If anything, this southsun event should be showing them exactly how much people hate stuff that isn’t casual friendly.

Southsun is not fun, I’ve never even met anyone that likes it there. Vets/Champs that have to be killed twice are not fun, enemies with access to both cripple and weaken, or that can stack 5+ confusion easily are equally not fun. The charge that throws everyone around? Yup…not fun.
Constantly contested waypoints? Yup…not fun.

Orr is marginally better but suffers from much the same. It isn’t as bad as most say but the events do not scale properly. Even the temple events should bloody scale down to be doable with minor effort if you are totally alone simply to allow the destitute servers to actually have access to things like the shards at balthazaar (which honestly should be available at every temple).

The punishing maps from GW1 have no place in this MMO. Variable dynamic events suggest that all things in this game should be scalable (including the dungeouns in my opinion) from 2 people to the full 5 if it must require grouping. MMO only suggests multiple people in the game world, not that people are forced to group together.

Heres a thought, just get rid of the gambling BS right now and stop putting any of this crap into the game, put it on the gemstore for exactly how much is reasonable.

Gambling is not fun, especially not when it is also penalizing dual wielders. IMO greatsword/hammers/bows…they should all require 2 tickets/tokens to get. After all, a duel axe wielder, a sword/board user…and the various combinations require 2 to get the look they are after, thus so should the 2h weapon users.

Fair is fair right?

No? Yeah I thought not, get rid of the gamble entirely.

Ging to just go with the fact you likely have never had metal with the color baked into it (literally created with that color by manipulating the metal during the forging process). Metal created this way can look VERY different depending on what lighting is around it. Take true metal armor that has a polish on it and use colored lights (little LEDs would work) and move them around it, you will get very different colors depending on the light simply because the metal catches and scatters the light.

Dyed metal armor is not painted that color, it is not laquered that color, it is givent he hue during the forging process which is why the shaders altering the color are so perfect. It is a touch of REALISM into the game. Don’t want your armor to shift so dramatically? Play a light armor wearer and stay away from the “midnight” dyes and abyss/celestial. Why not a medium wearer? Because half those sets contain some metal that works exactly like heavy in their construction.

My problem is all the BL maps are exactly the same map (are the SP’s the only thing that rotates?). I don’t understand why we have to do all 3. Also the problem is WvW is PvP. People can argue all they want, but people who do WvW religiously aren’t doing it to fight guards and wildlife. They’re playing to kill other players and take what they have (castles/points/forts etc). I really wish we didn’t suffer equipment damage when I’m killed by a player. I don’t mind getting killed in this environment. I do mind getting penalized for it by having to pay repairs.

It is a PvP environment, the price for not keeping your head up and on a swivel (use left mouse click and rotate your camera as you run to keep an eye on who is around you) is to pay your repair bill. My girl hates PvP and still has fun in the change of combat style.

I actually found that dungeoun incredibly fun despite one guy that had a horrible time trying to dodge things. We stopped after the first big fight, found out it was his first time playing an action mmo (as opposed tot he passive style ala WoW where your defense is mostly handled by stats/rng). Took a few minutes giving him some tricks, he adapted after some rough hits in the next few fights and came out just fine.

It is called “Been there, done that” and it supposed to mean you have visited everything on all maps, including pvp.
When I got my title, my server was not dominating pvp (zombie coast got that nickname because despite being outnumbered by both servers in the battlegroup at the time we kept showing up and rallying to push back zergs that outnumbered us 3 to 1 very regularly) and I had to work my butt off to earn it.
You want a title, then earning it should be the call of the day, I didn’t take the panzy way out and transfer to get it like so many advocate doing. I put in the time and work to get it. For a month my warrior was an often seen name in team chat.

The WvW achievements are far from impossible or unachievable…you simply have to show up and play regularly…same with the pvp ranks (of which your tournament wins help less in achieving I have noticed, making the non-organized team play the preferable one for ranking up). You must play and play regularly to get anywhere. The fact the achievement isn’t likely to be obtained in a few days is a GOOD thing. Means you have to actually show some dedication.

Or is this really a grumbling over the legendary thing? Being that map completion is normally a hidden complaint about legendaries requiring 500 badges. Both the “been there, done that” title and the legendary should require some pvping as both are ment to represent that you have spent time everywhere participating in everything the game has to offer.

Also, once a day you can defend a temple from being taken by the undead and get a laurel (thus giving people incentive to not just capture the temples but to also KEEP them.

You pay attention to armor too much do you? There IS a difference between light/medium/heavy armor defense, which in turn affects the maximum defense that class can rack up.

Yes, the AI of the npc’s we get stuck with in dungeouns/story need improved markedly. They need heals, actual utility skills, to intelligently USE those skills. Heck, Logan has a shield bubble that heals people massively (a specials kill only he has) and he NEVER uses it when it makes sense…he uses it when no one needs health or when nothing is attacking him. That is when he uses it at all, as he tends to glitch out most runs and never make use of it period. Caithe never stealths in combat, never makes use of any thief utility skills…matter of fact the only npc that uses multiple skills regularly is Trahearne.

The norn, as a race, are rather touchy about the whole spirits being messed with in any fashion that is not mutual agreement of both parties. Slvari are right behind them thanks to the inquest messing with mosshearts (the sylvari dolyaks essentially) and messing with the spirits within the mosshearts.

Voodoo would be an interesting direction to go in, it touches on necromancy a bit (thematically, not literally) ut definately is all based upon the spirit world rather than the phisical. I could see the class itself being called the Shaman. Have the class be about interacting with spirits. It would also be hilarious to have an elite that locks someone in place as your character stabs a voodoo doll and causes damage to the captured target.

I have to say, NO.

There is absolutely no reason what so ever to hide your weapon, besides wanting an upper-hand in PvP. And that reason alone is reason enough to NEVER offer this.

Instead what should be done is to offer a wider variety of skins for each weapon type. Design weapon skins with each class that uses the weapon in mind, as well as each potential weapon combination involving that weapon type.

As for your dagger, if you want it more-or-less hidden get Tear of Grenth it’s a hard skin to see due to it’s transparency.

You can also get some other unorthodox dagger skins like Jormag’s Needle and call it a “magical focus”

False.

False.

False.

Surprise, surprise. Hiding your OH would convey very little benefit in PvP and is purely an aesthetic request.

Really? No benefit? I would love to be able to hide my offhands on you. Suddenly swap weapons and you are being pummeled and stunned, laying dead on the ground it finally dawns on you…that warrior had a SHIELD equipped to stun you right before unleashing the spike damage.
Offhand weapons can tell you so much about a person’s build. If you see a warrior with a shield, you know they have utilities also designed to control you (stomp and bolas come to mind).

Ever seen elementalists using dagger/focus? I have, and they use the focus skills to devestating effect thanks to everyone expecting that ele to only have very specific skills (surprise kills people more often than you would ever like to admit).

Dagger/pistol thieves play very differently than dagger/dagger thieves, and a good pvper will notice what weapon that thief has from afar before the fighting begins to alter how they approach that fight.

Seriously, you must not pvp much at all to assume it makes no difference.

In otherwords, this is my topic. You will not derail it. You will not say anything bad about it or discuss other options. Since I am the OP here this is a perfect suggestion and needs no other insight from other players. Now feel free to post, as long as it says good things about this idea.

I personally disagree. I don’t know how long you have been around, and I am going to guess it hasn’t been long. There are many of us who have been around since the first Beta Weekend Events and we have already seen how ArenaNet is working. They are doing a good job of balancing the new content (living story, gemstore items, etc…) with polishing the game. Had you seen the amount of stuff to fix in the beginning, you would be ranting much more than you already are. Give it time, polishing something as big as this takes time and patience, and why not use the team members that you can’t use polishing and use them for additional content that players, unlike you, really enjoy?

QFT

Seriously the OP comes across as yet another individual that thinks only of their own views.

You must also be new to the way Anet works….I remember one april fools in which all our characters were stick figures for a day. How about when our weapons made squeak toy sounds? These minor amusements just prove they don’t take themselves TOO SERIOUSLY.
This game is not an act of pure unadulterated historacle forced requirements to fit within a set time period. It is for FUN. Seriously, we are walking around with rifles capable of firing rapid fire…in an even remotely historical setting armor would be gotten rid of by now as would nigh every melee weapon. B the time shrapnel grenades (as in pure metal grenades) came onto the scene, armor was phased out as being unrealistic in trying to defend against such carnage. The theme of the game from the onset was obviously more about fun than fitting inside a believable/realistic theme.

I played GW1…all of the classes. As someone who played it…you can see parts of it in the classes I stated.

Putting it into GW2 will just be a hodge-podge of current class skills.

I get it, you are hung up on the Ritualist. I and many others miss the Paragon (hoplites rule!). They are gone however, absorbed into the current classes. Right now it would just be a reskin of existing skills for either class to suddenly be added.

New ideas that aren’t just reskins of current skills would be better recieved and allow new ways to play. Like a class that uses shouts as a means of debuffing enemies (closest thing we have now is warrior “fear me”).

You can keep saying that but it has been absorbed. The guardian spirits and the mesmer clones are more or less exactly like the spirits the ritualist used. Warrior actually absorbed a good bit of the paragon as well.

The ritualist doesn’t offer anything NEW. All your doing is reskinning skills already in existence more or less.
Amusing you name the guardian as absorbing the monk when the devs actually point to elementalist for several monk-like GW2 itinerations (hint, take a good hard look at water skills).
Also, your “binding ritual”? Look at the Ranger spirits for buffs/protection. As for attacking people? Engi turrets, plant turrets, Necro flesh worm…all are already there.

Just say you miss the flavor of the class, thats all there is that differentiates it from what is already in the game, the way the skills look.

Reduce toughness importance in aggro

in Suggestions

Posted by: Runiir.6425

Runiir.6425

This is from the Wiki

For a neutral (yellow outlined) NPC the player must attack first to gain its attention. The aggro table of a hostile NPC changes dynamically depending on a number of factors, in order of importance [citation needed] :
1. closest target to them
2. who is dealing damage
3. top damage dealers
4. who is using a shield / has more toughness and overall armor
5. others (see Tanking tactics below)

I think that is should be the people with the least toughness get targeted instead of the people with the most. It makes sense that way. Enemies should not be so dumb as to not kill the squishy player and instead go for the more tanky player. If players played like that everyone would die all the time.

In a game that doesn’t have trinity, and technically every character is capable of making themselves tanky that isn’t actually a completely unreasonable suggestion. You want to be a glass canon? Prepare to be tested, you’re going to get every mobs attention with your lack of protection and over the top damage. Giving yourself toughness and protection is even better because it also makes the mobs want to both fighting you less when there are easier targets to work on.

At the same time, though, it removes the point of making yourself tanky. Why should I build my fighter to take hits when it means he’s less likely to even be hit, and more likely that someone else will be hit instead?

You build tanky to take the hits when they come, not to purposefully get hit.
They also need to limit defiant to 3 stacks maximum. Bosses already have rediculous hp levels, being able to smartly interupt them should just be good game strategy.

Can’t defend itself? Me-thinks you just don’t know how to defend yourself.
Hint: If you build for pure turrets (which SO MANY engineers do) you can’t defend yourself as you depend on the turrets to do it for you…this is working as intended.
If you build for defense, you have to wear down the enemy, if you build for offense…you have no defense…this is good balance.

I see pistol/shield engineers defend themselves just fine against 2-4 people in spvp plenty of times. Maybe, just maybe, your chosen skills just don’t work very well in defending oneself in pvp?
Engi in raw condition damage build is just like any bezerker build…defenseless. Also, pure condition damage in pvp is incredibly powerful (I’ve personally died a few times after killign an engineer just from their condition damage, my playstyle has no condition removal for my spvp character). People rarely build to cancel conditions reliably and repeatedly, go pure condition damage and watch how many people you just slaughter.

No class has high defense and high damage output simultaneously you build one way or the other, or build middle of the road and outsmart your competition. Even thieves don’t have amazing defense, I’ve killed more than a few while they were in stealth because they were bezerk built for raw damage.

Technically all char can use use a pistol with the racial utility skill. really don’t think warriors need any new weapons other than a dang 2h axe…given that our proffession page shows a warrior holding a 2h axe on his shoulder!

Oh, I’ve said already that warriors don’t fit the theme of the pistol, was just poking at the idea that rifles/longbows required less finesse.

In all honesty…speaking as someone who actually fights with melee weapons in tournaments (yes, bladed and fully armored) a dagger is a thug’s weapon that requires no “finesse” to use properly or efficiently. By comparison you actually need a LOT of finesse to use axes properly and efficiently and even more finesse to use a longsword, kitten sword, or claymore (the real name for greatsword). Finesse is your ability to use a weapon not naturally balanced all that great in a well balanced manner while making dexterous and accurate attacks with calculated timing. A dagger is a slashing quick weapon that is mere inches from your hand making it exeedingly simple to make targetted attacks with. Me thinks far too many people have been brainwashed by reading assassin books and from the longstanding brainwashing MMO games use for why rogues get to do these big backstab damage skills (also of note, if one is skilled enough to "backstab with a dagger…they would choose to do so with a shortsword for a far more likely a chance at ensuring it was fatal in one blow, dagger wounds are notoriously survivable).

Ranger with a pet might be how Arenanet see the Ranger, it’s not how many Rangers want it to be and would like the OPTION, so you fanboi’s of a pet can still use the thing.

People supporting the pet seem to want to force us to play with it, whereas many would like the option.

Arenanet really need to be flexible with some issues, and not force people to play how they see various aspects of the game. (Town clothes being another issue).

People will walk when something that suits them more comes along, and I’ve heard all the rubbish like “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out”, just remember it’s the players that make this game a success.

Yre the “fanboi” here more than others. I argue against changign it as other options are there. Warrior and thief that can both play ana rcher role. You grumble about warrior wearing heavy armor, boo hoo…choose some of the lighter looking heavy armor than. How about thief? What? Don’t like shortbow range?

Every class has a unique skillset, a mechanic that is their’s alone, for ranger that is the pet. The pet will never go away, it will forever be bound to the ranger. This is not how I want it, but this is how Anet has built the class. Make peace with this fact and learn how to utilize the pet. Outside of high level fractals (thanks to agony) if your pet is dying constantly than you are just a failure at understanding the pets you have chosen and your playstyle.
Hint; do not choose a pet based on how it looks, you choose them based on their stat strengths and the on-use skill they have access to. Birds are persuit pets, for use when you are hunting/scouting in wvw. Spiders/lakittenails fire at range and make great boss fight pets as you can command them out of red circles easier than melee pets and rarely draw the aggro of the boss. Bears make great tanks and have (through use of clever swap outs my own heal and the guardian being a buffer.healer in the group) used 2 bears as a raw tank for all 3 paths of HotW. The rest of the pets are ok for open world but lack any real niche they just excel at in a manner that doesn’t require constant supervision.
As for using the bears to tank for me, yes…that includes manually making them run out of red circles/aoes/large attacks and using follow/attack commands to manuever the boss when necessary.

Seriously, those griping about the pet AI…just don’t know how to use it…and Ranger isn’t even my main…I’d love for the ai to be farther improved but it is not nearly as bad as people think.

[Idea] The Pigeons of WvW and the Defenders of the Keep

Seriously disagree with your idea that improving defensive play is a bad thing. Defense should always have an advantage over offense in regards to the keeps/towers/castle. It is rediculous that the lip on tower walls prevents defenders from hitting attackers as an example.

It is also rediculous that there are aoe caps. If players have number caps…seige needs them removed (arrow carts can only hit 8 people at a time for example, trebuchette and mortars only hit 5…). WvW would be far more tactical and less zergy if defense was given honest considerations.

You can post as much as you want about it and it will not change things, the devs are very firm in this design decision.

Thank God.

Yeah, thank God they insist on maintaining antiquated holdovers, we simple-minded people hate change after all.

Thanks for your superb insight.

Ah yes, I disagree with you, therefore I’m simple-minded.

Speaking of “superb insight.”

Why don’t you really go for the throat and toss in some remark about my mom while you’re at it.

I’d probably disagree with you more civilly if you actually contributed something worthwhile with your ‘disagreement’. But feel free to continue trolling and then hypocritically implying others are juvenile.

Did you ever preview light+medium+heavy armor? before the preview change? Evrything clipped so horribly that it made you look laughable at best. Current designs are designed to work together with other armors of the same type. There is still clipping in the same armors, but not nearly as bad as it could be.

The game is designed to be very visual oriented in class identification.
It is one of the reasons the devs have blatently come out and said they will NEVER allow classes to wear certaina rmor.

The only classes that should realistically use a greataxe would be;
the warrior (weapon master of the game, and the kitten warrior image used on the proffession page shows a warrior with a great axe for crying out loud),
ranger (anothe rmelee option and naturalists tend to use axes as they are good for more than weapons, axes are good for logging),
and guardians (who I have long said should be able to use mh axes due to being SOLDIERS!)

No other proffessions make sense.
Engineer? Nope, they don’t use anything but guns (for flacor reasons).
Mesmer? Nope, they don’t use 1h axes
Necro? Nope, they don’t use greatsword or hammer an thus aren’t likely to see great axe either as they are trying to keep the class mage-looking
Ele? look at mesmer
Thief? axes are slow weapons, thus they won’t get them.

Imo thieves do not need a nerf of any kind, with the sole exception of the ridiculous ability to finish someone while in stealth.

This pretty much sums it up.

I’d be happy if when you went to finish someone all buffs were removed from you (stealth, stability, haste, shrink potion, etc).

Mesmers are condition damage based unless you use the sword or greatsword. Even THEN condition damage is still a high part of your base damage, large crits should never happen from a mesmer for the very reason you have confusion…which btw…you can kill any good thief by just condition crashing them and watching them die to all those skills (hint, if you use a skill to remove cfusion you take x2 confusion procs in damage…stack confusion and watch a thief kill themselves by going invisible works every time).

Kaaboose, you came from EQ1 and 2 before WoW…no wonder you think WoW had more polish.
WoW has the worst launch in MMO history, I was an in house tester for the various stages of development…the game’s launch was atrocious. TOR however had the cleanest and smoothest launch for any MMO to date…that game went into decline due to the linear progression however.
WoW had a long list of game-breaking problems for over a full year, the reason it survived was the rabid fanbase from the RTS that was happy to overlook almost any problem as long as they could log in and move around.

dr, the point is because those labels are not ont he skills, they are not effected by traits.

Also…all guardian elite skills suck currently BECAUSE they are totally disconected from what the class is about when you look at every other skill they have.
