Ele’s, i dont have an isue with them on my s/d thief. One of the reasons i dont run d/d anymore is because of em.

On my guardian tho, vs ellies, its usually a stalemate if they are really good.

It takes ZERO skill to run around with 10+ people. Everyone gets to hide behind everyone and press a couple buttons. There is ZERO coordination, no skill necessary, just numbers. So all you guys saying zerging is the wvw style, you choose style with no skill needed. Props

Remember that next time your 5 man runs over a solo, you and I both know it has happened. I’m wiling to bet you didn’t even give it a second thought.

Since the dawn of 5/8 manning they have QQ’d about larger numbers (well not all) and in the same breath they will run over a solo without batting an eye.

Were fighting a huge force, this is probably the worst week you could expect to find an even 5 vs. 5.

Keep this in mind next time you come to call people out for numbers.

I dunno PAXA. Your 5 man group seems to be specifically specced /designed to take on small groups. Its kind of unfair to complain about fighting zergs, when you are poorly designed to do so (just as my group is poorly designed to take on groups such as yours).

I run a 5 man also [Six] but we are more specced for fighting against zerg forces, which we do exceptionally well.

We fought you a couple times last week 5 v 5 (actually you had 6 or 7 tho) and you slaughtered us.

We came up with a plan to give you a better fight, but it would force us to respec to a similar turtle style group, which we believe would diminish our zerg crushing style.

And the thought of turtle on turtle fighting just seemed kinda boring. Dunno , if more groups of your style start popping up we may be forced to.

For now if we meet you in the field, we will probly just run and seek a tactical advantage till we can thing of something other then using that turtle style.

I’m not bitter, I appreciate you realise we are putting up a fight but all I was saying is no one feels sorry for you, having the transfers you have recieved will get you zero props from most. In the end the reality is Kain didn’t climb until the transfers. Maybe you would have without them but its a moot point seeing as how no one will ever know.

Bottom Line is AR is a proud transferless server that worked our way to where we are, so its insulting for a transfer server to come rolling through and act like they deserve to be here.

Heh there’s just one problem with that reasoning…Anvil Rock is a release day server. Kaineng is not. If we hadn’t had any transfers, the server would be an empty shell :P
I joined Kaineng close to as soon as it was available simply because it was the server where I had the least lag but I have taken pride in its accomplishments since then.
The thing is, I don’t know why new people shouldn’t be allowed to do the same.

In fact I take it as a high compliment to Kaineng that new people have noticed we had a solid, although undermanned WvW community that also happened to be friendly and dedicated. More importantly, the new people that have come in have also been respectful, polite and very skilled, exactly what you’d like from new people moving in.
Whether or not other servers are going to give us credit for our accomplishments is entirely beside the point for me although a fair amount of people on your own server have already stated they’re impressed with us and our organization. Likewise we haven’t played against opponents of this skill level in a long time, if ever so let’s just give credit to everyone who is out there TODAY and stop worrying about how other people perceive this matchup shall we?

On that note, both sides that were fighting at the AR Garrison deserve massive plaudits. As I was personally there I know for a fact that the Kaineng forces there were in fact, extremely well organized and we tried just about every strategy in the book to get in. Great job to our guys for finally succeeding and to AR for making sure it took such an insanely long time!

By my count from past threads, AR has 3 of them. But I’ll take the 3 of them a thousand times over the “we weren’t exploiting, we were just testing if that exploit still worked” from Devona’s Rest (although I hear that guild transferred away from DR now).

Technically PRO is still there, they just trimmed the dead weight who decided to leave for another(higher Tier) Server.

Turtles stopped being “meta” a long time ago in WvW because they are easy to break. It has recently come back in vogue for some reason, but I doubt it will last.

So in a 5v5 or 7v7. How do u break a turtle in an open field? Other than turtling yourself. Turtle vs turtle is boring.

Well my group was 2 thieves, 1 d/d ellies, 1 warrior, 1 engineer (we made him play his mesmer after, but didnt get a chance for a rematch).

Problem is our thieves switch to s/b to try to cluster bomb em, our thieves are exposed for steal/cnd/backstab x 2. thats insta gib on us.

Yea we might take out 1 or two of thier thieves, but they would just move the ball on top of them and res. Rinse repeat.

Turtle balls are incredibly easy to break. The only time they work is against noobs or when you have superior numbers, in which case you should win anyways given equal skill.

Mmm, im not a newb (12K+ kills WvW) and i ran into a group my 5 man couldnt break.

1 mesmer, 2 thief, 1 condition removeing warrior, 1 elementalist, 1 ranger.

All they would do is ball up, if we went in they would just AOE the hell of us. If we tried to range em, the thieves would burst out and kill the range and fall back into the ball if they got in trouble.

If anyone knows counters other than that, ide love to hear it. I dont want to turn my 5 maninto one of these boring turtles

Problem is, ive eveyrone start running these turtle balls, the only way to counter it is

1. run
2. siege
3. form your own turtle ball

turtle ball on turtle ball is like a mexican standoff and boring.

I love 5v5, but if one team is running the ball, there is no other way that i know of to compete unless you form your own balls.

And like the op said, this would get boring quickly imho.

Some roaming action from AD & BSty. The BSty guys are amazing, IMO. Keep in mind that we aren’t on voice with them, but they pick up on everything and react so quickly.

All the bickering aside, AR and NSP have definitely given us the most fun we’ve had so far. And, that’s what it is all about.

But this is WvW. U make it sound like premades are a bad thing. Actually AR needs more of them.

5 dudes tieing up a zerg for 5-10+ minutes IS very impressive in my eyes. Thats a zerg that is not taking keeps, protecting keeps, etc.

And my premade has been trying to run into AD for the last week without luck. So maybe you will get your wish soon and see either us or them get slaughtered in a video.

The AOE auto atacks just shatters all the clones as fast as they can put em up.

D/D imho is very tough against a good mez

Shadow step, Signet of Shadow, Shadow refuge.
Would never ever replace shadowstep or shadow refuge, they are a must.
Signet of shdow, keep wanting to replace it but keep coming back to it.

For the final ability, i use all 3.
Daggerstorm for taking camps/lord rooms
Baslisk for that guy u just cant seem to catch
Thieves guild for small skirmishes.

Thieves guild i was i run most the time, and switch it out based on teh situation. Its pretty much an i-win button in any 1v1 or small encounters you run into.

In WvW, I find S/D pretty decent. Ive run it 90% of the time for hte last 2 months.

Spec 10/30/30/0/0
Bersker armor + divinities (rubys worked too)
Sigil of paralyzation (3 second daze)
Sigil of Rage (haste) + traited for haste on crit.
Alt weaponset with 2 x sigil of perception, builds stacks very quick

Weakness i found with d/d is taking on multiple opponents and zergs, its very easy to down someone, but very difficult to actually stomp them. Its def more single target dmg than s/d.

But s/d is way more versatile. Use the on demand shadow step into a zerg, steal, cnd, dazed them. Now one of my 2 hastes or both are gonna go off with my 71% crit rate. Bam, AOE hasting sword, 3 dead guys. If they aint dead? On demand shadow step away. Rinse repeat.

See a thief tearing you friends up? Use the on demand shadow step + steal + cnd = dead thief from halfway accross the map.

Want to stomp the guy you jsut down but hes gona friends rezzing him? It can be difficult with single target Daggers. Sword? jump in the middle of the rez and kill them all.

Getting yer kitten handed to you and yer stunned? Shadowstep down? Teleport to a enemy/rabbit/etc with swords shadow step.

All S/D really needs is flanking strike to be tweaked and its far superior than D/D imho (In WVW).

In Spvp i am generally in the top scorer in pugs. But honestly i think D/D MIGHT be a little stronger (im only level 10 glory). Condition builds on teh other hand i think are stronger then both for pug matches.

These videos just show that we need to up our game (on a personal level). I think our overall map strategies are good and we have some great generals. But man, we got quite a few players that are in dire need on training for the small battles.

What it shows is that:

Premade vs pug, advantage premade
Premade with team speak vs PUG without, advantage premade
Premade calling out targets vs PUG that isn’t , advantage premade

All your statements are true. Ive been playing mmos since Ultima Online. Thing is, barely anyone in AR uses premades. And even fewer have the skill to pull it off half as good as these guys.

I wouldn’t say we are the best 5man out there, personally. I think when you get small group versus small group matchups a lot comes down to what professions and builds are there and, of course, who gets the drop on who.

Also, we don’t really have an “A-team.” We pretty much go with whatever we have and a lot of our team have multiple 80s so our composition is hardly ever the same. We typically run with between 2 and 9, but usually between 4 and 6.

We tend to be heavy on guardians and warriors (which is good for some matchups, but not so great for others) and light on thieves (one main, one alt) and mesmers (one active main who is on vacation).

Hopefully, we will run across you naturally. I personally don’t like doing arranged fights since things can get a bit awkward with friendly and enemy adds. You’ll get accusations of working with the enemy, etc. etc.

Oh yea, i dont wanna do arranged fights either. But feel free to msg me if yer bored, we will at least let ya know what map were on if we are just roaming (not during operations tho obviously), u can try to gank us.

Its all good fun, no kittening. Maybe we can exchange tips n stuff too.

I think the problem with BP is they are a server with a high number of transfers and fair weather players. If they get blown out on friday, their morale is destroyed for the rest of the week.

Thief took out 3 guardians in WvW last night — I found two dead in the road by the time I arrived. Fought the thief for 45-60s before I finally died from bleed stacks. During that time he stealthed about 5 seperate times (I would really like to say more than five but I honestly lost track). I found the stealth the most frustrating. I understand it’s a “mechanic” of the thief, but the frequency of application seems too high.

My favorite… stomping from stealth — yep that’s just salt in the wounds baby.

I think stealth is fine. But i think until the culling issues are fixed, stealth plus haste is a little OP. Remove haste until culling is fixed.

I mean why should a guardian be able to operate a ram on a door, while getting blasted by arrow carts and aoes, and barely take any damage (passive healing etc).
Its not fair, i try to operate a ram in such conditions and im dead in seconds.

Anvil Rock s/d thief here. Its probably a s/d thief shadow stepping you with #2. There is no cool down and its only limited by how much inititive they have.

When they are shadowstepping it may apear as if they are stealthing. So yea it looks unlimited.

This thread isnt a QQ or how do i beat glass cannon thieves. I can already beat them on a regular basis. I was semi-afk during this incident and i was jsut curious about his damage.

I only play WvW just running a 1 trick pony signet thief is worthless imho. Ide rather have shadow refuge, 25% perma run, and some other utility skill based ont eh situation.

I was pretty impressed. This thief instabgibbed my thief. Currently im running 20/30/0/20/0 w/15k health, all zerker exotic.

Basically, he came outta stealth, stole on me, cnd’d me and backstabbed = dead.

During the whole attack i couldnt use any of my weapon skills to escape (dazed perhaps?)

Im thinking 25/30/0/0/20…but ive run the same build b4, and i never saw those numbers on a level80 with kittenll exotics.

Ive never been rolled by GOAT. I have fought you alot, you have some good players and you have put up some good fights. But most the time it ends up with GOAT corpses laying around me.

Well, last night my small group ran around for a couple of hours. I would say AT LEAST half our overall kills were thieves. Can’t say positively they were all AR but tons were. Even found a group of four ezmoders on middle island that exploded from AE. You can throw a million pieces of siege, running around solo, generally does kitten for the realm as a whole. Hey I run around solo on occasion but I know all i am doing is looking for fights, nothing generally for the realm. Oh, and I do love when a thief attacks me with his shing shing and they see very little health come off and then run away, it amuses me.

Because bunker is such a pro build right? Signet buffs, auto atk heals, and bubble res’ing people to fight your battles for you must take a lot of skill.

See what I did there? Every class has its own advantages and disadvantages. Legitimate balancing issues aside like culling (which isn’t even a balancing issue as it is exploited by everyone because its a computer rendering issue. Thieves and mesmers simply gain more from it since they render and derender more frequently because of their stealth. But i’ll admit that its an issue that DOES need to be addressed.) there isn’t much to complain about thieves for anymore. Perma stealth got cap’ed at 25 sec unless you mean the permastealth gained from the cap stall build, but that one is obsolete now. Dancing Dagger dmg got gutted as a viable anti res spell. C&D got cut my 1/3. They can no longer stall caps on points. And the FOTM build you’re talking about has no stun break except for the steal they used to initiate the fight, and the worst hp/toughness in the game and can literally be taken down in less than 2 secs by anyone with power gear and CC or a good understanding of where the thief will be headed when they stealth. Thieves run away because they can’t win unless they get the drop on you and a bunker is a hard counter. Besides, the profession is called thief, not warrior. Expecting him to go toe to toe and trade blows with you is pretty ignorant of the archetypes they are basing the game off of.

Most of the classes are pretty balanced right now. I’m not saying there isn’t more work for them to do, but complaining about class comp is a weak argument as, like you said, running solo doesn’t do much for your team, and believe it or not: most thieves don’t run solo. Scout ahead maybe, but in general they are like any other class, and understand that there is safety in numbers.

I am indeed a guardian, but never have I played a bunker build. I am complete hybrid. I’m not using the advantage of not being seen to win. Yes, if you are playing a thief you are playing with an advanatage above all, sorry you don’t like that FACT.

Running with zergs (like borlis pass does) a guardian is far more easy mode. Let me guess, atruistic healing build of some sort?

When did 5k become a lot of damage? I guess if you have 1700 armor (or was it defense? or maybe toughness?) then that would seem like a lot.

It’s a lot of damage when it can be applied every 0.8 seconds and there is no way to kite. Damage is fine if there were realistic escape options.

My guardian drops AOE 6k bombs every 4 seconds in addition to my AOE autoattack.

Thats 30kdmg on one hit to a group of 5.

My thief cant do that much dmg that fast unless im using slow as cluster bombs which are easily dodged

I’m not sure why you think playing a thief makes you any less vital to the team. Sure if all you ever do is roam around and kill you’re not being very helpful, but that’s true for any class. I play thief. I get lots of badges. But I also use all those extra badges i earn from kills to buy and place siege, use my mobility to do super fast supply runs, use my stealth to revive allies and/or get stomps on key targets that can turn battles, scorpion wire that kitteny ranger or ele spamming from the walls down for my comrades to kill while I AOE the seige on the enemy battlements, and use my speed to scout ahead of zergs to call out locations of enemies and report enemy army sizes to coordinate flanking maneuvers and call in people to defend positions that haven’t even been attacked yet. This is all not to mention that the thief has arguably the best damaging AOE spell with explosive shot and a 3 bounce auto shot that hits for 1.5k regularly and anti-enemy revival AOE with choking gas.

Explain again how I’m not helping my team and am causing AR to lose through these obvious examples of unskilled and selfish behavior…

Oh yeah… and be real: If %50 of our server ran thief, you wouldn’t ever see us coming, especially with the culling issues. %15 run thief at most. Yes, that number is an estimate, but 2 things: I let you know when I’m bullkitten you and I’d wager my badges of honor that my guess is a lot closer than yours.

Well, last night my small group ran around for a couple of hours. I would say AT LEAST half our overall kills were thieves. Can’t say positively they were all AR but tons were. Even found a group of four ezmoders on middle island that exploded from AE. You can throw a million pieces of siege, running around solo, generally does kitten for the realm as a whole. Hey I run around solo on occasion but I know all i am doing is looking for fights, nothing generally for the realm. Oh, and I do love when a thief attacks me with his shing shing and they see very little health come off and then run away, it amuses me.

FOTM: Thief, cause some need that base advantage.

Why would anyone play a thief if they removed the current stealth mechanic?

Personally I don’t think it is population of the servers that is the problem. I think it is the people on the server that WANT to play WVW. On BP we happen to have a great number of people that want to WVW, just like people just want to PVE. I can’t speak for other servers but WVW on BP is accessible and fun for whomever wants to come. Most stay because they have had a good experience, they are helped and have things explained by more experienced players. They are included in groups not shunned by guilds, we at BP don’t treat WVW as an exclusive playground for the big guilds, and if you come in you can’t run with them. Everyone is included in all the fighting, no one is told on chat that they are stupid, or go back to PVE, or to change your spec because you suck, or L2P, ever. We don’t put off people like that, so they come back, again and again, then they Re hooked and they tell their guild mates and friends. I am one of them. I hated PVP but I was bored one day and jumped to wvw. I was discouraged and didn’t know what was gong on. Luckily I saw in chat, everyone form up in Diasharo, and I just followed and had a good time, still didn’t know what to do, but it was fun. No one called me a noob and I clearly was one.

So that’s why I think we have numbers, because the people on BP want to play. do people on your server want to play with you? If they did am sure you would not have problems fielding enough to match up with anyone. Remember it’s a max of 160 per side per map. Not a kitten load. So before you start crying about population, look at yourselves and how you treat your server mates, because that is probably the case.

Ya, AR actually has twice as much WVW’s than Borlis. But we still cant seem to beat your awesome tactical skills.

Honestly, im still having fun more this match than our last ownage.

If you enjoy dominating maps with greater numbers, more power to ya. Having a zerg roll down my enemies while barely getting a hit in is boring.

Ill continue to roll around with my gank groups with a 20+ k/d ratio and take towers at will :-)
