I have a problem MoP, its cast time. Nearly 6s to tag 10 people… In this time I’ve done 5-6 sword autoattacks plus shatters.
I’ve reached a point where I prefer MoC over MoP, cause MoP doesn’t bring me more tagging than sword AA + shatters. It’s more about how much time you spend hitting enemies, than if the ways are more efficient or they hit more enemies in a single attack.
Have you actually used MoP? You use it in tandem with your auto attack. It’s a quick fire skill that is a nice spike in damage in addition to your weapon skills.
As a PvE player trying to enter into the WvW scene, I don’t have much experience with WvW myself. I, like many others, understand some basics, but I don’t want to stay mediocre. I want to feel powerful and helpful, but I feel like dead-weight in zergs, just being a tank and taking damage.
I will spare the details, but my build isn’t complete, so I’m not really asking about that. I’m mostly concerned about positioning, when to fall back, etcetc. I know corridors are something to be wary about, as an example, but what should I check for? I also feel intimidated by the red names piled, not to sound like a kitten, which makes me think the engage is unfavorable. Anyway, I digress, any way I can improve myself? Not necessarily on these things, but I kinda want to learn the ropes of WvW after retiring from PvE for awhile.
Join a guild that has a Teamspeak channel. (Most servers have their own dedicated Teamspeak server).
Your skill level and more importantly your enjoyment from WvW will increase immeasurably.
Most guilds bar the top tier fight guilds are always looking to recruit new players.
Edit:- By the way, make sure you are in a WvW map when asking for guilds to join.

If I dont get a Greatsword skin from my 7 entries i’m going to go ballistic.
In the situation where you get three phantasms up, you’ll want to avoid dodging so you don’t overwrite a phantasm with a clone via deceptive evasion. That’s one of the reasons I don’t use that trait (even though it’s an awesome trait).
Clones replace Clones first. It’s very rare to have more than 2 Phantasms up also. So either you dodge and create a clone or you replace the 3rd Phantasm. Again, a very rare occurrence. That is if you do decide to take DE in a phantasm build. Certainly not enough reason to deter you from dodging.
Finished the fight first go. Its not hard considering everything you’ve done to reach the last boss shows you how to beat the last boss. And im a pve noob. (Protip you shouldnt be attacking the last boss. Just run the fragile buff to the vortex and avoid being hit whilst doing so)
It’s nice to see Canthan content making their way in the current client, but I have to say the design on the hat is so off it’s ridiculous. First thing that came to mind was not enough research. Linking pictures for comparison.

Can’t believe this needs explaning..

I rarely complain, but when i do i get infractions
Anyway, this is a brilliant game. Fantastic combat mechanics, and a game mode unlike any other game (WVW). These two pieces alone set it apart and in no small way keep this game going.
What I usually complain about is the continual push towards squeezing the player base for money. They’ve nerfed farming, champ trains and the recent gem conversion debacle was the icing on the cake.
On top of which we’ve previously had numerous threads (non CDI) where players have requested features or fixes that have as yet to be fixed. And i’m talking a very long time span here. These threads had developer commentary however when necroed a year on, these lead to a lot of eggs on faces for ANET. So much so that they started banning and infracting forumers for necro-ing these threads.
Very poor form.
Personally I have no issues with the content and I do quite enjoy the game with +1000 hours logged. But I don’t like the shift away from giving the players the ability to play how they’d like rather than squeezing the player for more cash. There’s nothing wrong with companies wanting to make money. But not by taking away the tools previously available to players. Like i said, the recent gem conversion issue was a very overt ploy in actually a long list of changes that’s taken these tools away from the players.
I like all people would like to see an expansion to the world of Guildwars 2, however the game model is so much different than anything that came before it.
Guildwars 2 works off of dynamic events -to the point where the event system has completely overtaken traditional leveling. In order for events to work, they require people. If zones were to die off due to population migration to new content, some events might be impossible to complete.
I think that this is why the game pushed for living story instead of traditional expansions. I think that the addition of huge new land masses and especially instanced content, can actually do a large amount of damage to the game.
Living story was an attempt to keep the game world interesting without splitting the playerbase too thinly over so much content that existing events and world areas completely break. Living story was created to prevent tequatl from becoming impossible, to prevent the Shatterer from never dropping down because no one is doing the meta event, etc.
I think the real challenge of Guildwars 2 is “expanding” the game without completely murdering the sensitive web of events that currently exists or killing player leveling zones.
To me, this is truthfully why we have seen no major expansions and instead get rotating temporary events for existing zones that decrease in popularity. This keeps the game world active and healthy. I can’t think of any other game where you could go into the darkest corner of any map and still find a name tag.
I think as a playerbase, instead of harping on why the game can’t traditionally expand, we should offer some constructive feedback on how to expand Guildwars 2 without the game killing itself.
Feel free to post your ideas!
Megaservers alleviate any issues with spreading the player base too thin. As it stands the player base gets condensed automatically.
An expansion would bring players back and increase interest and player numbers.
You can introduce the possibility of a new continent (i.e. Expansion). You don’t actually have to have a new continent.
I know we’re dealing with Mordremoth but the devs showed a teaser pic of a statue of Abbadon which immediately led me to think of Dry Top → Crystal Desert → Elona.
I’m gonna take a shot in the dark and say the LS2 will lead into a full blown Expansion. That being Elona.
Upon seeing that screeenshot I for some reason immediately thought of the Grand Court of Sebelkeh mission from GW1.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Grand_Court_of_Sebelkeh
I have no idea why it resonated with me in this way. I guess im optimistic.
Architecture (well, from the little part we see reminds me of the Grand Court of Sebelkeh mission….
Varesh is attempting to turn the once holy site of the Sebelkeh Basilica into a portal for Abaddon’s minions. Enter the Basilica and close the torment rifts before Abaddon’s The Blasphemy corrupts the Altar of Lyssa.
There’s nothing strange about the gem conversion increase.
A holiday event coupled with people being required to convert 400 gems at a time. There ya go.
Right after the patch?
Right when you update the game?Patch comes out, 1min later prices go up this much and its cause of people converted gold -> gems 1min after the patch from the new system?
Yea, right.
Dont forget the chart being removed also…
I find the new gem conversion presets appalling.
I find that having to “suggest” a reversion back even worse!
Do you simply not see how this alienates the players base?
Unbelievable. Just another way to try and squeeze more from the player base. Absolutely unbelievable.
A button to quickswap to (at least a second ) set of preselected utility skills out of combat is a fantastic idea and as such would have very little chance of actually coming to fruition.
I race quaggans in WVW amongst other non game mode related challenges. Suffer me now!
A question answered will alleviate a lot of angst on these forums.
Is there an expansion in the works?
Hey Guys,
I’d like to kick of a discussion on scoring in WvW.Here is a summary of what you guys have brought up in our previous discussions:
- 24 hour coverage
- How do we make play time in off hours valuable without blowing out the score?
- Snowballing
- How do we give worlds a fighting chance throughout the duration of the match?
- Stagnation
- How do I feel continuously challenged when my world is ahead?
- How does my world break the hold that other worlds have on me when I’m behind?
These are all very much related and solutions are not just in one area but I’d like to keep this discussion focused on scoring. Also, if there is another aspect to scoring that we should consider that I’m missing please feel free to bring it up as we kick off this discussion.
We’ve had some great discussions so far and I want to thank you for keeping it constructive and friendly. I’m looking forward to what you guys bring to this discussion too.
Thanks,
John
Hello John.
I don’t think we need to complicate things too much.
Just apply a handicap based on server performance.
In terms of new things gw2 future will remain unknown. Its not their company policy to discuss future plans.
What you can expect is living world season 2 to end.
Is this actual company policy? Appaling if true.
Yup, I’m still getting the QQ. Running a p/d + s/d spec, killed this guy a few times. He was a bit mad lol
Was that a shatter mesmer you faced?
As a mesmer main I used to QQ but I got over it pretty quickly and started to learn theif. Recently leveled mine to 80 and am quite enjoying the play and the mechanics. Anyways, the heightened understanding helps a lot particularly with the more common S/D D/P builds. For me the hardest thing to get over wasn’t particularly the stealth but the blinds that nullified most attacks. Much better prepared to duel them now however.
he killed lots of players and never died once in hotjoin?
that’s unheard of! someone do something! will nobody think of the childrens??
even if its solo q or hotjoin you think its fair to have so much advantage ?
shall we all roll mesmers if we want to play solo?
You could roll a mesmer but you’re most likely not as talented so its just wasted.
Those asking for lower than Tier 2 fights scene have no concept of the state of the game and its population.
We are in Tier 2 because that’s where most of the fights were. You dont simply GVG in a lower tier. You may get a few fights here and there but in terms of practicing zerg busting, scrimming and GVG the population to fight is non existent outside of reset. Most times there is no one to fight and those that do retreat to towers. Thats why Tier 2 was the best option. Plenty of guilds to fight all day and night long whom are willing to fight. Lots of oppotunities to scrim and a heap of population and hence, guilds to fight.
Why do you think SOS lost a lot of fights guilds to Tier 1 before the tourney? Think about it. There’s no one to fight in the lower tiers. This is natural attrition, with new MMO’s and a somewhat fundamentally unchanged game from launch. There is less population. We’ve seen a lot of great guilds give the game away….and some of those that remain went to T1….for a reason.
This is a brillo idea. ANET. Please.
Oh and, definitely take null field and feedback as a minimum. Consider Veil also since you’ll still be a veil bot. It still counts as a glamour and again it provides another option to lay blind/confusion or if you’re in trouble a getaway mechanism.
You should consider 4-0-0-4-4 with the remaining 2 points at your discretion.
I would take Confusing Enchantment in the Domination Line, Termporal Enchanter and Glamour Mastery in the Inspiration Line as well as Blinding Befuddlement and Dazzling Glamours in the Illusions line.
As Pyro said, definitely spec for much more condition damage. Take Staff instead of GS as a defensive weapon and consider torch offhand also for Prestige as a get out of jail card since you’ll be running a full glamour build without blink or decoy.
1. Remove server transfer fees to and between lower tiers.
2. Enforce a restrictive cap on T1 servers.
3. Redesign current maps to be more small group focused. More objectives. Less zerg friendly. Proper meaningful objectives.
4. Implement GVG to help seperate fight guilds from PPT. GVG’s should be cross server.
5. Remove all hard rezzing. Double downed must waypoint. This will help smaller numbers in keeps and towers sustain a defence against large zergs.
6. Introduce weekly rewards to WVW like the current tournament. Even laurels will do. Please, no more badges or ascended mats.
7. Merge EU and NA servers.
Just some options..
Player since the beginning here. Almost exclusively WVW and some PVP. Rarely venture into dungeons, PVE content (though LS1 was a blast) or even fractals. Still having a lot of fun.
It’s been like this since April or is it only recently you’ve tried to level a new character?
FYI I saw the uhhh slightly more difficult achievements as a good thing. Most WvW players came from PVE originally. It’s a good way to replenish the playing base by exposing them to the game mode when they otherwise may not have.
Ironically, the actual normal WvW achievements (like Yakslapper etc) remain grossly unachieveable. Go figure.
Is it me or do people actually think the world revolves around their time zone. Why would they change WVW mechanics depending on the time of day? How about you all change your play habits, recruit guilds from differing time zones, or just enjoy the fights when they’re there instead of worrying about PPT?
“Night time” for you is daytime for someone else.
You could rethink the way you play. Perhaps the problem isn’t the condi being applied to you. Perhaps the problem is you’re not doing enough or well enough to eliminate your opponent.
Usually run Abyss Dye but the details are hard to make out so dyed in red….
This is my Mesmer…light armor is tough to get the right look…
Adventurer’s Mantle (Helm)
Masquerade Mantle (Shoulders)
Acolyte Coat (Chest)
Zodiac Gloves (Hand)
Student Pants (Legs)
Whispers Secret Footwear (Feet)
Shatters….either you shatter them or you dont. How are you using them? I would advise watching some youtube videos on proper shattering, even if you dont intend on playing a high damange shatter build, its still useful to know the mechanics of it and what they can do for you. Yes, they are a huge departure from GW1. There’s nothing you can do about that.
Secondly, clones (not phantasms) do very little damage. They are meant to confuse opponents or stack conditions (if traited) with their attack or on their death (and shattering does not mean death). Good players in wvw / pvp can tell the real player from a clone quite easily. Perhaps not working as intended but there’s not much to be done about that.
The staff clone attack stacks a random condition and bounces back to you as a boon. Very useful in condition based builds.
There are interrupts. There’s shatter 3, weapon interrupts on your focus, gs and pistol, signet and mantra interrupts too! And you can trait yourself to take advantage of interrupts when you land them.
If PVE is what you are mostly doing then a mesmer is a tough grind until the higher levels. But in WVW/PVP it’s still a great class, just in need of some fixes and tweaks.
Lastly, dont feel saddened. Its just a game.
Learn the nuances of the class by playing more or………….dont.
If there was green people would be asking why no Pink. Where does it end?
I would absolutely LOVE MH Pistol! However, I’ve been trying to think of what skills MH Pistols would make the weapon viable. I would love to see a skill akin to iDuelist’s unload which will give us pretty decent DPS.
Well first skill would be an AA ranged attack. That in itself would be worth the price of admission considering the poor Scepter AA.
Second skill would need to be some sort of clone generating ability.
Third skill, it would be nice to have some sort of utility with a blast finisher. God knows we lack blast finishers.
I worry when they say Mesmers will get an adjustment. Warriors are having their adrenaline “adjusted” too. Not that i care for warriors. The wording is worrying however.
So you admitted to not knowing the class but start a thread titled called mesmer clone/inviz abuse. Why don’t you learn the class and maybe you’ll understand the intricacies that mesmers face. This is a trash thread barely disguised by you wanting to “discuss” mesmer mechanics. Rather you wanted to vent yes? Well vent away. You will continue to lose to even average mesmer players if you dont bother learning how the class works.
For those of you who express your expertise in the field of hyperbole by proclaiming Guild Wars 2 as a dead game, with people leaving in droves..
Congrats to a continued good showing against some tough contenders!
The only thing one can reliably extrapolate from that is that Guildwars 2 needs tanks.
Yes yes, wishful thinking I know but wanting fellow Mesmer players thoughts on this.
A new shatter skill (F5) that blinks the player to the closest clone (or make it ground targeting so it blinks to the clone closest to the target).
The player would shatter the targeted clone and take its place on the field.
Thoughts?
It really doesn’t matter what class you play, you are going to get caught out, particularly if you are alone unless you are well prepared with the correct build and gear setup. If you’re not level 80, you are going to struggle either way in WVW. So i would suggest joining EOTM and running the train in there for leveling your characters as well as help you get a better grip on your classes.
Having said that, Warrior is probably the most forgiving to play currently, though to your original point i have seen many Rangers and Engineers that roam solo or in small groups acquit for themselves very well. I have a level 80 engi myself and roam regularly on it. You just need to get used to the class, its mechanics and abilities.
You should play what you like
Sorry for my ignorance but what is stopping someone simply staking you?
And in the build you’re missing the sigils on the staff or do you use the same sigils of both weapons?
Thanks.
Hai mesmers.
I’m a necro main with a mesmer alt in a T2 WvW guild focused on fights. I was wondering what gank squad type builds you guys think work well at the moment. I know mesmers aren’t great in wvw, but every group needs at least one for veils and I’d like to be able to jump on it if we don’t have our usual mesmer on or when I get tired of well bombing people into oblivion.
Is the standard great sword and sw/f shatter build 4/4/0/0/6 still ideal to target enemy peripherals? Or is staff a better weapon now that the sword leap got ruined? Furthermore what types of runes gear numbers to hit and tactics do you gank squad veterans employ? Veil definitely needs to be there and I’d assume blink or decoy would be good too.
You said it yourself. Gank Squad in WVW. I would stay away from any condi/hybrid type builds. Guild groups run condi duration food and guardian condi clears are ever present. Focus on a power based build thats bursts like a truck. I run something similar to the below when running in a guild group of 15-25.
Stay on the fringes and focus the eles and the downs or the opposite gank squad. Note that there are no condi clears so hopefully you have a guardian in your party. But you should be able to survive with PU. Switch torch for pistol if you’re having problems surviving, but pistol 5 is an excellent first strike ability that lets you and your fellow gank squad focus down a target in a few seconds.
So, after the initial achievement I got my 500 tickets which was correct (first place), now i have been given 100 tickets and the initial 500 are voided!! What is going on ANET??
Your 500 tickets will be available from the battle historian.
