Sure, you can make a lion. But it will still clip through 90% of things. So why bother?
Because this setup is just the easiest way to play this game.
Majority of players will always migrate to the easiest ways of playing possible. Just look at zerging, stacking, following every guide they ckittene. MMO problem.
But I can agree that it’s way more visible in GW2 than in other MMOs I’ve played.
To be honest, I don’t find GW2 leveling system that revolutionary. Sure, there are some cool events, but the fact that most of them are very repetitive doesn’t help.
Maybe that’s just me, but after finishing most of DEs once, choking every possible piece of lore and mechanics out of them, I’m not interested in repeating them, tbh.
Also, when I see a zerg following “commanders” and then empty zone because everyone is following the blob, makes me sick.
First, deal with “farm” pvp custom servers. Then we can talk.
Stick to the rule that you don’t even look at bows and you can be okay.
I play my trapper build in tpvp sometimes (in another thread) and occasionaly, my BM hybrid in spvp for fun from time to time.
Waiting for better days.
As for Necros: They just don’t fit in meta. Sure, you may be bursted with basic condition rotation even by a newbie, but the truth is, after you learn basics of Necro gameplay, we have very little tricks in our sleeves in current meta. And we have to build for 1v1 just to survive. The entire Necromancer profession is based around ability timing and rotations.

Sadly, Thieves laugh at our Chill.
Unless Thief profession suddenly becomes unpopular or it’s fixed to affect them, I won’t run Chilling builds.
That’s mkay build I guess, you can have some fun with it. But it isn’t anything innovative or working better than my regular builds, so I won’t call it a day.
Honestly, back in 2012 I picked up Necro for the Epidemic skill as I loved the concept. After AoE nerfs and this skill being a little bit underwhelming in tPvP where Necro has to either go PvE wells or build for 1v1 to survive, I’m still using my Necro for open world solo PvE.
However, the thrill of the profession is slowly fading for me. So many missed oportunities, regular kicks from dungeons despite running them as meta as possible just for not being braindead warrior, guardian or ele…
The very cool concept of resource/energy/health management is more and more often just landing or not landing combo and running away from teamfights.
I’m just slowly burning out. I achieved various things on my necro, often working twice as hard as other professions, both in PvP and PvE. But I miss the depth and feeling of being a Necromancer.
I always liked rough, brutal designs without flashy effects. If those new weapons did not have flashy auras, I would buy them.
Since they do, meh, another weapon for wannabe anime fairies.
Sure. With current dynamic releases and pace of Living World, maybe around 2024.
Beacause human female heavy armors show less body and breasts than medium and light armor.
I don’t know how you didn’t manage to catch the idea of getting onto wall. I mean, there’s a dialogue, constantly spawning mobs in the middle, warning from NPC to NOT cross the middle, mobs along the wall path and freaking big green arrow.
Think for a while. I fear the day when you try one of older RPGs and find out that there’s absolutely no arrow, mark, minimap or tips.
As for the boss fight : some AoE healing for minions is quite good and Boss himself favorises burst power builds.
Ley Line Axe looks nice. Apart from that I dislike flashy fairy-like design of others but I really love some of new craftable weapons’ designs.
They remind me of Ahn’Quraji
It’s high time for another Feature patch, really. They were said to appear every 3-4 months and there’s a deadline ahead.
After that, I would be pleased with new dungeon and no asura inquest.
Jew Mochalke will read it backwards. Point invalid.
Who’s Belinda, then? You mean, that plant decoration ?
Ekhm… Who’s Drobutt ?
I second that. New battle music which would fit the new zones is really, really needed. Old ones are very repetitive and so widely used, don’t have the zone “flavour”. With new composers and darker story-telling new battle music would be a great move.
Because they don’t feel like needing them.
We don’t seem to act like any member of the military force, like Pact so far tbh.
We’re like “super amazing pack of friends” dealing with dragon as a part-time hobby instead threat to entire world.
I guess, if we still were commanders, we would first report situation to the Pact, then bring the military force with soldiers, artilery and logistics. And completly ignore our pack of NPC fantastic buddies for our own good.
OP, that made me spit my tea.
He must have got really high because those apples
Mental state of my Charr when in and out of the machine: http://youtu.be/WeYsTmIzjkw
I’m not going to lie, once I saw Fort Salma swarmed up I thought that finally, either Kasmeer or Marjory is dead.
Instead, some NPC we barely even known got herself killed and… well, not much. It was same reaction as for hung quaggan “oh, these vines look quite cool”.
If ANet could hung all Inquest instead I would at least cheer and be grateful. I hate those rats.
Another death, another “meh, okay, I didn’t care anyway”.
Crafting humanoid race npc, like human will be always more dull than Charr NPC for me. Learn from Tybalt.
Chemotherapy. Our character is Breaking Bad like Walter White. Next LS you’ll also have a beard and then earn a lot of gold for cooking meth for little asuran children, eventually making them to die out and thus balancing tPvP by removing Asuras from it.
i dunno since i only play warrior mostly nowadays.
what is warrior’s profession mechanic by the way?
adrenaline? Why are you even posting in this thread if you don’t know what a class mechanic is?
I think you did’t quite catch the ball, sir.
Signet of Renewal is a stunbreak, together with Shared Anguish
Keeping on the design oversights topic – male norn have no nipples.
And why do male humans have nipples again? To me, that’s the oversight! :P
Do Human Males even exist? Haven’t seen one in a while. I thought there are only Female Humans.
Btw, OP: Leylines, Magic, Sylvari or Magitech. Pick one or two, you’ll have fine answer.
Although I don’t know how exactly Necromancers are treated among the Charr, I made one and I think that at least this one “caster” is tolerated, as you can see many Ash Legion Charrs using necromantic spells like Life Siphon.
Personally, I use that. Three traps, when it sounds fun and Chilling trap can be powerful with your projectile finisher set (Axe+Dagger), you can take only 2 in my opinion. Third slot is a stunbreak. Signet most of the times, but can be also Reflex if enemy runs thieves only (?).
If you want more control, you can replace either Flame or Spike trap with Freezing trap, but well…. It’s surely amazing against fotm D/D facerolling eles, because every chill will be helpful once they swap out of water.
But let’s be honest, you’ll mostly engage Thieves. Chill is broken on them and you need pressure. So I take damage.
Forget about bows. They’re piece of morning delight.
You can choose your pet though. I like River Drake because it cleaves AI clutter, has F2 taking half of mesmer’s/engineer’s health and is very durable.
Other options are Spiders and Pigs. I wouldn’t suggest DPS pets like birds or cats because they die quickly, die from your Bond and won’t hit anything if they’re slowed anyway. Dead weight on this setup.
Sometimes I really miss lore just written down as texts and Beastiaries.
While theorycrafting is okay, having that little solid informations can be annoying and hard to believe it was planned.
Thieves have ever been, are and will be meta for PvP. It’s second class after bunker guard which remains here since beta.
Currently, there’s always place for one or two thieves in Pvp team. S/D can be incredibly powerful because of boonstrip and double proc sigils with tons of mobility, evades and other whack stuff. Not UP, for sure.
You don’t have a limit. You can have Ogre’s pet, ember, two hyenas and rune bird at the same time.
Seems like after two years people break eventually :P
Yes, we need Control, Kiting, Damage and Utility. The “Holy Quattro” of every “Ranger/Hunter Bow” design. In this particular order.
You made me spit my coffee today. Well played OP, good laughs!
Also, that build is simply amazing! Now I’m unkillable with my fantastic Vampiric Rituals, no Consume Conditions and wonderful “two steps foward, one step back to avoid” wells ! Jeez, thanks!
Are you seriously trying to say that the Ranger profession isn’t iconic and known to be “range based”. Just because it has the ability to use melee weapons, doesn’t mean that its a primary weapon type for the profession. …. That because of cheap combat/game mechanics the Ranger now has to melee and view its bows as equally cheap toys?
I’m not a Ranger main… but I feel the need to speak up for them in this.
Ranger melee weapons were not created as “primary” weapons. If you take a look at Greatsword and Sword you’ll see that these weapons have very strong defensive factor included in skills.
They both have some mobility but also a lot of evades, blocks.
In case of Greatsword, we see it pretty clearly. Auto-attack having evade, a short cd block with knockback+optional cripple, mobility, small CC(pet connected) and one burst ability.
In case of Sword, two of three abilities are defensive. Chain attack was most likely designed for Beast Mastery since it cripples (making pet land hits against mobile targets) and buffs it with Might. It doesn’t stack vulnerability, apply DoTs.
Second ability has nothing to do with damage. It’s a short cd evade with bonus cripple, second time. With Leap. How many on-demand combo fields does ranger have ? Water Field. So Leap through Water field, healing you and your pet, stationary, perfect for fighting with chain attack inside it.
Third ability, longer evade and poison. Tell me that it isn’t defensive.
Conclusion: Ranger’s weapons were designed as secondary, defensive melee option in mind. At least when they were created. Not “primary offensive weapons”. It’s just that during some part of development, someone took a coffee break when designing a Ranger. It’s still going, seems like
We should maybe increase boon range a little in non-instanced PvE. This needs some future updates.
However, inside instanced PvE I see no reason why small boon range should be a requirement. It doesn’t serve any big purpose and successfully keeps the ranged combat outside of dungeons.
Why that range cannot be 1500 for example? I mean, maybe not boons spreadable across whole dungeon, but the small range requirement is just archaic.
It doesn’t stop bearbows from standing outside of boon range anyway. So we might just increase the range so they don’t hamper the group dps that much and actually get boons too.
I believe that ANet by the time of 2 years already knows some tricks how to engage ranged combat into the fight, given there are hundreds of possible mechanics in other games.
I would say:
Best Single/Small Group Healer: Necromancer. By far. If you have allies in front of you your Renewing Blast may be enough for them to facetank many things. Over 1400 spammable heal still doing okay damage + 100% uptime on regen, burst heals with Life Transfer, supporting party by cleansing conditions on regular basis not even counting Well of Blood. + Can survive many, many things on it’s own.
Best Group/Zerg Healer: Elementalist. No doubt. Water Fields, unique healing HoT, 47,5% increased outgoing healing and much more.
Best Support: Guardian. That’s a support profession. Also, the easiest to heal/support with.
I feel that the general thought after Chill condition and chilling builds for Necromancers and Rangers is awesome as it promotes more “attrition” fights instead “in your face” button smashing.
However, as it has been discussed many times, the Thief profession makes chilling builds not that really viable.
Chill doesn’t really affect them since it only extends cds on utilities.
And as a bonus, 90% of thieves run quick 15 s cd heal which removes all movement imparing effects, including Chill.
AK hype! Everyone vote for our favorite static discharge engy and the pioneer of the yolo elementalist! Also Marvin is awesome too. This seems fun, I hope the right people get in!
Congrats on the Gamescom victory EU.
I’d rather lose with fun people than win with jerks.
Although I’m on EU I very much second this.
And yes, I want EU to win but I don’t want to watch all-asura show of fotm meta builds.
That would be not interesting. And I believe that majority of viewers feel the same
Btw. I’d have some spare votes for all-stars playing Charrs. Anyone?
(edited by Rym.1469)
You got my vote not only because of your ambition and work you’ve done for GW2 community, but mostly because my choosing dice rolling picked you up :P
Voted yesterday. You were among the special ones I didn’t roll the dice to choose
Also, let it be the anthem of your stream:

Resource management is, imho, core of good MMO.
It opens up so much possibilities, is easier to balance and prevents spamming.
GG WP, learn2powernecro.
Proudly represent!
EU: Sizer, Tage, Niah(!), PHD (Ah that tunnel comp
), Rolled the dice for the rest.
NA: Zombify (!),Phantaram(!), Rolled the dice for the rest.
:)
I want to see fellow Necromancers and Rangers, c’mon! :P
Weather effects in general.
ArenaNet wants to create a Living World yet they miss on things which are more than a decade old.
Rains, storms, darker nights, foggy days, sunny days, blizzards, sandstorms. Or take it even further to landslides/floods.
If the world is called “Living” then it should live. Not only by weather alone , but NPC reacting to it.
People running to shelter/under roof when it rains, lightning torches when it’s dark, extinguishing the fires caused by lightnings.
Like why medics in Dry Top don’t use any paravan to close their tent during sandstorms?
Things like that were in first Gothic, released over 11 years ago. Get on with it and make your Living World truly living.
Guild Wars has lore. A plenty of it. And 3 expansions.
I’m after AK-47 kit. Automatic fire ftw for deserts/sands/mud in next releases.
There’s a reason why this weapon was so good in Vietnam, Afganistan.
My son
The day you were born, the very forests of Lordaeron whispered the name… Arthas.
My child
I watched with pride as you grew into a weapon of righteousness.
Remember, our line has always ruled with wisdom and strength,
and I know you will show restraint when exercising your great power.
But the truest victory, my son, is stirring the hearts of your people.
I tell you this, for when my days have come to an end,
You shall be King.
Sadly, you’ll have to wait till Crystal Desert for real wasteland. We’re going into more green areas soon.
