I think I see where they introduced the bug. I’m happy to give them a mulligan on this though. And I see why it may not be nearly as simple a fix.

The change to the dailies to introduce the “Daily Activity participation” was the new mechanic, and in the background, this, like karma vendor, is tied to specific NPC interaction. I’m betting the bug also affect laurel vendor dailies.

I think that when they combined the activity dailies to trigger the single achievement, they missed the trigger that ties the npc interaction for laurel and karma, as those require only the interaction and not the final completion of anything.

Just my guess. And I can see how that would slip past QC as the distinction is probably not apparent to a tester, while a coder could even easily overlook it. Its not the end of the world for me, lots of fun stuff to do.

One thing I never saw mentioned, was that if Evon won that would have meant a greater probability of the stats gurus doing further stats on chest loot, and a potentially small benefit to buyers of creating more supply of the rarer chest drops.

As for someone spending a gold a day on WP travel, I really have to ask, are you sure you are doing it right? LOL!

I’m actually impressed with what you do get from the average box, compared to other MMOs. I tend to reserve my key activity, I “reward” my toon with a block of 5 keys at level cap, when they do go on sale (which they don’t seem to often. call it a little RP oriented fun. Everything I got has been useful, and I made a few gold off of minis and such.

But then again I treat it like a very special reward, not a casino experience. That in my mind is what gets people upset, that they fall on the down side of the RNG goddess and don’t want to take the blame and move on.

Next time they go on sale I have some gems waiting for yet another toon. But that anticipation is what lures me, not any expectation of anything more than some buff tokens. I guess you should ask yourself if you are a scratch-off addict. If you are then check yourself, if not then carry on.

Easiest? Pick one. Although a couple are somewhat limited until at least 20 while others seem to bloom early. Warriors have a lot of weapon skills to play with while engineers seem confined early. But a little later when a warrior seems to offer only a few builds that suit you, engineers seem to blossom and give you ideas.

And then it starts over. You realize that profession X has some stuff you missed, and profession Y doesn’t quite show the potential you envisioned. And then again, and again. Even at cap.

Now, I will say there are some very minor advantages/disadvantages based on size of the toon. Asuras are tiny and that can help, depending on the player, in reading enemies for dodges, in gaging jumping puzzle distances, etc. It is very minor and one can make the argument for an in-between size regardless. But easier? That is more related to what kind of skills you like; AoE rings can frustrate some and yet enthrall others. Some like movement others like cooldown efficiency. Some use the mouse all the time others hardly touch it. “Easy” is a loaded adjective….

/Bugged it myself. Tried various purchases across the map and nothing. Looks to me like a minor issue that could fizzle or else hurt Anet in the reputation department. So far I’m betting on a quick fix and acknowledgement, as I’ve been impressed so far with their attention to detail. I may disagree on direction sometimes but I do appreciate their flexible approach to these things.

For others reading this and wondering WTF do they do in the meantime, I was able to do dailies with no issues outside of this one, so while an annoyance, please consider just moving on to other categories and give them a mulligan. Frustrating, yes, end of the world, not for me. And if you didn’t realize it Mount Maelstrom counts for Maguuma dailies. If that helps.

what is the root bug for blademaster?

This forums search functions don’t cut it so please redirect as appropriate, but blademaster is bugged one way or the other.

Can Anet comment on whether A) the effect is there but not shown in the stats, or B ) it just doesn’t work?

I really like sword and horn with signet default but if the latter then I would like to know so I don’t waste points on it, or if the former I just accept it as almost a tooltip bug.

Anet devs please weigh in. It is definitely bugged, but if it isn’t usable I am happy just to know that and move on.

BTW I am unexpectedly really happy with the recent warrior changes, a tweak in strategy/style really brings things to the table for me, but this blademaster bug IMO is unacceptable without info to work around. Just a simple answer is fine, I’ll adjust as needed.

Because I started this I feel compelled to make a huge post.

First, I originally allowed my enthusiasm to overwhelm my message; please people, I was wrong, don’t follow my lead. I applaud the original responders for steering me towards a more civil track, it may go unnoticed but I noticed, if it makes a difference. Thank you.

Second, I must say that my experience in grouping in this game has been as negative as any other MMO. One on one you would find I keep an open TS server, I am fairly competent in most environments given any random class and build; I am a believer in consensus but only after the “bond” has been established; I won’t go craft something for one run but given a group that likes to talk and to help, and most importantly organize, I am happy to find a niche that I can feel is acceptable, and play a given role. This game, along with any other, does not foster that mindset to my satisfaction. I generally enjoy solo and if other lone wolves happen by while I am futively trying to stay alive, that to me is more in the spirit of the stated altruistic objectives.

I have a tendency to look down my nose at the uber raidgrind players, but I admit circumstance has often forced them to be picky. I would ask them to forgive that and pug more, while I atone by trying to group more, although I do not have any interest in joining anyone’s guild or committing to set play schedules. That is a grind factor I don’t have any interest in, and don’t want to see.

I disagree with the ethical objections against MF but I’ll leave it at that.

To the point, I spent some time this morning pursuing chest spawning with looting off, and dammit if I got two chests in an hour. Such is the fickleness of the RMG goddess.

HOWEVER, in that setup I noticed something that may have skewed my evaluation, I’m not afraid to admit; while one chest had the happy white cloud, the second chest did not, which tells me that my initial perception of what did and di not get a chest were further skewed and not applicable because I was auto looting. I’m okay admitting that; I still would like to see the stat stay, maybe nixed for instances to make both groups happy, but my evaluation is now more suspect.

A final parting note is that whatever happens, I think I am on the minority, but I do share the concerns of those who have invested in MF gear, to wit: what happens to that stat: I hate legendary PVT stats, and would like to see something outside the box; Pow/pre/heal is something I could work with for instance. Especially on my new celestial stuff.

It hits pretty fast too. Doing an event a second time seems to bring it on quickly for sure.

I really really hope there are no special items in the queen’s event so I can see what vanilla farming does.

To capture footage, do you have any recommendations on an app? I really would like to prove I am not crazy and showing just one kite without a chest would do that.

I have no idea how I would prove that. I can’t believe that anyone regularly playing would not have seen this though.

Like I said, if it is tied to a column roll and only the columns normally containing a yellow would have the ability to spawn a chest, and the event items were added to all columns, then I can see how this would be the norm, and how the chest spawn rate would also be increased.

If I understand what Tuomir is saying that is the only way can reconcile it.

But you have a point, next set of experiments will be with loot off. Though I have just checked to be sure and I have 10 rares stashed for skins and have used 5 BL kits, which means since Monday I have gathered 15 total rares, all PvE and no meta events. Monday was not a productive day in Tyria either, so the bulk came in the last three days. I have never seen this much dropping this freely. I have no way to to tell how much of anything else dropped except to say that by mid-game Tuesday I felt I had figured out a good strategy to insure I got a drop of something on almost every corpse. That was originally what I was after, to see if I could tell when drops of any kind started thinning out, and I think I did.

If anyone is curious, I now seriously discount the comment that DR should not affect the average player. I think it does.

I am definitely talking about raw kites and ballots and not the loyalty reminder bags.

Until two days ago I definitely was spamming the loot key, and with the new AoE looting that was skewing my perceptions, admittedly. My goal at that time was just to measure drops of any kind because DR was my concern. and I was grabbing the loot and vaporizing the chests before the cloud even dissipated, as you would imagine. But the last two days I have been very careful to allow the chest itself to materialize and the vapor to clear after each battle to see what was coming from the chests. Like I said, the yellows appeared with and without the chests, with and without the verbal cue both ways.

For whakittens worth I have gathered maybe a dozen or two dozen rare pieces of gear (I don’t know the total as I salvage anything “plain” looking immediately and only saved maybe 10 or so with skins I might want later).

That doesn’t make sense to me on the surface, because a good portion of those kites and ballots came with no chest. They also occur with and without the verbal cue (“What a find!”) with and without the chest. Unless you are saying that the ones in chests came from a rare loot column and the ones that didn’t came from another column that just happened to have yellows in it (for the LS event)…I guess that would make sense if the chest were both column triggered and color triggered. Please go on.

No, all those chests wouldn’t contain orbs and crests. You wouldn’t get all those crests.

Let me put it to you plainly, event items are added to global drop rates. This means that when you kill a mob and it rolls for loot, you’re getting event items at a rate very similar to common items, like Needles and Broken Lockpicks and Glob of Globby Goo. It’s not quite as high a drop rate as those items, but it’s a very noticeable drop rate.

The only reason why they appear in chests is because the color of the item themselves is rare, not because the items are rare during the looting process.

Let me tell this to you one more time, because I don’t think you’re going to get it…
KITE FORTUNES AND SUPPORT TOKENS ARE NOT RARE DROPS, THEY ARE SIMPLY YELLOW ITEMS.

If you want me to continue, I’ll start explaining how Precursors aren’t dropped at the same droprate as other Exotic items, even when using 4 Exotics (of the same type) in the Mystic Forge.

So please explain what would be in those chests? I have never seen one with anything other than a yellow “something”. needles and lockpicks are not yellow. I do understand linked lists and how they are used to traverse loot tables very well, but from a practical enbd standpoint I am seeing tons of the little bonus chests and they always have (and always have had for me since they started appearing) a yellow item. I call them rares based on color, forgive my nonchalant nomenclature.

And yes I do see a huge increase in the drop rate of “normal” loot, like materials, trophies, whatever.

So your stats no have to help your allies or it is somehow selfish? I would turn that around and say it is quite selfish of you to expect an ally to depend on stats that benefit you, without considering the other variables (I think you would find that I can be a pretty good teammate regardless of how I geared, compared to some).

But I must and do apologize for my tone, I am defensive, it has taken me awhile to find the best way to avoid what I felt was DR, which I am now convinced of. I have a sore spot about MMOs that seem to devolve into cookie cutter raidgrindfails.

please accept my apologies for allowing my emotions to get the better of me. I know I won’t have any effect and just wanted to shout my opinion, for all the good it won’t do.

Besides, aren’t you being selfish yourself by not wanting others to maximize their gains? You aren’t forced to group with anyone you don’t want to, why do you want me to meet your grouping criteria unless you have a nanny complex?

Good lord, do you nanny types realize how seriously condescending you are? Like the people who complain things are too easy but wouldn’t dream of running a dungeon in all whites.

I hope you realize that getting a kite fortune or support token isn’t quite the same as getting a rare item.

When this event is over, you’re not going to be seeing rares in place of all the kite fortunes/support tokens you’ve been seeing.

They will likely be orbs and crests, that is okay. I don’t think I have ever pulled a bonus chest that didn’t have a yellow something in it.

this is now my third foray into experimenting with magic find, and finally I think I have it figured out!

The whole give/take with MF gear is a great trade-off, having to give up a major stat to get a small MF stat. Makes the game more challenging and ups the reward for doing it.

The only thing I wish was there was a stat set with MF, Power and Healing, but I’m fine with what we get now.

The new celestial gear has been a good substitute for part of the normal explorer gear, again some tradeoff but some added reward (and the mix n match flexibility is nice).

I’ve figured out how to avoid diminishing returns from bogging me down, and I see now how a bot would be hard pressed to get around it. But with my new method and an average of about 135% I am getting a bonus chest about every 3-5 minutes, lots of times two or three from one little encounter. Awesome!

The only drawback is that with the living story content, those rares are often kite tokens or voting ballots, but I can live with that., I think I have 500 votes set for Evon this week LOL!

So please Anet, I know you want to revamp things, but this IS NOT BROKEN and it is not something a bot can really take advantage of easily. Please rethink your plans, or at least insure that we still have the option to outfit for increased reward by giving up some other stats. It WORKS PERFECTLY!!!!!!

With Warrior, I just didn’t care for how useless gearing “full tank” (power/toughness/vitality) was

No offense but it sounds like you allowed preconceptions to box you in and then moved on. Of course warrior may in fact not be right for you, but if you think maybe a second look is in order;

Soldier’s is not necessarily the only way to gear a “tanky” warrior. Knight’s gear swaps the vitality for precision, which adds some extra damage, and does not mean it is wasted without crit damage; it synergizes well with proc-dependent gear like sigil of blood or the elemental sigils.

There are also a few ways to run a bleed warrior, allowing you to look at condition damage, duration, and the skills include multiple roots which adds a whole new aspect that you might like.

On the other hand, while I am a warrior fan I really like the thief class in a tanky melee build (sort of tanky at least).

In my opinion, this game requires too much grind

I have a big red bar when I login but I have not changed my password because it is complex and unique to Guild Wars 2 as are all of my passwords on all sites I use. The only way my password is a problem is if Anet itself has been compromised.

A more reasonable policy would be for you to check to see if I am using a blacklisted password and force me to change it if I am. It is not reasonable to force me to change a password because I MIGHT be using one.

unfortunately such a database, and the entire process of informing you to and making sure you do something about it, creates its own security breach.

Be assured that the “database” is more of an algorithm than a list. This whole exercise is one way to increase password strength across the board, although negative aspects affect those with already strong passwords and safer practices more than those who hve no clue.

the “database” also consists of your password with capslok on or off. Just FYI. In fact there is even more to it than that based on my analysis but seriously, choose a secure password, and don’t try and use xkcd’s suggestion as that 2000 word database is now in every autohack library available. In fact i question why anet would promote that specifically.

Not only that, they just opened up people to keylogger’s who were perfectly safe before because they used autofill.

Neither of us had any issue being branded as money launderers. I have also done crafting for others and usually ask that they simply send me the coin and I will bid on and wait for the mats to come through, which means exchanges in the realm of 2 gold from time to time. I have not encountered any issues nor, to my knowledge, have the senders. This has never exceeded 5 gold to my knowledge. Take that for what it is worth.

I can say from real world expertise that it would be counterproductive to set any hard threshold to identify laundering.

You have 8 dungeons to choose from. If you have troubles with completing the almost hardest of them, maybe you should practice running easier dungeons. Once you improve your skills, then you should start running CoE/Arah. Zerg rushing bosses was never a valid tactic, it’s similiar situation when anet fixes exploits and suddenly you can’t beat the boss.

Not really. People who preferred throwing themselves at the boss without actually learning the mechanics will have a hard time.

Throwing ourselves? Did you read my post?

We read the wiki, watched playthroughs on youtube, looked on the forum to LEARN the mechanic before trying the boss. We spend two hours and a half trying without succeeding in any way. Getting instantly downed with AOE everywhere, even when trying to stick together or even dodging…. It’s dis-gus-ting, unfun and against any kind of good design for fun experience.
Even when we ‘learn’ the so-called mechanics, most of the dungeons are broken or inconsistent in many ways. Some of them got better, but some got worse. It was all about trying to please everybody, which this patch fails now. This game was said to be for casual. I don’t call learning everything by heart and teaming with specific professions a casual play style.

Like I said, it’s forcing on us your perspective instead of just allowing us to enjoy the moment and learning by ourselves. I didn’t learn any lessons from Subject Alpha fight 2. I didn’t. All it told me is that it sucked, was not fun and it was disgusting, wasting two hours of my time.

I’ve been killed thousand of times in video games in my life, each time I learned from it and I was able to identify what went wrong, what mistakes I did and the punishment wasn’t too hard. It was still fun. We did Sorrow Embrace path 2 before the patch. We had a hard time with the boss, but we learned from it, found strategies, tried different things. But this one (Subject Alpha), we don’t even have the chance for this. I’ve yet to try Arah exp or any other dungeons.

Right now, the dungeons kill any kind of motivation. With repair bills, big Aoe Zergs, lags sometimes, random party members or even with guildmates, it’s not fun (which was what Guild Wars 2 was supposed to be). Fractals should have been more difficult, not ‘normal’ dungeons.

If you wanted pure and harsh challenge, you could either run dungeons naked, solo it or whatever all by yourself. You could also choose to not use Waypoints at all. Everybody had a choice. Now we don’t. Only you are pleased. Once again the hardcore MMO players are changing Guild Wars 2 in a way we don’t like. First the ascended (though now with laurels it’s a little bit better), the big grinds for infusion/legendaries/ascended, and now the dungeons. Good job….

Awesome Arena net, Thank you for ruining our pleasure

Learn to dodge and CoE is just fine. People shouldn’t have been dying in the first place. Hopefully after a while people that can’t dodge will stop running CoE and make them more enjoyable for the rest of us.

I personally hope that the people that don’t know how to dodge will die and reset until they’ll learn.

not the other way around

Exactly, rez-rushing is generally considered an unpolished last resort and something to be avoided, but a final option for a new group to get through and chalk one up to experience. Now it is a matter of starting a dungeon and kicking people instead of teaching them.

If they really intend for more teamwork then they need to implement ingame voice, otherwise they have just started on the path of rewarding elitism and pushing the beginners out.

Nothing more at the moment. This is one game where, finally, one can go the crafting route, the token route or the luck route and theoretically end up with
the same thing, aside from the skin.

Official statements indicate legendaries will match ascendeds outside of the agony slots. Now here’s where I think people get off base; assuming legendaries get a couple of points extra stats, and assuming over a few years a full set (armor weapons and jewelry) are made available, does anyone really believe there will also be the plethora of choices in stats that exotics enjoy?

Seriously, go back to the first statement and stick with that for a few years. It is just a skin.

That is not a game flaw, it is simply the result of the closed economy. There is no value added in crafting, it is only removing value (you lose a subset of buyers).

Your labor, as it is free for you, is not something others will readily pay for because it is free for them as well. Only buyers who want it “now” are going to be potential proit paths and their price point is pretty low. Not only do they have a plethora of suppliers in your position, they can also farm dungeons, PvE, etc.

Use crafting for what it offers; a flexible and prudent way to outfit yourself and your freinds. Consider the adage “a penny saved is a penny earned” and remember that set of armor you made would have cost you money had you not gathered the mats and crafted it.

Greatsword Wars 2?

I have never found GS to be anything special in any department. I have downed GS opponents in PvP (my experience there is limtied so far though), and in PvE it doesn’t let me move like I want.

My theory is that people who think GS is the be-all-end-all for warriors simply play with a style that favors it and cannot bring the others to their potential using their particular style. That is the way they play and if GS suits them then let them enjoy it, I know I like teaming up with a GS warrs, it is a good synergy (I run sword/warhorn). They cut a path, I jump around keeping bleeds up. Centaurs fall down.

I have tried mace on warr but never could meld with it. On guard it is the go-to weapon though.’

I am a big fan of horn, especially with the signet.

I simply coulld never get any love going for the skills the way I have for sword2. I cannot function without that leap. Axe-F1 is a substitute, but does mace have anything like that? On guard hammer2 is close.

Accuracy or Force

Force is better. Otherwise go with battle.

Care to back that up with numbers?

Force is guaranteed to deal +5% damage on every hit, while accuracy just gives you a 5% greater chance to land a critical hit (which is a rather negligible increase).

If you are built to take advantage of crits then the damage bonus isn’t appreciable.

I use sigil of blood. I do zero additional crit damage. I have about 90% crit chance. If I had to choose between the two (force and accuracy) the math would be obvious; accuracy wins the day, I can make up for the damage tenfold by dealing an additional blow instead of popping a heal.

you are wasting any bleed chance, any bleed duration, any bleed damage and any condition damage with axe/axe.

Axe/Axe is fine, if you like it then make it work. Leverage the vulnerability aspect of axe 2 (you should keep this on them constantly for the dual buff/cond).

here is a PvE strategy that works for a lot of singles and small groups:

axe3 to target, F1 to get in their face, axe2 to apply vuln, axe5 to wear down the group, axe4 to start its cooldown, axe1 until axe2 recharges and reapply. If you go down, select the lowest HP (which should be the first target if they are still alive) and you will likely revive.

That is situational, but a common situation. If you focus on the cond of axe2 instead of bleed and actually keep that condition active you will augment any power buffs you have as well, and any crit buffs.

Vuln is a powerful tool. It boosts power and crit.

So you're new and want a build

I endorse this post 110%, but will add:

when using sword2 for tactical movement, be aware that your target may be that stupid grawl totem behind you and you will back up 60 meters right in the middle of a bunch of mobs you were trying to get away from

I absolutely hate when that happens…

Warriors need serious fixes now!

I can’t comment on the others but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the burst, you have a choice of whether to use it all at once or save it up and milk it. You can trait towards saving it or rebuilding it super fast. You can choose a weapon that sucks it dry in one use or one that milks it.

Imagine that, they force you to choose a strategy instead of making you choose one set standard tactic. And each one has gasp drawbacks and advantages depending on the situation!

That is not broken, that is genius. If you can’t run with that maybe a guard is more your style? They don’t have to choose, the class basically has built in training wheels.

his is what I mean about movement being a large part of the warrior toolkit. Notice a considerable amount of sword and horn as well. The battle against the abomonation is a good example, too many people approach battle as if they were playing runescape or lotro or any of a thousand other games where you target, engage and push buttons and monitor cooldowns.

And as has been said, there is an amoutn of luck and considerable amount of bypassing obstacles whenever that option is available.

This has me wanting to go back and try some solo.

So Here's The Plan ;)

maybe you should forget about planning a warrior and just let it happen?

These classes don’t even gel until 20 or so, and everyone moves and interacts differently with the game.

Besides, there is no way to follow a “build” of any kind until you get beyond level 35 when triple traits are available on gear, and even then you can only choose a max of 2 slotted traits.

By 65 you will start to see a trend in what does and does not work for you. At 80 ou may have a good idea of what armor you want and will be experimenting with upgrades, jewelry and weapon stats. At 120 (yeah 40 relevels into endgame) you will start to narrow it down, possibly choosing swappable sets of gear.

But at level 1? Don’t pigeonhole yourself, and remember that what works for some may not work for you.
