and the stupidest grown-ups who are the most grown-up.”

Has nobody else thought the same about this?
As hilarious as it is to see deer attacking players, it seems more realistic for them to flee.
I understand that not all creatures would choose flight over a fight (dolyaks, perhaps, or possibly some breeds of moa), but really… Deer? Fireflies? Salmon? These animals aren’t exactly the rough-and-tumble sort.
I think it is also important to consider that difficulties in targeting can often accidentally turn these creatures hostile in the middle of a fight, which results in a skittish woodland creature charging into battle with a human and a burly monstrosity of some sort. It’s just not natural!
Speaking of natural, it is interesting to see wolves, stalkers, and similar creatures attacking their prey, only to have the prey fight back (and sometimes win). I think it would be more appropriate for the prey to attempt flight, at least with creatures known for their scampering-off abilities (the deer example works well here).
Finally, I sometimes fall from cliffs, tower walls, and slightly large boulders. It’s just a problem I have, and I can’t seem to stop. I took a guardian trait to reduce the damage, but when I land next to a neutral creature, I frighten it so badly that it starts attacking me! I assume it’s the Symbol of Protection that suddenly appears, but honestly, shouldn’t this whole encounter spook the poor thing into running away, rather than turning to fight?
TL;DR: Neutral creatures based on herbivorous/prey species should prefer to run away when attacked, not fight back.
It’s set up that way because elementalists have the option of switching attunements. As I understand it, there are some air-related abilities that would give you swiftness without changing weapons. Perhaps those might be worth pursuing? Especially this one.
When my guardian falls, he forms a Symbol of Protection. Unfortunately, this really upsets any neutral creatures below.
I suppose it’s a little more realistic, considering how few animals in the real world would appreciate being fallen upon, but I think their usual reaction is more of a “shriek and run away” kind of thing.
For that matter, most of them would probably respond that way when you shoot at them or whack them with maces, but in Guild Wars 2, they take the offensive and try to eat you instead. But that’s not related to falling damage, so I might just put that in another thread.
I don’t suppose there’s been any progress on this issue?
I loved this line! I laugh at it again every time I hear her say it. It’s just so endearing! Heh… little tail, wagging in her heart… Classic!
EXACTLY!!! It’s been making it nearly impossible for my girlfriend and I to play in a party. It’s rather frustrating to have to constantly ask “Where are you now?”. If we are get out of eyesight of one another , say she goes to grab a vista I already have, her “dot” is gone. The (shift+click) to draw on the map doesn’t display either. I’ve only been playing PvE.
Actually, I just checked it again on my lunch break, and my wife and I were able to see each other on the map and even enter an instance together.
It was crazy messed up last night (between 6pm and 9 pm CDT), so I don’t know whether this is a result of last night’s updates or simply off-peak hours. I’ll know for sure tonight when I get home from work.
Forgot to report back on this last night, but my wife and I were able to do several personal storyline instances together yesterday. I think there may have been a time or two when her portrait went dark on my screen, but the blue dot on the map worked properly the whole time. Never once were we separated when trying to enter the same map; the game was fun again!
I also noticed that I was able to access the guild bank again, and everything seemed to work much better on the whole.
Total noob here. I’ve done what the guide said, but I’ve got an HD 6670 card and I have no idea awhat settings to use. Can ya help me out here? Thanks.
I just tried this with a 6670, and I saw a huge improvement.
Here are the settings I used:

The chatter system that handles things like greets and combat VO needs some frequency tweaking. It’s relatively simple to do, and it’s on our radar for polish stuff.
If there are scenes triggering near certain vendor NPCs, we should probably move them farther away.
Thanks!
While you’re moving things farther away, be aware that there are issues causing the dialogue to be really loud when the speaking NPC is out of view but still in earshot.

chain lightning currently hits yellow mobs as well. anet fix please.
I think just about everything does. “Binding Blade” is always fetching me some sort of surprised/annoyed wildlife.
Yes! That started happening again for me and my wife on Monday, which (coincidentally) was the day they reopened the buy.guildwars2.com sales. To the best of my recollection, there may have been a few tweets encouraging players to “wait a little while and try again, the site is really busy right now.”
The most annoying thing about it is that I tell her, “I see your dot on the map, I’m just south of you. Come revive me,” and she ends up on the far southern end of the zone because I kept telling her to go south. As it turns out, that dot on my map was just the last place we saw each other before the portrait again went black and the server apparently had no idea where we were in relation to each other.
No, wait…
The MOST annoying thing about it is that when this happens, it’s nearly impossible to join each other in an instance. We’ve been playing our personal storylines together (mostly with different plots, yielding more variety), and it went really well once they shut down buy.guildwars2.com for a week and a half. This past weekend was fabulous. However, ever since Monday, we haven’t been able to party up at all. Well, with the exception of having the empty portrait displayed on the left-hand side of the screen for easy mail-addressing, and the altogether unused party chat (we’re sitting right next to each other, after all).
The WvW map did seem to work fine, however, once we finally got in. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet discovered the key to enjoying this particular aspect of the game… Whenever my character encounters a single invader, that location suddenly becomes the center of an angry swarm of murder-bees. But that’s off-topic.
I’m always noticing the contradiction when I’m trying to get away from someone who stuns me. My guardian shouts, “Retreat!” and “Stand your ground!” or vice versa.
Oh, and remember, it’s a bad day to buy wine. But it’s a great day to drink it!
Yes these are most annoying things. Targetting should happen on mouse click, not on mouse press, as I use mouse to move, not to target. When I use mouse to pan, it messes the target to random player instead of keeping it on the enemy I chose.
And shooting neutral mobs automatically is annoying. For example when a mob walks away and I don’t shoot it anymore. Then I walk a bit and suddenly I start automatically shooting the mob again, even though I didn’t want to shoot it anymore.
All of this.
Also, be careful with “Promote Skill Target,” especially in conjunction with “Auto-target.” I’ve been running around, looking for the nearest enemy (which, with the current system, happens to be a golden moa rather than the zombie pirate behind it), when I used a shout (usually “Retreat!”) to make myself go faster or recover from combat. Apparently, I used that skill on the current (originally non-aggressive) target, so then I start auto-attacking it due to the promotion of the skill target.
With any luck, it’s a bug that will be fixed before the moa population suffers more than it has.

By “flicker” I don’t mean low-FPS choppiness—just a randomly occuring white flicker that happens once in a while. My FPS are great…just have this little glitch. Anyone else? Workarounds?
(i7-930 @ 4.0 GHz, AMD 7970)
I have a random flicker problem, but it usually seems to go away when I set the shadows to “medium” or higher. If that doesn’t fix it, I toggle v-sync. One of those fixes it for me, and then I just set things back to the way they were to improve my frame rate (generally in the 45-55 fps range). After a while, it will come back, and I’ll repeat the process.
(Phenom II X4 910 @ 2.86 GHz, AMD 5570 x2)
Last night, my guardian nearly died right before completing the monthly experience survivor achievement… because the C-button (my “closest enemy” hotkey) kept targeting marmoxes (marmoxen?) instead of the ogre brutes attacking me.
I understand why DEs around Tyria give karma. That makes sense to me.
What I don’t understand is why helping other people with their personal stories doesn’t award karma any more. Isn’t going out of our way to do something for someone else what karma is all about?
Very well said.
I’ve had this happen only recently (noticed it over the weekend), but I didn’t have my sound turned up loud enough to deafen me. It usually just resulted in a confused search for an unseen speaker.
I don’t suppose there’s an unofficial work-around for this yet?
Well almost all of the FX processors are Black Edition with unlocked multiplier… So why bother buying one if you are not going to overclock it^_^ when you O/C they perform quite well for what they worth tho
I also mention this game almost unplayable on Phenom II’s.
It’s pretty playable on my Phenom II X4 910 with two Radeon HD 5570s (note: I really mean 5570s, not 5770s). I don’t have everything maxed out, but with moderate video settings, I get at least 40-50 fps.

My wife and I had this same problem. We didn’t die, but we did try leaving and restarting it once.
The first time through, we killed everything but two nightmare hounds at the end (the ones earlier in the instance were still killable). The second time, we had the same problem, but it also extended to several spiders.
We finally resolved the issue (for us) by leading them away from the area where they spawned. After leaving that circle, they became vulnerable again and our progress continued.
I’ve also noticed this with the trees, but I thought maybe it was a different grade of tool and never gave it a second thought. Hadn’t paid attention to the axes on the ore nodes, though.
The Whisperers skins are intended to be only acquired if you join the Order of Whispers, but unfortunately a handful of the skins were set up in core loot drops. In the other night’s patch, we fixed this bug and converted the existing weapons into the intended skin. If you acquired the weapon through the intended means (joining the Order and purchasing the exclusive skin), those weapons were not affected by the fix. Only the ones that were erroneously dropped as core loot were affected. Apologies for the mistake! If you loved the skin, I highly recommend selecting the Order of Whispers through your personal story and you’ll be able to acquire it again.
Will the item be soulbound? Because I’ve already chosen the Vigil for my guardian, but I really liked that Whisperer mace. And from what I’ve read, we’re not likely to get an option to replay the personal storyline (not that I would do so just for the weapon skin, but I thought it worth pointing out anyway).
Yeah, and why have I not received a drop of karma for helping my wife through her personal storyline? I was getting it a few days ago, but now we’ve gone through several (3+) instances and I haven’t gained anything but a few item drops, mostly crafting materials and junk. Is there any reward at all now for helping others with the personal storyline, aside from camaraderie?
Yeah! And it counts neutrals as enemies… I can’t tell you how many moas have lost their lives due to a targeting error.
I can see why someone could want this, but it should really be a setting. Most of the time I don’t want to target neutrals. Those poor moas, yes.
I agree wholeheartedly.
I have seen cases in which one of the goals of a task (formerly “renown heart”) was to kill grubs, mosquitos, or other neutrals, and some might want it for that.
Personally, those are such a minority for me, it would be far easier to click them myself. More often, I’m fighting a Son of Svanir or three, and instead of targeting that guy throwing stuff at me, it targets the moose next to me. Then I’m fighting three Sons of Svanir and a very agitated moose.

My wife and I tried this. We ended up switching back.
In case it helps anyone, the influence points and upgrades were still there when we switched back.
But I agree, it would be nice if this system worked differently.
I know I was totally defeated when she tried Glyph of Renewal on me (falling damage), but I can’t remember for sure on Signet of Mercy. I tried it on two different occasions (the recharge was too long to justify waiting to try it again), and all I can remember for sure is that 1.) there was nobody else nearby to accidentally revive, 2.) I was standing right next to her both times (well within range), and 3.) I targeted her the second time, but not the first. I just can’t remember whether she was downed or defeated; if it weren’t for the fact that I was using the skill specifically to try it out, I would say she must have been defeated, since downed players revive quickly enough that I wouldn’t bother with the skill. On both occasions, I believe, I had arrived on the scene just in time to finish off whatever had caused the condition. I’m not sure which condition that was, though, and now I’m tempted to try it out when I get home tonight (because the situation will undoubtedly come up again).
It failed on me the first time, but if I remember correctly, it actually worked the second time (when I targeted the party member). Probably just a fluke on that one, though.
I noticed that my wife’s Glyph of Renewal didn’t work at all, much as you described above. She tried it a couple of times to revive me, and then she had me try it to be sure she was doing it right. She was, but it didn’t work. Perhaps this problem runs a little deeper than one skill.
Is your inventory full?
Yeah! And it counts neutrals as enemies… I can’t tell you how many moas have lost their lives due to a targeting error.
I’m really surprised this didn’t come up in all their testing. Surely someone made a human elementalist who made it past level 30 and explored underwater.
At first I thought it could be a balance issue, and that someone— somehow— might have thought, “You know, elementalists have such awesome skills underwater already, why do they need an elite?”
I see now, however, that this is only an issue with humans. All other races have racial elites underwater. Perhaps this explains why it was (presumably) overlooked for so long, and by the time anyone noticed, they probably had higher priorities or something.
Surely they’ll fix this soon, as they’ve already stated that they don’t want your choice of race to be affected by the racial skills (in terms of balance, at least). As it stands, the obvious choice for an elementalist would be “anything but human.”
