From my experience FT works and works well (for me)
I run 4/4/0/4/2
This is a build i’ve been using, similar to those suggested above however i take pistol / shield:-
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQJAqelUUpWrlcx+KseRCbBNqxAyJcBRuxq8xIEAA-TJBFwAo2fYxJAAaZAAPAAA
If you’re going to use Flamethrower you should be pushing for points, keeping points. Use pistol to engage and defensively. You can apply poison / bleed / blind with pistol on engagement. Then switch to flamer. Remember to trigger flamer tool kit skill with pistol.
Before engage you can also stack might with flame 4 and blasting flame 2 with shield 4. Instant stacks of might. Traited FT cooldown means the skills are always up quick. Smoke vent is super useful if melee classes get close. Use it as a crutch if required so they’re attacks miss in close.
Use toolkit and shield defensively. That’s 2 blocks and a projectile reflect if you need to get away or in the case of rangers, in close.
It would be good to know what build you are using, and in turn whats being used on you.
The removal of guard stacks I concede does level the playing field a bit.
But I dont mind that.
As someone whom has played wvw since launch I really have no issue with facing an opponent whose sole ability to beat me is from the skill of their play and not from the amount of wvw ranks they’ve earnt or that they had the fortune to kill 5 guards before our meeting.
However, I do feel there should be reward for veteran wvw players that does not effect gameplay….similar to Achievement Points where you have a choice of skins.
I do appreciate seeing Gold / Plat / Mithril / Diamond players in game. You know they’ve been through the wars (or spent a heck of a lot of time in the snoozefest that is EOTM)
Veterans do need to be rewarded, but not with something that gives them an advantage in play.
As someone whom has mostly played WvW since launch I think these changes are good. Yes I had full stacks but it was sometimes a pain to have to go and kill guards just to acquire them. A good player in WvW pre stack changes will still be a good player post these changes.
Why stop at one weapon swap, and only ele.
If its out of combat why not have secondary and even a tertiary weapon swap for all classes so that all weapon skills are available out of combat.
Does anyone else think it is totally not fair that we have to grind this time gated gear out? I mean I just recently started the game and would like to get this gear but it seems like a pain. It’s just not fair that others who have been around since launch have multiple sets. It makes me feel so far behind everyone else. I heard that stat difference isn’t much but 5% seems like a lot to me. I’d suggest to up exotic gear to the same as ascended so we don’t have this problem. This also goes against what I thought Anet stood for with no vertical progression and for casual gamers. This is just like WoW with gear grind. And then you need multiple sets of it for different runes and builds. It should just be for fractals. /end rant
So players that have played longer and grinded more are penalized because you don’t want to grind out these sets that dont really provide that much of a difference anyway? How about instead of worrying about the last 5% of a stat which may or may not have helped you you actually learn to play really well or….and dont be shocked…put in some work.
Small suggestion.
Would like the inventory and equipped items of all my characters to be viewable even if i am logged into another one. (Not moveable of course)
This will help players find some items they were looking for or forgot they had particularly those players with 8-10 characters on their account.
Hello, very new to playing ele and am thoroughly enjoying it in PVP.
I run a zerk fresh air s/f build similar to that used by zoose:-
I love it. My question is in terms of the Glyph of elementals, is there a best elemental I should be using or should I be picking the elemental based on the circumstances. And if so, what would the circumstances be?
Thank you.
I understand percentile
Its just not explained on the leaderboard is all.
Can anyone explain how the scoring works? What does the % mean on the left? (My rank % says 62?)
not to be confused with my win % of 64.29.
Also how are points awarded?
Nothing you need to buy with real life money to catchup.
Ascended armor is not necessary at all.
However my celestial ascended armor with matching purple text to go with does give me a nice tingly feeling inside.
A commander is only as good as the group following him.
A good commander makes the best of what he has.
After some testing, I’ve eneded up running 4/4/0/4/2 with strength runes and FT/TK/EGun. Pretty much perma ~550 damage burns, plus enough additional power to make flame blast hit hard, and intelligence sigil to turn it into a real burst. I’ve been trying out a few different sigils for the second slot, and it’s come down to either geomancy or doom. Doom procs seem to miss or get dodged more from this build than the usual nade build, though.
If you’re running EGun then do you even need Doom?
Here’s my Charr Engi. Was going for a futuristic look.
Luckily the Super Rifle Skin has double barrels like a shotgun.
I usually have more muted colours but for some reason all the screenies i take turn out very dark so i’ve dyed some bits white.

Has been mentioned previously but the best is Turrets Syndrome
How certain are you all that every profession will only receive one new weapon?
Not sure if leg mods is giving you much value man. Try power wrench (20% cd on all toolkit skills including gear shield!) Or put the extra two trait points back into elixirs and take backpack regen which will really help you sustain better in fights.
I don’t mind taking the time to learn a class and get good at it. The only thing that is holding me back from ele is that it’s a caster and what if d/d gets nerfed? Then what?!
What if the world ends tomorrow? What if it doesnt get nerfed?
Just play a class and worry about things when they actually happen. While youre doing thst take the time to watch some build guides and so forth on youtube.
Box of nails requires cast time. But I digress…
Cleave on Pry Bar would be too op. It already hits like a truck and applies 5 stacks of confusion. The least a competent engi player can do is hit the right target. Just my opinion as an Engi player.
Oh and of course if all else fails. DROP THE CRATE.
(And get the medpaks!)
Cele engis can do it all.
But you need to tell us your trait setup and other utilities you use.
In terms of contesting points only remain there as long as you can. Use common sense. This is true of all builds. Unless you are specifically built to tank (bunker guard / turret engi) then just use common sense. Theres no defined role for a cele engi.
Sustaining yourself in a fight comes down to a lot of things. I run a 6/0/0/4/4 setup in pvp. Obvioisly taking speedy kits and invigorating speed. This gives you a lot more dodge rolls as you rotate through your kits. Take accelerant packed turrets also. If you are under pressure drop the heal turret trigger the healing burst which also drops a water field and blast the turret with F1. This will also help to knock back any close range opponents and give you a heal. i also use elixir S which gives you an invuln and access to inviz with the tool belt skill. Use it to disengage. Lastly use line of sight to obstruct enemy attacks. Go behind a wall. Kite around a statue.
Next you have chills and blinds on your grenades. Great for close range fights! If you are running away target the grens behind you to keep them off your back.
All the while doing these things try to dodge the heavy attacks. Your constant equipment swapping will keep your endurance going enough to get the extra dodge roll and swiftness.
I usually run backpack regenerator in pvp but if im going to 1v1 a warrior i take protection injection and run slick shoes instead of elixir S.
Thats the beauty of cele engi. Just equip what you need to suit the situation.
Obviously a server would score slightly less or slightly more depending on their ranking.
Maybe its not that obvious?
As ive said numerous times. Why not introduce a handicap scoring system? For instance a historically lower rankes server with most likely lesser population might be awarded more points per tick for holding a keep than a higher tiered server? Or include bonus points for the cap? One could argue its far more difficult for a lesser ranked server to take SMC than a higher ranked one. The game play should be rewarded. Seems like a simple fix to me and could possibly give every server a fighting chance in any matchup.
2 simple things to make PPT viable.
1. Reward PPT winners. Not just during tournaments but every week. Why are we even keeping score anyway??
2. Introduce a handicap scoring system based on historical performance. This will give lesser populated servers a fighting chance.
Lol at the EOTM crticism. Eotm was a haven for roamers and fight guilds wanting to fight each other cross tiers at the beginning. Its actually a well designed map for the most part. Could probably be slightly smaller and have better fort balancing. No the issue with EOTM is not design. It is reward. Its rewards and the ease with which an up level can level oneself and earn enough badges and karma to get decent armor once they are at 80. This has turned the map into a choo choo train fest with 3 pug group running around avoiding each other. Making EOTM viable is as easy as lessening the amountof objectives, lowering the rewards and XP gain. EOTM could be great if it were for level 80s only.
1. Its brash, in fact childish to assume the full mechanics of a map having never played it.
2. The original maps will still be there.
3. Choke points and CC’s are not new. Heard of stability? Stun breaks? Dodge rolling?
I like my open field fights too. Im in a T2 fight guild that raids / scrims / gvg regularly.
Why are you gettung upset over something that hasnt happened yet especially if your preferred maps will still be there? The counters to CCs and choke points are still there and anyone who plays wvw regularly would know that.
Flame Thrower has its merits. Anyone not taking it because they are judging it on uts utility value simply hasnt learnt to play to its strenghts. I regularly run FT with toolkit and either elixir s/rocketboots/slick shoes. It should never be used in a zerg due to retal. But for roaming and spvp it holds its own. The autoattack is one of the best AA’s in the game. It has short to medium range, hits multiple enemies and can apply burning (either on the last tick or immediately if you use incendiary ammo which you should. I find it has great synergy with the rifle. I also like that you can autoattack without a target. You can use the knockback to stop warrior charges, knock thieves out of stealth and oh btw its very good at cleaning up mesmer clones. I could go on..
As a cele engi i find it tough fighting warriors with hammers and shield charge and bulls charge etc. The stuns hurt. Not every class can beat every class and there’s no one build that beats all other builds. I guess that’s where the very top players separate themselves from the rest of us.
I dont understand why we dont introduce handicap scoring based on server performance.
Surely the best solution is a simple one?
Give a weaker server a headstart in PPT (the handicap) and see how the scoring unfolds. Should make things a bit closer even with population imbalances and would encourage players to login and contribute.

^^Just a basic guess, no food or sigils on weps yet (though air/fire and energy are usually the go)
This is all just speculation considering he’s using pistol. And a phantasm build even with pistol does not burst down near quick enough like you describe. It has to be a shatter of some sort.
Server means nothing. Go where the fun is.
Player
Guild
Server a distant third in terms of importance.
Though the above story is in relation to SoR in particular, it does mirror a lot of servers that have fallen to the lower tiers.
Not mentioned though much can be attributed to free transfers to lower tier servers prior to WVW seasons where we see many guilds try to stack a server for rewards. Not particularly well thought out but it is what it is.
The population on servers seems to have stabilized somewhat. We will see what a new season will bring (if there is one) also what the new WVW map will do to the more casual WVW player.
EOTM has the added benefit of awarding badges which you can use to buy exotic 80 level armor once you are at 80. (just make sure you know what you want as the armor cant be salvaged)
Yeah, unless you’re playing tournies do whatever you wanna do.
I think its fantastic how people assume things before any real information is released. Just peachy.
I have the Aetherized hammer. And it is so awesome. So so awesome.
But to the original OP, its nice of you to create a post for your friend.
Im just speculating here but wouldnt be surprised if it included one of Vizu, Archemorus (whom coincidentally also wielded a spear on land) or Saint Viktor. Vizu most likely as one of the top Assassins and would tie in with the shadow steppping moves we see from Rytlock in the trailer when wielding the spear.
Currently in the SOS / FA / YB matchup, everytime we try to cap SMC it kicks all players from the server!
1 death = 1 rally. That should be it.
There’s two types of people in this thread. Those that are hyped, and those that tell everyone they’re not hyped. But really, deep down, they are. They really really are.
Not to be the killer of joy in all this, but regardless of whatever Anet puts out at this point, the RP campaign between here and whatever they’ve been doing really won’t add up to a redemption for a lot of people. The most it can do right now is keep the boat from going under.
Things Anet still needs to learn to do:
- Stop making promises: SAB isn’t back, hasn’t been back, isn’t coming back.
- Stop lying. Refer to above, precursor crafting
- Stop being cheap: Copy-pasting every single piece of content already produced in some way
- Stop breaking things that work fine: Traits, Personal Story, the whole NPE
- Stop NOT communicating with the player base. Gaile’s great, but she must have a heart of some ungodly tough alien alloy because she’s literally being given the task of “Go swim in the feeding frenzy”. Anet’s communication looks something like this, *Screenshot a portal. Add text, “November 4” *.
- Refer to any of the above to see if this is resolved with an expansion. No? Okay, well… that’s going to continue to really pull down any long term profit besides the money an expansion brings. So, in short, if we’re getting an expansion… great. If they expect it resolves anything… I’m not sure it will. It will buys them time to save the game. That’s about it.
TOOT TOOOT
IM ON THE HYPE TRAIN TOOT TOOOT
It took me a very long time to get used to the skill rotations. Knowing what was off CD and knowing exactly what was still available to me at any given moment. It takes time and practice and familiarity. The OP strikes me as someone who read a build guide, didnt play it well, then tried another. You need to stick to a few certain kits and learn from there.
SOS lost a few guilds during this time period so its been hard over the past month or so. But we’ve just had two guilds form for these specific time periods so the fights are much more even now between FA/YB/SOS. Play on SoS if you don’t want to be outzerged, still want good fights and as always if you want to roam, plenty of roaming action on the BL’s.
I dont mind these changes. They seem pretty cool in fact. But uhhh..yeah, please no badges of honor as a reward for WVW. We get plenty already. How about some WVW tickets like the tournaments?
Actually, EOTM was meant to be for the WVW community and in that sense it is a huge update. It’s just unfortunate that the mechanics of the map and it’s almost zero impact on traditional WVW have skewed its purpose.
If Anet were to redefine EOTM and made it more relavent somehow to WVW we’d be having a different conversation.
This is not a new trend. Proper WvW guilds will go to EOTM if the current match up is a bore. This is what EOTM is for and is working as intended. The unintentional use of EOTM is the K-Train/leveling though that’s its most useful benefit.
As far as spying goes, it may happen though i doubt it. Who cares about spying in EOTM when spying in WvW is hardly worth it either. There’s simply no reward. It is very easy to gauge where an enemy zerg is, and its relative size (by how fast objectives are captured).
Eh. Im new(ish) to Warrior and loving it. Play mostly WvW roaming and zerging. For me its about watching enemy boons since we have no reliable boon strip. Then interrupt and evisc for the win. Thieves can still be slippery though but for me it’s more of a l2p issue rather than a sense of being hobbled vs certain classes.
In case of emergency just run run run away.
