I thought everyone was expecting this nerf anyways. What’s the upset about?

Who actually stood in the BP for anything other than HS for stealth in WvW or sPvP? No decent player falls for walking into it, so it was really only used in PvE for certain challenges. It seems like a pointless nerf to me…unless you’re telling me players in sPvP are that foolish enough to step into it.

Question about the choking gas “hit on strike” thing. Does that mean it’s going to cause revealed now if it hits in an enemy group? Because if so, you’ve effectively killed the skill for any thief in stealth. The skill itself is rather useless unless you have Signet of Malice in PvE or WvW, and we all know any build with that skill is going to be dependent on multiple strikes and defense to take the blows they’re receiving DURING those strikes.

Wait, does that mean with Choking Gas if I use it while in stealth, it will give me revealed? That’s such BS, I only used it in WvW for those quick regens on enemy zergs with Signet of Malice. What was the point of that? It was already useless in PvP mostly, and didn’t need to be touched in PvE.

So gloomy stormclouds caused that dispersing pattern? The one that fans out right from the spot where Zhaitan was sitting?

I always figured that was the path his minions took across the land and into the water, up into Tyria. Have any of you guys seen the water at the northern most spot of Malchor’s Leap? It’s pitch black, and it literally gave me a chill and made me sick to my stomach the first time I saw it.

Why are thieves wanting to nerf their own class!??!

A x 6 6 x x D/P thief is not a problem in the least.

In fact one could reliably make the statement that the strongest trait line for a thief is the trickery line.

As for the d/d thieves complaining about d/p thieves….learn to use your 3 and 4 keys. Also try slotting scorpion wire for a fight or two

A high crit, high defense stealth setup isn’t a problem with a D/P thief? Do you expect D/P thieves to NOT backstab or stealth spam?

Due to the imbalanced and dangerous state thief is in, one major change can flip everything on its side. Hell, just changing something like Black Powder’s field from smoke to dark can shift all balance of power in the profession, moreso than in others. We will either see them take a chance and change something for what they hope is the better, or they’ll do slight tweaks to existing skills without any major changes to our class meta. I’m nervous about the first one, but I’d rather have that then dancing around the issue.

^I don’t think the gods would care too much that Rytlock was a charr. Charr legends believe (falsely) that Melandru created Tyria, so the charr acknowledge the power of the human gods. But as we know, the charr believe that everything can be killed, everything can be conquered, that nothing is immortal. I have no doubt the human gods would not care that a charr was in the Hall of Heroes, as anybody can be recognized as one if they meet the requirements, which the attempted slaying of one Elder Dragon and the successful slaying of another have met those. I do however expect us to see our Order mentors in there, they deserved it after Claw Island, and I expect to see Snaff there, he definitely deserves to be there.

Why are the npc's calling me "boss"?

“Boss” was a poor choice of words, but i understand why they used it. It’s a word that’s being used, to acknowledge that the player is the center of the story. The problem though, is that the word “boss”, can be taken as an authoritative figure, such as an employer. “Leader”, or “Commander”, or any military designation would’ve been better, since the story is involving campaigns in a “war” against Modremoth.

Who says we won’t get that name back once we get back into our Dragon Slaying ways? I have no doubt Trahearne will want us in charge again, at which point we’ll be called Commander once more and the group will have to start calling us this, probably with Brahm mentioning “this will take some getting use to.”

I don’t think you know how necroing works.

You are not allowed to post in threads that have been “dead” (as in no new posts) for 30 days. Not threads that are 30 days old.

But 29 days is ok? Right… Seriously it’s ridiculous.

Except this is how most forum sites do it, don’t act like this is some travesty that only Anet is doing when this is business as usual for over 80% of forum boards.

I have NEVER seen an ascended weapon or armor drop, let alone one with stats I actually want.

Crafting is the only viable option to get them.

I fail to see the problem here.

You yourself have to craft them, they’re account-bound on creation, aren’t they? I’d personally like it if they were sellable on the TP like precursors and legendaries (which are essentially ascended).

Rytlock opens UW up again(spoilers)

I may be just getting happy for nothing, as my imagination is bigger than all out doors.

I am hoping that Rytlock following The Sword Sohothin, will eventually bring on a quest, that we will have to force open the UW and/or FoW to go after him.

Then all shall rejoice after that story completes, and we can go back into UW and FoW as the new 10 to 20 man Raid style dungeons are Re Imagined using the GW2 engine.

Come on you know you want this to happen, just a little.

I love it! Great imagination indeed.

Personally, I’d like to see Prince Rurik play some sort of role in it as well since he could be in the UW (or Hall of Heroes) and Rytlock is looking for Rurik’s sword. Maybe he helps him out to save Ascalon from the swords curse one day down the road? He and his father didn’t exactly see eye to eye.

I doubt Rurik will see a Charr and say "oh yes here have my sword…Never forget the Searing! Then again maybe if the charr explains that his Daddy laid the Foefire curse, he might be like Oh I will help anyway I can.

Unless of course we enter to encounter the two of them arguing, Rurik recognizes us as having the same ‘aura’ as the PC from GW1, and immediately takes our word for the gospel truth. Or he believes Rytlock simply because he feels Sohothin wouldn’t choose a bad wielder.

Yeah I never got why they changed it to 4 seconds for PvP…just bring it down to 3 seconds.

It was originally changed since thieves were wrecking anybody who tried to stand on a point or tried to get to one. With the extra second, people were able to start fighting back better, so they kept it like that. But with all the thief nerfs since then for sPvP only, I think it may be time to put it back to 3 seconds.

You’re right in that Rangers do not have a single build that is incredibly strong; nor, might I add, do they have a build that another profession can’t do better. This is the precise reason Rangers are unwanted in PvE

The only reasons rangers are unwanted in PvE are 1) people’s lack of knowledge about what ranger can bring and 2) ranger players own lack of knowledge about what their class can do.

I thought it was the lack of group support options outside of spirits (which are easily killed) and shouts through that one trait in the Nature Magic line.

If we changed more than the field from smoke to dark, there’s a chance of the move becoming too OP or too useless. Just a change to the field gets rid of the main annoyance of the D/P set (easy stealth), while keeps its usefulness as a blinding field and a quick blind on the enemy. This change also strengthens P/P by giving it the one thing that weapon set needs, some sustain (through projectile finishers that leech life) to make up for the lack of escape moves. Though to be honest, I would prefer the initiative being dropped to 5 instead of 6 if the field was changed.

While P/P would finally become a viable weapon set if #5 became a dark field, D/P would be destroyed imo. Like I stated before, would you or anyone use D/P if #5 was changed to a dark field?

I am not arguing that the on demand stealth is not the problem, it is, and the blind spam just adds to the problem. This is because once the thief is out of stealth and can be seen, players are hit with blinds making that 3 second window of revealed a lot safer for the thief. I think that on demand stealth needs to be nerfed hard, or both the on demand stealth and the blind spam both need to be dialed back a bit.

I never use D/P outside of certain PvE fights (such as that hylek on the little canyon top in Dry Top) to begin with, and when I do use the set it’s for the blinding field. If I’m fighting in WvW, I stick with D/D for my stealth purposes (due to the high risk/reward for it). If I’m fighting most things in PvE, I stick with P/P because you don’t really need stealth abuse in PvE.

I do however see your point about the weapon set being declared useless by the players. But like S/P, the set really had no use outside of close ranged DPS purposes to begin with until people discovered the spammy nature of BP -> HS.

Was there something mentioned about pet changes to prevent them from getting killed in a few seconds in the middle of a zerg vs zerg battle?

Or even better, that aspect feature so we can stow pets?

They would really need to make an amendment for PvE/WvW that decreases the amount of damage the pet takes by 50%. That alone would make a lot of difference. Besides, I think we all know people aim for the Ranger first in WvW, not the pet.

i hope they explain how rytlock got sohothin, i hate how rytlock when ask by our PC how he got the sword he said irrelevant. kitten give us some lore. that what makes any story interesting.

I saw that an immediately thought ‘oh wow! Anet knows what we’ve been thinking this whole time!’

And then rytlock says irrelevant.

You could easily replace that dialog with a rickroll :’(

$5 says they explain it through the next parts of Dragon’s Reach. Hell, a “the sword chooses its owner and magically appears before them” explanation would work after the end of this episode.

I do agree with you that D/P stealth should not be so easy and I do understand that it generates all the QQ for thief. If that is going to happen with D/P than should it need a buff? I really don’t know if it should or not… maybe lessen the initiative of #5? Or maybe have the projectile from #5 steal life (which I guess it would since its a dark field).

Another question we have to ask ourselves is “Would you play D/P after the nerf.” I hate D/P the current way it is since it is easy mode so I don’t care if its nerfed to the ground. I never planned on using it anyways. Most of us are blinded (Haha D/P) by the hatred for D/P and don’t care if it stays a viable set after the nerf we want.

We need some D/P player feedback in here to see if they would still use D/P after the nerf.

Which Order did you join?

IMO Whispers is the one order where rangers don’t really fit in. I went with Priory, they even have a rank which seems to be mostly occupied with ranger NPC’s – Explorer. Vigil would be also a good choice.

Whispers fit IMO. Rangers are scouts, with keen eyes so they can see afar, and a pet which they could probably attach something small to in order to check enemy locations and whatnot. They’d work well in any order, since Whispers can use them as spies, Vigil can use them as scouts to get a location of the enemies, and Priory can use them to help find rare animals, plants, etc to keep safe or examine for new knowledge into the world.

I was heard, and the wisdom I required was I was told to be quiet.

Joining a conversation and bumping long-dead threads with developer posts in them as an attention-seeking tactic are two entirely different things. A few people decided to start digging through the forum and bumping old topics, not to contribute to conversations there or post new and insightful comments to breathe new life into the topic, but to be disruptive and to try and “prove a point”. Since asking nicely rarely seems to work with the people engaging in this behavior, I made the sticky post explicitly telling everybody to stop, under threat of infraction, suspension and ultimately banning. If there’s a topic you actually wish to discuss, then please open a thread (if an active one does not currently exist) and do so. This is not a new limitation on what you can talk about, just a request to stop the disruptive necroposting.

I understand your frustrations and desire to hear from developers about what’s under development, I really do. However, as I said in the other thread I posted in today, we are unable to comment on features under development until they reach a state where we, as a company, are comfortable talking about them. So, when you ask “are you working on x” or “what’s the status of y”, we can’t comment.

Being disruptive on the forums (in old or new threads), making rude or demanding posts and posting comments like “there is no WvW team anymore” are hardly an endearing method that encourages our developers to post more. I would ask that you take this into consideration when posting as well.

Again I can assure you, the developers are reading the forums regularly, even though they don’t have time to post a reply to everything they read. Additionally, as I read these forums probably more than anybody here, I regularly compile reports for the competitive team to make sure they are up to speed on your concerns and desires. Does this mean your every wish will be granted? No, it does not. What it does mean is that the team is regularly being made aware of how the community feels about the game and what features, content, etc. that you like, dislike or want to see in the future. What it also means is that we take note of when you all ask for or suggest a feature that is currently under development, so that down the line, when it’s actually released and a bunch of people clamor to the forums to complain that “nobody asked for this” (you know who you are), we can refer back and be secure in the knowledge that somebody did, in fact, ask for it.

Now, this post has ended up way longer than I intended it to be. I don’t expect what I’ve said here to cause a sudden change in the tone or content of the posts on this forum. What I do expect is your understanding that we’re not just sitting here twiddling our thumbs and I haven’t enacted this rule against necroposting as some sinister method to justify shutting down the WvW forum. WvW is one of the core game types of Guild Wars 2, and as long as we have forums and I have something to say about it, we will have a place for WvW discussion.

You’re now my favorite of the Anet team. Well written, well said, and it feels like a post that I wish could be stickied at the top of every CDI or discussion thread started by you guys. Also, would it be possible to program something that automatically locks a thread after 30 days of no posting in it here on the forums in order to prevent the necroposting?

Anyway back to D/P… the two strengths of D/P is insane blinds and on demand stealth. The #5 skill offers both of these which is why it should be the target of nerfs. Without the stealth from the smoke field + HR there is no point to the weapon set. Nerfing the on demand stealth will destroy the build and make it completely unusable. Dagger main-hand relies on stealth to do the majority of its damage with backstab.

There is still a point to the weapon set without the stealth. It’s called close ranged annoyance. Anything that gets close to you will end up still getting blinded by the field while you have free reign to wreck them completely. The less stealth spam we have on our weapon sets, the better it is for us because the QQ about thief will stop, people will start seeing our limited survivability outside of stealth, and Anet can start buffing instead of nerfing. Not to mention I really don’t think we should have access to such easy stealth (outside of utilities) without easy counters (such as how easy it is to counter CnD).

I just think this whole crown piece collecting was so lame done it makes me cry.

Such a legendary crown is randomly spread out for whatever reason and all you did was checking the map for the next green star and search a pile of rubble.

Anticlimatic, boring, badly done.

I originally thought they were going to send us across the map, with a bunch of riddles to give us hints on where to go. But it was too…obvious. Kind of lame tbh.

Just change Black Powder’s field from Smoke to Dark. It keeps the joyous blinding, but removes the easy stealth which is what most players complain about.

Complaints about ranger (greatsword) changes

1- greatsword is a power weapon. it used to have bleeding on maul, and it was freaking useless. i’m pretty sure everyone liked it when they changed maul to apply vulnerability. power stab getting a buff is in line with most autoattacks, where the third strike hits harder than the first two. and power stab is “spent” whether you hit or not, since it has that evade, unlike most third AA skills.

2- see: “greatsword is a power weapon, there was much rejoice when bleeds got taken out of the skill”

Actually, there were a ton of complaints when the bleeding was taken out because the bleed was a 3-5 stack before, which meant it could really do some damage. The change to it being vulnerability actually dropped the “burst” it had before, but it evens out if during the time that vulnerability is up, if all AA from the greatsword hits the enemy (which most of the time it doesn’t). It felt like a bad trade off.

I have a sneaking suspicion we need Rurik himself to fix this, and the sword was fully aware of that, opening a portal to the underworld because it is trying to return to its rightful owner. So within the next few weeks we will travel there ourselves to get Rytlock back, only to meet Rurik, who will probably mention the PC’s similarities to the GW1 PC, and help us. Of course this also means we have to probably make a deal with Grenth to get this done, and there’s no telling what he’ll want in exchange.

That would be awsome. Hopefully Anet reads this and if they have something different in mind change it to this. As gw1 player i could live with that in contrast to Rytlok solving this on his own.

there’s only one problem;

All the gods are MIA. And if you say “they can come back.” That would be a HORRIBLE idea. The dragons go for the strongest source of magic, and any god that comes back would have a big “EAT ME” sign over their head.

I figured they stayed in their own realms. You DO meet Grenth during the Order of Whispers side of the Orrian Invasion personal story quests after all. He helps you out there and then goes back to his realm.

In WvW the Mesmer currently only has two uses:

1. Veilbot
2. Portalbot

That is the extent of their effectiveness in WvW.

Now if only phantasms weren’t nerfed back then into suddenly requiring LoS.

I’m glad you guys have some actual effectiveness in WvW, unlike Ranger which has 0 ability in a zerg. I have a feeling if they fixed all of the Mesmer’s bugs you guys would probably go up to the “in a good place tier” since some of the skills would be incredibly powerful without those bugs.

Well, you have a spot for 2-3 Mesmers. It almost doesn’t matter how big the zerg is. You even hurt zerg dmg output, if the numbers of mesmers relative to the rest of the zerg becomes too high… Of course the mesmer has a defined “role”. But seriously, it feels kinda demeaning sometimes. I once asked the Zerg commander, if he wants me to run pure glamor, or glamor/shatter with boon stripping or pure shatter with boon stripping. The answer was something like: “Don’t care, take portal and veil”…

Stick with guildies and whomever is commanding the raid, they tend to have more knowledge on Mesmer builds (or at least the ones I run with do).

I have a sneaking suspicion we need Rurik himself to fix this, and the sword was fully aware of that, opening a portal to the underworld because it is trying to return to its rightful owner. So within the next few weeks we will travel there ourselves to get Rytlock back, only to meet Rurik, who will probably mention the PC’s similarities to the GW1 PC, and help us. Of course this also means we have to probably make a deal with Grenth to get this done, and there’s no telling what he’ll want in exchange.

Does this mean we get to enter there and see Grenth? I liked him the most out of the human gods after meeting him in the PS. He seems like a “down to earth” god who doesn’t really care who he helps as long as they do it to face evil. Haven’t gotten far enough to meet him in GW1, so that’s the only basis I have for him.

Nice job with that, finished the LS episode today. But please, avoid open world events like this if possible for the LS, they make it harder on you and us since one screw-up in the code (I know how easy it is to make an error in code that screws up everything, : instead of ; for an example) can lock everybody out.

In WvW the Mesmer currently only has two uses:

1. Veilbot
2. Portalbot

That is the extent of their effectiveness in WvW.

Now if only phantasms weren’t nerfed back then into suddenly requiring LoS.

I’m glad you guys have some actual effectiveness in WvW, unlike Ranger which has 0 ability in a zerg. I have a feeling if they fixed all of the Mesmer’s bugs you guys would probably go up to the “in a good place tier” since some of the skills would be incredibly powerful without those bugs.

I don’t even notice the animation doing them. Then again, I’ve done every JP in the game as a Charr, so I’m just used to their movement and timing.

I /salute you, sir. You are a soldier of incredible skill and patience.

I think I’m more ticked off at this point that the devs continue to design their jumping puzzles for smallest-possible-height Asura, with absolutely no account for max-size large races like Norn and Charr.

Back during the first Wintersday I ran the JP multiple times, at least 8 hours worth of tries before I managed to get that JP done. During that time I started getting used to doing it as a Charr and managed to get some of the more advanced JP movements down. Leave it to the 2nd hardest JP in the game to get that skill into you.

Shadow’s Rejuvenation. While Assassin’s Reward sounds good on paper due to the healing with initiative, the problem is that any good thief will be taking down an opponent fast in WvW or sPvP. So you’re using far too little initiative for the trait to be worth it IMO.

The only problem I really have with this episode is the open world events. That’s it, and only because you could be there for the event, yet not do enough damage to get credit (due to zerg mania) and have to do it again. We should be escaping from Zergs Anet, not enforcing them.

I’m not sure why people are criticizing this post, it’s pretty valid. Don’t insult people that feel burned by their purchases or else they’ll never purchase again, which is obviously bad for the game.

The kites should be patched to have equivalent boosts, or a way to upgrade them in-game.

I never bought my kite, they gave it to me for free last year for buying all those collection expanders.

Being a very low level programmer I can attest to how easy it is for a bit of code to get broken by a variable you where not ready for.

This could be anything from the mass amount of people doing the event to kitten nugget A with armor B that’s skinned with armor C causing this to hiccup and not reset. You can’t test for every conceivable bug… The best thing you can do is be quick to squash them

This is actually the reason why I prefer instances. Far less variables you have to account for overall, so it’s easier to pinpoint a problem with one when compared to a full scale map.

IMO, stick with instances so that challenges like “Masters” or a “Hard Mode” (GW1) can be added and used for a reason to actually replay episodes. I mean look at LS2 E1&2. It was instanced, had a lot less problems at launch, if something bugs for you just restart and still.. it had open world co-existing beautifully with the story.
Why did we go backwards to the LS1 player mash up debacle?

Because people complained that everything was instanced and they wanted more open world content.

See the pattern here?

That people are foolish and forget WHY we went away from the stuff like Tower of Nightmares? I hope this reminds them why we don’t need open world stuff, it’s too much of a pain.

I think we can all agree (the people who have seen the events anyway) that these event should have been instanced.

I’m actually surprised they are not. I’d think it’s easier to fix a problem with an instance than open world without messing something else up. Besides, if something screws up in an instance and you can’t finish, you exit the instance and restart it, it only effects you. If the open world event is screwed up, NOBODY can do it.

Right now a guy in zerker is just as good a support as a guy in clerics, because only one boon is affected by healing power.

Only in pve. In pvp there is a significant difference.

And there in lies the problem. Balance for PVE and you knock PVP out of orbit. balance for PVP and PVE becomes a DPS race.

Not even close…. The only reason PvE is a DPS race is because mobs don’t have any mechanics to make bringing a non zerker more useful than bringing a zerker.

Which is why I keep suggesting that they up the mob AI so they’ll use everything in their power to defeat you like dodges, unblockable attacks, attack fast, etc (like dem bandits in Lornar’s Pass).
