Orangensaft, you just highlighted my primary problem with hotjoin as it stands…you get to pick your team. Hotjoin should be just that, hot join. Meaning you click join and it throws you on a team, you get no choice. And frankly if you leave the match you should be locked out of spvp AND wvw for an hour. Don’t want the lockout than play to win regardless of what team you are with.
There is no “practice” until you fight with your guild hall’s arena for practice and learning.
Too bad the arena uses PvE gear so it can’t be used for PvP practicing. :/
Sure it can, just have to step out of the mists from time to time. Hitting 80 is not hard in PvE and grabbing some exotics is also not hard. That’s all you need to use the arena as a perfect training ground.
I’ll play every game mode (time allowing). Never understood this obsession with never stepping out of a game mode…that’s so very limiting. If I wanted to never step foot out of small team PvP I’d play a game where that is all it had. No, I’m not great at it all, but I do enjoy my time.
Stats will still be different…. I mean you can get close, but it’s not the same.
Oh I know, but it will be good enough or practice and learning the ropes. Get a friend of the class you have issue with and play punch dummy for them so you can learn the tells for their skills and how best to dodge/deal with them. Do some duels to see how well you can work with your spec in dealing with those attacks. Move tot he next class when you think you have it.
Good enough for practice purposes. If you want real fights you would just jump back into the mists anyway.

Watch the next ranger elite be some hammer wielding monster of a melee class. Which also is not what rangers generally want (to be ranged dps monsters).
The 3rd and final of the planned elites may finally…just maybe…get rid of the kitten dable handicap of the pet. Wouldn’t that be nice? I mean, ok, I love the pets but most of the time in any challenging content that pet is a liability and we are balanced against having it as a damage source no less.
“This mode is for practice”
Yeah…no…no it is not. Hot join is just that…a quick fight with little waiting. There is no “practice” until you fight with your guild hall’s arena for practice and learning.
Any true PvP player enters PvP expecting no mercy. New or veteran players of any game, anywhere. You join a new game, you get destroyed a few dozen times till you learn your mechanics and your enemies mechanics enough to read them and get the drop on them. Just how it is.
The largest proof of a lack of communication IS the GvG community.
What was GW1? Oh, that’s right…guild fighting each other and tournament matches.
What is GW? Oh…right…the name is GUILD WARS!
What does GW2 lack? Yup…Guild Wars.
Seriously, it can NOT be that hard to set up a proper GvG queing that checks to make sure everyone that groups up is repping the same guild before they can enter the que list. The maps would even be easy to make! The GvG community wants deathmatches with no respawning…aka the rules they self enforce now! 15v15, 20v20, and 30v30….honestly don’t even need to change the maps, just make them large enough for 30v30 play.
Frostfang’s effect is very very understated compared to these new ones. I mean, making your arm see through and turn into energy? Kinda ridiculous IMO.
Give me understated or NO changes to my arms, the only one I like that does this is Juggernaut because it alters your ENTIRE armor so you still match.
Yeah… They should only award points on a stomp. Thus making the 40 v 20 make the 40 a bunch of fools because they end up killing too many and only get a few stomps at best.
However…I still firmly believe they should reward the most points for successfully defending a structure. You bring your raid, I defend against it and succeed, I should net a huge noticeable chunk of points on top of the points just for continuing to hold it. That alone would get people to stop PvDooring and get them to defend their stuff when a scout calls out a raid moving into position. This alone would bring in a bunch of PvP play.
Remember he is meaning from the ECONOMIC perspective, they are reducing the money earned at the end, this is because you would feel obligated to run as many dungeon paths as you could every day and demand the most efficient setup because you were doing so many paths. If you enjoy dungeon content its not being harmed, just the ECONOMIC incentive is being reduced.
I found myself burning out on dungeons quite a few times. I hope they reduce the SW chest farm too though.
If anything it sounds like a reason o stop stealthing past and to start clearing trash. Seen more than one person net a precursor from trash, and the bags alone will give lots of sellable mats.
I will never understand the mindset of “I don’t want anyone playing this content who doesn’t play it for the reasons I do”
You apparently don’t get it. They are trying to kill dungeons off completely.
(and this is also fairly telling about how rewarding HoT is going to be, if they have to nerf other content to be less rewarding to make HoT look favorable in comparison)I think you are going to be rather disappointed if you think this is going to restore any sort of dungeoning community.
If they want to kill those dungeons completely the special skins better start dropping in open world, or ways to earn the coinage be in the open world. Returning after a long hiatus and I still am after many of those skins.
anyone saying that gw2 is a grinfest should play certain korean games for a year xP
Aion comes to mind before the 2.0 expansion.
Want to be a top tier Chanter? Ok! Go to this single map area, pick up this specific quest, go kill the 20 groups of mobs, return to the quest giver to get…one coin. Do it two thousand more times. This being the only way to get a staff that lets you attack from 15m instead of purely at 5m. Enjoy!
Typed that out so you all knew it wasn’t a typo, yes that is a two with three zeroes at the end… THAT was a miserable grind. Nothing in GW2 compares after doing that.
Or simply build some of the old legendaries if you already completed gifts
QFT build an old legendary stat and sell it. After HoT any newly created ones will be bound to you supposedly.
This probably means they are moving to a game with very limited UW combat for the future – and I can’t say I’m upset.
One problem with this idea, one of the elder dragons is water themed, expect a LOT of underwater combat for that expansion.
ponders
So, each gen 1 legendary requires 1 gift of mastery, which we get from world completion. 2 per character. The per character is the key phrase here.
Gen 2 requires the gift of maguuma mastery, which requires “materials that can only be acquired after completing all of the Heart of Maguuma Masteries”. This is mildly perplexing, considering masteries are account bound. Do we get materials after each tier in a track, or only after mastering the whole track?
Considering there are only (currently) four mastery lines for Maguuma , will one line give enough materials for one gift, or will you need an assortment of lines? I’m sure we’ll be able to do the whole gen 2 set, I’m just curious how they are going to handle it, considering masteries aren’t repeatable per character.
Maybe, just MAYBE they will bring back the legend in legendary and you only get to have ONE.
Frankly I think the whole multi legendary thing is a problem of itself. They aren’t legendary if you can just keep crafting them. A legends stands above and beyond, we should have to make a choice and be stuck with what we make.
c) pigeonhole people with a stereotypical profession look.
This, basically. For instance, who says a Necromancer needs to look like a minion from Hell? That’s your preferred interpretation of a Necromancer look, which is quite personal. Granted, a lot of people go for that look. My 2 Necromancers fit that stereotype, but the idea of making one that looks nothing like what you’d expect has wandered around in my head for a while now (or I might just change the appearance and skins of one of them completely; I tend to do that at times). Profession based skins limit creativity and force a certain look on you. Besides, there’s no accounting for taste, so let people look horribly mismatched if they choose to. I’ve seen my fair share of those (from my perspective) and it always gives me a good laugh, or at the least a hearty chuckle.
Yep. One of the looks I’ve done on my necro was a celestial priestly thing, where she’s supposed to appear alluring and innocent on the outside, but then there’s the dark shroud part that comes out in battle.
You can really go for whatever interpretation of the class and weapons that you want. That’s one of the things I like about the extensive dyes and wardrobe in this game.
Well, human necromancers are priests of Grenth by lore. And those priests were not all doom and gloom and dark and evil…they serve important purposes in human life from funeral rights to high ceremony’s praising life (Orr mentioned this). So really, it is truer to form to look normal and approachable than it is to look like a minion from hell for humans.
Sylvari copy humans quite acutely when it comes to their interpretations of things so put them as approachable, that and the inclusive nature of their society and the belief that all things have a place. Asura treat it as just another magic discipline so really, no need to be a minion of hell here. Charr view magic as just artillery that doesn’t require shells, so again…no need for minion of hell look and infact you should look like a normal soldier. Norn? Yup…no need here either as they view necromancy as just another path to power and strength to begin your legend.
Frankly the minion of hell look is a trope forced on the necromancer from OTHER fantasy based books and such. People hear necromancer and expect that look because of what other games and books showcase them as, frankly a more approachable look for them is more lore oriented for GW and would be a refreshing change of pace.
That said I still wear the robes with the little bird skull hanging off the belt on my necromancer.
From my understanding, only those with HoT can unlock it… or you can get help from non-guild to help unlock yours. Once unlocked, the freebies will be able to go there, but a lot of it they will not have direct access to/interact with. I do not know the specific limitations though.
This is what I was expecting,
there’s no specific information on this released yet?
Nothing I’ve found, just vague at best on what exactly they will be able to interact with. Most likely? They’ll only be able to interact with the basic vendor once you unlock it and maybe the arena. The rest of it is reserved to HoT specific things. That is what I suspect anyway.

wwefan, yes…lore info and a reward track change that had the pvp community grumbling since.
never mind that EVERYONE has been haranguing them for the answer of how much HP for elite specs?! WvWers need this information like, last week.

If it is over 100 I expect a full armor set of skins, not just a single piece.
Well, you already know that’s not happening.
Yeah but I re-iterate, the game is supposed to be fun. Grinding is not fun, by any means.
Unless elite specs are supposed to be “elite” (read, more powerful) then there should be no grind or cost above normal specs.
Or gw2 leads to us destroying the dragons one at a time. After the last dragon we have a great cataclysm…just in time for gw3 and new technology/graphics updates/etc.
Either by sheer force or by the heroes eventually quitting the fight due to either exhaustion or despair (or both)?
After all, even with the best case scenario of Mordremoth’s defeat, there are still so many more elder dragons to defeat afterward.
Then things get interesting. A No-Prize to the first person who gets the following reference.
Wash, get back to piloting my ship!

GW2 is an unconventional mmorpg, hipster alike, trying hard to be different.
The problem we are looking at with the vanilla core and HoT expansion is there are no vertical progression, unlike other mmorpg with vertical progression.
Assessing whether HoT is going to be P2Win will be awkwardly different too, in a sense.Basically it will come down to this:
Will the new elites become part of the cookie cutter build (aka meta) that stomp everything else without it pvp wise?
Will the new elites become part of the cookie cutter build (aka meta) that are top builds pve and required for raid participation? Remember raid is coming, which means hc stuffs (supposedly).
If those 2 are yes, then yes, HoT is P2Win.Everything will come down to balancing.
If you want to raid you HAVE to have HoT.
Raids are a new thing, you need to buy the expansion to have the new thing.
Same with the new class, the new elite lines.
Frankly I find it is very generous they even allow non-HoT players access to Stronghold in sPvP and will let non-HoT players to even step foot into guild halls.
Seriously people, if you think this is p2w you need to go back to console games and single player RPGs. This is FAR from p2w, this is an expansion with expands upon the options available, nothing more.
I think that the thing that will force the meta is the enrage timer. If you get rid of the timer then raid groups no longer need to enforce specific professions for specific tasks so rigidly. Getting rid of the timer doesn’t get rid of any of the skill requirement, the raid will still wipe if they don’t do the right things at the right time but it will give other professions a look in … and that’s no bad thing in my opinion. Beating the raid should be about player skill, not whether or not you are playing BiS. If groups want to speed clear then more power to them, for a speed clear you’ll need the BiS professions, you’ll need full ascended, and that’s great … and something I’d be interested to see. But dropping the enrage timer while keeping the difficulty high will allow more “casual” groups to win through … they might take a few minutes longer but as long as they have the skill to deal with the challenges, I don’t see why they should be excluded.
Also please anything to get rid of the kitten zerker meta, let’s see some of the other armour types getting a look in!
Odd since of all the guilds that beat the raid boss not a single one used all zerker gear. In fact I don’t think any guild used more than 50% zerker gear. So much for your zerker meta.
Also getting rid of the enrage timer most certainly makes the fight easier and take less skill. The boss can’t kill you if your whole party is in the nomad meta. You can literally just face tank the boss and lightning damage in nomad’s gear with no threat at all. Of course killing it will take 20-30 minutes, but without an enrage timer why bother risking a wipe if you can get a guaranteed kill in 20 minutes.
I think NA was like 60% zerker, 30% Sinister 10% rabid.
This, several of those who managed to clear it posted what they used, specifically stating the zerkers to rub anet’s nose in the fact they didn’t get rid of the meta, they reinforced it!
Even if they still don’t have the pop, doesn’t matter. Pre-mades should be separate.
Less than 1 month from HoT release the raid will boil down to a repetitive stack and spank tactic with a 100% success rate.
Not sure about that, but yes eventually, it will be boiled down to its minimum parts. That happens with any content though. I’m not really sure how you get around that. Keep putting on new stuff I guess.
You get around that by giving bosses a list of 50 abilities to have 30 passive traits to have, and allow the game to pull from it what it needs at boss generation. The randomness of the boss can lead tot he ocassional nigh unkillable boss but it can also lead to bosses that need some amazing playstyles to emerge.
capes worked in gw1 due to the fact we could only play as a human race in gw2 we have charr and we all know if they made capes and a charr had one people would moan about the tail clipping through it
I’d say the tail isn’t the issue.
How to drape it over a hunchback is the issue…
Tail clipping = make the cape shorter on charr.
Hunchback = the guild backpack has a small banner that flaps on it, that lays on the backpack just fine on charr, thus they CAN rig it to not clip through the charr’s hunch.
Really there is no reason to not have them in the game. They would look infinitely better than most of the back items we have cluttering our screens as it is.
The biggest problem is burn. Burn needs to go down 20% and bleed needs to go up 20%.
This would bring down the burn giants, and bring up some of the lowly bleed based classes.
Necro in particular relies heavily on bleed making it one of the lowest dps condition classes.
Sinister engineer just needs a nerf overall, since it has high burn, high bleed, AND high direct damage.
Druid will certainly be nerfed, saw lots of videos of druids winning 4v1’s lol. Which should give a bunch of different healing options.
http://i.imgur.com/gUGC1KJ.png
Optimal rotation.
3.5k direct damage, hardly high considering
6.8k bleed DPS, yes it can spike high with shrapnel grenade even as high as 14k, but still you average down to 6.8k
8.6k burn, which is again why I say that a nerf to burn would be a slight hit to engi but with a paired bleed buff it’d balance out ok, but also help other professions raise their standings.
Lastly…. This is all theoretical. This rotation is one I haven’t seen someone able to record fully. 70% is probably what I’m able to achieve if that. I’d be impressed if anyone would even recite the rotation in order let alone pull it off.
Anyways I think the Engi hate is a bit overexaggerated by theoretical numbers. Anyone who thinks otherwise is free to record themselves pulling off the perfect rotation
It takes a lot of skill to pull off the full rotation, but there are really just 4-5 priority skills that make up 80% of that dps. Sure it is hard to get the last 20%, but you can get most of the way there with much less work.
Even still, those numbers are just crazy. Necro the “king” of bleeds can only get to ~7k sustained with 9k burst bleed. And they have to sacrifice all burning damage to get there, and they do no direct damage (about 400 dps). They do get ~1.2K dps from poison with 3k poison burst, and 1.5k torment (moving).
But they are a far cry from engineer.
You’ll never hear me disagree that Condi necro needs a serious buff in PVE (no clue in PVP, I really couldn’t care less about that game mode).
It needs it there too…
Funny part is the druids voting will have a big shocking change to deal with at launch…you will spend a lot less time in celestial form and do less healing if you don’t wear pure healing gear with the changes they have mentioned already.
Specifically that staff allowed people to go back into celestial too fast, and that base healing is going down so that you have to stack healing gear to have the same effect as the BWE3.
All legendaries will always be equivalent to the highest tier of gear (Ascended at this time).
Actually SlayerSixx, Necromancers CAN just give conditions from their very being with Reaper (chill and vulnerability and even burn if you trait it right just from being within 400-500 range of them while in shroud). Becoming a walking condition field of fun that pulses every second.
To add to what Kharr said…those that buy HoT get he perks of it, including those champions. You want the perks? Buy the game and help pay for future content!
soloq fight soloq, premade fight premade. if premades whine about time, tell them to beg others to premake.
However…I find the whole choosing what team you are on, choosing the map, and allowing the viewers to jump intot he game they are watching a problem (they should be tagged to join any game BUT the one they are watching).
We need more random, tossed together, here you are, fight…and less. “this isn’t the map I want” “I couldn’t get on a team with <name>” crap we have now.
I miss the hotjoin we had BEFORE private servers and such. No getting to choose your team…no spectators, no map vetos. You choose hotjoin and are thrown into a random map with random people on random teams. THAT is how hotjoin SHOULD function.
Spectators should be a different que function that lets you watch a random match while waiting on your own hotjoin que…you will NEVER be joining the match you are watching.
Bam…hotjoin fixed.
Well, WvW has long been grumbling about lack of an income compared to PvE…this is one way to make up for it.
though I found it funny, it blocks the view and will be annoying in the long run, so I think it shouldn’t be a part of GW2.
some bugs really have humour. It does not block the view more, then the big wings do.
I’m going to agree with Devata on this, the wings visually bother me (I want to stab/burn every single pair of wings I run into) way more than the giant pets.
Add my agreement.
They need to just remove wings from the game.
… and where are our capes? GW1 was capable of flowing capes with guild emblems on them…can you seriously tell me a game with a stronger graphic engine cannot do it as well?
You will find classes being shoehorned into one or two builds by the meta. Which will change as balancing happens.

Reaper’s Lore is tied up with Rytlock…his explanation will BE the Reaper lore.
I think you just miss typed revenant there bud
I totally did, utter fail on my part haha.
That WAS supposed to be revenant…I need to not talk to people while I type…
The wings are a bit ridiculous most of the time.
Why can’t we have simple capes/cloaks?!
If you want money, you have to farm. If raiding is truly good…you will lose money doing it even if you have no deaths. That’s what raiding is. A challenge to defeat for unique looking gear…not to make money. You farm to make money.
I’m thinking you didn’t play with the traits then. I found myself nigh unkillable as a reaver… snip
I would say it depends greatly on what you’re idea of fun is. I didn’t play Reaver nor Druid… snip
Don’t get why you brought Firefly up at all, but okkkaaayyy…
And to each his own. I did find Reaver to be a lot of fun. Not my fault that you didn’t. shrugs
Guys guys guys… wow. Right over your heads! Please do not criticize something you do not get, especially if you’re the one that’s at fault.
REAVERS are men driven crazy that live at the edges of the border planets in the show Firefly. And no, they are not awesome. They will kitten you to death, eat your flesh, and sew your skin into their clothing. And if you’re really really lucky, they’ll do it in that order.
REAPERS are the elite profession you’re looking for in Guild Wars 2.
Nice job.
The pun isn’t funny if it has to be explained…
It’s Reaper btw, not Reaver. That’s your Firefly reference.I enjoyed the Reaver play-style… snip
I’m glad you two get it at least. =P
Oh, I got it mate, have a model of Serenity sitting on my TV cabinet.
I just went with it, besides…the necro gs skills/new shroud skills thematically look like the reaver tales spacers tell the local yokels. That and half the time I end up calling it reaver anyway when talking with people haha.

Reaper’s Lore is tied up with Rytlock…his explanation will BE the Reaper lore.
Put the character’s name on it.
If you see X’s Trebuchet Build Site when everyone’s putting down Flame Rams, you’ll know exactly who’s responsible.
Have a report function specifically for this issue, get X reports in Y amount of time, and you get a cooldown period where you can’t deploy siege. You can still build and operate siege normally. You just can’t deploy it.
THIS! Put the name of who deployed the siege weapon on the siege weapon, no matter how long it lives their name should be on it.
Get a bunch of reports and bam, they cannot deploy siege (the entire account) for x amount of time… preferably in the 24h per infraction level. Anything less and frankly you aren’t actually going to cause any effect.
A new catch with the base game being free? Free accounts cannot deploy siege. Gotta buy the box. You solve another problem here.
Frankly the orb should grey out your entire skill bar and be replaced with a single 1 skill (put down orb). So all you can do is move, jump, and dodge with the orb…that’s it. You want to fight back? You have to put the orb down manually.
Also all traits stop functioning while you have the orb. No auto healing, no cleansing/damaging/etc while dodge rolling, no speed boosts, etc…etc…
Yes…you are holding an orb, you should be horribly kitten while in a battlefield and lugging something around. Your TEAM should be required to protect you/heal you.
Fully agree, if you leave early, or barely participate at all, you should receive a dishonor that locks the whole account from sPvP for a LONG time. Talking 12h+.
Add a code that registers an actual crash or if the fkeys are hit at all so alt+f4 can be punished by an account lockout of a week in sPvP AND WvWvW…no PvP for the force quiters!.
Same goes for PvP guilds also.
stronghold.
Everybody gets access to stronghold, not just those with HoT.
This is correct, the same goes for the new WvW map.
Not quite correct, people with the expansion have to unlock it first going by how they worded it. So if your whole guild doesn’t buy it…you are SOL.
The large bristlebacks looked hilarious when they stood up on their hind legs and looked around.
Reaver is great.
Hello fellow browncoat. Binge watched some Firefly recently, have we?
Btw, Reavers are NOT great.
I’m thinking you didn’t play with the traits then. I found myself nigh unkillable as a reaver, purposefully going out of my way to get into riskier and riskier situations. Even standing in the fire of the ancient wyvern while attacking away.
These things are capable of being facetanks without a lot of effort and it is glorious.
This usually isn’t so much a brightness problem as a glare problem. Even if you dull the brightness of it significantly it will still effect you. Those who have the right (or wrong) connections with their eye will still experience this. It is a combination of effects that create it but they usually call it a glare headache and it is an atmosphere problem.
I had this problem with the light reflecting off the water in Aion on certain maps.
If your monitor has a light sensitivity mode (I know most ACER monitors do) use it and the filtering will break up those effects some to ease your eyes.
Note: it isn’t perfect and won’t make it totally go away.
