Naturally, coming to the engineer sub forum and asking that type of question is going to generate quite a few biased opinions, but some of those opinions hold true.
Yes, engineer is excellent at applying most all conditions (I think fear is the only one we don’t have access to) and a fair few of those conditions are applied through aoe.
Yes, engineers can be comparable to elementalists when it comes to swapping out and micromanaging skills if you choose to use kits.
As for what sets us apart from other classes. It’s already been mentioned, but I’d have to agree with crowd control. If you choose to, Engineer can have plenty of crowd control. Some would say that engineer is the jack of all trades, but I think a fair chunk of our diversity has been destroyed by Anet and their careless nerfing.
The only way to know if you’ll enjoy the class is to play it yourself, rather than have others tell you how “fun” it is.

Direct damage is superior to full condition damage builds in most cases, so they likely converted over.
Can’t really blame them, what with condition caps, damage reduction with more than 1 heavy condition user in the group and conditions not working against structures/objects.
However, there is one you can blame. Anet.

Yes, the ability to turn auto attack on or off would be a fantastic addition to grenade kits #1 attack.
I remember running CoE with grenade kit one time, and I had to change grenade kit out half way through just because my finger was hurting way too much from #1 spam.
Although I’m not expecting a positive and intelligent change like this for months, because it’s ArenaNet.

I’d prefer it to be changed back to the way it was before. Although keep med kit, bomb kit and possibly flamethrowers the same as they are now.
If it’s considered too powerful, then knock it up to be a master trait.

I saw some guy link a skin that was a toy 1 handed sword that had 8 bit flames along its blade when unshealthed.
I also wouldn’t be suprised if skins that look similar to the main bad guys weapon become available later.

The line i hear the most? My Asura saying “There’s the power” when she gets might.
The 1 line i like to hear most from her is “You’re dumb. You’ll die and leave a dumb corpse” when initiating combat. Too bad it’s incredibly rare to hear her say it.

Stick with Rifled Barrels in the Firearms tree if you’re going with elixir gun.
The trait has a hidden advantage, it’ll change Elixir Guns Tranq Dart to apply a 3 second weakness instead of 1 while only losing 1 second of bleed.
This will allow you to keep perm weakness up on creatures with defiant.

Is Legendary Weapons Worth Crafting?

Depends. As an Asuran Mesmer, my weapons are tiny, so the showing off factor isn’t really there for me. Although if i played any of the other races, i’d probably work towards The Bifrost as it should show up on all my clones. Rainbows everywhere.

Are they worth crafting? Nobody can answer that but yourself.
Do you like the skin? Do you want a long term goal? Are you willing to grind for hours? Do you want to stand out in a crowd?
Ask yourself these questions, and you should probably look in the weapon locker and you might see a weapon skin that’s almost as good or better than the legendary skin.

It’s a great minigame, but it’d be better if the exit button wasn’t 0. I’ve accidentally pressed that a couple times which ruins everything. Perhaps only being able to exit in between songs would’ve been better?

It also doesn’t help when notes dissapear halfway down the track due to lag.

I was able to get a Princess Wand skin out of the jumping puzzles Giant Wintersday gift.
I’m not sure what the personalized gifts would give, but my guess is it’s the same.

Using kit refinement with elixir gun was fantastic before and it’s even better now with how it’s bugged.

My mesmer can’t stand up to the amount of 850hp+ aoe healing that my engineer can do, but i’d say it’s somewhat even support wise with all the boons my mesmer can cast on my team.

Condition damage/toughness/precision gear is great for a pve condition engy. Also half of my accessories have vitality on them just for a little more health.

For runes, i run with rune of the centaur and do fine. But i did use undead runes before which were also great.

My build is 0/30/0/30/10
Infused precision, rifled barrels, fireforged trigger
Invigorating speed, protection injection, backpack regenerator
Kit refinement

Pistol/Shield
Med kit, Elixir Gun, Bomb kit, Elixir U/R, Supply Crate.

Basically it’s big survivability, big self and group healing, big enemy debuffs and big party buffs.

I sacrificed damage, but i gained fantastic group support and i love it.

Cool Tricks

I’ve got one.
All you need is healing turret, bomb kit, rifle turret and a net turret.
Set up all the turrets in 1 spot and then drop a big ol bomb followed immediately by a smoke bomb. As soon as smoke bomb goes off, detonate all your turrets.
If done correctly, this combo will provide 10 seconds of group stealth.
Add in more blast finishers such as #4 shield and supply drop and you can get up to 14 seconds.
It also has a low cooldown of about 35-40 seconds.

Incorrect. The tool kit is great. You just have to know how to use it. Such as plant BoB then use the tool kit to pull them to you. With my condition build, the pry bar chained with static shot and concussion bomb, allow me to keep confusion up 100% of the time, with a minimum of 2 stack up to 5, depending on which ability is up in the rotation

I was talking about PvE and not PvP, the toolkit is useless in PvE but anyway this thread is about the flamethrower which is also kind of useless in PvE and PvP if you ask me.

It’s not totally useless for pve. I’ve used it to pull targets from groups of baddies in dungeons which allows the group to take things on 1 at a time.

That’s my points, I don’t want to use peacemaker because I don’t have a nice looking legendary, i want the choice, why do warrs get to pick between 9 legendary and we only have 3 to pick from and none looks nice on an engi, maybe the postal if you engi looks like a clown lol

It’s what we’ve got to put up with when warriors are favoured by the devs.
Also, warriors have the largest weapon selection out of all classes, so naturally they’ll have the widest range of legendarys to choose from.

Flamethrower can shoot through walls, which makes it ideal for various dungeons (CM for example with all the side rooms and enemies that do not move) and i use it for gate defence in wvw.
Other than that, i don’t find much use for it.

For wvw, burst damage is more popular and useful, but i still do allright with what i’ve got.

I use both a T3 Asura Peacemaker pistol and shield.
In my opinion, both look better than either legendary weapons.
Matching gear (both style and colour) go a long way to.

Fumigate is bugged like Flamethrower and it could actually give us something of a twist on the flamthrower type. Its a to long cooldown as it is now anyway imho. The dart yea i use it. And i could be wrong here but i doupt we get any crits when using these kits either. We need to switch from the kit to the gun/rifle to get it off.

Fumigate needs to be manually aimed to get the most out of it.
It’s cooldown is fairly solid, 9 and half seconds when traited.
We do get crits when using kits.

Well yea, it will surely bring more people to the “Care-Area” calls in wvw but other than that, id like to see abit more usefullness of the other stuff on the Elixir Gun + perhaps stats thrown on it from our own weapons? :/

Other usefullness on the elixir gun? What are you talking about? It’s one of our best utility skills.

Try running the trait Rifled Barrels then check your Tranquilizer Dart. It should now apply 3 seconds of weakness instead of 1 second. You loose 1 second of bleed, but its a great tradeoff for stacking long weakness.
Fumigate can be used to clean conditions of teammates, acid bomb to leap away from danger and now with this unintended super elixir change, elixir gun is now soo much better.

I agree on stats on kits, but for some reason ANET just doesn’t understand that problem.

So i just did a TA SM run and noticed that my super elixir is healing for much more than usual. Being downscaled to lvl 50, my super elixir was healing for 200/second.

After finishing the run, i checked to see how much it’ll heal at lvl 80.
It heals 410/second at level 80. This is with only one super elixir on the ground. Put 2 on the ground and it’s 820hp/second and this is with 0 healing.

I’m sure it’s just a bug, but enjoy it while it lasts.

Sounds like fun. Run in, pull somebody off the wall and back off safely with shield.

With 2 more classes with long ranged pulls, going to the edge of a wall is even more dangerous.

At least we have our mortars made from wet paper.

I made a guardian a couple weeks ago. Got bored at level 65 and now she’s just sitting there doing nothing.

Made a Mesmer yesterday and i’m having fun with that class so far.

I also made a warrior a long time ago. But warriors are soo unbelievably boring and bland, that i only got him to 20 before butting him back on the shelf.

Thing is, that i always come back to play my engineer. So no, i doubt i’d ever change classes. My engineer will always be my main man.

Oh well so much for this game

I had a feeling that this patch was going to be a load of crap.

The most positive change is a 2x increase on tool kits magnet ability? Are you serious? I’ve never seen a serious engineer even use the tool kit. And now that i think about it, i havn’t seen many engineers at all (/sarcasm I wonder why that is). At least maybe we could pull people off walls now.

By the way, thanks for the nerfs. That is no doubt the solution to a underpowered and underplayed class.

I’m not quite sure where this Warrior and Thief Wars 2 game is going.

I’ve always got my elixir gun on my utility bar. The amount of group support it gives + 5-20 seconds of weakness on any target is just too good to give up.

I switch over to my Pistol/shield for more conditions or when i want to utilise combo fields.

Pistols with coated bullets is all i needed.
Turrets help a bunch to. I’d place a rifle turret and a rocket turret on top of one of the tents at Jofasts waypoint and then just farm karma through Shelters Gate and Village Sayix.
I’m sure releived that i’m done with Orr.

I had a hard time leveling my engineer, at least compared to when i was playing my guardian and warrior. But i did some research and testing in the mists and found that the traits infused precision and invigorating speed had massively improved my survivability.
I just toughed it out till i hit level 30 and could pick both those traits up.
