Aegis effect

You are a guardian, aegis cannot be just a buff because what it does is rather strong (seriously it is a huge part of why a guardian can survive so well) so the effect has to be blatent and obvious.

Glowing auras look rediculous when they covor the entire body. No matter what effect they use, some people would hate it.
Also the best looking shield int he game, prophecies, only looks it’s absolute best when held by a guardian with the aegis effect protecting the flipping pages of the book. Especially when you add in the power fading off the edges of the shield matches the aegis perfectly.

It is part of your class, a constant blue spirit shield..which you’ve had for almost the entire career of your character.

BTW, I suck at total support, I tried (more than just once, took a full month just trying support) my ability to time cleanses sucks horribly as does my ability to manage healing skills for other people’s use. I can be suedo support by using shouts as heals (buffing others while healign myself for example, or buffing myself while healign others as a side effect) I just suck at the timing of cleansing and predicting the time an attack will go off to buff 3 seconds before it.

There is a difference between the psuedo support, and those who go full support and manage to keep 2-3 people moving strong while they add what they can in terms of auto attacks and the occasional attack skill.

Yea, this game isnt designed around the holy-MMO-trinity. If a player is buffing/healing and not having time to kill XYZ target, thats a bad player/group IMHO.

Playing a Support(mightStacks, Healing) Guardian, AuraMaster-Ele, …ect doesnt mean I should only focus on the boons/healing that i can do, but I should focus on the goal of killing XYZ mobs, finishing whatever task the group is on, WHILE healing and buffing the party. One thing I like about the boons, they are all almost combat passive. You buff when you are attacking, dodging, running rune synergy(Lyssa+Elite SKill+Sigil that shares your boons = OP IMHO). And I do not feel player should get extra credit based on the boons they hand out or the % of healing they do. As not all classes can play that way (mesmer for example) and it would probably create a rift between classes, that we do not have today.

You are the same type of player that cries when I slaughter you because you can’t drag me down thanks to having great support backing me up.

Support is more than healing; it is part healing, part timing fields for others to use, part timing buffs so you get your current target buffed up prior to an unload, part timing cleanses to get rid of the worse effects and just allowing others to go as insubstantial (always allow burn to stay on as it can’t be stacked for damage for example), all of that while adding what damage you can usually through auto attack and a single attack skill that is quick to come off cooldown (guardian scepter fists, guardian staff orb, necro staff blood mark, ele staff glacier, etc…). The supporter isn’t cranking damage skills, they are watching allies around them. A good supporter can take the place of 2 damage dealers by simply makign everything you do to the person in your face like pebbles against a steel wall, while that person in your face is also self healing/cleansing farther removing what you do to them. If you ignore the person in your face to focus ont he supporter, sure you may kill the support but you are also dead nigh every time.

I see it all the time in WvW, the group with more support people wins unless the zerg is just that great in number.

Thoughts on Night Capping

Rankings should be gotten rid off. Every week just totally randomize the fights. After all the mists is supposed to be an every changing series of connections with other worlds. How do we get the mist feel when we see the same people for months?

You’ll see the populations spread out when there is no longer any rankings to fight for.

However, rankings should be based on points/active wvw population. As many of the current tier 1 would be incapable of putting up a proper fight if they have to go 30v30 with the lowest tiers. Back when we could freely swap servers, I jumped to the lowest tiers just to get a feel for different wvw situations, they are much tighter down there than in the upper tiers. The upper tier solution to EVERYTHING is throwing more people at it…it gets old fast, but I’m happy where I’ve always been on TC…a lil bit o everythign gets tried on TC.

On a slight side a shout and banner healing skill would be awesome too

30 point traits for both those.

I agree that our elite slot should be able to be slotted with a utility skill as most elites are VERY lackluster for the up time they have. The only elite skill that is honestly done properly is warrior signet of rage, 39 second uptime, 21 second down time on the use and if you don’t use it, you are still recieving an effect that is worthwhile.

I’ve said this before…they need to give the credit from the buffs to those who actually DO the buffing. If a guardian gives you 12 stacks of might, the extra damage you do from those might stacks should go to the guardian’s damage done.
If someone heals you then they should get partial credit for all the damage you do for 5 seconds. Same with cleansing.

My partner in this game prefers buffer/healing/supportive roles and watching them struggle with badges in WvW is incredulous considering we’ve taken out groups twice our size thanks to good support.

It honestly feels like most people who hate or claim the pet is a debuff just are not cut out to play a pet class. Are the pets perfect? No. They SHOULD require some micro management, they should not be this perfect ai you don’t have to maintain. This is the class mechanic, if you don’t like micro managing a pet, don’t play a pet class.

Then get it off my favorite profession by making it optional! If I wanted to babysit I’d start a guild… I get so utterly sick of the “well this is the way it is” argument. I’m glad you guys are willing to accept being shackled to mediocrity as a class. I am not. I LOVE the ranger. I love the concept of ranger. My main in the original GW was guess what? A ranger. Back when I had the choice to just ungimp myself and lose the fleabag entirely. It sickens me that we’re not even living up to the standards of the same profession in the prequel to this game, when we should be surpassing it. I’ve pushed the class literally as far as it can go, and am unimpressed. Especially when my level 35 thief puts out more damage, and has better survivabilty than I do as ranger.

We need help, and we’ve needed it since launch.

If you don’t want the pet, then why be a ranger? Meleeing? Be thief or war. Archer? War or thief again.
If you aren’t using spirits, than you already aren’t using the purely unique ranger utility skills and can find similar if not literally the exact skills in other classes.

What then has you so enamored with the ranger? Armor? Engi and thieves get the same armor.
The look of the skills? If that is the only thing, then harang them for a druid class.

This is not gw1, it is not limited to or held back by the design decisions of the older game. In THIS game, a ranger is a beast master. If you don’t like pets, find a class that mechanically does what you need and doesn’t have a pet.

It sounds mostly like you are in denial of what the game is and what you want. If you want the gw1 ranger exactly as it was, play gw1.

This comes froms omeone that recognizes the failings of the pet system in it’s current incarnation, and that they will tweak it but never get rid of pets.

Wxp points are used to make your character stronger. Laurels are also used to buy gear to make your character stronger. Last I checked, laurels can’t be traded, thus not a true currency, but a point system to improve your character.

Kharma isn’t tradable either. Laurals are a currency wxp is not a currency, it is like skillpoints (and they even call them wvw skill points) so any argument you can coniencavably come with is failure to address the simple fact that you cannot give experience from one character to another, which is exactly what wxp is.

Yes, they should take reduced damage from aoe and seige, should definately not be 50% of the ranger’s damage output, but they should always require micro management to use well. Those that don’t pay attention to the pet should always stand out as just plain bad rangers. Which is a hard balance to strike.

I’ll agree fully ont he auto attack being far too slow, if the damage had another half again added too it, than the speed would be fine for it’s damage though so either fix would do.

It wouldn’t really be a point blank shot if you could do it at far range though, it would need to be name changed (I suggest ramming shot myself).

10s on barrage cooldown is a bit much honestly. current cooldown is what?40-45s if memory serves? 15-20s cooldown would be fine…prefrence of 15 given that the ranger can’t move while it is going on. This weapon does need changed though, it is kinda sad when the WARRIOR out damages a ranger with a longbow in all situations.

GW2 combat is skill and tactics…if you think it doesn’t have tactics you don’t know what the word honestly means then in practical use. Other MMOs it is all about your equipment and stats. The ONLY people that like that style of pvp are those who want gankfests.
EVERY class can slaughter a thief, every…single…one. It just takes the right tactics and the skill to complete those tactics.

Seriously…you are bothered by speed in this game? You can bounce around this world faster than any other out there and you are complaining about speed? Have you PLAYED this game? The waypoints are everywhere and it does not take long to make up the cash you spent on waypointing.

You just want to complain about something don’t you?
Only the last passage of your post was about my suggestion and to answer that:
By the time I have the waypoints unlocked I don’t need them anymore because I have this part of the map completed.
So, yes I am bothered by the speed in pve of this game, enough so that I stopped playing my warrior at level 50 because another 30 level of this just weren’t worth all the time i’d need.
It takes me about 3-4hours for a map and of those I am fighting or completing events at most for 30minutes-1hour.
That is nearly as bad as SW: TOR classquest on belsavis (40minutes to get from spaceport to the victim, 30seconds to kill it and 20minutes, because I didn’t need to search for the way, to get back to the spaceport [4 hours fleetport cd])

Actually, the only one complaining here is you, over pointless things. You level by moving forward, not backwards. Thus movement speed matters little if you always push into new territory and area with hearts you haven’t completed. You never need to returnt ot he quest giver here, just keep moving forward. What speed do you need when you never leave combat?

The beginning of my post was point blank about your comments on pvp, it sounds like you lack skill and the ability to formt actics quickly and change them on the fly, thus complain because you can’t have uber stats to absorb your errors.

No, I am not a god at pvp, I hold my own, no more and no less. I just recognize those who cannot compete and change as things change around them. The game is fine, if you need a state based game, there is virtually every other MMO out there to choose from.

Dissolve small population guilds

How about we auto dissolve any guild with over 50 active members instead op? Destroy every large no name guild (yes, no-name, as guilds that big cause few people to honestly know each other beyond aquaintence status) and force everyone into smaller guilds where youa ctually know the people you are associated with.

Timing of New Builds

Look at the number of servers, then look at the dragon timers for those servers. Jormag is on a different timer on EVERY server.

Get off your high horse and realize that no matter when the build went live, there would have been an interuption of some dragon event on any given server.

BearJada, everyone knew that the build would go live on the 26th. That generally means around the middle of the day. This is not new, this is also how virtually every MMO handles this. They let you know the day it will happen long in advance. So you miss one chest for one day, it is not that big of a deal, you don’t pay every month to have access to the game. Relax. Also, perhaps instead of standing there waiting, you could have been chatting in map chat, guild chat, meeting people, having a good time while waiting rather than considering the sitting there wasted time.

Someone, somewhere, was bound to get interupted durring a dragon event. This time it was you. Shrug your shoulders, realize it is just a game, and go kill the dragon tomorrow.

My Idea for Fair Precursors.

I don’t think it would work.

This would just cause people to come on the forums and complain about the jumping puzzles, especially the WvW ones, rather than the costs of precursors. Also, there are players out there who simply cannot do jumping puzzles due to some condition that they have, so this would screw them out of precursors forever.

Also, other than the puzzles, everything here can be done within a few weeks. That’s really not how a precursor should be. Not to mention that for someone who likes dungeons and jumping puzzles, they’ll meet the prerequisites for a precursor far too easily.

A couple of weeks is just fine for a precursor…the precursor is NOT the legendary, it is one small PART of the legendary. Honestly the part that is the precursor should only cost a pact token, this means you made it through the entire story, an act in and of itself that takes several weeks to easily 2 months depending on how often someone plays.

Virtually everyone I’ve talked to hates the karka, especially the vet/champs due to 2 reasons…the rolling attack of the adult karka is undodgable/blockable (when you are in a dodge roll you are supposed to be totally invulnerable, ergo if you roll AT the rolling karka you should end up with no damage and on your feet as it rolls away from you, as is consistent with every other attack in the game) and the fact they actually have twice the HP…making fighting a vet like fighting a champ and a champ like fighting a hero (well, a hero that isn’t an ally as hero allys go down faster than a prostitute).

If this is the ‘hard’ open world content that GW1 fanatics have been clamorign for…why is it so barren here? Why do they not constantly fill it to test and challenge themselves? Oh, that’s right…they are in the dungeouns and spvp and ignorign it completely. Open world cannot have a map that essentially forces there to be large numbers upon it. You put someone by themselves on any other openw orld map and there will not be manny places they cannot go…do that around the karka and there are entire locations that if they stop and fight solo they will be slaughtered. Half the map of southsun may as well not even be there as no one ever fights there.

Anet tried and it has been proven how large a failure southsun really is. There is nothing there, no chest events, no rare/new looking equipment. The vets (which are far too anoying to fight) are spread too thickly/roam too far, people have no wish to deal with them as they get not nearly enough profit for such an unfun fight each and every vet/champ karka is. The salamander aren’t much better with the number of confusion/daze/stun skills they have.

If the map is dead, the problem is that it is not profitable enough, nor fun enough. If you expect people to do this living story there at the heart of karka-land, better re-designt he karka as people won’t hang there long. The large group for the story will be there for all of a day or two and then the map will be empty as usual if the enemies aren’t changed. That is my prediction.

A new race for tyria/other place

Well Sirius, it’s a well known fact in mmo and fantasy culture in general…the only “little” race people are usually ok with en-masse are dwarves, anythign smaller and you hear an endless stream of vehemit hate to them, especially with the punting jokes.

Also, I swear I will never play this game again if quagan become a playable race. I cannot stand the quagan, they are everything BAD about being childlike while the skritt are everything tolerable and good about being childlike.

Skritt will never be a playable race due tot he fact a skritt off by themselves are dumb as a sack of bricks essentially. and are geniuses that make the asura look like court jesters when in large numbers.

If I could make my norn usingt he bodystyle Braham has…all of my characters would be norn. Braham essentially has a human male bodytype just enlarged to norn height…aka…he is exactly like the female norn int hat they are simply enlarged female humans with no deformities.

The current male norn bodytype is in no way pleasing and downright goofy lookign wearing anything but heavy armor, and event hent he armor has to be huge and downright a walking bulwark to look right on such a frame.

I agree that all the norn body types are over the top Hulk status, although not to be rude what does the Norn body type have anything to do with Rox the Charr

It pinpoints the same thing, the same issue…that the characters do not resemble the current designs. Rox is this cute anime looking thing and Braham is a normal looking individual that isn’t all hulked out. People pointing at one and ignoring the other shows how normal one looks and how out of proportion the actual version we can play is, while how much the other is way out of proportion with what is expected.

Want to know how to get rid of the asking for inspect? Make AR appear as a buff that can be moused over right alongside MF. If you have any than it is plain as day on your buff bars.

You’re dream of PKing…is BORING. Non-objective driven PvP is incredibly boring and only the most easily amused, or those hoping for gank fests while people are doing something else, find any honest enjoyment from it. The only form I’d accept it in is gladiator bouts where you enter the arena and have no idea who or what you may be fighting, including being out numbered perhaps.

Earning respect amongst other Orders

Seriously, by the end of the main story, slaying Zhaitan and leading the charge of the pact, being a world known hero…the 3 orders should just let us buy whatever we want from any of them.
We earned my stripes with all three orders by killing an elder dragon and bringing the 3 orders together. We shouldn’t have to prove ourselves one bit beyond that. Any amount of proving our way from one order to the next is rediculous when viewed fromt he story perspective, aka the world’s perspective.

Olba, and that is the first problem I noticed witht hief as I played it. the initiative system is supposed to balance us, but if you grab 3 ways tor estore initiative you maya s well not even HAVE the initiative system as you no longer need to pay attention to it.

Thieves need every way that regens initiative or expands the initiative pool removed. Yes this comes forms omeone who rather enjoys playing thief from time to time. The class is broken in many ways that is obvious. The upcoming stealth change should quiet people on that front as you won’t be able to stack stealth > if you stealth and it is 3 seconds, then you use your next stealth when it has half a second elft, you will still be revealed with the debuff when the first stealth ends and the second one you used on cooldown. This should end alot of crying, however it still doesn’t fix the problem with initiative itself, as there are ways to make initiative meaningless.

Make the thief require more skill to play as it should be. A bad thief should be nothing but fodder with no way to save themselves. Bad thief in this case is any thief that is a one trick pony (heartseeker spam anyone?).

Ofcourse the best option is to remove initiative entirely and put thieves on the cooldown timers like everyone else and end the problem with endless initiative builds.

Braham is essentially the human male model norn sized…which if this was an available bodytype for male norn ALL my characters would be norn. As it stands the current male norn bodytype is rediculous unless you are wearing the heaviest looking armor you can find.

If they would re-code the karka so that when a vet/champ hits zero health the first time it dies, people would be likely to bother with it. If they also got rid of the absolutely moronic idea of the rolling attack that does not get broadcasted fast enough, hits far too hard, and STILL HITS YOU if you dodge roll (the only attack in the game that still hits for full damage despite being in evasion immunity mode) people would actually go there.

As it stands, I seriously doubt that even with the living story pointing in that direction, they won’t get many people to go there. Everyone hates it with a passion.

Allow Race Changes!

This is a thread to allow race changes, not otherwise. A reply of conflicting interests would only cause you to be considered a trolling poster. Get flamed for trolling if you’d like. Its better you make a new thread to oppose this suggestion instead of trying to make an opposition to the supporters of this post.

Amusing, if you cannot handle dissenting opinions then leave the internet. This is a place of discussion, how you reply to others (which is quite badly when they aren’t behind your opinion) quantifys how likely they are to take your suggestion to the devs. There are, as has been posted before, 80+ threads about this, meaning you break the TOS for starting another one anyway.

If you cannot handle rational reasons against your opinion, and cannot propose rational counters devoid of emotion (hint, you haven’t) than you are the troll in the discussion.

Also, as has been stated so many times, what anyone wants is irrelivent as CC Eva has already given us word that the devs are set against this firmly. There are far too many problems.

Seriously, if you make it past 30 before realizing your dislike for a race than you fail at noticing things pretty badly. Asura weapons being tiny? You will see it easily prior to 30. Voices you don’t like? Yup, you’ll hear plenty prior to 30. Animations? Yet again prior to 30. There is NOTHING about your character you cannot discover prior to 30 about liking/hating it.
Can you grow to hate it? Sure if you don’t take breaks. However, if you grow to hate it than you must make another…not simply change skins. Thus don’t go overboard gathering and fully equipping a character you don’t love.

Skipping In Dungeons And Other Improvements

Making trash mobs not drop aggro makes it easier to skip, doesn’t it? Someone just needs to aggro all the trash mobs and bring them to an out of the way location and die there. Then if the mobs don’t automatically go back to their starting locations then everyone can just skip freely.

Not if you alter aggro in dungeouns so if one person aggros everyone gets the aggro. No matter where you go they hunt and destroy, and without the ability to revive while in combat, no one ever gets out of combat untill finally the last person drops.

Dungouns=enemy strongholds…they are ready, prepared, and know every inch of the place they are holding. Thus there should be only one option, fight for every step you take and leave a pile of corpses in your wake.

Anwar, chances are you are holding onto gear far too much (kharma gear is all I bother using while leveling usually) or you are holding onto crafting stuff that is intermediary such as hilts or armor plates/etc…only craft if you can finish the peice, don’t hold onto or make things that you have to hold onto in order to finish.
Salvage whites and vendor anything else you don’t need and can’t deposit if it won’t sell on the TP.

Finally…it is like every MMO…low levels don’t make bank. You said you played EQ…you forget what EQ1 was like? lvl 40 GW2 is akin to lvl 20 EQ1…you aren’t going to be pulling in big amounts of cash. If you are buying crafting materials on the TP in any great amount you will lose money, it is like that in every MMO. You say you have played MMO’s for 15 years…alting multiple characters keeping them in the same space…never works well, it is incredibly more efficient to level one to max then use that one to fund the alts (or in this game use the alts to help in the legendary grind via their skillpoints).

I gave up on logic and reason in this forum a long time ago, I don’t even know why I expect decent answers anymore. For the record, I have 6 level 80s, all seasoned and experienced in WvW and sPvP environments. The Thief I do play is an S/D setup that is designed for staying power.

You’re hilarious. Any competent Thief has no problem with mandatory Revealed. “Burning” stealths? You obviously have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. Thieves will still have all of their stealths on-hand. They’ll just appear briefly whether they hit you or not. If the Thief has even a partial brain stem, they can deal with that, considering how mobile the profession is. In fact, 90% of encounters have Revealed up almost every single time the Thief exits stealth, so it will make absolutely no difference to any Thief above the age of 4.

I advise you give up your ramblings before you just shout COWARD! WAAH LET ME KILL YOU! over and over and lower the IQ of everyone else in the thread by at least 10 points.

I have said it before, and will say it again. Go p/p and sb and take all stealths off your bar. You will have MORE staying power than you do with stealth if you know what you are doing, and are a much larger threat. I’ve provent his over and over again in spvp and wvw. The class does not even need stealth to be good. Thus, relying upon it shows you need to handicap your opponant to win.

Your last dig is hilarious. That is known as an honorable fair fight. Other games with infinit stealth but never an in combat stealth are incredibly more balanced as the rogue/thief now has to stay in the fight till the bitter end, win or lose they are locked in the death spiral like everyone else. This incarnation of thief is pathetic, every last one of them clings to this stealth dance and fights against event he slightest touch against it. You and those like you make IQ seem like a rare trait. Your reaction to being called a coward is hilarious I might add, quite typical for those with no leg to stand on.

The current revealed is pointless, on 26th revealed turns into this thing where chainign stealths will be impossible, if you restealth a second before the previous one ends, your still coming out of stealth whent hat first one ends and the second one on CD gaining you no benefit, locked out of stealth skills for far longer. For someone that is advocating thieves do you know what is coming your way? THAT is what I was talking about with the lack of stealth to flee. In stealth for 3 seconds (4 if traited) and locked out of all stealth for 5-6 seconds last I dug up. Would appear they are trying to kill pure stealth builds to me.

TC opens Balthazar semi regularly.

There are 3 paths that have you escorting troops/supplies from fort trinity to the camp int he cave on the far side of the map. after all 3 troop convoys make it, another event can be started where you esort all of them up to balthazaar to start the event. If you don’t do all the pre-events, it will never pop.

Some of what you say about tengu is accurate, but it looks like there are a few things you’ve missed. It doesn’t change the fact that they have little presence in GW2, but there is a lore-explained reason for it. Even if it does set up their introduction to look like a kitten-pull… too late to change that now though. Maybe through some “Living Story” content leading up to an expansion – probably about Primordus making a move.

Now, the details I mentioned earlier:

  • There is at least another optional stage during one of the personal story tracks – Soar Goldbeak reportedly shows up in one of the sylvari branches. While Jormag is a prominent feature in the norn starting areas, there aren’t a whole lot of personal story steps that involve kodan either – although there are a few, and likely more than for tengu.
  • There’s a skill point in the sylvari starting area that requires you to fight a tengu named Swift Arrow. Reportedly his combat animation is based on that for a charr, though, which probably explains a lot of other things too.
  • There are two tengu outposts outside the wall; the Hanto trading post in Caledon Forest, plus another trading village in Kessex Hills. They’re good places to learn details about the tengu and how they see the world, although you’re definitely not going to learn as much as you would from the kodan.

There’s plenty in game to suggest that the Dominion of Winds will at some point be relevant, but I can’t disagree that things seem more imminent on the Jormag/kodan front.

Oh they have set up the Tengu for expansion for sure, it just would feel like a totally knee-jerk move to release them before letting them out into the world more.

I also totally forgot about that skill point…shows how rare it is though if thats the only combat instance we have for them.
Just saying that with the gigantic influx of new players, they need to introduce the Tengu a LOT better so all of the GW1 vets aren’t the only ones “in the know”.

that was rather devastating for our servers WvW effort (in T1).

Fred, what tier WvW do you play in?
The upper branches have 2-3 “zergs” on every map, typically with members of the larger guilds playing sentry duty to call out siege with smaller groups roaming to take/flip the camps.

The servers running one giant zerg end up losing more than they can take.

Well, yeah, I know I was a bit ramblish and incoherrent while writing that. (Still am) so I understand if you didn’t pay that much attention. I know I wouldn’t.

And yeah, we aren’t running only one big giant zerg, we are just running mainly one big giant zerg. There are people on sentry duty, there are occasionally people flipping supplycamps… but for the most of the time, I just see one big giant zerg. It’d be better if we had two zergs of 20 people rather than one zerg of 40 people, but that just doesn’t really happen as we only have one big, giant, guild dominating our WvW plans… Which means we got 5 fanboys telling everyone else to shut up when they suggest something as radical as dividing people to cap two towers at the same time. Well, again, just my personal opinion & experience.

That just sounds…blah. I’m on TC, we split our zerg up and attack multiple targets rather than traveling in a single hodge podge.

Geeze…people yelling against splitting up? It makes perfect logical sense. Heck I’ve led a few false attacks that even include siege, grab 10 people to build a catapult and slowly start knocking on a wall, being very obvious and lure the zerg to you, call out when you have their attention and watch as 2 other towers get flipped. Sure…me and those with me are guarenteed to die horribly, but getting 2 for 1 like that is always perfect. Keep a few people there (5 on each) to look for the zerg backlash while my group gets back to a wp to get back wherever we are needed.

Just with our night shift had better coverage…we lose a LOT at the peak asian hours.

That is one thing I forget, how different the servers work. Need to remember that lil tidbit when discussing WvW, thank you for that.
