.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the amount of exp required to get all the masteries to complete the story ends up being similar to leveling from 1-80. Instead of gating the missions behind leveling, they’ve gated it behind masteries (so, still leveling).

That’s what Masteries and Elite Specs are. Nobody ever claimed otherwise.

This. Instead of a gear grind and an increased level cap, they’ve gone with giving players progression in how they can interact with the world. You aren’t supposed to have everything at once. It’d be like if you played WoW and they just handed you whatever the new tier of gear was at the start of the expac instead of making you work for it.

Honestly, I think this is a very good thing. This system encourages you to fully explore the jungle while still allowing you to make up some of the difference with central Tyria mastery points.

They’re called ELITE specializations for a reason guys. It’s part of the progression. I’d much rather have this than some stupid gear grind. This way, instead of just powercreeping up, you’re gradually unlocking some new skills, traits, skins, and runes.

No, you won’t have your Elite Spec fully completed on day 1 (well, maybe you will if you go hard enough), but I’m pretty sure that’s the POINT. It gives you something tangible to work towards while still enjoying the expansion. If you people consider this grind, it means you consider simply playing the game a grind. If that’s the case, why are you still playing?

The Only Reward that Matters

RedDeadFred.1256

I agree. The primary reward for playing a game should be the enjoyment of the actual playing. Otherwise, what’s the point? When it’s fair, the pvp is of this game is a ton of fun and the simple enjoyment of playing is my primary motivation for taking part in it. Matchmaking as of late, has been consistently hampering this for me.

Just play Burn Guard

in PvP

RedDeadFred.1256

I primarily play Mesmer (both condi and burst). I’m squishy (less so with the condi build) and I only run two condi clears (torch skills). One of those has a long cast time. I still don’t find burn guards all that hard to deal with and I am arguably a great deal more susceptible to their damage than others.

I would rather my enemy have a burn guard over a bunker guard any day.

Matchmaking MMR

in PvP

Posted by: RedDeadFred.1256

RedDeadFred.1256

I used to laugh at these kinds of threads. I seriously thought people were exaggerating. I don’t know if my MMR has gone up recently or something, but I am finding that I increasingly get matched with people who are brand new to their professions (or even to PvP in general). I primarily play unranked since the que time seems to be a few minutes shorter.

I haven’t had a close match in a long time. It’s always a stomp, one way or the other. Winning in this fashion is not satisfying, and losing in it is demoralizing. I frequently see people who don’t even know what their downed skills do!

In line with what others in this thread have said, I have especially noticed this in the last couple of days. I’ve actually taken to suffering through the longer que times in ranked since the games I play there are usually at least reasonably close. Though, this is probably because of it being a separate MMR and me not having played enough games of it yet.

Was going to attach a picture, but GW2 Efficiency just treats the pic as a link to the site….

Not really sure what to tell you OP. I’ve found it to be very effective and a ton of fun in both group and solo play.

I use Glint and Shiro with sword/shield, and hammer. I find it’s almost impossible to die even when running full glass cannon (apart from using shield). The glint heal is so powerful if you can time it right. I’m usually able to get a full heal off of it. Put that with another heal skill from Shiro, the two shield skills, and the two evade skills, and you’ve got a class that’s not only dishing out lots of damage, but is also having an easy time surviving.

Probably going to main revenant when HoT comes out.

I take it this is for actual fighting only. Are thieves still the best for getting around the map to decap?

I haven’t played the Elite spec, but I saw a video where the thief had almost 100% up time of dodges while also doing damage with those dodges. Granted, the damage wasn’t huge, but couldn’t that make for an amazing bunker build?

Feel free to correct me since I’m not really knowledgeable about this at all. For those wondering, it was one of Brazil’s videos that showed this.

Also, this is assuming that the dodge skills will become a lot smoother.

Why does condition mesmer exist?

in PvP

Posted by: RedDeadFred.1256

RedDeadFred.1256

I started a thread about how fast people could drain indestructible golem HP.

Someone linked a condi mesmer. He said it wasn’t practical in matches but 10seconds is still crazy.

https://youtu.be/KZDLmENLh3U

Not even remotely practical to get those kinds of bleed stacks. If you die to a condi mesmer, it’s because of confusion/torment, not bleeding. He’s getting those bleed stacks through the sharper images trait which gives your illusions bleed on auto-attack. He also has them sitting in timewarp allowing them to attack faster. Time warp is rarely even taken in sPvP.

I know you already said it’s not practical, but I don’t think you could pull this off against even a brand new player since they’d at the very least be killing your clones thereby denying most of the bleed application.

Elonian Leather squares have shot up in price from the announcement alone. I like the collection aspect, but going through the effort of completing all of those collections should mitigate a lot more of the actual gold cost than it appears it will be.

Combat -- Horrendously Bad?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RedDeadFred.1256

RedDeadFred.1256

I can’t help but think that substituting actual RPG mechanics for action mechanics is console-y and actually pretty pathetic.
As far as I can tell, at least for my Thief, GW2 has:

Precision
Power
Armor
Vitality

In addition, I have a very simple 2-key rotation (auto-attack and heartseeker). Using the blind + heartseeker combo to get into stealth seems to be a clunky and expensive way to get a little bit of stealth. It also takes quick and accurate mouse action to accomplish in a useful manner.

So because something has action elements, it becomes “pathetic”? Whatever floats your boat man, but no need to kitten all over an entire genre of gaming….

In addition to the attributes you’ve listed, GW2 also has:
Condition dammage -burning, poison, torment, etc.
Condition duration -makes the above effects last longer
Ferocity -crit damage
Boon duration -increases the duration of things like might, swiftness, protection, etc.
Healing power -increases the amount you heal for when using healing skills
Toughness -increases armor (the armor you listed is derived from toughness and the armor you’re wearing)

No, it’s not as much as WoW, but again, the game is much more about active defense.

Finally, I’m not sure what level you are or what skills you have, but here’s a list of basically everything in the game that involves stealth. There is a lot more than just doing leap finishers through smoke fields:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stealth
Your combo for stealth may feel clunky now, but as you get used to it, and how combos work in general, it’ll feel second nature.

Again, GW2 is much more action oriented. If that’s not what you want, it’s just not for you. I’d give it a bit more time so that you can at least start messing around with traits, but hey, even if you just quit right now, at least it was free.

EDIT: it seems other people have gone and done a better job of answering this post than me. Hope it helped anyway.

I’d be fine if they separated it as long as they added some extra functionality. It doesn’t even have to be combat oriented. Maybe if you’re wearing full ascended you get a bonus 50% magic find that ignores the cap. Maybe it could let you pay a gold to remove a rune without destroying said rune. I’m not saying those are necessarily great ideas, but give people something. Don’t just go pulling the rug out from under a large amount of the players.

3) Chronomancer -probably my favourite combination of mechanics and flavour.

4) Daredevil -assuming the animations get better, this spec is in a pretty good spot and the dodging all over with damage is awesome.

5) Tempest -I’m just not a huge fan of locking out attunements.

6) Berserker -I main warrior and I really wanted to like this, but I find that it’s far too awkward to utilize well. I really think there needs to be a way to just stay in berserker mode. It could tick adrenaline once you activate it and they could change the primal bursts to use up only 5. Obviously they’d need to balance the numbers around this, but I think it would be a lot more fun and fit the theme of the spec more than randomly not being angry after 15 seconds.

7) Dragonhunter -honestly, I haven’t tried it so I’m just going off of what others have said.
