You can get rid of the personal story by finishing it. I consider that the true reward for finishing the personal story, and it’s why I’ve finished it on all of my characters.
Transmute the rune to another item, then salvage the other item to retrieve the rune. From there, the rest should be obvious.
As a player around the top 500 NA in achievement points, I absolutely agree that dailies/monthlies shouldn’t count for achievement score. Dailies and monthlies pollute the achievement score with points that really don’t say anything about one’s achievements, but speak more to the volume of hours spent in-game.
This could also have something to do with the toaster-level graphics in the screenshot. I have the armor set and have never noticed this hole, and I play on the highest settings.
EDIT: I adjusted my wording so that no one on the mean ole’ internet would be offended.

The only real value is in convenience. You can carry twice the duration of the oil in one inventory slot as you could before.
Yeah, my legendary is still up on the TP, and I definitely do have my doubts about whether it will ever sell. That said, maybe one day it will, and if that ever happens, it’d be really cool to be able to actually use the gold locked up therein.
Getting undercut is very real in this market, but the best thing you can do once you’ve listed it is to stick it out. As long as your price isn’t totally obscene, it should theoretically sell eventually, and you don’t want to be unlisting something that cost you 100g to list in the first place.
I’m also not totally broke as a result of having listed it, so it wasn’t crippling to me. I am by no means as wealthy as Vol, though, but I’m not an economist at the end of the day and I don’t enjoy playing the TP. My only real investments are safe ones in the long term that are practically guaranteed to earn me money.
Tonight is another guild challenge! If we keep earning so much influence, within a month or so we may be able to start puzzles, which is very exciting. Either way, if you’d like to tag along for guild missions, let me know! We accept players into the guild who only want to do guild missions, too, and for those members repping isn’t required!
Collect all the caches. 6 in PvE, 1 in PvP….
yup this is OBVIOUSLY a PvP achievement.
You said it yourself. One is located in a PvP zone, so that one is quite obviously a PvP achievement, and you need to be able to PvP to get it (or be lucky and have friendly mesmers at the ready). It’s really that simple.
Anyway, that’s all besides the point of this thread. This thread is asking that camping / killing other players in a PvP jump puzzle be forbidden, and I strongly disagree with that. Some days I get the jump on others and kill them, and some days I get killed. Most days I don’t even do the JP because I’d rather be out contributing to my server in a more meaningful fashion. That all said, I don’t think PvP should ever be forbidden in the JP, and I don’t think camping should be inhibited or prevented in any fashion. When enemies camp, if you really want in, you get people and you kill the campers. It’s simple.
Molten Alliance Mining Pick
Recovered from the Shiverpeaks, this dredge tool has unlimited charges and the same efficiency as an Orichalcum Mining Pick.
When equipped, it says it mines ALL metals.
Ah, very well!
I’ll just leave this here then… Valor Zeal [VZ] is a PvX, medium-sized, mostly casual guild and we’re on SBI. We do WvW mostly small-scale, and we don’t have dedicated WvW days or anything, but we do participate a lot individually and sometimes as groups. I can be found roaming a lot myself. That said, we’re PvX, which means we do a ton of PvE content, namely dungeons. We’re not discriminatory over which classes players bring, but we do content as efficiently as we can with the classes we do bring, which makes it a mostly painless experience. We also have guild missions including bounties, treks, rushes, and challenges, and are getting fairly close to the influence required to start puzzles. This means you can collect commendations for ascended gear without issue by being with us.
Anyway, if you’re interested, you can read more in the link in my signature. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you’d like an invitation or if you have more questions about the guild. You can reach me by PMs here, mail in-game, whispers in-game, or by posting in the aforementioned thread. No matter what comes of this, I hope you find the guild you’re looking for. Our server has lots of great ones.
Hey there Rebounder:
You sound like you’d fit well with my guild, which also happens to be on the Stormbluff Isle server, and in lieu of that, I hope you consider us for your guild search! Valor Zeal [VZ] is a casual, medium-sized, PvX guild with nearly all guild missions researched and done weekly, and a lot of friendly and helpful players willing to help you learn about the game as you grow and play the game more. We do a lot of dungeons constantly and on a daily basis, and we also do WvW small-scale and bigger-scale as well periodically. We also have a very core group of PvPers in our guild who SPvP all the time, and they’d be happy to teach you about that as well if you’re interested.
If you are interested, you can read more in the link in my signature, and I encourage you to contact me in-game for more information. I’m available for chatting either by PM on these forums, in-game by mail/whisper, or by posting in the aforementioned thread.
Regardless of how this turns out, I hope you find what you’re looking for in a guild. It makes a world of difference.
What server are you on, Codata?
Popping this up for a new week! We’re always looking for new friends to run with in dungeons, small-scale WvW, and other things! Let us know if you’re interested at all!
There aren’t any real dedicated WvW guilds in SBI, but if you’re looking for a group that does more WvW than anything else, I’d recommend either [TB] or [DC].
That all said, if you’re really interested in dungeons and things, my guild might be suitable, but I don’t want to put it all out there if you’re primarily looking for WvW.
I won’t quote the second wall of text you made after that just to say that it was a thing from 4month ago and even trying to call me out on my memory (is it really that bad that I can remember things I’ve read from 1 month ago?)
Bad? No. Surprising? Very.
The thought of taking a guardian that’s fully PVT clad would not even register for most of the speedclear oriented players. Not even for FOTM 48.
I didn’t find that post when searching, but I will confess that I didn’t put much effort into scouring my past posts, so I must’ve just overlooked it. It must be closer to 2 months ago than 1 month ago because I have had this armor set for at least a month. I wish posts just had time stamps to know for sure, but anyway, I don’t wear that armor set in dungeons anymore.
You could edit it in yourself if you’re motivated.
Yes, it is true.
How did you came up with 5-6 seconds ?
He used the trait that adds 50% fear duration, among other condition duration boosts (like the Spite traitline and runes).
Someone just sold a bunch of them it would seem. Give it a bit to rebound back. Maybe more people than you were sitting on a few thousand!
I doubt that. You’re just pretending you were going to join to give some fake weight to all the wine (pun intended) that came after that.
I don’t know where you get that from. The only requirement that I dislike in LOD is the 100% repping during dungeon runs and things of that nature. In my guild with my friends, I let people bring whatever they want and I suck it up and deal with it, but it is very inefficient and sometimes very droll spending so much time reviving people or reexplaining mechanics that I’ve explained a dozen times because people forget or people can’t dodge or what-not. They’re my friends, though, and so I don’t like telling them they can’t play with me because they like using X class or Y build. It would be nice to have people to run things with who know everything already and who do things properly every time. If you don’t believe me, that’s fine and is your prerogative.
Not too long ago you were saying that you were running builds, gear/traits that were made for wvwvw and just be decent in PVE, and even called retraiting “pricey”. That kind of stuff wouldn’t fly around here. It’s impossible that you even considered the thought of joining us if you even had the slightest idea of what it means to join a decent dungeon guild.
I actually searched my post history for where I said that (I remember saying it; my gut tells me it was ~4 months ago). I couldn’t find it and I browsed back 3 months, and stopped because I don’t feel like perusing 40-something pages of posts. Anyway, I’ve given most of that up and have WvW armor sets and PvE armor sets now, and have a decent enough income in-game to switch as is needed. As a side note, I’m surprised you have such a vivid memory of that one post of mine, and have seemed to attach that mentality to me since then!
You call us toxic? I’d say people like you are toxic, and the reason why there are multitudes of thread talking about how TA F/U is so hard and impossible to beat since the patch. Spreading around the ideology of “anything goes”, then people buying into it and whining as soon as something doesn’t let them achieve “anything goes” without turning the run into a kiting hellhole.
You are the one who is doing a disservice to all these people who buy into your ideology and then hit their brick wall.
I don’t actually know how to respond to this because I have no idea how it relates to me personally at all. Just because I run stuff with my guildies to be a good friend to them and let them bring whatever doesn’t mean I disagree with the fact that it slows things down, makes things unnecessarily complicated, and can result in runs being harder than they should be through player contribution alone. In-fact, I quite agree with using specific group compositions with specific builds to optimize a run’s speed.
In this entire post I’ve made a conscious effort to avoid the targeted rudeness and such. I envy your drive, but this sort of thing is exactly what I consider the problem, and is exactly what I was talking about (though you are certainly not the only member of your guild who does these things). You could have made the exact same points with the exact same (arguably more) efficiency without any of the rudeness or targeted disaccreditation, and I think if you did, it’d be a good thing for everyone involved in the discussion. You’d probably have better luck instructing people to not run into the proverbial brick wall, to boot.
Anyway, this is just something I’ve really wanted to share with LOD for a long while, and I’m glad that I had the opportunity. Hopefully you can take my criticism constructively and don’t take it personally as aggressive and/or offensive. I respect what speed running groups do.
So tone it down by 1 second, or drop bleed and make it only add 1 torment stack. Really, the point of the post is to look at the general idea of the suggestion, not to nitpick on the actual numbers or whatever. That’s something Anet would pursue on their own if they were interested in the idea.
I had a pretty nifty idea for melee cleaving and how we could achieve it through our class mechanic that I thought I’d share in the hopes that maybe it’ll inspire some similar ideas from others and potentially some good discussion.
My idea is as follows:
- Your DS 1 skill changes based on which main-hand weapon you have
- Staff DS 1: is the same as the current DS 1 we have
- Dagger DS 1: Melee range, very high power, and performs raking AOE hits, hitting up to 3 targets in melee range
- Scepter DS 1: 900 range and inflicts 1 stack of bleed and 1 stack of torment for 3 seconds (bit stronger and burstier than just scepter 1 auto attack)
- Axe DS 1: 600 range and does area of effect damage centered on the primary target. Inflicts 1 stack of vulnerability to each struck foe.
- Trident DS 1: The same as current DS 1 underwater
- Spear DS 1: Melee cleaving attack underwater that is pretty high-power
What does this do?
- Gives power-based builds cleaving so that they are useful in PvE and more useful in team comps in PvP/WvW where they can hit multiple targets at once
- Creates a more suitable DS experience for conditionmancers wielding scepters
- Encourages build diversity and weapon swapping on the Necromancer for different DS effects
- Gives DS an autoattack range consistent with the weapon we’re currently using, which makes it more fluid to use and switch in/out of
- Is really awesome and would make DS feel that much cooler
What do you guys think?
It was absolutely worth the 30-point investment back when you were only getting 3/10s out of it and even more so now that you can get 3/7s.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree that it’s worth being a GM trait and really strong for what you get. It’s particularly valuable in WvW where there are such obvious tells for some CC’s, like the static field you mentioned. That all said, I think my only argument is that this isn’t an instant-win-vs-CC, and just by having ~50% uptime of stability doesn’t make the Necromancer the best CC handling. A lot of CC’s in both PvE and PvP/WvW are very quick-acting, and tough to preempt with Foot in the Grave.
Correct. It is the same as if you popped the F3 on Guardian without the grandmaster Virtues trait that makes it break stuns. It would simply add stability and you’d remain stunned for the CC you’re currently suffering, but new CC’s would be ignored so long as stability lasts.
3 seconds of stability every 7 seconds is probably one of the best stability access you will see anywhere in the game for a “quick escape from a cc ring/box/line” due to the low cooldown, unless all you want to do is run away once and cooldown doesn’t matter to you.
I just wanted to chime in that while stability on demand like that is nice, it isn’t a stunbreak, and so it’s not as valuable as you’d think. Most other stability-access in-game also provides a stunbreak, whereas this one doesn’t, and so you have to preempt a CC and block it. That’s a lot tougher than it sounds when you only have 3 seconds of stability, even if the theoretical uptime of the stability is just under 50%.
No, it does not look like the temple of the silent storm.
That’s the spider tree, right? If so, the only one that has to be dodged is when it shakes its leaves and drops the bombs on you. You basically watch it shake, wait 1 second, and dodge roll. You can tank the other hits pretty safely.
Bounties went smoothly last night, and tonight is treks / rushes! We also just started the last upgrade before we start the journey towards the 50k influence for Puzzles, which is very exciting. (A lot of us are jump puzzle fanatics, so this is a pretty big step for us!)
That all said, if you’re ever interested in joining us for either just these events or for a more permanent residence, don’t hesitate to let me know. VZ would be happy to have you.
Yup, no reason to respect people who decide they want to go actually have fun after their server has repeatedly told them to kitten off when they want to try being more competitive… Oh wait.
I have no problem with people transferring to seek better challenges and things of that nature; I do, however, not like the way Dragonbrand conducts itself and treats others (particularly in match-up threads and with constant partying / harassment in-game). Based on how they represent themselves to outsiders, I sigh softly when players transfer there. They don’t deserve a guild like ALS.
Furthermore, in the match-up we had with AR before this transfer, I spoke with a lot of ALS members on their BL because I was roaming a lot that week, and all of them expressed a deep love for AR, and a few said they’d never leave it. It saddens me deeply that the eponymous guild of a server has chosen to leave it when it needed them the most.
It was. You just missed it, which is why they made a different post about it.
Touché. Still should probably be merged.
Why wasn’t this in our match-up thread?
The Svanir join up with the Nightmare Court in the last unlikely alliance that hasn’t been formed yet, Mordremoth revealed at last, Tengu a playable race, and more!
It’s not a bug, it’s a player mistake, and one that you’ve hopefully learned from. That all said, I do agree that these items should be “Account Bound” and “Soulbound on Equip” much like the exotics from Fractals.
It allows any teammate to stop other teammates from taking full advantage of their build, that’s a problem, and an ‘issue’. If you don’t think so, you must not be much of a team player, and that is your issue.
It’s also a predictable mechanic that any coordinated group can properly utilize. If you can’t, then you need to L2P, and that is your issue.
It’s not a serious issue. Hell, it’s not even an issue; it’s an opinion.
I don’t do a lot of armor mixing or what-not because I actually really like the fluidity of the T3 armors. My Sylvari is in T3 medium and looks gorgeous with her colors, my Charr is in T3 heavy and looks great, my Norn is in T3 medium and I love it, and so on. I mean, for my “second” armor sets I usually get creative, but I really love the way the T3 armor sets look, and I feel almost compelled to use them after spending 120g on the set!
That said, I don’t go for the all black/white dye look, but sometimes those colors really help bring out what you want to communicate with a dye setup. Ultimately, I just use what I think is ideal for the character I’m on and for that armor set.
Oh no, not 24 hours without traps! They’re integral to all servers’ success in WvW! Whatever will we do?
Challenges were tough last night, but we succeeded by the skin of our teeth. Tonight we do bounties, so again if you’d like to tag along, don’t hesitate to let me know.
Why does this thread indicate a dev post, yet I don’t see one? Did a dev comment and then remove his post?
Yes, they initially closed it due to the “good bye” part of the OP, but reverted that because it was a very exciting first in the WvW community to be able to discuss.
Heaven forbid the jump puzzle that’s present in a PvP zone encourages PvP tactics.
wut sever did the guilds that left AR go to ?
Dragonbrand
I had so much respect for that guild before this decision. Shame.
This thread, instead, should be titled:
Not a Thief? Whine About Them
I do all JPs just fine with or without swiftness or speed boosts. I tend to run with them on because it just speeds things up (naturally). I am generally ambivalent to this situation and will use my swiftness skills no matter what. If it bothers you, you need to say so in /say chat so that I know that you like moving slower. Then I will try to be conscientious of it (and more likely pull far enough ahead of you that you can’t get my boons). If you don’t say anything, it means you don’t care, and so I will continue doing what I was already doing.
I’ve always asked this. Why the hell do we get Mini Horrik and other such garbage from the meta achievements for these living story events and not weapon tickets? That way people could actually work towards them.
This achievement was the first thing to get me to go back to that jump puzzle since they nerfed it to being account bound. It was a refreshing experience.
He had to repost the thread because he combined it with a going away thread before, which got it closed. Thus, now this is just to discuss the achievement itself, which is well within the forum rules.
Grats again, while I’m here.
Using reduced waypoint and repair costs works for us to keep our merits below 250.
Those are a total waste though. If you factor in the “value” of the influence used based on the merchant value for that influence, even ignoring the merit cost, you lose a ton of money making those things.
About the only thing I find actually valuable are heroes banners, but the better deal for those is with guild commendations, not influence/merits.
Charged Cores / Lodestones.
