now……incorporating a cape into into the design of an outfit skin would work perfectly, as you can’t mix and match and create odd clipping issues.

that time happened long ago. almost every decision is based on PvP, and its almost always to the detriment of PvE/WvW,
they don’t separate them, because it would take more work than they want to do. the excuse that “its difficult for players to grasp that a skill acts differently in different modes” is simply an excuse.
they barely want to balance the current skills (twice a year)….no chance they would want to create twice the work.

No, standards aren’t really applicable to the discussion. Viability doesn’t immediately address situational concerns or context. Any build is viable sans attachment of roaming, PvP or dungeon criteria.

good thing a mesmer-ranger P-ing match between whose skill bug is worse, takes up more than half of the thread.
the thread in the bug forum has barely any posts….its kinda remarkable, as this nerf-fix destroys the only reason to take a ranger to 5-man instance (spotter is nice, but the party-wide +7% dmg from FS was the main reason). surprised there is less uproar.
guess not as sexy as kittening about torment on mesmer scepter AA (which math proved was “meh” at best).

it’s theoretically the perfect model for me……pay once, and then situation-ally via gem store, or gem to gold in a pinch when i really need it. i have a career/family, so I go through periods i can’t play much. I really hate games w/ pay sub-models…and would never be a customer of one.
but must admit i’m starting to lean toward the GW1 model of simply paying for the new content (expansions)….so that you actually get that level of content.
comparing the new content released over 2 yrs in GW2 to GW1….the lack of real content/features that would have existed in the expansion pack model is staggering…..
Luckily, GW2 started with so much more variety of content…and arguably the most fluid combat system in any MMO, that it hasn’t really bothered me until now.
love dry top….but add some new dungeons…new utility skills…new weapon sets…maybe a new race. PvP needs more than one game mode……WvW really needs some love.
not sure these things can happen in this current model.

A lot of people use viable when what they mean to say is not optimal. And to their mindset, if it’s not optimal its’ not viable.
It’s a definite misuse of the word.
this……but there are varying degrees of sub-optimal. being on the high-end of “sub-optimal” is fine for anything but speed clear groups. being on the mid-range of “sub-optimal” might work for Pugs, depending on the class. being on the low end of “sub-optimal” should be reserved for playing solo (or w/ friends who don;t mind), as playing this in a 5-man instance hurts your party, and doing this in a zerg mainly hurts you.

They were not promised. Intended, subjected to change perhaps. But never, once promised. It is statements like this which caused the devs to be cautous in their communications to us when words were incorrectly interpreted. Lets not reurn to those days..

agree…but it doesn’t change the fact that “highly desired features/content” (like precursor craft/hunts, new game modes in PvP, or guild system expansion/ improvement) have taken a backseat to “who gives a kitten”, “this is horrible”, and “thats nice, but not really needed” features, for well over a year.
which would be fine, if Anet didn’t introduce features/non-LS content/bug-fixes/balance passes/etc. at such a GLACIAL pace.

TP overhaul is awesome and long overdue. they went above what i expected here, so kudos to Anet.
Like:
1)standard PvP models and pvp exlusive armor (i don’t pvp, but these are pretty cool).
2)commander tag update – could/should have been more comprehensive as there were a ton of gret ideas in that CDI, but account-bound and new colors are a start (but likely all we’ll ever get).

1)all the optimization/performance improvements to combat and megaserver

Dislike:
profession-tailored loot (if its hardly noticeable as they claim, why bother? it will be noticeable) salvage mats are not equal….those who will get more cloth (wool, linen, silk) are the winners; the rest lose.

its not.
they are gambling that making the game stronger for the necessary new players to keep the game going, is more important now than trying to retain vets or bring back old players.
to be fair….only real content, not QoL changes, are able to bring old players back. they seem to be in no hurry to add things like precsursor hunts, new races, skills, traits, etc.

…. I’ve not been thrilled by anything announced.
They do their job, it’s a long-term endeavour, but making a big deal out of this… That’s why I’m disappointed: I was told my experience will be better, and as of now, I’m not sure it’ll change anything.
i think the main problem is the hyperbolic language and prolonged pacing of these “preview blogs”.
you can’t use the word “galore” to represent 2 or 3 things. you really shouldn’t use the term “exciting” to describe an attempt to give megaserver the functionality it was supposed to have when it luanched.
and why space this out over 3 weeks? its absurd to have an entire blog devoted to the cammander tag changes, and then a separate one about a new Wvw ability line and trap, and then yet another separate blog about a wvw tournament….combine them into one.
this feature patch wouldn’t look or “seem” nearly as underwhelming if the info was given over the course of a single week in early august (that way, any reactions to some of these could be responded to).
its as much a perception thing as it is a reality thing.

“We’ll release exciting things for veteran players”… I’ve been defending ANet for months now, so playing the “you’ll swoon before our new features” and releasing something quite basic kinda hurts my feelings.
This isn’t a minor feature it’s a major rework. And you know, a lot of people have asked for this. No one said you’d swoon before our new features anyway, but this is not something quite basic. It’s integral to the game, to crafters, to farmers, and to people just needing to buy stuff.
agree…….while i find it to be an underwhelming/disappointing feature patch based on my interests and compared to the last feature patch….this rework is much appreciated and has been asked for since the game launched (the new search functionality goes even beyond what most were asking for).

don’t know (or care) if it’s an “old cheese build”….as i’m new to ranger in WVW and would like an effective build to complete world mapping.
seems like a well constructed roaming build, and most importantly, it looks really fun/active to play.

What scares me is how the tweaked clone-deaths will actually work.
Since they can be dodged/blinded/ect, does that mean they count as a hit?
Does that mean they’ll proc Retaliation on us? Or counter-attack effects?
…Will clone deaths break stealth!?
you just named the first few guaranteed bugs that will come from Sept 9 patch.
the amount of “workling as intended…for 6 months” bugs in relation to these traits will be staggering.
…and that is why these changes are a bad idea……..it involves anet tweaking clone traits/performance…and that has never worked in the past
which is unfortunate, because its actually fair that clone death effects can be evaded/ blocked/ blinded

Can still 3 – 5 man Fire Shaman, Ogre, not to mention Dredge, oh and the new Mordrem champion, and more
would even take 50-man world bosses, at least then i’d consistantly get the champ boxes (like pre-megaserver)

if it works as OP says…the biggest problem would be if they lock you out of PS until level 10+………since PS missions are excellent ways to level and get lvl-appropriate gear for new characters.
if you can do the PS during the first lvls, the change doesn’t matter much to most….it just becomes a pacing change.
smart thing to do, whould be to have the PS missions run as they do now until about level 35-40 (when you choose an order)….then create the gaps, because its around that time that you end up doing more farming./world events/ etc. that would pull you out of the PS story groove

they don’t want you to be able to change equipment while in combat (i’d assume to give some sense of gravity to your choices)…..harvesting equipment falling under the same rules is just a matter of not spending resources to fix a minor inconvenience that rarely ever happens.

Marionette was the best open world group content this game has ever seen. It had the perfect balance of zerg content in the lanes to create a sense of scale while also highlighting individual contribution in the mini-arenas. Compare Marionette to season 2 group content (dry top) and it’s just… ugh. Even most of the other stuff in season 1 (escape from la, battle for la, tower of nightmares, even boss blitz postseason) was way more engaging than dry top.
agree that group events in Dry Top are more in line with standard stuff from the original zones……which makes sense, but is sub-par compared to the later group events of LS1.
that said….i kinda like the focus on semi-challenging solo content LS2 has brought so far. it fills the void between soloing dungeons and regular solo open world play….and greatly improves on the PS missions. It seems this season will be short…so maybe the next goes back top more group-event oriented storytelling.

and even though there is no sign of this LS1 conent coming back anytime soon……..planting the seeds about the content we did love, early, is not a bad idea.
this event was met with the usual MASS WHINING about difficulty and having to rely on others etc etc etc….so an overwhelmingly pro-marionette thread like this is a good thing.

best event in GW2 ever………..it has to come back….some how…some way (guild event). no event felt as rewarding as this when you won. Not surprisingly, that Josh Foreman dev who did SAB had something to do with it…
perfect large scale event……….starts as a non-zerg medium group stage (5 groups of 20-25) to a party-play stage (5 parties of 4-5 players). but everything came down to the 5 party stage…kill your boss with it’s mechanic, and you felt elated….but then nervous that the next group might fail…………….and nothing felt better than being the last lane up, with no more chances, and you pull it out.

decent changes……really happy with RF changes….MI, Glacial heart, spirit bow/sword might be fun to play with.

Update: apparently, in the Chinese version of the game, you don’t get a key until the Level 20 story.
key farm is dead. i don’t care…never did it.
as long as the same number of keys are available as PS rewards (but at higher levels), i’m fine with that.
BL tickets skins go up a little in value….to properly reflect the cost it would take to get them buying keys off the gem store (which hopefully becomes a guaranteed scrap every chest).

I think with the defeat of Zhaitan, it would be nice to see the risen begin to thin out and Orr begin to heal a bit. That would really make the game feel like it’s living IMO.
and then we lose the only profitable open world zones, that don’t require grinding.
…unless you limit it to straights of devastation/malchor.

if the “effect” is stronger the lower your level is….then tell us! if you don’t, we can only assume the worst (that this is an ineffectual change and thus a complete waste of time)

their rarity (and those of most halloween ‘12 skins) is a good thing (so little is actually rare)…..but wouldn’t be surprised to see them back as BL chest/ticket skins in future Mad King festivals.
