This has probably already been brought up (I’m not going through 26 pages of requests), but I’d like to see animation packs.

For example, there could be various packs that allow your character to perform different idle animations, weapon animations, emote animations and running animations.
I’d even be fine with them separating them into small packs, such as greatsword animation pack #1, offhand sword animation pack, human male idle animation pack #3, and Female Charr emote animation pack #2. Even just copy/pasting animations from other races/sexes (with slight tweaks here and there) would be ok with me.

Perhaps it’s just wishful thinking and this is all out of Arenanets budget, but I’d just like to see more visual customisation options outside of armour, weapons, and facial features.

Might stacking without HGH

Ronin.5038

I don’t think there’s a way for engineer to indefinitely keep 25 might on an entire group, and even if there is you’ll have to sacrifice such a large amount of your own personal damage and utility to achieve such a result.

As for that build. It’s terrible for dungeons. Nomads bad, renewal sigil is bad, trait setup is poor (eg. why 25% speed boost from power shoes when you can get a 33% boost instead?), no steel packed powder, utilities are poor (eg. why flame turret for a measly 19 seconds of 3 might when you can pick elixir gun and have 35+ seconds of 3 might with extra useful skills and on a much shorter cooldown. Won’t be relying on a turret either.)
Overall, bad for group, but its ok if you enjoy running this solo (anything is).

Good engineer support is through stacking vulnerability, blinding enemies, stacking team might, slowing/controlling with chill, team stealth, and cleansing allies.

Anything you find fun is absolutely fine for solo pve.

But if you’re looking for an effective pve build

Some things can be changed (EG to rocket boots, infused precision/invigorating speed combo, shrapnel to forceful explosives, short fuse to explosive powder) if you feel them to be better.

Bombs and grenades are just straight up better than flamethrower in every way. More survivability, more damage and more support.

For solo content, anything you find fun is fine. But if i was to make changes to this, i’d say:
Replace flamethrower with bomb kit (it has much more damage and survivability)

Drop 1 point out of both tools and firearms and 2 out of inventions. Move all 4 points into explosives and pick forceful explosives and either short fuse or explosive powder.

Change fireforged trigger to infused precision (combos very well with invigorating speed)

Replace toolkit with battering ram (for more S/D)

Sigils can be battle and strength for easy might gain. May want some might duration runes to go with that.

Use cheap food. I use mango pies or blackberry pies for solo content.

Ronin.5038

For levelling, bombs are your best friend. Try to los groups (up to 5) of enemies so they all stack up in a bunch and just drop bombs at their feet. Smoke bomb will help you to survive and bomb 1 and fire bomb will do the killing.

Taking speedy kits is also highly recommended. Its basically a permanent 33% movement speed increase.

Healing turret and elixir gun should nullify conditions and rocket boots will allow you to get around a map faster.

Engineer is a great support character, vulnerability, team might, team stealth, plenty of aoe blinds, team condition cleansing, control skills, and there’s even some team healing in there with heal turret, toolbelt regen and super elixir. You can get all this even when running some of the top builds for engineer.

I can only speak for pve here.

1st thing is that gadgets are kind of lacklustre, even when traited into. Only real use is RB for open world and ram for a S/D.
2nd is that grenades without grenadier is also a rather poor performer.
3rd is that you’re lacking good aoe skills for fights against more than 1 opponent, traited grenades and bombs in particular.

Here’s what I use
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdMQJAqelUUpdrlYxPLseNSaBNq0A6M8i6+5GEgnC-TBiFwADegAf0DMa/BjK/AoEkxJCQm6PX0QEA4AgpDECQxGA-e
Interesting thing with this build is that is has both good power and condition damage, so if you’re looking for a hybrid, this is a very good setup for open world and dungeons.

Last thing is that your a newbie so you’re likely not rolling in the gold to buy expensive gear. An alternative to strength/hoelbrak runes is aristocracy runes from CM. Doing your daily for t6 bags and guild missions along with dungeon runs (even story mode AC, CM and TA if you’re not confident enough for exp) will help you collect gold.

For pve, engineer shield is one of, if not the best choice.

Unfortunately if you’re looking to see your shield often, you won’t with an engineer. Hobosacks take precedence over your shield.

You won’t have to run a condi build either as your damage comes from kits (bomb/grenades) not from pistol which is terrible for damage.

PVE - Condition/Healing Engi - Rate Build?

in Engineer

Posted by: Ronin.5038

Ronin.5038

If running solo then whatever you think is fun is fine, but if you go into dungeons with this your likely to be more of a liability than a boon to the team.

Instead of support through heals, think support through offensive skills. Vulnerability(steel packed powder/precise sights),blinds(bomb/grenade kit/static shot)and might stacking in particular.
Your emphasis on condition damage and turrets also won’t help the team as both are lacking even when boosted by traits (the only turrets worth using right now is healing turret or thumper for quick might stacks)

Nobody can stop you from running a subpar build, but just remember that while you think that you’re doing good, you could be doing 5x better.

These look like flamethrower builds to me.
The thing with flamethrower is that it’ll never do good damage.

No idea why your trying to build might stacks with flamethrower and HgH. You can acheive the same results with fire field blasts, strength/battle sigils and strength/hoelbrak/aristocracy runes.

No steel packed powder and precise sights means you’ll be losing out on one of the main things that makes engineer credit to team. Vulnerability stacking.

While i’m all for more builds, i wouldn’t try to pass this off as good utility and dps contribution to group play. I’d say it’s a somewhat better than your average flamethrower build.

Should I get a legendary for my engineer?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Ronin.5038

Ronin.5038

The Predator looks great, and looks even better when skinned over an Ascalonian rifle.
Problem is that Hobosacks don’t look great and that p/s is usually a better choice.

The only sign that you’ll have a legendary is when grenade barrage is used or when swapping to rifle for 3 and 5. Aura stacking can also be done which will persist even when using kits (grab that infinite watchknight tonic if you don’t have one before the current living story ends).

You’re probably investing more in the aura than the weapon itself. So if you like the aura and the grenade barrage effect then it may be worth getting.

Perhaps one day ANet will actually do something about engineers and our Hobosack/legendary problem.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdMQJAqelUUpdrlYxPLseRSaBNq0AyM8CRFyP3gA8UA-TBAhAUsBA-e
That’s what I used to kill her after around 12 attempts (I died more to the orbs pulling me into visions and red circles while Liadri herself only killed me once).
Can swap out bomb kit for elixir r if you want more dodges.

A few tips when fighting her:
-When luring visions into the light circles, moving left and right quickly and constantly will duke her phase 1 attack.
-Heal up with super elixir and cleansing burst when waiting by the light circles. Use healing turret only when you’ll benefit most from it.
-Do not use healing mist for its regen. Save it for if one of those pesky orbs pull you into danger.
-As soon as phase 2 starts, I’d chain her with throw shield and supply drop. Take this time to load her up with chills and bleeds from grenade kit.
-Kite her around the arena with grenades, making sure to only use 1 dodge for the big aoe circles.
-Destroy any orbs as soon as they appear.

Basically, chill and vigor are your best friends for phase 2. She can’t hit you with her melee if she cannot reach you.

I don’t think that’ll work well with static discharge. Only 2 of your skills will work (BoB and analyze) and both are on a decently long cooldown.

Vulnerability stacking isn’t fantastic. Sure it’s there, but using only bombs with 30% condi duration won’t net you more than 12 stacks I think.

Might stacking isn’t fantastic either. You only have 2 blast finishers (not counting elite) and one of those is tied to your healing turret. No battle and strength sigils is a fair loss of might stacks to.

Would it be ok to buy exotic assassin’s armor instead of zerker? I know assassin is a bit weaker but I want to save some gold— my engie’s on a shoestring budget being my tertiary character and currently only has condition gear for wvw. Obviously I’m not bringing that stuff in dungeons. I’m somewhat hesitant on going too far out with min-maxing exotic gear that will be obsolete eventually.

Also, is there something in between ruby orbs and scholar runes?

There’s basically three camps of people out there:

1) People who “play how they want”. They usually run extremely random, disorganized builds (“I’m a dual pistol minion master thief”) and generally aren’t in the dungeon to “win” or even to complete it. Most are just there for the “experience” and are likely first-timers or RPers.

I don’t know where you got this information, but as an RPer in all RP guilds, most, if not all, of our members have vast knowledge of the builds and stats and know how to play them.

I’m an RPer and run an apothecary build for engi. People call me useless at the start of the dungeons but when I’m sitting there not only doing as much damage as they are, but also keeping their kitten s alive, respect gained.

PvE engineers suffer from some of the same symptoms as rangers.
It’s not the class that’s bad, it’s the players (some of them). It’s just not as well known due to the population differences between engineer and ranger.
I’d say that engineer is one of, if not the best at carrying a bad pug and can dish out good damage if built properly.

I guess you could swap out rocket boots for bomb kit. Bomb kit already comes with good survivability (smoke bomb and glue bomb).
Rather than increasing your standing power through boosting vitality and toughness to take more hits, why not increase survivability by blinding/snaring everything (other than those hated dredge) and keep your damage stats. You’ll also get more aoe burning (fire bomb) which will help boost flamethrowers damage.

If you did this I can see dropping infused precision for Fireforged trigger a good choice if you don’t need so much vigor.

By the way, I haven’t actually run this build before (I’ve tried flamethrower before, but it’s just so lacking compared to bombs/grenades). That was just something I made up in 5 mins. Swap out more berserker stats for knights if you really want more toughness.

Damage with grenades?

in Engineer

Grenade auto damage varies a lot. There’s 3 grenades and each one could or could not crit. Then you could factor in the possible bleeding you’ll get from sharpshooter and shrapnel and that grenades are 100% player controlled and could miss with how they seem to land randomly.

In my best case scenario I’m hitting around 900-1000 per grenade auto (2700-3000 all up).
300 non crit and not full berserker seems normal.

Don’t worry about that thief. He deserved to be kicked if he was berating people on their performance in a random story mode pug.

Started a ranger, reading alot of negativity?

in Ranger

Posted by: Ronin.5038

Ronin.5038

It’s not that the ranger is poor, its that most of the people playing ranger are poor.

For some reason, the ranger class attracts the most inept, lazy, selfish and stubborn players. Most random ranger players I meet seem to think that ranger = pure ranged and so we get short/longbow campers in dungeons (usually with a terrible pet in tow and bad traits/utilities) refusing to use a much superior 1 handed sword or even the greatsword.

You should definitely continue to play the ranger, just remember to do some research on the class when you hit 80. Practicing how to use the melee weapons while levelling helps to.

You’ve got a few survivability stats and good uptime on vigor which you’ll need without bombs and grenades blind spam.

As for the build you linked:
-Healing turret is almost always preferred over med kit in pve.
-Why go 20 points into inventions for 25% increased movement speed when you can go 10 points into tools for 33% move speed?
-invigorating speed/infused precision is a good combo for vigor uptime (twice as many dodges = more survivability)
-Utility goggles is ok, but I’m guessing you’re using it for the fury in which case experimental rifle turret would be better.
