I can’t seem to find any falling skill for guard, I think it was called protector’s impact.

Seriously they can’t have removed the falling skill, those are some of my best go-to utilities when doing odd things. It’s still there on warrior thankfully.

The real Anet solution is to allow more bank space.

Seriously, it draws revenue for the team, it gives people more digital room to store more digital pixels, and it unbalances nothing as the luck is vanity at this point. Same with all the other garbage we collect over the years.

What say Anet? More space so we don’t have to discard stuff that doesn’t become valuable until much later when most have thrown them away **cough**miniframes**cough**!

Traits Part 2

RollingBob.8502

Would it be a good compromise between the new and old system if the prices for blue traits were cut almost to nothing, green traits were set at half what they are? In addition to the quest unlock option as well of course.

It just seems to me that the only real change that is forced on anyone is the huge expense in skill points just to have a decent stable of traits for various builds. Lower that cost somehow and you deflate the argument of how it used to be better for certain styles/builds.

Or, here’s a thought, instead of specific quests for specific traits, how about quest lines that open a choice of traits?

I culd probably empty an entire bank tab if I just had some confirmation that things can be safely dumped. I don’ want anything for it, I’m good with just trashing it. In fact some things I am pretty sure are actually trash at this point, like the orphan letter, etc.

If I just had some confirmation that was the case, i would be cool with it.

How many vision crystals do you need? There are ways to get vision crystals that are basically free. Lots of achievements or pvp tracks give vision crystals and you can buy them for 20 skill points. But unless you are crafting the armor, vision crystals are useless.

where can you buy them for skill points? What about the lesser versions? That is what i really need.

I never understood why people thought the LS was bad for the game.

There seemed to be various new JPs and dungeons opened as it went along, new areas and things to do, and no one was forced to give up anything they liked.

I do think all the time gate BS and overabundance of currencies was a terrible rat hole that too many MMOs go down, but the LS I thought was pretty nice way to offer new things.

Maybe I missed something that the LS hurt?

I have (had) a warrior built with toughness, condi and precision, set up as bleed warrior (power was not neglected just not pronounced, i think knight and lionguard). The low damage solo was evident, even after they started to melt, but the thing was I could run through an NPC/mob zerg, whack as many as possible and generally not only grab aggro but pretty much keep it as long as I was the only bleeder, even with some other melee class trying to tank. Have not tried any of this since ascended though, and rifle was nerfed so bleed warrior is not even a decent goal. But…

The aggro assist from the bleeds was pretty evident and testable by adding other bleeders. It seemed to me then that condi was as good as raw damage because it allowed you to do other things, kiting dodging juking and spreading it all to various mobs, while self-clening/healing. And the groups I played with, we weren’t exactly playing the meta; someone wanted to play a given way that was fine, we experimented a lot with the mini-bosses at the time. Disclaimer- This was while everyone else was running karma trains in Orr (remember those?).

things

The seed is randomly reset in a typical RNG function. It can be made to repeat if that is what you want. And while ultimately an arbitrary rather than random pattern, consider attempting to recreate a sequence from a simple RNG function if you only know the first number.

Loot tables are static but magic find and it’s counterpart DR are not.

Not really randomly reset because in computing there are no “true” random, all it is done is create several layers or algorithms where the resulting number is based in hard to follow values, like current used CPU clock for example, and based in that result get another parameter to base the RNG and so on.

EDIT: I know that theoretically one can predict the results of a RNG if he knows all the variables, but in reality it is just impossible to do.

Right, arbitary vs random being pretty much semantic differences for the same thing in this case. It doesn’t matter because the differences we do know that are applied to the resultant permutation (the loot table lookup) are huge. Magic find as the obvious example.

At least the ESC menu can be toggled off by tapping ESC again, so if it flashes up it only blocks your view for a second.

My problem, that is entirely of my own making, is that I have my Dodge and PVP keys right next to each other. Combat gets heated, I hit Dodge, only to have the WvW scoreboard fill my view when my finger’s already moving back to my skill keys. Ouch.

May I suggest mapping dodge somewhere else that you don’t ever use and then mapping that key to a thumb button on a gaming mouse? Unless you are a point-and-click, if not you’ll find putting that dodge into your fluid movement/direction hand (your mouse hand) you have much more intuitive control.

What the other person said that random is an illusion and knowing all the variables there is no random. He is 100% correct.
Even in a simple example like a coin toss, if you know the angle, the force, the distance of the arc it will make, the air pressure, mass of the coin, air resistance of the coin and all the variables, you can predict with 100% of success the results.
Same with in game RNG, every software needs a “seed” to generate a random number, most of the system use among that seed number things like current time stamp, machine mac-address and so on, and an ANet dev already said that account info isn’t used in the RNG, so if some genius know all the parameters needed to create the number, he will be able to predict for sure what will be the result.

Welcome to the ugly side of DR.

This happened before in the past. Whole dungeon runs on all three paths suddenly stopped dropping a single treasure chest.

When this happened before people didn’t resist it they knew what the culprit was and they demanded it be fixed but I think we need to go a step furter.

DR needs to be removed entirely because when have you ever played a tabletop MMO or a console game and had it retroactively take away the loot you just found?

That’s exactly what DR does in this game, it makes it gone.

Oh and to those who keep saying it’s RNG, RNG actually let’s you get something, it might not be what you want but it’s something. DR makes it so that that something doesn’t exist for you and in the case of their account system, doesn’t exist for your account.

^^^This, so much this.

And that is why people swear RNG varies by account. They are only half right. It is the account, but it is the DR score, not the loot tables themselves. Just like magic find affects the loot rolls, DR affects it too. I suspect the explosion of magic find has prompted them to increase DR penalties.

Moment of silence for those of you who actually liked the AP treadmill, but I had given up on APs some time ago and laurels were the only strong play driver for me.

Why? This change makes it easier than ever to keep up with your AP, and come January those who have capped dailies will have another 2-3K AP open up for them with the combined monthly/daily cap.

well the occasional extra laurels were nice of course, and I have no reason to turn down a few extra gold or some karma. But the nebulous value of a few percent this or that increase, skins to a mostly incomplete armor set, titles that i wouldn’t be displaying anyhow, and some consumables I either never used or could get elsewhere; these things really didn’t prompt me to run the AP game.

In fact now I don’t even have to play. Just keep an old scroungy laptop alive that will log in. 5fps? no problem! Its just a menu choice and a click. Maybe harvest some blade shards and sprockrets, candy corn and crystals, charge a crystal at my krait shrine, play some ebayRP at the TP, discuss the latest movies in the chat window. LOL!

Can’t say I am upset about that. I can play how I want to play or not at all. Not sure if that is what they intended, but it definitely removed the grind of playing from the grind of time-gated content.

I sympathize with all the complaints about the dailies, but I can also live with this, I’m pretty neutral here, except for one thing:

How to earn laurels now?

Maybe I missed it but completing 3 dailies did not appear to grant a laurel.

I know the AP chests grant a few.

Monthlies is anyone’s guess until they roll over, but that is a quarter of my laurels, dailies are the other 3/4, for the most part. Are they leaving too?

Maybe laurels will now drop elsewhere or something?

Crafting -- Is there a point?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: RollingBob.8502

RollingBob.8502

Your 6 jewelry/accessory slots are covered without crafting, consumables are plentiful in the TP. There are a few odd crafted consumables that might be account bound but the only one I can think of is the twisted portal.

From a technical standpoint, legendary weapons are sellable and ascended armor drops, but neither is really a reliable source for most so these are the only two things that crafting gets you in terms of gameplay.

Theres achievements and the like, skins, and the pure enjoyment some people find in it, but it isn’t necessary or even strongly encouraged if you are good with exotic gear. My son does no crafting at all on his toons and doesn’t want for anything. He does dabble in the forge occasionally for mystic kits and upgraded siege, but that’s a little different.

probably engineer, as the gear choices are limited but made up for by offering lots of kits and toolbelt skills.

But at 80, in level 80 areas, you can definitely feel the differences in various stat builds, which is the other side of gear. So in that respect everyone is gear dependent.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t mind crafting but it isn’t really an important part of the game for me.

For those that just hate it, I don’t see why they can’t provide an NPC that could craft ascended for you if you bring them certain things, quest items etc. They could have blah skins, maybe cost more overall in materials required, and even potentially have a few days order time as a gate. But i wouldn’t force major RNG on them beyond the normal RNG of material drops.

I don’t see how that would negatively impact anyone.

One thing worth noting, is many players suspect there are multiple levels of diminishing returns. There are also different types of diminishing returns with separate flags, on event rewards, on dungeon rewards, on loot drops, for example.

Based on personal observation, and the observations of other players, it’s my belief that diminishing returns on loot drops has various levels. The more you kill a mob of a certain type, and/or the more you kill any mob within a given zone, you’ll start to see more and more ‘empty kills’ where instead of averaging loot every 2-3 kills, it might start taking 5 or more kills between your average drop, and slowly increases. Whether you inevitably reach a point where no loot will drop at all is still unknown, but that’s the conclusion that was drawn by some people given how the maize balm farm worked.

There’s also per-character flags for diminishing returns, as well as account accrued. He never specifies what type of diminishing returns he rarely sees “in any given hour”. If it’s the absolute ‘no-loot-at-all’ limit, then it’s completely expected that that number would be low. If it’s account wide, then of course that number should be low as well. But what about the initial steps of diminishing returns on loot that many of us suspect exist within as little as 30 minutes (depending on how fast you’re able to kill mobs)?

I can guarantee there is. And I don’t believe for a minute it only affects a handful.

But it also seems pretty easy to remove as well.

If it's not a thing anymore, get rid of it..

Maybe that is what they changed, so that the ones falling through the cracks weren’t penalized for simply playing the game .

The mouse cannot control movement nor can it control directional targeting.

You are incorrect here; the mouse allows movement control just like almost any other FPS/RPGS that allow camara adjustment on the same controller. “Button on the right, smoother control it allows” as Yoda would say

You are comparing this game’s UI to a genre of games with mechanics left over from 15+ years ago, where the center aim point was always fixed to the camara and the mouse only has to control that aimpoint. It was born of a different time, and its simplicity allowed something closer to 1st person instead of iso 3rd person with the rigs most people had. Some people continue to prefer that in their gameplay today but it is extremely limiting for the player. Compare assassin’s creed movement along near rails to the freedom of jumping puzzles in GW2.

Your strong hand should never leave the mouse unless you knock your Dr Pepper off the desk. Once you get confortable with that a whole new world will open up, especially with newer games. Seriously.
