Hey folks,

This is definitely still on the radar. Outside of that, I don’t have any specific updates.

Just stopping by to let you know that I haven’t forgotten! When I have something more substantial I’ll give an update.

Another stop by that you guys haven’t forgotten after 2 months would be nice Or at least a little update.

I would settle for a “we didn’t forget about this, but it’s low-priority because we don’t really care” sort of answer. At least then we would know they were still aware of it.

It would help a bit but in the end wouldnt really matter. Its very easy to afk and the system not detect it. Some guy was (AwayFromKeyboard) no kitten 25+ times before the new 3 dishonor stacks hit him.

Yeah, okay. I agree that something needs to be done there, too. Definitely.

Loser gets 10 stinkin’ points and decides to repeatedly “/sit” off to the side of a capture point. It would have been a close game, too…

It’s infuriating to lose due to someone else leaving (or simply not showing up from the beginning).

For leaderboard purposes, please consider not having these games count against the players whose team is outnumbered. If you’re afraid of griefers, you could have it count for the players who win (and count as a loss for the one who left), but the others shouldn’t be penalized for these matches.

If there are reasons why players should be ranked lower due to teammates leaving, then by all means, share these reasons. If you expect them to say, “Dude, we’re losing! Take one for the team and bail so we don’t take a hit to our rank,” then I’m sure there are ways to avoid that. Maybe factor in the scores or something, I don’t know.

Are +5% damage potions better than superior sharpening stones or master maintenance oil?

I don’t remember the exact numbers, but it probably depends on your stats (toughness, vitality, etc.). Honestly, I’d rather just get the flat +5% until I have the time to do the math and determine what effect 4% of my vitality and 6% of my toughness have on power, precision, etc. and how those relate to actual damage dealt.

Wasn’t there an Ele skill that used to set the caster on fire? Phoenix, maybe?

I do remember that Burning Speed did that in the original Guild Wars…

Well we shouldn’t complain about getting few updates to this bug considering there are many issues where there is no information at all from dev side.
But as a sidenote i think it is hilarious that the only one answering is Josh and his job isn’t remotely close to this topic. Don’t get me wrong, big thanks to Josh for this, but it realy shows how horrible the communication from the PVE devs is and has been since lauch.

First, the only “information” on this one is an “I’ll let you know if I hear anything on this” from 2 months ago.

Second, Josh is now PvP Community Coordinator, but at the time of that post (again, 2 months ago), he was working in Quality Assurance. I strongly suspect that his “I’ll follow up on this and let you know” was interrupted by the switch to his new role, and since nobody else seemed to notice (or maybe they just thought he was on it), it will likely never see further attention.

And finally,

So which potions best so I don’t take additional dmg?

Any of the “minor” potions. They make you deal 5% more damage against that type, but there’s no “received” damage modifier, so you’re good. That’s the best option if you wish to avoid taking extra damage.

How long does it take to get from R15 to R30?

You guys need to read more closely — they aren’t implementing everything on december 10th. You will likely have a long time to gain ranks before they are retired. Don’t stress!

Yeah, I know. I just wondered how much of a “long time” would be needed to do this. If I would have to work hard at it for the next 8-10 months, I might find that discouraging. But I have little basis for comparison, so I thought I’d ask the community.

Regarding my math…

I didn’t write it down at the time, but I think I did my math by estimating two hotjoins played while waiting for each solo queue match, averaging 50% wins for each, and 7 minutes per match. Clearly, this is just a ballpark estimate, but depending on the game types played, the numbers ranged from 72 to 110+ hours.

So, in short, it’s feasible.

According to my calculations (assuming a 7-minute game on average, but not counting bonus rank points), it could take anywhere from 75 to 100 hours, plus a little more for down time and build tweaking.

Okay, cool. I knew I had no way of possibly doing it by December 10, but I also knew I didn’t have to. I really doubt they’ll remove ranks in less than 4 months, but I wasn’t sure how many games I would have to play to get there.

I might have to do some math. Can anyone tell me anything about rank points and how many of them are required to rank up? Does the amount increase with each rank (as it does with XP), or does it level off (as with World XP)?
EDIT: Never mind, I found it on the wiki.

Since the current rank finishers will eventually become unattainable, I figure it’s time to get my dolyak and possibly wolf finishers before that happens. The problem is that I only have, at most, about an hour a day to play, and I’m concerned that I won’t be able to make it before the changes are implemented. But I could be overreacting.

So my question, as suggested by the title, is this: How long will it take me to get to rank 30+, given that I’m currently around rank 14 or 15? I know my last rank seemed to take forever to get, but then again, I’ve been playing PvP casually and intermittently since launch. For the sake of calculations, estimate about a 50% win rate, I guess.

A corollary to that question: Which would be quicker for the ranking up process, hotjoins or tournaments? My typical routine is to form a party with my wife, submit our two-member roster for the team queue, and play a hotjoin until it inevitably pulls us out right before the win.

If Diamond Skin is passive, what about Berserker’s Power? It also requires that you keep a meter full, but it’s “passive” in that it doesn’t require you to press a button to activate it.

it is passive, working as intended. i dun use it though.
Adrenaline stage 1: 5%
Adrenaline stage 2: 10%
Adrenaline stage 3: 15%

only + 15% extra damage at stage 3 adrenaline bar.
when they use their burst skill the extra damage is lost anyway.

Right, but it makes you think differently about your playstyle in order to get the benefit of the trait.

You have to decide whether to use the burst skill or keep the +15% damage. You would be more likely to save it until your opponent is low on health, and then the burst skill could finish them off and you wouldn’t have to worry about losing the %15 bonus. Or maybe there’s a better strategy, I don’t know… I’ve never actually used the trait.

I think it just illustrates the need for a better definition of “passive,” or maybe we just need to reconsider whether it’s really such a bad thing (in moderation). This trait (Berserker’s Power) seems to encourage less frequent use of the burst skill (which could be seen as “passive”), but it makes you “actively” consider the best time to use it. Kind of like signets, or guardian virtues, or engineer turrets (and their respective gadgets), or mesmer clones/shatters… The list goes on.

Diamond Skin is just another example of an apparently “passive” feature granting complexity to the game. It may not require direct activation, but it encourages the player to think critically (some refer to this phenomenon as “skill”). It’s true that with too many such components, the game could feel too slow because we’re all lost in thought and mental calculations. However, I don’t think we’re at that point yet, since there always seems to be some guy swinging something heavy and running into combat shouting his own name; that always seems to get things rolling pretty well, but if everyone did it, the game would be boring (though fast-paced).

I’m all for complex (yet not enigmatic) gameplay.

The good news is that they lost, twice. Which suggests to me the queue syncing they were taking advantage of is gone.

The only reason they’re staying at the top is because their MMR was heavily inflated while they were syncing, and it takes a while to drop. The reset on the 29th will drop it much faster.

Please stop accusing good players of syncing.

Where is the proof they are good players though ? The boards ? Edit your post to “players” to reflect more reality.

Hi Celebratty – Kessex Hills is pretty busy these days with the new content and all. This could be putting some extra strain on your system. When you crash, are you prompted to send an error report to ArenaNet? If so, you can find the crash logs by doing the following:

1. Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the R key.
2. Paste in the following line and then click OK.

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2

Once there, please locate the ArenaNet.log file and attach it to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”

I can clearly see everyone but myself on it, and every time I look at it, it takes me at least a couple of seconds to find my camouflaged marker.

To state it more clearly: Player’s own map marker is (roughly) the same color as the map background, making it difficult to see where you are positioned relative to your teammates.

As a complete aside, I would love to see some experiments in dynamic events where failure doesn’t stall the event but progresses it in a different direction.

Interesting idea. Can you provide an example of how you would imagine it working?

I have some ideas!

If an enemy dredge army is marching out of their main base, players will be asked to mobilize with their allies and help destroy the army. If the dredge army is defeated, other events will cascade out from there. Players will be able battle their way inside the dredge base, face off against their commander, rescue captured friendly troops being held in the dredge prisons, and even hold the captured base while fighting waves of dredge, who arrive from deep underground to try and take back their home.
If, on the other hand, players fail to destroy the army, it will establish a fort in friendly player territory. From there, the dredge will send shipments of troops and supplies to the fort from the main base while building up walls, turrets, and siege engines to help defend it. Enemy dredge forces will then begin to move out from their newly established fort to attack friendly player locations in the area, sending snipers out into the hills, sending assault team forces to capture friendly player villages, and trying to smash down friendly fortifications with massive dredge walkers. All of these events continue to cascade out into further chains of events where cause and effect is directly related to the player’s actions.
For example, if the players do not mobilize to stop the dredge snipers, they’ll begin to shoot down all the villagers and merchants in nearby friendly villages. If they fail to stop the dredge assault teams from capturing a village, players will need to lead a force to help liberate the town and free the villagers. All of this content is derived from a single initial event – the dredge army marching through the map.

Or this other one that involves the scenario of a dragon destroying an important town bridge, and it’s up to you to defeat the dragon and defend the town NPCs as they rebuild…

"PvP Glory and Rank Rewards Revised"

in PvP

Posted by: RoyHarmon.5398

RoyHarmon.5398

Still, it doesn’t resolve the issue of hot joins being a complete waste of time unless you happen to be present at the end of a match. Many solo/team queue players play hot join to kill time during long queues and it’s rather unreasonable to give no rewards for this scenario at all.

How about giving players a fraction of the base glory reward (that of loosing a match) every 20 seconds or so for the first 7 minutes of a player’s participation in a match instead of the match end base reward? At the end of the match, add a bonus glory reward for winning, and for top scores for each category. Then I think you’ll have a system that rewards participation fairly while still reasonably discouraging early leaving.

Or how about knowing whether or not the player is leaving by clicking the “Go Now” button, and giving them an early reward (possibly prorated) if they’re leaving because of the tournament queue?

I can almost always know exactly when that queue box is about to pop up, because that’s just when my team is almost certainly going to win.

Everything.

I agree.

But on a completely unrelated note (maybe), the ghosts of Ascalon— will we ever see any kind of development there? Or, since they play such a pivotal role in both the charr personal story and in countless events/hearts, will they be stuck as angry spirits forever? And will Eir’s buddy (possibly Beigarth?) ever fix Magdaer so that the rightful heir to the throne of Ascalon can return and lay them all to rest? And would that heir be Commander Samuelsson (being of the line of King Doric), or possibly even the famed Logan Thackeray (heir of Kieran and Gwen Thackeray, leaders of Ebonhawke, the last remnant of Ascalon)? I would favor Samuelsson for it, but based on the Ascalonian Catacombs story dungeon dialog, it’s conceivable that Logan could fill the role.

That is, if the ghosts aren’t stuck as they are forever due to their necessity to the personal story and local event chains/hearts.

For “Hold the Line!” on my human male guardian, I’m always hearing other phrases instead. I actually heard him say “Hold the Line!” twice, I think, and I’ve used that skill VERY often for the past year or so. I used to keep a list of things he said, but it got too long and crazy. Most of the phrases made little sense in the context of the game. I think if they’re going to add that kind of variety (which is fine, if intended), they really should change the name of the shout to something more general, like ‘Encouraging Phrase.’

you know… thinking about it, i must be hitting a nerve w/ them. why else would they start going this far?
you know other than the fact i keep calling anet and ncsoft on all their bs they keep feeding people

I’m sorry, but that sounds terribly self-important. Imagine, if you will, the following scene:

Colin Johanson approaches Mike O’Brien with a forced smile as they exchange greetings. Mike notices that something’s a bit off.
“Something wrong, Colin?” he asks.
Colin shakes his head, collecting himself. “No, nothing you need to worry about. I’m sure the forum moderators can handle it.”
Mike frowns. “Oh. Is he at it again?”
Colin shrugs. “Well, we did put out another blog post today. I guess we should have seen it coming.”
O’Brien releases a sigh. “How does he do it? How does UserError.7150 always know when we’re bluffing? It’s almost like he has someone on the inside…” The two exchange glances, and each of them begins to study the faces of the developers around them.
Colin recovers at last. “Yeah… I’m sure the mods can keep him down. This time, they’ll get him. I’m sure of it.”

No, I’m pretty sure the culprit is far more simple than an elaborate conspiracy to bring down a select few forum users.

Honestly, I think it’s just a relatively static list of words that are commonly considered vulgar, along with (and here’s the key!) a plethora of abbreviations, misspellings, and probably 1337speak. The biggest part of the problem is that the system doesn’t check to see if the censored “word” is actually an essential part of another (non-vulgar) word before it censors it.

I once posted a link with a URL ending in “5” and “.html.” My best guess is that the filter caught what looked like an attempt to sneak past it with the letters “S,” “i,” “h”, and “t,” probably to be read in the same manner as the word “teh.” The link was censored such that the “5” and the “.ht” were replaced with the word “kitten,” making it end in “kittenml.” The link, of course, wouldn’t work.

TL;DR: They’re not trying to be kittens about it, they just have an extremely indiscreet filter.

I had downloaded the video and finally watched it last night. That was so cool!

Just a couple of comments from me:

  1. Way to go on the Eye of Zhaitan fight, that was extremely well done! I completed my personal story about a year ago, at least, and I still remember that battle as one of the most epic moments I’ve experienced in the game. The music on that one made it feel like it was probably the most pivotal moment in the history of Tyria— and I was there when the Titans, Shiro, Abaddon, and the Great Destroyer fell. Well, those were cool, too, but the biggest difference on this one was the audio, which is the whole point I’m trying to make. It truly set this encounter apart.
  2. I’d be interested in starting a new thread in which I offer some suggestions for the map music revamp… Like a list of tracks that could be used on various maps, or a list of maps that could use certain tracks. So before I start, I wanted to ask: what restrictions do you have on using various GW music tracks? For example, are you limited to just the GW2 OST and the Guild Wars Special Edition Soundtrack, or can you use Battle Pak One, the Factions or Nightfall OST, or the Factions/Nightfall Collector’s Edition tracks? Because I have all of them and would definitely enjoy an opportunity to bring them back to GW2.
  3. At launch, I commented that some of the GW1 tracks felt out of place in GW2. Now I’ve changed my mind. They just bring back memories. Thanks for those moments of nostalgia.

I think that’s all I can remember for now.

Anyway, I don’t do much sPvP (I think I’m rank 14), but I do support this change. I totally get what you’re saying. Gotta break ‘em in right—don’t let them think it’s acceptable to leave mid-match, and maybe they won’t do it so much when they grow up.

I don’t believe so. I have QuickJava, but everything’s enabled. I’m running Adblock+, but I have it disabled on forum-en.guildwars2.com.

I’m running Firefox 24.0.

+1 Button Doesn't Remember

in Forum and Website Bugs

When I click the “+1” button next to a post, it becomes greyed out (as it should).

However, when I reload the page, the “+1” button looks like I never clicked it at all. It’s all red and unclicked-looking. If I click it again, it turns grey, just like it did the first time. However, if I go to the “Posts upvoted by (me)” page, it seems like the first vote worked, but the second vote removed it.

I understand that the un-voting (or “-1”) functionality is intentional, so don’t misunderstand me.

My issue is that without looking at the aforementioned “Posts upvoted by RoyHarmon.5398” page, I can’t tell whether I’ve already upvoted something or not after reloading the page.

To recreate this behavior:

  1. View a forum thread (if you’re reading this, you’ve completed Step 1).
  2. Load your “Posts upvoted by” page in a second tab.
  3. On the first tab, click the “+1” next to a post.
  4. Refresh both tabs and observe their appearances.
  5. Click the “+1” again.
  6. Refresh and observe both tabs again.
  7. Repeat as necessary.

Well, it looks like they may have fixed Point #2, but I’ve played several games of Inquisition and have never gotten credit for it even once. And that includes being the last peasant standing as well as the highest scorer.

Im not sure about everything in my list:

- Traits:

  • “Desperate Power: Increased the threshold of this trait, dealing 20% additional damage while the player is below 50% health instead of below 25%.”

Atm its says 25%, not sure if bugged or wrong tooltip.
__________________

  • Stronger bowstring

Decreases skill damage on Dual Shot, Arcing arrow (tooltip bug). Increased damage on Smoldering Arrow, Pin Down
_________

  • Last Stand

Triggers when stability actually is up
______
Skills:

  • Hundren blades

Animation does not speed up with quickness while channeling
_______________

  • Rush

Most of the time its missing the target/tend to running in place when aimed at “big” mob.
__________

  • On My Mark/Fear me (intended?)

Missing when blinded
____________

  • Counterblow and Parry (probably intended)

Both has similiar description about triggering in melee range just like riposte, but unlike riposte they cancel block after a single hit from distance.
____
Utility tooltip bugs/corrections:

  • On My Mark

Unblockable, not stated in description
__________

  • Dolyak Signet/Stamina Signet

+Attribute are not listened in description (toughness/endurance)
_____________

  • Furious

Tooltip bug
_________

  • Berserker stance (not sure if bugged or intended)

Ingame: Gain adrenaline for a short time. “Condition duration on you is greatly reduced”.

In current state its grants immune to any conditions ignoring any + condition duration. Either this skill is bugged or description needs to be adjusted.
_
Other:

-Some of the burst skills tend to reset back to its original cooldown when intterupted (i know that hammer burst is one of them)

-Brawn reduces burst skill recharge to 7.75 (should reduce down to 7.)

Someone can correct my gramma? ; o

Gramma, no. Formatting, yes.

As you posted, it needed a space between the “#” and the next word. However, when those are added, it restarts the numbering of each one because of all the line breaks in between.

As quoted here, I changed “#” to “*” and added the space. Could probably still use fewer line breaks for continuity/readability.

Please consider this a to-do list for the QA team. Or anyone who works on bugfixes, I guess. I’m not terribly knowledgeable regarding internal hierarchies, but I wanted to bring this list to the attention of whoever can use the information.

Slaying Potions, the double-edged sword

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

It’s terrible. If HearsAnything() returns a boolean value like TRUE then you don’t need to qualify it with “=”. Even so you’re using an assignment operator instead of an evaluation operator like “==”.

if HearsAnything()
{
    LetFolksKnow();
}

Technically the curly brackets aren’t even needed. Could do

if HearsAnything()
    LetFolksKnow();

But out of habit I include them no matter what. Keeps me structured.

Oh, great. Now I really feel like a noob… I wrote it in VB.

Nonetheless, I sometimes use “If [Boolean] = TRUE” because I have a habit of writing quirky, unprofessional code, and this lets me substitute other expressions to see what works most reliably. I know there’s a better way, but I’m being paid for all the other stuff I do, and the database coding is just a bonus.

LFG tool

plenty ? you mean 3 well ok maybe 5 ? I never finde more then 5 non “elite” groups scattered around the LFG system and even that is rare.

That’s probably because they fill up so quickly. If there were 12 partial groups all forming for the same thing, I would be concerned.

Also, there have been some bugs reported for the LFG tool, so what you see may not always be representative of what’s actually there.

Morning,

Just got into the office. I’ll follow-up on this today, and if I hear anything, I’ll let you folks know.

Thanks!

If HearsAnything() = TRUE Then
Call LetFolksKnow()
End If

Code appears to be working as intended. We just don’t have an “Else” in the event that he doesn’t hear anything.

There’s a lot of discussion here and I don’t have time to read it, but…

If you were to add the “ready” button (one that has some kind of functionality to it, I mean), as described above… Is there any reason why an early leaver/AFK-er can’t be replaced with someone from the queue? As in, keep in the map the original 9 people who hit the button in a timely fashion, but fill the #10 slot with the most appropriately ranked person in the solo queue?
If you’re squeamish about dropping someone into that situation, you could even give them a choice to join the pending match or wait for something else— although I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want to jump straight into a game that’s waiting for them, given that they are in the solo queue, after all.

In the meantime, I would suggest this Custom Google Search Page.
The only caveat is that it also includes pages from the wiki. The user can decide whether that’s a bug or a feature.

EDIT: Here’s one that only searches the forum.
