Has anyone else had a much more difficult time dodging through the spike traps throughout Path 1? Were they intentionally changed to trigger when dodging through them? I apologize if this has been asked before, but it’s hard to search the forum for “AC traps” and not end up with a flood of “Path 2” and “Detha.”
Also, have the Spider Queen’s poison circles always been undodgeable as well? Maybe I just didn’t notice it before, but our group wiped on the queen several times last night when she was the only enemy around. A couple of times, she actually followed us back up the stairs (we were attempting retreat, not luring) and into the spike traps there, and these two issues combined were enough to wipe us all over again.
We never actually made it to the Howling King. It was disheartening, as we were not as inexperienced a group as this post would make us seem.
Welcome your new quagan overlords the march of Quagga has begun OOOOoooOOO
That’s amazing.
I’ve managed to beat this with a L10 thief, elementalist, and engineer, so I don’t think it’s “impossible.” … I found Elixer B to be quite helpful for taking Howler down, since it boosts your damage and hurts her every time she hits you.
Is it anything like the issues described in this thread? I thought I heard it was “fixed” in a patch some months ago, but since I also read patch notes that said champions should always drop loot, I haven’t bothered with nicknames in months.
Now, if I don’t interact with someone frequently enough to remember them, I realize that they probably see me in exactly the same way. I’m nice to them and ask them to do a dungeon or something when we need more for our group, and sometimes they do the same.
Nope! RNG is RNG. No special character flags for loot. Nothing loot related was changed with maintenance, but that never stops people from making these posts after every single maintenance about it.
Perhaps if the “maintenance” were explained a bit more, people would speculate a bit less. Of course there will still be speculation, but less of it, because we’ll have at least some idea of what actually happened. “No content changes” doesn’t really mean much to us, but “fixed some back-end Trading Post issues,” or “unstuck some events,” or “resized some tables in anticipation of upcoming changes,” or even just “rebooted the servers” would be better than “maintenance only. No content changes.”
There is no reason to have a password list in plain text to compare it
Read again. To compare for similar, not identical, passwords you need it. Because this cannot be done with hashes.
If the passwords are not allowed, you could freely post them to all the world to see and give them to all of the hackers.
No. Because users use the same passwords for various services, no matter how often you tell them that they shouldn’t. So a leak of a plain text password blacklist would actually reveal a huge list of valid passwords to the hacker. And saying “we told you to use a unique password” doesn’t make this legal. Maybe in the US, seems you can regulate anything in EULAs there, German data protection acts are stricter.
I thought the whole point of the blacklist was that the hackers already have those passwords?
I agree with everyone here. Well, except for Qiko, but that’s just because I don’t actually have any music that I like better than this. To each his own.
I can’t name my favorites, because when I do, the list is too long. But in addition to those listed above, I think “Bear’s Spirit” stands out. As well as “Hope Falls.” And now I feel like I’m just naming the ones whose names I can remember without looking, so I’ll stop there.
I think the blacklist was more expansive than you believe. My password was not used for any other game or site, was randomly generated and contains a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers.
I have a second account that used a different password, with similar characteristics. With the mandatory password change coming up, I decided to swap the passwords for the two accounts, so I wouldn’t have to learn new, complex passwords.
Each password was blacklisted.
So, I generated a new password, intending to just use the same password for both accounts. The new password worked with the first account, but when trying to apply it as the new password for the second account, it came up as blacklisted.
Apparently, in addition to a blacklist of “hacker compromised” passwords obtained from online sources, you guys also blacklisted all existing GW2 passwords, whether they were on “hackers lists” or not, plus are also instantly adding new passwords to the black list, so that no two accounts can contain the same password.
To me, that’s going way too far and doesn’t make much sense unless someone at Arenanet was concerned that stored GW2 passwords had been compromised at some point in the past.
It could be the extra security measures kicking in. See this post for details. It’s referring to attempted password changes for a single account, but maybe (and I obviously don’t know, just guessing) there’s something triggering because you’re changing two passwords in a relatively short amount of time from the same location, much like a gold seller (read: account thief) would. No offense intended.
However, now that I read through your post again, I seem to recall something about old passwords going on the blacklist. I would recommend adding a word somewhere in the passwords. It could be a short word, like “the” or something, inserted where it wouldn’t be hard to remember. Maybe a number or two, whichever is easiest for you to remember. Or possibly some shift in capitalization (no pun intended).
I just looked into this. The problem is that you currently only earn the sword if you have exactly 10 HoM points. It might be too late for us to get a fix in for the Feb 26th build, but a fix will be coming.
No offense but this is bs. We have mentioned this bug literally one million times since the game came out and you are just now looking into this? PvP side of things over there is relatively slow and that is an understatment. Yet you guys are so quick to fix other bugs that actually gave us incentive to pvp. I am referring to dragon tokens/bear/shark etc…
Wow. Literally one million times? How could anyone miss that? It should be the first thing in Google’s search suggestions when anyone types “fi…” Oh, wait. There it is. Huh, imagine that.
And hold on just a moment. Are you telling me that someone in PvP is able to use a bear holding a shark (bear-shark)? That explains why I keep dying. That thing is so OP!
(Note to moderators: I would like someone to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of having the number 145 preceding “.html” in a hyperlink filtered to “14kittenml.” Honestly, that’s really reaching.)
And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’
(Matthew 20:11-15 ESV)
Don’t worry about what others pay. If you think they cost you too much, don’t buy them. If you’re willing to pay 10€ for it, then do so.
And for what it’s worth, right now $10 + 20% = 9€. Are you really going to argue over 1€? How many euros do you earn in an hour? Convert that 1€ into time spent arguing on the forum. Then, when that time is up, move on.
No green text. No green star on the map. All there is is the “this is my story” intro on the hero interface; and then zilch.
Did you already try walking out of The Grove into Caledon Forest?
All characters start at step 1 of the story, so I’m not seeing how it’s possible to simply ignore it and have no story.
Wasn’t there a bug a while back for characters that skipped out of the tutorial area via Heart of the Mists?
Sorry if that’s dredging up something old that no longer applies.
From what I recall, the answer at the time was that they fixed it so that walking outside updated your story step. But I do remember a developer response stating that once you left the tutorial instance, it wasn’t possible to go back. They may have changed that since then, or maybe the original statement was a simplification of a complex solution.
Either way, it should be fixed now.
I noticed something in all screen shots, it looks like most of the people reporting lines are using the “small user-interface” setting, I have had issues with text rendering in small ui setting switch to normal and issues might clear up…idk just trying to help out.
I have the line problem on “Normal” UI size with my HD 6770. The only text rendering problems I’ve seen were on the “Large” UI setting, which is disappointing to me because for my monitor setup, “Large” would otherwise be perfect. For some reason, it makes the “-” character display as something like “É.”
The thing is that we are all tired of promises…Scavenger hunt, mounts, NO FRIGGIN LAG, precursors cheaper, no grinding(I actually like this, but you promised that we wouldnt have it), and etc etc etc
Really? We were promised mounts? When was that?
It wouldn’t be hard to add “mounts”. Just make a costume weapon slot (like the broom) that has bonus move speed. It already will automatically disable when you enter combat because of how “town clothes” work so what’s the problem?
As mentioned in an above post, consider the camera, for example. What would happen to the camera angle when a norn tried to ride anything through a relatively narrow corridor?
Rhetorical reply:
“Well, they just wouldn’t be useable in tight places.”
How would one code that, exactly? A larger hit box? How big would you have to make it to account for low ceilings but not get stuck on a street sign or overhead lamp?
Or would you simply go through every map in the game and paint certain places as impassable?
This is just one of the challenges to overcome before mounts could be added.
But to focus on your suggestion specifically…
Just make a costume weapon slot (like the broom) that has bonus move speed.
So you’re saying we could just buy a permanent, out-of-combat speed boost? Something to let my ranger take “Signet of the Hunt” off of the skill bar?
Woohoo! Another skill slot! How many gems do those cost? I want one for my ranger, one for my elementalist, one for my necromancer…
Hey, wait. I have a better idea, one that doesn’t require camera system adjustments. Why don’t they just make everyone move faster? Only outside of combat, of course. Increased out-of-combat movement speed would be awesome!
Captain Obvious:
“We already have that!”
Oh.
Wait, why do we need mounts, again?
Hey guys this does appear to be a known issue with HD 7000 series cards that is currently being looked into. At this time there is no workaround currently available. Sorry for any inconvenience!
I’m also seeing lines, but I use a Radeon HD 6770 (Catalyst 13.2 Beta 5), so I think it also affects the HD 6000 series. I haven’t tried it on any HD 5000 cards, but since my HD 6770 is only slightly different from an HD 5770, it may affect some of those as well.
Your friend can guest on your server. Of course that means he cannot participate in WvW, but it would get you together. Alternately, since he’s a new player, perhaps you and his other friends could take up a collection to help him pay for the transfer?
(Deleting the characters would not provide a free world transfer.)
Anet really should change this. If someone is just starting out and mistakenly starts on the wrong server, deleting that character and remaking should allow them to chose the right server. After all, you have no characters to be on a server at that point.
Exactly my thoughts, and the reason I ask for clarification.
While I concede that my perspective is limited, I can’t see how anyone could exploit it if deleting characters enabled free transfers. I mean, even if there were an advantage to be gained, wouldn’t deleting the characters defeat the purpose of exploiting it?
And if it’s about spies in WvW (because I know someone will say it), who is so dedicated that they’ll delete all of their characters just to switch for espionage? They’d get no benefit from it whatsoever. And if they wanted to benefit from it, they’d just buy a second account, but buying transfers with gems would be cheaper. Especially when you consider that the NA servers seem pretty stable in the rankings.
If deleting characters doesn’t enable a free transfer, I see no reasons why it shouldn’t,* and plenty of reasons why it should. Well, really just that one reason (see quote), but I think it’s a very, very good one.
* Increased gem demand could be considered a reason against allowing the free transfer for
character-less accounts, but I like to think the kind folk at Arenanet are above such base motivations.
A mistake? Sometimes some people err.
Right. If that’s the case, I could understand. I’m not here to criticize.
I just wanted clarification.
Don’t need to tell you how that ended.
…Because we’ll find out in a few years when we see it for ourselves?
You can delete all the characters on the account and then change servers for free. The transfer costs only kick in for accounts with characters on them.
How should we interpret this?
People like you make me laugh and cause my brain to hurt thinking about what’s going through your mind, sorry, but seriously?
Waypoints are a better way of exploring the world because it takes you there instantly, Wtf? How can that even be possible. So, me spending 5 mins running through orr thinking “Oh wow that looks epic over there, i’ll head there now” is exploring the game less then me saying “I just spend 2s to travel here instantly and everything that is between that waypoint and this waypoint, was just skipped. So sorry anet, but I just missed that beautiful view you created, I just skipped past that amazing event you spent hours creating and testing, but hey it’s okay because I get to explore your loading screens, just not your maps.”
Anet say they can go back and add more events, well you have to find the events first, how are you going to manage that when you’re waypointing everywhere through the game? Will the loading screen tell me there is a new event in a hidden part of the map that no waypoint will take me near? No, I didn’t think so, but atleast if I have to run past that area on foot, or on a mount I will have a much greater chance of exploring that area.
Part of your comment was "When I explore in GW2, it’s more like, “What’s over there? I’m going to find out!” It’s not about the destination in GW2; it’s the journey. " So tell me, when am I suppose to think “Hey what’s over there”? When i’m on the loading screen? When i’m opening my map to select the waypoint I want to travel to? Maybe after i’ve just skipped that map completely to get the the area south of that place.
Now i’m not saying if mounts should be in this game or not, but the fact that they shouldn’t because it takes away exploration in the game is stupid. Even having a mount with 75% increases speed is going to be more exploration then 30 seconds in a loading screen.
But add mounts to the game, just make them like the riding broom, make them cosmetic. The idea that my character can run across the whole of tyria on foot without any rests starts to hurt my feet, let alone my poor warriors feet.
I think you missed most of what I said. Or maybe you think exploration means the same thing as travel. I travel for about an hour each workday, but I rarely see anything new or exciting. After years of the same scenery, it’s a rare thing for a vista to make me stop and admire the view.
Exploration and discovery, for most people, aren’t synonymous with the morning commute. You explore the unknown, you discover things you’ve never seen before. Waypoints can’t be used until you discover them.
I argued that going slower— not using waypoints— was a better way to explore than riding on a mount, primarily because you were able to slow down and enjoy the view. When I run around Tyria, I stop and talk to NPCs. They have interesting dialogue. I often get caught up in dynamic events and the like because I meander so much in the beautiful environment of Guild Wars 2.
And no, I don’t spend much time on loading screens while exploring. Those are shown only when changing maps or using waypoints. I change maps only infrequently while exploring, and I can’t use waypoints that I haven’t discovered yet.
i WOULD KILL for mounts its basic thing you know the knight arives on his horse to slay the dragon in any story
Yeah, any story about a lazy knight… You know, the kind who’s only in it for the money and fame. A real knight charges that dragon on foot! Or maybe in a batmobile, but that’s a knight of a different color. I guess in our case, the knight arrives on a honking AIRSHIP to slay the dragon.
Really, guys. Stop thinking so small. Horses, dolyaks, and other mythical beasts? We already have magical teleportation conduits for general use and airships to ride when we go dragonslaying. Why would you want to downgrade?
Lack of mounts is one of the reasons I absolutely hate traveling in GW2. Get rid of 90% of all waypoints and give us mounts. Then we’ll talk about exploration.
I don’t think I understand. Why do you hate traveling, and how would mounts do more to alleviate that than waypoints already do? The only difference I see is that waypoints are instantaneous but have to be discovered first. Do you not like to discover them? Is that why you want to discuss exploration?
Or do you just want to move faster? If so, why? This game is beautiful; I love to slow down and appreciate it. (Also, “exploration” would be over pretty quickly if we could all zip around like stylish blue hedgehogs.)
It feels like there’s so much more to the game than going from Point A to Point B. I don’t think I’ve ever sat down at my keyboard in GW2 and thought, “I’m going to go to that spot, way over there! I’ll run to it as fast as I can,” though I can’t say the same about GW1. When I explore in GW2, it’s more like, “What’s over there? I’m going to find out!” It’s not about the destination in GW2; it’s the journey.
If you absolutely must go faster, then try a speed-boosting skill. Rangers, thieves, elementalists, and necromancers all have a 25% speed boost signet, and I’m pretty sure the other classes all have some form of swiftness (+33% movement speed). Would a mount provide some kind of utility aside from speed boosts? What would they do in combat? It seems like the only thing they could do is complicate things.
Or do you mean something more akin to the sand wurms in GW1? I don’t know about anyone else, but for me, the novelty of riding in a wurm wore off pretty quickly.
If you simply want some creature to accompany you everywhere you go, try a miniature. Or a pet, a minion, a spirit weapon… Or another player.
From what I see, there just isn’t a reason anyone needs to ride something in this game. Am I missing something? Is there some other reason to want a mount in GW2?
Technically the tinfoil hat would view your character as a mount, so it’d be an easy way for us to get mounts in game.
We might even have concept art for it….
<-Troll.
Please implement the possibility of taking your mini’s for a piggyback ride. Eir Stegalkin really doesn’t have a good view from down there.
I think it would be totally in-character for a miniature Rytlock Brimstone to ride a player.
Or a unicorn. Whichever.
Never mind. My motherboard died last weekend and I’ve finally replaced it, so now that I use my mouse again, I’m also noticing occasional lag. Mine was in the Ascalonian Catacombs, though, and I didn’t notice it as much after I closed the Logitech Gaming Software window. In fact, I didn’t notice it until I opened that window to adjust some key bindings. Do you have the mouse settings window open while you play?
I can’t get it to work. Do you have to leave Bandicam running the whole time? I’ve tried it either way with no success…
Any suggestions?
I sometimes have trouble getting the game profile to load properly if I don’t set the option to “Lock profile while application is in use,” or however it’s worded in the profile properties. Given the quirks of the software, I would also suggest trying the same function on a non-Shifted button to see if the problem still occurs.
You may have already tried troubleshooting it as a hardware issue (USB ports, drivers, etc.), but if not, it couldn’t hurt. Given the lag you describe, I wonder if there could be some interference between the USB mouse and the network card. If you haven’t already done so, try plugging the G600 into another USB port, preferably the one that connects to the motherboard farthest from the network card— especially if that network card is integrated. It may not be related, but it’s always better to check, right?
Since you only saw it in sPvP combat and not in the Heart of the Mists, I wonder if it could be some kind of conflict with other keys you could be pressing. For instance, in combat, are you holding down the “Ctrl” or “Alt” keys? Using WASD to move? Maybe there’s some combination that’s causing a glitch somehow… Something that isn’t happening in the lobby area. When you tested it in the Heart of the Mists, were you moving around while pressing the weapon swap button on your mouse? Were you fighting anything, or just standing still and pressing only that mouse button? Try again and test different combinations; maybe there’s some indicator to be found in the lists of what works and what doesn’t.
I also use a G600, with the “G-Shift™” + tilt wheel to swap my weapons (tilt wheel alone strafes left and right). Other functions include binding the F key to G11, “Esc” to “G-Shift” + G11, [I]nventory and [H]ero panel to G7 and G-Shift + G7, skills 1-9 on G12-G20, and so on.
I’ve been having no mouse-specific issues, although I have noticed a bug that seems to make the character unresponsive in some situations. Could this be related?
I also remember seeing a thread a few weeks ago regarding picking up bundles or interacting with things while running. It made the character basically unresponsive while running in that direction for about three or four more seconds. A developer (I can’t remember which) said they’d look into it and try to patch it soon. Maybe this is issue is related to that one somehow?
If you swap out the mouse or use a regular keyboard button to swap weapons and you still have this problem, I would think that might indicate an issue with the game client, possibly one of the bugs I mentioned above. If you find that pressing a key (I think ` is the default) to swap weapons works flawlessly, then I would check the settings for your G600 in the Logitech Gaming Software program.
Yeah, I’ve also been having this problem since the January update. Did they try to patch the “interactions while running = several seconds of unresponsive autorun” bug and inadvertently started this one? I obviously don’t have access to the technical details, but that’s my best (uneducated) guess. I’d be happy to see a better-informed post from a developer on this, but in lieu of that, I’ll take a bug fix.
Other than adjustments to Orr rewards (as covered in the release notes) the only change made in this patch to over-all loot was allowing high level characters who are playing in lower level zones the opportunity to earn top level gear to provide greater rewards. (as also covered in the release notes)
There are no “stealth nerfs”, any changes will be covered directly in the release notes, of which there are none.
I think it would be helpful if the release notes gave a better explanation sometimes.
“The game client was updated for maintenance purposes only, no content changes were made” isn’t really an explanation. What kind of “maintenance”? Did you have to change the oil? Rotate the tires? Add support for a monthly achievement? Smack Orr with a nerf bat? We have no idea.
Abstracts are tiny, but summaries are not. In this case it’s the type of summary that details your plans for your research, not the summary afterwards.
Ah, I see. The 10 pages include both abstract AND summary. I read it wrong.
I’ll need a 10 page abstract and summary details your methods first.
A ten-page abstract? I guess I’m not an economist, but all the abstracts I’ve seen were more in the <500 word range.
I haven’t actually seen a chest yet but I got more than normal blues and greens from trash mobs and an unholy amount of crafting materials
also killed 2 Dragons today as well as Shadow Behemoth.
The dragons had yellows and exotic crests, Behemoth had greens and yellows.
Wow, that’s far better than we fared last night at some events in northern Wayfarer Foothills (just prior to the developers explaining that the Living Story wouldn’t start until today). I had one blue, maybe 3 whites, and around two dozen junk items (including 18 Needles).
My wife didn’t even get that much.
Couple thoughts:
If 3 people are split up, all could transfer to a low pop server (lower gem cost).
This only exists in Europe.
I understand what you’re suggesting, but remember that we had months of free transfers. It seems to me that once the decision is made to make a change, there must be a “start date” and, after communicating what is coming, the change should be implemented. That is what happened here.
If we were to say “Everyone gets one more free transfer” for how long do we offer that? (And what do we say to the player who comes back a week after that period and asks for special accommodation?) How do we message a change?
- Emailing? For everyone who suggests that, another say “Stop spamming my email account!”
- Social media? For everyone who says “Yes” another says, “I refuse to read Facebook or Twitter.”
- Log-in screen? We do that, but apparently players don’t read it.
- Website or Blog? Yep, we do that, too, but again, not everyone reads it.
So while I understand why you’re suggesting that everyone get one more free transfer, I hope you, in turn, see the possible drawbacks to that suggestion. Do rest assured that I will pass along your ideas to the dev team, though!
What about an in-game mail?
Personally, I think there should be more explanation in the world transfer dialog box. At least two of the newest (read: most enthusiastic) players in my guild transferred off of our server because they mistakenly assumed that it was a per-character transfer. Another one transferred because he didn’t realize he wouldn’t be able to transfer back before it was no longer free to do so.
Remember all of the posts we’ve seen from developers reminding us that the vocal minority in the forums don’t represent the majority? Or that the game can’t just cater to those who participate in the forums, use Reddit, etc.? These are those people. They didn’t know because they don’t read the forums, they don’t use Twitter, and they don’t expect those things to be necessary to their enjoyment of the game.
And honestly, what did the login screen announcement say?
Guesting is coming!
CITIZENS, I have an important announcement to make.Previously, we’ve talked about a feature called guesting, which allows you to play with your friends on other worlds. The wait is over! Guesting is coming to a world near you with our update on January 28th! Read More…
I guess I may be dense, but it seems to me that if one hadn’t been reading the forums enough to associate the beginning of guesting with the end of free transfers, that wouldn’t exactly explain anything at all.
My lvl 20-ish Ele’ got a bunch of chests in Caledon/Brisban and they all had Blues. Found a couple of Greens and a Yellow off corpses.
My 80 Necro, in Orr, got a grand total of two chests both with Blues. He also found three Yellows and four Greens on corpses.
My 80 Ranger found three greens on corpses and no chests anywhere.
Something isn’t right.
My wife reported similar results. I’ve only seen one chest, and it had a blue item in it. Everything else that’s dropped for me since the update was either junk or a white.
I wonder if the chests are actually there, but hidden by the corpses? If that were the case, it might look like we were getting the loot from the corpse when we actually had a chest. This may not be the case, though, because it shouldn’t result in the corpse being all sparkly like it does when there’s loot on it, and I doubt you’d overlook that detail.
I think I agree; something isn’t right.
Aside from the buginess, I don’t get what this change was meant to do. Was there something wrong with just looting from the corpse? As cesmode said above, I like just flicking the f key as I run by a corpse to get the stuff.
How long do the chests last? I’m hoping this is a solution to the “unlooted corpse premature disappearance” problem. Few resources used for a relatively low-polygon-count box, right? It could stay a bit longer without causing problems.
I think a lot of the confusion I feel is due to the absence of an actual “uncommon” item tier in GW2. There’s junk, common, fine, masterwork, rare, exotic, ascended, and legendary. No uncommon anywhere, though I believe that was the term for the purple items in GW1.
I’ve noticed this, too, but if I understand their goal, this seems unintentional. I hope they’ll fix it soon… As it is, always having to click in the upper-right corner isn’t much easier than pressing “H” and clicking the Achievements tab.
I’m not crying. (is anyone accused of crying on the internet ever actually crying?)
I have already transferred, and others I care about have. Can a person not think something is wrong without it personally affecting them?
5g is more than enough to deter people from switching servers to get the best wvw bonuses.
I’m with you on this one. At least two people in my (relatively noob-dense) guild transferred to play with a friend within the past week, not realizing that they were moving all of their characters at once. They don’t visit the forums, they don’t read the whole “Guesting is coming!” article on the login screen, and they had no clue what was going on. Now our guild is divided into two groups: those who played early on and haven’t logged in for a couple of months (mostly my RL friends) on our server, and those who recently started playing and didn’t realize the mistake they were making.
And now we see that guild services are bound to your home world, so they won’t be helping us with influence or gaining the benefits of our upgrades (which are numerous).
Given that I’ve played this game for ~3.75 hours/day since August 25 (plus the beta, but that’s irrelevant), don’t “farm,” have 9 characters, and spend <10 silver/day but keep all my crafting materials instead of selling them, I’ve never had more than 6.5 gold at any one time. I can’t imagine how long it would take a new player to earn the money to transfer, especially when leveling up. They could by gems with money, I suppose, but I don’t expect them to do so.
Considering the circumstances of our guild, and especially given that all of the NA servers are “High” or “Very High” population (ours, Borlis Pass, is only “High”), I think the transfer price is too steep.
I don’t have anything against glitches and exploits but this is kittening stupid, it just takes longer, same level of stupidity as “troll on Kholer”. I’m all for the speed.
I think Anet secretly intended for us to pull the troll to Kholer and let them fight as the troll was hidden to us and players have to look for it. Employing that tactic is a reward for being adventurous. Plus Kholer is the hardest boss in AC exp imo so Anet gave us a hidden trick to make the fight easier.
EDIT: I think my point is that pulling the troll to Kholer is smart use of the environment given to you and is not a tactic that should be regarded as an exploit.
I agree with you. Unlike most exploits, this seems like something that could reasonably happen from a story perspective. Fighting an angry ghost, stumbling onto a big, angry troll, and withdrawing as they rage at each other. Reminds me of something from a book (not The Book of Exploits).
I read somewhere (I believe it was Jeremy Soule’s Facebook page) that it was recorded under a separate agreement for the PAX 2010 demo (I think), and the terms were such that it wasn’t able to be included on the soundtrack.
I only replied to johns comment because he straight out said that you could easily get any item out in the game. This is not true and here are about 10 threads on the fourms who think so too.
Yea, at this point you’re just trolling. Please point out where Mr. Smith said “you could easily get any item out in the game.” Of course this isn’t true. You should really stop putting words in people’s mouth and yelling how wrong it is when no one’s said it in the first place.
Mmmm nope, I still don’t fine the word “easy” in any of his posts. Care to point it out to me? Because it seems you’re an expert in what Mr. Smith is trying to say.
“1. MMOs are fantastic for this, especially GW2. There is nothing I can think of in the game that players can’t decide to enter into the market for because everything in the game you can just go get, there’s no stopping you.”
Except the tiny drop rate, lack of places and forced groups.
Still no “easily” in his statement.
If one could “easily” go get everything in the game, would you be happy?
Remember this is the internet though, people are far more likely to take the time to post about something that upsets them than something they like.
I think this should be an announcement on the forum homepage. Except it shouldn’t go away the next time you load the page.
Am I the only one who desires lodestones for actual (rune/sigil) crafting purposes?
… when you are fighting vastly outnumbered… does get you killed.
This isn’t so much a culling issue in most cases.
I’m very bemused, wasn’t the feedback about the December trial, how much everyone hated it.
Invisible enemies, we can deal with, invisible guild mates is a much bigger problem! Guild members can not be culled.
the current system isn’t ideal but it allows us to coordinate with ally’s creating individual culling pools on either side isn’t going to help against the larger groups of enemies anyway and its going to leave us not being able to see our allies.
I’d like to point out the relatively low chance of my allies joining the fight with the intent to kill me. Or abusing the system.
Another possible improvement I’d like to see implemented is to remove the fade in animation when a character comes out from stealth / culling.
Just let them just pop out from nowhere as soon as the client knows, please.
I think that will be the result of this “fallback model” implementation.
Magic Find isn’t supposed to affect the amount of money you get, just the quality of the drops. There is some food that increases magic find and increases the amount of gold dropped from monsters, but the two things are separate.
Also, when a player dies from a fall (instant kill, no intermediate downed state), there is no armor damage.
I think I must have presented it poorly. I only mentioned the MF because I expected people to suggest that I had higher MF than she did (regardless of the actual effect). I never suspected it had an actual effect on the amount of coins dropped. And the difference in coinage was after selling the abundance of junk and blue items we received.
Also, her deaths weren’t from falling in the Ascalonian Catacombs, they were from hordes of ghosts. I’ve actually played this game enough to realize that there’s a difference, believe it or not.
They should make the placeholder models look like trees or critters. “Oh god, look at that enormous forest heading this way. GTFO!”
Everyone is a plush griffin.
How could you kill the enemy???
Or a Princess Doll.
Cower in fear!
My wife and I just helped out some guildies with the Ascalonian Catacombs (story mode). We each played a character who hadn’t yet played through the dungeon since we’d already done it with two other characters.
Four weird things happened:
1.) In the cinematic that played after defeating King Adelbern, my wife’s character was shown. She hadn’t started the instance, so we were both surprised. No real problems yet, just sort of confusing.
2.) After we accepted the rewards, some of us commented (not negatively, for once) on the headgear we received. My wife said, “I didn’t get a headpiece!” Sure enough, we looked through her inventory bags, typed in the “Search” field, and even right-clicked on her equipped headpiece to see if it was listed. No such luck. We also noticed that she had accumulated maybe 13 silver less than I did in that run, despite her much greater percentage of Magic Find.
3.) After completing the dungeon, I received a letter from “my herald” informing me that I’d gone and stirred up trouble beneath the catacombs and I should deal with it before it gets out of hand and gets him fired or something. My wife received no such letter, even after cleaning out her mail.
4.) She had died twice during the dungeon, but when she went to repair, none of her armor was damaged. This isn’t really a complaint, just another symptom.
We knew it was weird when we saw Symptom #1, but it didn’t seem that important at the time. She was level 80, so I might have assumed she had run the dungeon already and forgotten about it if not for Symptom #4. She was with the party the whole time, didn’t switch characters, leave the instance, or anything weird like that.
