Chrono vs DHunter: Who gained the most?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Relshdan.6854

Relshdan.6854

overall, i love what mesmer got. i think that spec affects more playstyles/builds for mesmer than DH does for guardian.

that said, i mostly PvE….and in that regard, i’ll go DH everytime. and in wvw, i mostly roam w/ a trapper LB ranger….so again, DH will likely be something i try first over chrono (though chrono is more exciting).

objective guess: mesmer…..personally: guardian….pve power creep-wise/ meta-wise: guardian….dps potential is crazy.

better/more interesting/more elegant class design: chrono by a mile.

guess most people here want it to go the melee route.

Im more into mesmer or fiery greatsword style

melee w/ lots of cleave (and field triggering abilities) is what we really lack…and from a PvE perspective, the weapon set we need most. mesmer GS would be fun, but range isn’t a big problem.

outside of the 25% move spd, i can’t say i’m very excited from a pve perspective. we get alacrity, but no cooldown traits on wells or weapon, so its a wash (or worse). the wells trait is plain bad…and 1s of alacrity per shatter is laughable (1.33 if i waste two traits).

very disappointing, in that regard.

whats the origin of this "Shout" theory?

The ranger spirit points are irrelevant. They specifically said already they are reworking ranger spirits to be immobile but much more potent. It’s this specific change that made me wonder about another class getting spirits because it seemed like a random overhaul that wouldn’t seem real likely if it didn’t affect any HOT specializations.

Ironicay they’re reworking spirits in Rangers to be more like Ritual ones at a rather “convenient” time.

i’d be fine with spirits on necro as long as they were not “passive area denial” but instead an active “sacrifice”. they intend to do the passive thing to ranger spirits….

gain a weaker self buff on summon, then gain lifeforce and a very strong AoE ally buff/effect on sacrificing/banishing the spirit.

anything but spirits pls……….ranger spirits other than frost stink….guard spirit weapons stink (with rare shield exception). so aside from being weak and inferior utilities, these passive utilities are simply not fun to use…whether they’re cool thematically or not.

i want something active………shouts, or “incantations” if you want to imagine thme as something more thematically appropriate, that have specific and instant AoE effects on allies, but also use lifeforce to imbue a specific buff/effect to your person or greatsword skills

Dragons aren’t covertly hiding like witches. Witch hunting was hard because they looked like normal people and there were many of them. Dragons? They’re limited in number and pretty apparent. Plus, they told us we are big game hunters, not… covert investigator things.

Also, dragons aren’t evil. They just /are./ They absorb magic, wake, and retire. They’re more like forces of nature than evil.

And backline? Well, that’s how they framed the class, not me. It’s even in the release notes. :P

but corrupted dragon minions are the “witches”……dragons are the “devils”. you are comparing the wrong things. understand if u don’t like the name….but it does make sense. if they can come up with a better name that conveys the same thing, i’m all for it. but as it is, its fine.

I absolutely still agree the name and theme don’t work. At all.

Dragons aren’t like witches so all these comparisons to witch hunters are silly.

Dragonhunters are back line support, not hunters tracking prey.

We are all dragon hunters.

We get a themed bow gloves and terribly animated elite. That is the only tie in to dragons.

Both the dragon and the hunting part of the name could be easily changed or a new name could be found.

“Big game hunter” =/= “witch hunter” either so them back peddling and saying that was an inspiration is just… wrong. Big game hunter = men with high vis vests and rifles killing for sport.

but dragons in this game are like “devils” and “demons”….they corrupt living beings…………..so the name makes perfect sense and so does the analogy to witch hunters, inquisitions, etc.

…and if you stay entirely backline with a DH, you’ll likely be playing it wrong.

Going rifle and Pistol would have been a cool playing against type that is very in sync with the GW2 world.

Longbow is layering high fantasy on top of high fantasy.

Rifle and Pistol are like the least Guardian-like weapons available :/ Maybe play Warrior instead?

That’s the point, it’d be interesting to make a ‘not-guardianlike’ weapon fitting for a guardian. A longbow is dull and obvious and boring.

no…it really wouldn’t be interesting at all…just different for the sake of being different at the cost of expanding the class aesthetic/theme coherently.

very glad they went this route (although most expected it since HoT specialiozations were announced). longbow is the best choice for the needed long-range weapon set.

well, judging by the mesmer, it seems to be attempting to fix a weakness (mesmers used to be simply veil bots in wvw groups)…..so hopefully, necro elite specialization will fix it’s weakness in pve (group support).

but it doesn’t matter where the “build defining” trait lies, since you have to take one of each tier anyway, and you certainly aren’t going to take a trait line that lacks a vital trait to your build. its just important that the build defining traits are there.

That’s the inherent problem with the new system. No matter where it is, you’re forced to take the entire line whether you want it or not..

that’s only a problem if they fail at populating the lines with worthy/diverse traits in each tier. right now, i don’t think most lines are where they need to be (but some are)….but they potentially can be. the flaw is not in the system, its in some of the traits and their organization.

it seems to me the GM traits are now determining the general playstyle/ build type, and the adepts and majors are there for flavor. seems okay to me.

I see a lot of GM traits that look more like minor buffs and flavor to things that are just part of our builds and skills anyway. Other that are obvious must haves. And some that are simply a decision lesser evils you are forced to chose from to get something more valuable earlier in the line.

i agree and disagree….but it doesn’t matter where the “build defining” trait lies, since you have to take one of each tier anyway, and you certainly aren’t going to take a trait line that lacks a vital trait to your build. its just important that the build defining traits are there.

the current trait lines are by no means perfect, but the system can work in concept….they just need to make sure the actual traits are worthy, and the tiers they’re placed in allows for it to work (make sure playstyle-defining traits are not mutually exclusive by being put in the same tier….and that each lines can support/define multiple different builds..at least 2, but ideally 3) and create as many viable general builds per playstyle as possible.

I believe they’ve gone this route with the traits so it would be easier for them to balance PVP. With less overall build options in the game there is less they need to worry about balance wise. I honestly do not think any of this has to do with increasing “diversity” because that has ALWAYS been there. All that about diversity was just lip service.

Things won’t change. There will still be optimal builds for dungeons/fractals.

Things won’t change. There will still be meta builds for PVP.

Things won’t change. There will still be the best builds for WvW.

agree….but players will ALWAYS devise optimal builds….no trait system will change that. therewill always be pressure to run those builds.

if streamlining to make balance an easier task, means we get more frequent balance iteration….even better, and well worth the loss of being able to make quirky/crappy builds.

Maybe we should just limit it down to picking 3 options for our builds. Pre-determined, unalterable builds for power, condi, and tanky/support. One click and your traits are set. Quick and simple to balance. Just slap in some of the current meta builds, and call it good.

Looking at some of new traitlines, we’re not all that far from this. There are quite a few obvious only-choice traits for a build type. As someone above pointed out, hammer (and GS to a slightly lesser degree) guardians are all but forced into the zeal tree. Are we really going to ignore 25-30% more damage in a power/damage build?

there’s a middle ground between bad quirky builds and optimal meta builds, that i think this new system can still accommodate. i think most people look at meta builds, try them out, and then tweak them to fit their playing strengths or cover their skill weaknesses. it seems to me the GM traits are now determining the general playstyle/ build type, and the adepts and majors are there for flavor. seems okay to me.

only thing i don’t like is being locked into one trait in each tier (can’t use your master slot to spec a second adept trait, or use the GM slot for a 2nd master trait), though i haven’t studied the trait lines well enough to see if it will really matter.

Truly this game need some work, and an expansion is nice. Let’s just hope is a real expansion and not cashing up living story ep3 + skins because they didn’t sell that much in the gem store.

Don’t get your hopes up, this isn’t a “real expansion”. at best this is a filler expansion/emergency back up plan cause the ls experiment failed, the china launch didn’t go as great as it should and they do need to make money. the real bet here will be if their -next expansion- (hopefully 1.5 years after hot) will be worth while… this one here, is just feature pack + living story 3, with some added fluff that they’re making up right now, hence the limited info. they can’t present us with stuff they haven’t done yet, and they need the time to do ‘em. so, stalling with posts about hylec races, blog posts about the people who do the blogposts, recaps, recaps of the recaps, recaps of the blogposts talking about the people who write the blogposts.. etc etc. they’re buying time here and everyone can tell, that’s why the white knighting is so strong. they need to convince themselves that all is well…

i would tend to agree w/ this presumption.
it is quite clear this will not have the quantity of content we’d expect from a proper expansion…..and that they are holding back info about the meatier pve aspects of HoT (specializations, guild halls, “challenging group content”, etc), as they are still being developed. id’ also wager they will continue to hold back this info until very near release/open betas as these are the items players will debate/ find fault in.

anyway….i’m fine with their version of a pseudo-expansion, as long as it’s priced appropriately….but one will likely be disappointed if they are expecting a typical expansion and will be driving themselves crazy waiting for info on the meatier features of the expansion. best to just play the game (or another) and ignore the expansion for the time being.

Megaserver by language, make it happen!

Relshdan.6854

English is superior, most folk in europe know english, like it or not it’s the most common tongue. And not all of us who speak english are from the uk. There are other countries in europe, believe it or not. I don’t see any french, german or spanish person trying to speak norwegian, or bulgarian or any other of them other “lesser” languages. And those folk already did their bit and learned english. Now they have to learn spanish, and french and german cause god forbit the spaniards, the germans and the french learn anything other than their native languages. So it’s not MY language they have to learn, but A language that the rest of europe uses to communicate. Unless of course everyone not french, german or spanish is beneath them or something. In which case they should get their own server and not mingle with us peasants from the rest of europe.

That doesn’t make it ‘superior’ that just makes it more commonly used. Superior indicates it being better than, which it is not, just different. There is a vast difference between superior and more commonly used.

I sincerely dislike it when people who complain about and look down their nose at other languages and cultures as if they expect everyone else to speak the same as them just because theirs is the most popular and therefore ‘superior’.

Less popular languages are just as valid as English. It doesn’t take that much effort to google translate simple phrases. You’re part of a multi-lingual world, it’s important to be respectful of other peoples languages and it’s only sensible to approach another person by speaking their language rather than expecting them to speak yours. It just comes down to respect.

I think it’s discourteous to expect everyone to heel to your own language ‘just’ because it’s the most popular. Excuses like “Oh because they do x y z too” just falls short for me. Learn to get along, and that goes for all sides, it’s not that hard if people weren’t so stubborn and acted so superior.

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

If you want people to try to speak your language to you when they approach you, you should do the same in return to begin with, eye for an eye.

Guess I might be a minority with that opinion…. oh well, that’s a shame.

makes it a social justice issue where there was none….yuck. stick to giving out great mesmer advice.

So, is it worth rolling a Ranger?

no to shortbow in dungeons; yes to LB as opener vuln builder (then swap to Sw/x).

i think all classes are worth leveling to 80, because enjoyable playstyle doesn’t always equate to “most powerful/efficient”……..but if you only care about speed clearing dungeons, then yes, playing an “archer” ranger is not ideal, and thus “not worth it”.

as for longbow……i love it in open world /solo……given that w/ axe/warhorn and jaguar (skipping mobs)/jungle stalker, and ranger easily became my favorite open world class. everything is dead before it gets to you due to 1500 range, aoe cripple on barrage, and KB shot……if a mob does get to you, stealth shot away and repeat. LB 2 is an instant mob kill…autos are 2-3 shot kills. it’s a great single target weapon w/ tools to deal w/ groups of mobs

i prefer axe/x to s/x or GS as a second set……tags mobs well, builds up might very quickly in maps with concentrated mobs (a few seconds and you’re pushing 20 just w/ axe autos and a jungle stalker, which will last long enough to swap back to pop LB 2…useful in those occasions where a strong mob is surrounded by weaker adds)…. and allows me to stay at 900 range. offhand axe for damage/projectile block..offhand warhorn for mobility/blast finish my fire trap.

also…..its worth lvling a rnger just to play w/ a sw/dagger combo in wvw

The ridiculous imbalance between T7 mats

The requirement of 300 t5 cloth is needed for each bolt of Damask is the reason. Anet went far overboard with this t5 mat cost in comparison to the other t7 mat requirements, which call for far less. The rest only need 150 for leather, 100 for ore, and 150 for lumber.

Mtpelion.4562 did a good job in explaining why there is a difference in supply, as ore and lumber can be targeted for harvesting much easier. Due to GW2’s extremely large focus on RNG for drops, cloth and leather cannot be targeted for farming (just like most crafting mats can no longer be targeted for profitable farming anymore, and the strategy is simply “farm gold and buy your mats off the TP”).

To make up for this imbalance in supply, many people salvage cloth drops, even if they vendor everything else for coin. Although even this is not enough to bring the price of t5 cloth anywhere close to any other t5 material.

The demand side of the equation has no reason to be as imbalanced as it is. Honestly it seems like it was a math error that Anet just ran with, refusing to fix it as that would be admitting a mistake (unfortunately this bad behaviour is common for today’s Anet).

The result of this large miss match in supply and demand compared to other t5 mats, makes Light Ascended armour far more expensive than it’s Medium and Heavy counterparts (for no good reason at all). It is fine if certain parts of the crafting process have different costs, however the end products should not be so different in costs.

As for Carighan.6758 comment on backlash. Who kittening cares? Forum whiners whine about everything, they should be ignored if they are whining to protect math errors for whatever bizarre reasons they have.

agree word for word.
it’s BS that ascended light armor is so much more expensive. there is no reasonable justification for it.

but it is fun to read the TP players try to justify it.

reduce the amount from 100 to 50…and let that sit for a while. see if that works……you still need the silk to make the other armors….its still rng to acquire…..and thus it would still be monetarily valuable (just not insane).

the economy dev will not give, unless he also takes. he wants silk to remain expensive.

if he gives you a “cloth node”, he will reduce bag/cloth armor drop rates to compensate.

the only way you’d seen instanced content for more then 5 players, would be if it was a guild mission. i’m crossing my fingers, but certainly not holding my breath.

so expect to see more open-world “challenging group content”….be pleasantly surprised if you get more than that.

I feel the same about a summary of Season 2 (Who needs that when we can just go in an play season 2 again…if you pay attention you don’t need a recap of season 2..) and a devs bio…

Nothing “NEW” regarding the game, what they gave us was useless information just to stall yet again…i’m starting to get a bad feeling…and i’ve been like super excited for quite some time now… But the info is so small and far in between it makes you wonder

agree that this week’s “preview” was lame, but theres not much to wonder about, or left for them to preview. Anet doesn’t (or at least hasn’t during GW2 lifespan) surprise us with unannounced big-ticket features. you already know everything that will be done…just not to what extent….and they aren’t going to reveal the true extent before the expansion is released.

you will get 1 new class and 1 “specialization” per class (which will be the extent of any new skills/traits added) which is mostly on par with GW1 expansions

you’ll get a few new zones (likely far less than a typical expansion)

you’ll get a storymode (less than the base game, but likely more than a LS season).

one new pvp mode/map (though oddly, it seems to be something you can’t specifically choose to play) and a few more reward tracks

one new wvw map

guild halls (this is actually worth wondering about…could add a lot, or not much at all)

precursor crafting/ masteries (lvl 80 horizontal progression) – the masteries seem to be mostly a way to gate content/ slow down the vultures who finish everything in 2 weeks….but we’ll see. could be good, and should certainly take a while to do them all.

adventures (scored/leaderboard quests) – seems like a waste

“challenging group content” – the other thing very much worth wondering about….i’m hoping this is not ONLY open world, but also instanced “raid-like content”…and instanced guild mission “raids”/content tied to guild halls.

all they have left to preview with us is specializations, guild halls, and “challenging group content”….and they have a lot of time left until open betas/release.

take a break and play something else every once in a while…it works wonders. just back from a 4 month break (minus the occasional login to get the free LS episodes)…its fun again and i have new content to play. you forget how good/smooth the combat is and some of the other nice details of the game you get jaded to after a while of playing.

pretty sure i’m going to play this way from now on….a few months at a time with breaks of a few months. you feel less possessive/invested, and thus less frustrated.

can get up to the point of selecting a character.
after a long pause, i get to a load screen.
80% of the time, it dies there w/ an eventual errror …whether it’s peak or off hours…and a failure means i’m not getting on the rest of the day. if i actually get on, i have a 50% chance of being able to play normally…or i get disconnected the first time i use a waypoint. if i get disconnected, i can’t get on the rest of the day.

i’ve already tried the Port80 trick…..all that does is let me update game builds and actually use skills on the rare chance i get onto the server and am able to play (non-port80 means no usage of “F”, clicking, or any skills)

north american playing on a euro server since betas/launch….never problems like anything i’m facing now. took a break after during Dec 2014 until Feb 20015…in that time i switched from a almost 10yr old dsl to a new ATT Uverse internet which performs much better in ever other application/game i have.

help. i want to play again, but its impossible.

The designer behind the Vinewraith was Lisa Davis. You might remember her from such releases such as the Marionette, and Super Adventure Box! (But really, there isn’t just one boss designer on the Living World as all the designers contribute to the encounters in both design, implementation, and feedback. They all deserve cookies.)

I guess that is why Vine Wrath has a Marionette feel to it. lanes, lane debuff lockout, limited fails.

What is sad is that it feels like Vine Wrath will be a ghost town in the next week or so because everyone will have gotten their coats and stuff. Rewards for certain bosses like these have to be much better than they are now.

the obvious/but permanent flaw that GW2 has. farming easy things is always greatly more monetarily efficient than doing challenging “chest events”.

Downloading at 0-75 KB/sec - What can I do?

Yeah I followed that and now I am Downloading at 3MB/sec

Anet…. this confirms the issue is on your end.

Anyone with my issue just add this to your GW2 shortcut

-assetsrv 62.154.232.120

Right click your shortcut, goto properties

Where it says “Target” add -assetsrv 62.154.232.120

Your target should now be similar to:

C:\Location of GW folder\GW2\Gw2.exe -assetsrv 62.154.232.120

Launch the shortcut and you are good to go.

Edit: I have been waiting 2 days…. and now my launcher is finished and it only took 2 mins. Thanks for helping me. Anet take notice. This is affecting people.

THIS WORKS. at least for me. mad love to whoever figured this out.

nd thanks again Anet for sucking.

EDIT….it only gets you past the initial problem 9not even getting to the download phase. you still get stuck with the never-ending 1 file left/still downloading after 3+ GB downloaded.
