For staff I’d say go with fire until you start gearing up then you can branch out more, for daggers maybe earth or water at first cause you gonna need more survivability.

What exactly would make weapon swap OP?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Regizer.1763

Regizer.1763

The only way I can see weapon swapping not being OP is if attunements cds are shared when you swap. For example if you use staff fire 5 then swap to d/d, fire 5 is still on CD. Also if you recently changed out of fire and swap weapons, that cd is still there.

Staff and attumement swapping?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Regizer.1763

Regizer.1763

Well it all depends on situation you’re in and build you’re running with, if it is an easy/short fight then staying in just fire attunement is fine. But if its more difficult/long fight then you definitely want to switch between attunements. For example I often use earth+fire or earth+water combinations attacks in dungeons. In PvP I use all attunements to constantly cc/heal/dps.

The kind of gear/build depends on skill level of ele and the weapon load out. The more comfortable you are playing the more dps build you want, if you are still learning then you want more of survival build. If your friend tends to die a lot, then she needs more survival stats, if she doesn’t die a lot then go all out dps. So I’d say noobie set up to learn more about class would be staff + survival gear or daggers + survival gear.

Staff good for sPVP?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Regizer.1763

Regizer.1763

Actually staff 1vs1 doesn’t seem so bad after I played a bit more sPvP. Air tree is pretty good for burst dps and fire tree is there to back you up when Air skills are on cooldown, so switch between fire and air as much as possible w/o losing efficiency.

When it comes to support and defensive play you will have to use all the attunments throughtout the fight. Since staff got long range you also want to constantly ‘fall back’/kite unless you’re in superior position.

Now when you you can’t gain distance from your opponent fire greatsword is very useful. I usually use it around 50-60% hp if I feel pressured (in combination with mist form if im getting beaten up) and if it doesn’t kill your opponent it could extend your life period.

Eles do have higher learning curve which I guess you could call complicated but to say it’s not rewarding is what I don’t agree with. You probably just haven’t learned enough about the class yet. Keep trying and playing, try out new builds / weapons, once you find the playstyle that works for you it will be a whole lot more enjoyable to play.

December 3 patch notes

in Elementalist

Posted by: Regizer.1763

Regizer.1763

Updated elementalist conjured weapons to appropriately apply attributes to all players that pick them up.

Dragon’s Tooth: This skill’s blast finisher now triggers at spell location, instead of character’s location.

Electrocute: This skill now has a maximum range and line of sight requirement.

Impale: Fixed an exploit with this skill’s interaction with Signet of Restoration.

Arcane Resurrection: This trait now applies five seconds of aura to allies affected by it.

Evasive Arcana: This trait now has a blast finisher while attuned to earth.

Elementalists will no longer get into a state where they aren’t attuned to any
element. This commonly results in the player’s skillbar being empty.

The more I play the more I keep going back to full DPS builds in WvW. My current build is 20/30/0/0/20 with berserker armor/weapon, valk trinkets, teleport/arcane power/mist form and switching to d/d if I’m solo or in a small group. It’s harder to play than other specs, but way more fun and rewarding imo. Doing 2-3k hits with meteor in safer builds just seems pointless in many situations.

If you have no problem playing then it’s not really a big deal. The question would be if playing with a mouse would allow you to play more efficiently

I only really die in WvWvW when I over extend during a charge and my cds arent up.

Because of long range staff elementalist can sacrifice some survivability and add more dps to the buid. Right now I’m running 25/0/25/10/10. Good damage/survivability with some support. I would like to see what others use for staff build so I have more to play around with.

Which then means it makes no sense because insignificant would mean 0% having 1 more damage than someone else is an increase that ppl will go for, thats how the gaming community rolls and youre nothing but a troll as once again your post fail to make any point and u still are proven wrong.
Also i liked the way u called me a little guy when u dont know my height stature however i can easelly see from your posts youre just a kid, be it mentally or physically.

Well, my cousin has never participated in raids anyway, because he fully understands he cannot contribute without using Vent. But the problem now is just simply being and existing in a guild that has required him to get on Vent. He just wanted to be a part of the community that are, from what I have seen (which may not be true across the board), increasingly shutting him out.

3 points or 12% is just a different way of saying the same thing

14% is more correct. I believe the exact number that was figured was something like 13.8% if memory serves, but that is just spling hairs.

The difference is, your +3 is just plain wrong Reggy my friend. The example item shown in the announcement itself had +5 power, +5 precion, and +3% magic find. It also had an empty slot to fill with an infusion, and we’ve found that infusions (fine grade) add another 5 to a stat. For a total of +15, and +3%.

After finding more examples than the initial one in the release, we’ve learned that the typical spread is +7, +5, +5, and the extra +5 from a fine infusion. For a total of +22… and that is per item.

+22… +3… hrm, yeah… how are those the same?

Not to ruin your math but does this consider empty upgrade slots for armors/weapons?

Your question is irrelevant in the way you ask it. But to answer the question I think you are trying to ask, yes, it accounts for the total difference in stats possible, not just the difference of an empty exotic vs empty ascended.

An upgraded Exotic ring with an exotic jewel will have 22 less stats than an Ascended ring with a fine infusion.

Ok so lets go from here. Assuming what you say is true then its a bigger stat upgrade. This stat upgrade is only necessary for 1 dungeon. Once again I still don’t see what all the complaints are about.

Because it infact isent for just that dungeon. Anyone wanting to be competitive in wvw has to have this gear or be at a disadvantage.

Wrong. You do not NEED this gear for WvWvW, if anything you WANT it. And in that way Arena Net has succeded.

Ok then once people have full sets let see you go into WvW without it. You will notice a massive power gap. You do NEED this gear. Your full of false info.

Oh I can 1 up that, how about by the time full set is out, I will go into WvWvW naked and record me playing. Hell I don’t even need to wait that long I can go and enjoy some naked WvW right now.

Ah ok. Though this mechanic only applies to this one dungeon so whats the problem?

The problem is that it should apply to zero dungeons.

Why? This is part of PvE content of a MMO, PvE players like to get gear upgrades. If you don’t like PvE why are you even running dungeons?

As a player that enjoys PvE. I do not like gear upgrades. I enjoy running dungeons because they offer interesting social experiences that provide quite intense action. This is the PvE Content of GuildWars 2 a supposedly different kind of MMO. If I wanted gear-progression based game I’d go to certain other MMOs out there, where you have 14+ tiers of gear available to you.

And whats stopping from enjoying PvE as it is? You do realize that at this point in time around 0 people have new tier of gear and yet they still are doing the new dungeon and are still praising it as one of better achievements of GW2 team.

You’re confusing two issues. The new tier of armor, and the new dungeon. I know, I know, there is a very real relationship between the two things…. but one is not the same thing as the other and you shouldn’t interchange them so cavalierly.

The outrage is not directed at all at the new dungeon. Some people like, some don’t, many simply love it. That’s fine and good. The issue people are getting all crazy over is the new tier of gear, the complete reversal of philosophy in the game, the power creep, the precedent.

GW2 now has a gear treadmill. Last week it really didn’t. The change has very dire implications for the future of the game, long reaching implications.

Isn’t it the first time they added new gear sets? You can’t really call this a treadmill…

Its the precedent and its opening the door for the future. As ArenaNet stated
“This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.” – Linsey Murdock

First level as in first set of items, like there are multiple exotic dungeon sets there will be multiple ascended gear sets

The new dungeon is great and I am definitely enjoying it.. I’d rather not have to constantly grind through it to remain on par with my fellow players. Not to mention when I go into World vs World. I’d like to take a break do other things and come back not feeling as though I am lagging behind and losing out on potential groups because I don’t have the gear requirement.

Yes, I’m with you on this one, I hate re-gearing. I just don’t think this is the same case as other MMO’s where gear grind is required.
