Top 3 Changes Needed for Season 6

in PvP

Posted by: Rhiannon.1726

Rhiannon.1726

1.) More pre-qualifying matches to determine initial placement.

I’m not sure about it, but that’s maybe because I don’t really understand how the placement matches work.

What’s the difference between:

- playing 10 matches and getting 1200 MMR shown and than playing 15 more matches and your MMR is at 1300.
- playing 25 matches until you see your MMR at 1300

2.) Make Top Stats meaningful.

Individual skill rating is just not possible in a 5vs5 match. Especially not with top stats.

Some examples:
If you are a guard and only fight in mid, you may get top stats for healing, protection, dps, rezzes, kills, capping, defending, re capping…, but the real cause for the victory is the thief who constantly caps/de-caps empty close and far points, or the warrior who cc’ed the tempest.

Is a tempest good, just because he got top stats for healing/protection? It’s the job of a tempest and not a measurement of skill.

In one match the tempest can just stand in mid and press random auras to win and gets top stats, and in another match the same tempest is always focused by a necro (condies) and a warrior (cc) and therefore nearly useless, and a guard gets the top stats for healing/protection.
In both cases it’s a victory and the tempest gets rewarded for the easy match, where hardly any skill was needed, but not for the difficult one, where the tempest needed all his skill to stay alive?

If someone just focuses to get top stats and ignores everything else and therefore the team loses, the one who is the reason for the loss would be rewarded for getting the most top stats.

3.) Do away with gear/gold farmers.

I agree that it’s bad to have poeple in pvp just farming the rewards.

On the other side you need a way to attract new players in pvp and keep them playing. When unexperienced people start playing and lose a lot they’ll get frustrated without rewards. If they get at least a bit, they may stay and try to improve.

So I think it’s really difficult to find the right balance.

Duo Q MUST GO for Season 6

in PvP

Rhiannon.1726

DuoQ accounts for 60% of the fun I have playing PvP, since I can discuss and coordinate with a friend while playing. Forcing me to go solo on ranked? Wouldn’t even bother playing, game’s way too frustrating to be enjoyed anymore, with all the powercreep and the immature/toxic players lurking around.

I’m in the same boat.

Playing solo in pvp somehow causes too much stress for me. I’d never set a foot in pvp again without DuoQ.

At least in lower divisions I don’t really see a huge impact of duos. We’ve won as much as we lost against 2 duos. We also have lost matches with 1-2 duos on our side and 5 solo players on the other team.

I also think it’s exactly 72h.

I played on Tuesday evening and didn’t have time to play pvp until Friday evening. I had -8 decay.

So it all depends on the time the season ends. The end of the season may depend on the time the patch goes live.

Losing games with decay overly punishing

Rhiannon.1726

@ Rodzynald:
That is from an older post, where someone from anet confirmed it:

I’ll try investigating this more, but from what I undestand your decayed rating doesn’t determine who you are matched against. So in theory, when you came back you were still playing against gold players. Your decayed rating only affects your leader board position and nothing else.

This is correct. Decay does not affect your matchmaking. With our current decay settings, you can work off your decay in 7 games.

Losing games with decay overly punishing

in PvP

Rhiannon.1726

The decay system is absolutely terrible. I was in gold t2-t3 having no difficulties with climbing to plat except the lack of time. 65% win rate. Then I got tired of grind and took a brake. With 700 decay I was placed in low bronze.

How do I ever supposed to play with those ppl?!! They don’t know how to rotate, they don’t know how to stomp. Enemies are bad as well, so I easy keep point 1vs2 but that does not help, they still losing rest two points. What the hell I am supposed to do to win such games? And on top of that I was losing 30+ rank points for every lost game.

What is the point of that kitten? Please explain me, cos I really don’t understand. Why this “deviation” ever exists? Do you really think someone can forget how to pvp after one week off or what? What is the logic of moving players to low tiers? If you are concerned about not playing ppl stacking in the ladder then just make decay impact on your ladder rank, not on your matchmaking!

You are talking about two different things:
Rating deviation and the decay system.

The rating deviation after a break will be addressed (see the post from Evan Lesh).
(Btw it happens both ways; you either gain or lose a lot.)

The decay system doesn’t hurt anyone. You just drop in the leaderboard (which is only important for the top 250), but your MMR stays the same!
You can completely ignore the -700 decay.

We need a surrender vote

With a “surrender vote” people would tend to give up with just 100 points behind instead of trying to turn the match.

Especially at Foefire you could be 200 points behind and still win.

Advice for failure?

Rhiannon.1726

When you are new to pvp and start to play ranked you start with 1200 MMR. That’s the average.
The system also doesn’t know you yet and so your +/- rating is quite high. You had more losses than wins (which isn’t unusual as you just started with pvp) and so you dropped down.
If you start to get ca. +/- 10-15 rating for a match your division should have stabilized. That doesn’t mean you have to stay there, you could have a good day and rise or a bad one and drop. I’ve been in silver t2 and gold t1, but mostly I’m around 1300.

An advice concerning your team members:
As soon as someone starts to write “noobs”, “wtf are you doing”… just block him, even if it isn’t directed at you. It makes pvp more fun.

Sorry Pro Leaguers, ELO hell still exists.

Entering the season late, I was placed low gold initial match ups were a challenge, no biggie. I made my way up solo q to mid/high platinum. After this week I’m now low silver.

I know how to rotate, I win my 1v1’s and hold out during 1vX/disengage when appropriate. My teammates on the other hand are seemingly straight outta Best Buy with their CD keys. Yeah I make mistakes too and I’m well aware of them, but man, oh man.

I’m no pro leaguer who can carry his team on his shoulders and I’d be kitten ed if I said this was frustrating, because its not. I just can’t care anymore, though I care just enough to post here venting my frustrations. I can’t care about this matchmaking system that for some ungodly reason pairs me with people who do something reminiscent of drinking bleach in the corner of the room.

This season has mentally drained me, and it’s just not fun anymore.

This! I’m bronze now, didn’t play a weekend and got like 100 points decay (was stuck in silver hell before), i see people in the top 10 with the same matches played since i started, and still top 10, they didn’t even made it 1 match per day.
So yeah, gj arena net!
I planned initially to finish my legendary, was pretty close, in the last season i finished 3 of the metas when i was on vacations, and a bit after, but then work got in the way. But as i started playing i realized, i had better things to do with my time. I mean, if i’m equal skill to people (which is what apparently my MMR means i am) that will go 3 man camp on close, who constantly need to 3v1 to win (when they win), who quit after they die in the first 5 seconds of a fight, then i sure as hell don’t belong in PvP.

Like you said, i’m no pro, far from it, but at least i know the bare minimum, sadly i seem to get consistently placed into teams with too many individuals that don’t.

And now this precious gem here; didn’t play 4 days, lose 10% of my total points. That’s reasonable, i’ve been getting like 15-20 points on WINS and now i lose 100, i’d say that’s the ideal ammount…

You can ignore the 100 points decay. They don’t change your MMR, just your positioning on the leaderboard.

No Title for Just Making it to Legendary?

in PvP

Posted by: Rhiannon.1726

Rhiannon.1726

For all of the seasons last year there were titles just for making it to the Legendary division. Now there are titles for being in the top 250 players. Are there only going to be the titles for the top 250 players or will people that just make it to legendary, but not in the 250 get a title too? Have we heard a direct comment from a Dev? I was ok enough to make it to legardy each of the prioer seasons, but top 250 seems much harder and I’m not sure if I should even try. I haven’t played that much this season, will there only be 250 legendary ranked players when this is all over?

“Legendary” starts at a MMR of 1950.
In EU the player on rank 250 has a MMR of 1854. Only the top 56 players in EU are “legendary” with 1950+ MMR.

I don’t think you can compare “legendary” from previous seasons (which you could just grind with a bit of talent) to the current MMR based “legendary”.

i don’t get much time each week to play so i can’t do ranked anymore now that they’ve added the “decay” mechanic, if you stop playing you lose progress,
that doesn’t seem like a mechanic that fits in GW2, thats some grindy WoW nonsense.

but yeah, balance is better

Why can’t you play ranked?
The “decay” machanic doesn’t hurt you, it just changes your ladder position, not you actual MMR.

As soon as you play some matches, the “decay” will be gone and your MMR determines again you ladder position.

No progress is lost by decay!

Issues currently with MMR based tier

Rhiannon.1726

How do you measure individual skill? “Skill” in pvp isn’t determined by top stats.

I’ll try to make examples:

Besides you there is another necro in your team. You are more skilled.
The enemy prefers to focus you the whole time (because they know you are more dangerous, you are a Charr, or you have pink hair…).
You have to kite a lot and maybe you die several times and the other necro has it way more easier to attack the others and gets credit for dps and kills, because he is mostly ignored.
So you are skilled but because of bad luck the other necro gets rewarded?

There is a tempest and a druid in one team. The druid is more skilled. The druid is nearly always defending home against a thief and the tempest is in mid where the most fights are. The druid doesn’t heal anyone else, doesn’t kill anyone, doesn’t do the most damage and doesn’t capture any points (only close once).
The tempest is constantly healing others (by randomly spamming auras…), captures mid more than once and takes part in several kills/rezzes.
So how does the system know who is better?

Matchmaking Question

Rhiannon.1726

I’m not denying your oberservations about the difference of the MMR in the opposing teams, but I don’t think that has a huge impact.

After my placement matches (6 won, 4 lost), I was rated with 1300. I’ve played 94 matches so far and my MMR varied between 1230 and 1360 (currently after some losses it stands at 1268).

I don’t think my own skill changed just because my MMR changed for ca. 130 points.

Rhiannon.1726

I’m confused, you wrote “The system that decides how much rating people lose or win: absolutly horrible in my opinion”:

Why is that a problem now? The system is working like in previous seasons with Glicko2. The only difference is that you now see it.
You always won/lost MMR depending on the MMR of you opponents. You just didn’t see it!

It seems you are confusing the pips/divisions (amber-legendary) from previous seasons with MMR divisions. Your are not supposed to rise to legendary if you are not good enough! You can only reach “legendary” MMR if you can compete with the best 50 players.

You also wrote “Throwing all players into one pot: absolutly terrible”:
There was a soft MMR reset, which threw a bigger pool of players together at the beginning. The match making still tries to match players with equally MMR against each other. So I don’t know where you got the idea that all where thrown into one pot.

@Sirbeaumerdier.3740
I’m confused. My post isn’t directed at you nor at anyone else specifically. I just wrote generally about my feeling about the topic.

But to answer your point about the legendary armor:
You have currently two ways to get a legendary back piece → fractals and pvp.
You have currently only one way to get a legendary armor (at least when Anet finishes it). I’d be more than happy if we would get another legendary armor via pvp, wvw, fractals or something else entirely.

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Rhiannon.1726

Rhiannon.1726

If you don’t like raids just don’t do them. I don’t like Arah, so I don’t do it.

When you don’t like them the only reasons to do them anyway are the legendary armor and the story:
→ You can experience the story without killing the bosses
→ You can’t get The Ascension when you don’t pvp
→ You can’t get the fractal backpack or fractal weapons when you don’t do fractals
→ You can’t get the legendary armor when you don’t raid

As far as I know most games handle special skins/gear like that → do x to get y.
So I don’t see a problem there. Of course it would be absolutely ok if we get another legendary armor through pvp, fractals, wvw…, but currently we don’t even have one finished.

When you like raids what stops you doing them?
Time? Afraid of pugs? Other reasons?

Time:
To kill all bosses you need time. You also need time (and skill) if you want to reach “Legendary” in a pvp league. If you don’t have much time just don’t expect to achieve the same like people with much more time. As you don’t aim for “Legendary” in pvp just don’t aim to kill Matthias or Xera right away when you don’t have the time to play often.

Afraid of pugs?
I’m tired of reading posts about “elitist” raiders. I just raid casually with guildies or pugs and so far I haven’t met these so called “elitists” and I’m definitely not one myself.
I’m sure they exist, but you can avoid them (or at least most of them), if you don’t join “spam 150+ LIs, KP, 1 fail=kick” groups.
I watched the lfg on the weekend and there are lots of training runs for beginners and groups that ask for 1-50 LIs. Hardly any group asks to ping gear.

Recently I joined an “escort training” group as I was in the mood of helping others. The group had experienced and inexperienced people and “first timers”. McLeod was dead ca. 30 min after joining them. The atmosphere in ts was awesome. Everyone was happy, especially the “first timers” who killed their first raid boss. I still enjoy the feeling of the “first kill”, even if it’s not my first kill → I’m just happy for the others .

If you don’t want to pug you can join a raid training guild. I’m sure there are nice and helpful people in such guilds.

Other reasons?
I can’t think of anything else.

In comparison to the horrible grind and the boring bunker meta of S1, S2 was way better for me and my sister (tempest and condi/shout reaper).

In S1 we were 7 pips away from diamond and we played a lot during the Christmas holidays. It took us ages to even reach ruby with the 50/50 win chance. Especially in the end it felt like a chore and we always hoped to end the day with a pip more.
But we also had some nice surprising matches: We lost by ca. 10 points and won 3 pips. Our team had rubies and diamonds against a full premade 4 legendary and 1 amber.

In S2 we easily reached diamond. We didn’t really like the too easy matches on our way to ruby, but with sometimes winning 10 in a row, it didn’t take us long. In ruby the matches became more balanced (but still with a ca. 70% win rate) and in diamond we had a ca. 50% win rate.
Most matches in diamond were quite fun.
So for us S2 was working as intended.

It was really interesting and surprising for us (with just pvp rank 63) to see the huge difference of the skill level in S2. You see better and worse people in unranked (and S1) too, but due to the MM there the difference isn’t that big:

- We met enemies who played godlike in comparison to us and killed us in seconds (loosing 10 vs. 500 hurts).

- I played druid for some matches in amber (for the achievement) without having any experience, so I usually went to close (and killing beast on Niflhel) and hoped to not get involved into to many fights. Mostly my worries were unnecessary: Some who were running towards me, arrived with hardly any hp left (I just used staff 1, 2 and Bristleback) → no dodges, blocks,… some even forgot to use the heal skill.

- There were enemies who died to my healbot tempest.

- My sister jumps into a cap point with 3 enemies to delay capping (I thought “omg what are you doing?”), some very long seconds later two of them were in downstate until she finally went down.

→ I don’t think it’s good when people get frustrated because they are stuck below ruby (especially when the matches are blowouts), but on the other side after what I’ve seen in S2 I also understand why some are in legendary and some have trouble reaching ruby.

PS: Maybe I’m a bit biased because in S2 I really enjoyed playing the “healbot”, while in S1 I still missed my cele d/d ele that I played pre HoT.

Won 500-412, lost a pip. Great design.

So far I didn’t have any reasons to complain, as I still have fun in pvp, but this evening I queued with my sister and we won the match 500 vs. 277.

We had 2 duos in our team and 1 solo (all emerald) vs. a full premade (4 emerald and 1 amber). We didn’t lose a pip and didn’t get one either.

How much higher should we have won the match to earn a pip?

PS: I think I wouldn’t really have noticed this, but with this pip, we would have reached the next tier.

"DragonHunter" name feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rhiannon.1726

This is my opinion about some of the names which were mentioned in this thread:

Crusader (Latin “crux” → “cross”): The Crusaders killed thousands of innocent people in the name of god.

Templar: The Templars guarded the temple of Jerusalem.

→ Both words are historical/religious. They don’t describe someone who fights for justice and protects the people. The Crusaders and Templars were cruel people who fought for power and domination because “god wills it”.

Seeker: What do they seek?

Keeper: How does that fit to this specialization?

Sentinel, Warder (and Keeper would fit here, too): My dictionary gives me the same translation like guardian (→ Wächter). So these are just different words for the same thing → a person who guards something.

Vanguard: I don’t see how that fits to a range/backline specialization.

Zealot: That would maybe fit to a frontline warrior, but not to someone with longbow and traps.

Arbiter: My dictionary says it means “referee” or “mediator”. Why do you want to call someone who is hunting “referee”?

Valkyrie: Women in the Nordic mythology.

Paragon: The word would fit to the Guard itself, but not to a “Hunter” with traps.

Words with “light”: Like “Paragon” the theme with “light” fits to the Guard itself. So why call the specialization like the main theme of the Guard? (I hope you understand what I mean)

Words which have something to do with “justice” or “protection”: Like “light” it’s also part of the main theme of the Guardian. I don’t see any connection to the specialization.

Words with “angel”: Too “religious”.

Justiciar, Seraph or other words which are/were used as ranks (or for a group of people) in GW or GW2: That would just be weird.

It seems that some of you just search for English words which sound “cool”, without really knowing (or caring for) their meaning.

The name Dragonhunter is not perfect (because everyone wants to kill dragons) but at least it fits better than the other names in this thread.

The Guardian protects the people from evil with aegis, blinds…
The Dragonhunter protects the people by going out into the wild to hunt down the greatest evil of Tyria.

Fractals for someone who seldom did them

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Rhiannon.1726

Rhiannon.1726

I’ve never thought, that I’ll ever do fractals, but because of Mawdrey I decided to try it.

I’ve read some guides to know the basic mechanics, than I watched the lfg tool for quite a long time until I got the courage to join a “lvl 1, first time” group. Instead of having a bad run, I got really lucky: one guy explained what to do and everyone listened (at least 3 of us were “first timers”). It was a surprisingly smooth run.

My experience:
If you join “lvl 1, daily” groups, they expect that you know what to do. So you should avoid those (at least at the beginning).

If you join “everyone welcome” groups, you’ll get mostly relaxed people, who don’t mind when someone makes a mistake. But bring some patience, such runs could take a bit longer than usual. I once had a 2 hour run -> we had a lot of trouble with the Thaumanova fractal as nobody did this one before. But at least the people were quite nice.

I’ve made the best experience with “lvl 4-8” groups:
Most know at least the basics, and I never got “elitists”. I’ve met a lot of helpful people who explained the fights. Now I’ve enough experience to do the explaining part myself.

Due to Mawdrey “forcing” me to do fractals, I’ve tried it and against all my expectations I really enjoy doing fractals from time to time. Now I’m level 10 (I don’t plan to run higher level fractals), got Mawdrey and still run fractals once a week.

I think, it’s nearly impossible to do Triple Trouble without ts. So if you want a successful worm kill, you need about 100-150 people in ts.

To get on a map with an organized worm kill attempt, you should join one of the following groups (I copied the links from another thread):

NA
1. http://ttsgamers.com/
2. http://attuned.enjin.com/

EU
1. http://psdh.eu/
2. http://www.reddit.com/r/txs
3. http://gw2community.com (3 English runs/day often even 2 maps per run!)
4. http://gw2community.com/calendar/event/7-wurm-run-of-the-german-wurmslayer-community-wums/ (German)
5. http://www.gw2community.de/ (Usually 1 German run/day)
6. http://www.gw2play.de (Few runs per month/German)

I think there are probably more groups/guilds who organize worm kills, e.g. from the French and Spanish communities.

[Suggestion] The Right Time for Mounts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rhiannon.1726

Rhiannon.1726

My (somtimes funny) thoughts about „mounts“

You would need different mounts for Asura, Humans/Sylvari, Norn, Charr.

Imagine…
- the huge, bulky mounts you would need for Norn and Charr (→ the cities filled with animals that are as big as Dolyaks? Urgh).
- a huge, bulky mount running past/over you (especially when you are a little Asura).
- a huge, bulky mount that runs fast without looking ridiculous (T-Rex?).
- 50 people, who are waiting for a world boss and all are sitting on a mount.
- a zerg with 50+ people (Charr and Norn) in wvw → are the towers/keeps insured against damage from earthquakes?

Some more thoughts concerning Charr, Asura and Sylvari…
- I think a Charr feels more comfortable to run on all fours, than using a mount.
- You (as a Charr) have to find an animal which would accept a furry beast with fangs on its back. Try to get on it with your big claws/talons without hurting it and than try to find a comfortable position for your tail (→ maybe you could use the tail as a whip?).
- Imagine a Charr on a mount like their motorcycles (which would make sense). I think they would look horrible, if too much of them are driving through the beautiful landscape. Imagine them driving through Queensdale or Caledon. Urgh.

- Imagine an Asura, who would trust his/her live to a creature with inferior intelligence. They already have golems (which are slow), so there is no need for more robots, which can be used as mounts. If they want to travel fast, they’ll use portals and waypoints.

- The nature loving Sylvari using other living creatures as mounts? That’s a bit weird.

Sorry, but I just can’t imagine how mounts could be a part of Tyria.

Time to remove servers -> REAL "Guild" Wars

in WvW

Rhiannon.1726

I see some problems with such a system, especially regarding EU.
In EU nearly all guild raids are in a short prime time. What about the other 20 hours of the day with hardly any guild around? It will only be PuGs.

How will you organise ts?
Outside prime time, without ts and guilds this will only encourage zerging as most will then just follow the tag.

What about the big changes in population in EU? You have full maps in prime time on many servers, so you’ll need many maps/overflows/districts…Then at 10 or 11pm most guilds in EU will leave. You have now many empty maps, often without commanders.
What then? Put the maps together? How can this be solved?

What about the different languages in EU?

And regarding PuGs/mercenaries who can join alliances: it would be difficult as most guilds are on their own ts and don’t want non guild members to join their raid.
Sure you could join a guild, but some just don’t want it or don’t play regularly,
Some may want to play more often than the guild is raiding. Some maybe just can’t play during prime time and will have a hard time finding a guild.

What if two big guilds on the same alliance stop playing? Then you don’t have balanced alliances anymore.
What if a commander with 50 people tags off and with him most of the players leave as well? How will you fill the gap?
What if one allliance has all the Spanish players who have a later prime time? Still no balance.
What if one side has only a PuG zerg with 50 People, the other side has two hard-core guilds with 25 players and the third side has only guild groups of 10 players and roamers? Still no balance and no side will really have fun.
I think alliances will still have 50 running over 10, 10 running over one, as you won’t get equal sized groups, even if you have the same amount of people on each side.

These are just a few thoughts which came to my mind.

I think really balanced matches are very hard to get.

Just dinged 80, best way to exotic?

1) About wvw:
If you see the blue commander tag, you can follow it. In general this is a public raid/train,
If you meet a group/zerg without commander tag and everyone has the same guild tag, than it is a guild raid. Most guilds don’t like it, if other people follow them.
If you meet a group/zerg without commander tag and different guild tags, they are maybe coordinating via your servers ts, mumble,…

Please note: Not every zerg/train in wvw has the purpose to farm. Sometimes the whole zerg is just trying to get the dolyaks safely into keeps/towers to upgrade them or is collecting supplies in camps to build siege.

To get contact to your servers wvw community, you should join them on ts, mumble…
If you like wvw, beeing on ts will also help you to survive and understand how it works.

2) Orr:
To get to the temples more easily, you can guest on a server where the temple isn’t contested.

Skins: on the gw2 wiki you can find a list of all weapons and armors,. Just search for “list of weapon sets” and “list of armor sets”. So you can see what they look like and how to get them.

Pseudo Legendaries vs legendaries

When I started playing a Sylvari ranger in August 2012 I first thought I’ll go for Kudzu. Then I’ve seen a Tengu in Caledon with a beautiful bow. I now wanted this bow even more than Kudzu and hoped that it would also be available for players. But the game just started and I was around level 10-15. So there was so much to do and to discover that I forgot about the bow for a long time.

One day I was looking through the mystic forge recipes on the wiki.
There it was! My long forgotten bow: Wings of Dwayna!
It took me some weeks to get it, as I didn’t have enough gold (at this time there were 2 Wings of Dwayna in the TP for over 450 gold). But finally I held it in my hands …um…leaves.

Until now I’ve only seen 5 people with this bow. I’ve seen much more people with Kudzu. So Wings of Dwayna seems to be more unique than the legendary Kudzu.

PS: It’s great that longbow rangers are so cool nowadays (or did I get the wrong memo?).

Nice match-up, very close and balanced.

Only problem are the long queues, too many glass canons, lags and a whole zerg running circles through the ruins. I think other servers have the same problems.
But I hope it will get better soon, league just started and everyone wants to get the shiny new achievements.

/bow to all the commanders who try to organize the chaos. I hope their nerves are strong and will last through these first crazy days of season 1.

GL and HF everyone.

This thread is still too short, so I’m posting too:
When I saw that we have to fight against Vizunah and Baruch again, I first thought: omg, Anet doesn’t like us…
But then I really enjoyed this week. I think we are getting used to these hard match-ups and have fun nevertheless
Though I could imagine that the week may have been a bit boring for Vizunah, as Baruch is on summer holidays and we are just not enough people for you

Good luck everyone with the next match-up!

9/10. A good name for a Sylvari.

I first thought of a “plant” name as well, but as there are many Sylvari with celtic names (like Niamh) I called my ele Sionnachan (pronounced: shunnachan, the ch like in Loch Ness).

That is Gaelic and can be translated with: will-o’-the-wisp, glow and phosphorus (don’t think just of the element, the Greek word means “light bearing”).
