Well this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0c-0pmSxiEEShows that 980 TI SLI is capable of running GW2 at 4k Resolution, at 60fps. Probably a problem with Temperature, PSU, or GPU. The problem may also be running the triple monitors, as optimization for running a game in multiple monitors is hard to come by and a very niche environment.
I can get 60+ fps too. The video shows the player playing with nobody else around. When I play with nobody else around, I get 60+ fps. I drops off the table though in populated areas, like the mists lobby. Also, I have the same drop off whether using 1 or 3 monitors. Again, that’s what is making me think it is a client server limitation.
From my experience, I tend to think that vesica is correct and we are limited somehow by how quickly the client server can send data. Again, none of my cores are even close to being loaded, and I’m almost certain that if you ran this game on a fast single core processor, you would see the same.
Thank you all for your responses so far; there is a lot of great information here. I would still like to hear some feedback from the developers if they get a chance in the next couple of days. Thanks again.
@Aidan and John – My cores never went above 40% load. Not one of them, not even the most loaded core. So, even if it is single threaded, I was still limited somewhere else.
@Devs/Anet/Gaile, do you have any input?
You edited as I replied. Yes, that’s my point again, are we limited at the client server end?
@vesica – That’s really my point. I get 35-60 fps too, old or new build. If my CPUs were at 100%, or my GPUs were at 100%, I could understand why I do not stay at 60 fps. But, no matter where I am and how empty or crowded the area is, my CPUs/CPUs are never breaking a sweat, but my FPS drop off.
@Sicarius – At this point, I’m just trying to figure out specifically what the problem is. Is it the engine? I wouldn’t think so (to some extent) because I get decent performance when others are not around. My hypothesis is that it may be a limitation on the client servers. And, if that is the case, couldn’t Anet beef their servers up a bit (or loosen a “per player bandwidth cap”).
Hi all,
I am a long time GW player and have been playing GW2 since roll-out. Over the years I have upgraded my PC components, and I had yet to see a significant jump in FPS performance. 2 months ago I built a new machine with an I7-5930 (6 cores). I watercooled the machine and it’s overclocked to 4.2 GHz (Prime95 stable). I also have two GTX-980Ti’s (also watercooled, and overclocked). I have 32 Gb of DDR4 memory. My internet is Comcast Blast, and I have 90 Mbps speed.
All that said, I still have not seen a significant change in FPS performance. When I run monitoring programs in the background, I can see my cores never go over 40-45% load, and my two video cards are the same, never even half loaded. I’m running 3 screens (5760×1080), and if I’m in an area with no other players, I get 60 fps (I have Vsync on). If I move to a populated area, I can drop down to 35 fps. This is no different than my prior build, with one screen, or with 3 screens.
I’m wondering at this point if performance is somehow limited by the client server. Does anyone have any insight/input on this?
(Edited to correct my screen resolution)

Iceman – Thank you for the quick fix, it’s working for me. It looks like I get a couple of FPS less, but it will work for now.
aNet, can you please fix this issue soon? Thanks!
Bump. Anet, do you have any advice on this issue?
New Laptop. If I change areas, I see the wheel on the bottom right spinning, then it freezes (when the load is over). The new screen does not appear unless I Ctrl/Alt/Del, then go back to the game. It’s an MSI GE62 Apache Pro, I7-5700, GTX970M. I don’t have this problem on my desktop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You do not get exp for crafting at L80 anymore. I tried it on my Revenant as soon as I created her and brought her up to L80.
Have not seen it with over 2 hours playing.
Tyria Mastery Point need more way to earn it
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I had 30 Tyria MPs (I guess I did more in the open world previously). The real problem though is getting Tyria XPs now. I have map completion 3 times and I do not wish to do it again.
I play a Mesmer with Celestial gear and I don’t think the fighting is too hard. I can’t do most of the Hero Points by myself, but I can do some. What is hard is trying to figure out the 3 dimension maze and how to get to where I want to go. I’m okay with the 400HP (I had map completion with my Mesmer, so I got about 50% Chronomancer from the start, and I don’t mind working for the rest). What I do not like is the XP requirement on the Tyria side. Since I have map completion on 3 of my characters, I feel I have more than done this. They gave me 30 points for everything I already did in Tyria, so I think it’s appropriate that they also account for all the XP I already completed. The other thing I’m not so happy about is having the Scribe in the Guild Halls only. I’m a Guild of 1, and I can accept that they have made the decision to limit this type of Guild (I Still have my Guild Bank, so that’s okay). But, having the Scribe in the Guild Hall prevents me from crafting pre’s if I choose to do so, unless I join another bigger guild, which I will not do.
Anyway, that’s my two cents.
I don’t like the fact that the Scribe, which is required to craft pre-cursors from what I understand, it locked in the Guild Hall.
You cannot get experience for crafting when you a L80. I tried it in Tyria with my Revenant.
Is this a bug or was this intended? I get XP now for killing things, and map completion events, but not for crafting.
I’m asking because I have 3 characters that have map completion, and the only way I can see making the millions of XP I need for Tyria masteries is to do World Completion on another character.
I had to leave the jungle and re-enter it with the backpack on for the scout to recognize it.
I had to leave the Jungle, then re-enter with them already on for it to work.
I have literally bought tens of thousands of gems over the last 38 months. They are always there when I need them.
Let’s just change “John Smiths” word “seller” to “long time player”, and “buyer” to “new player”.
Still seem fair?
Sounds even more fair. Most players, especially gathers, want a buyer’s market.
Not at all. What this does is pressure Gem purchases on both the old and the new.
“1. T5 leather. This stuf has been sold to vendors for 3 years. It is the best bet you can make.”
Says someone who is sitting on boatloads of this.
You will know in about 2-4 weeks.
Let’s just change “John Smiths” word “seller” to “long time player”, and “buyer” to “new player”.
Still seem fair?
^^NO.
The old one’s are tradable, always, the new ones are not.
Well, you are doing something wrong. I refine my stuff into very sellable objects… But then, I’m 500 in everything.
I opened Halloween bags last week and got Charged Quartz.
I have 25 in mine.
My only Ascended armor set is light because I play my Mesmer the most. It’s not that much more $$$ if you play regularly.
You have to be 13 or older to use Cortana in Windows. Did you know that? Weird restrictions…
I got one for Queensdale map completion yesterday and got a Chickenado Finisher. I almost passed out.
I noticed after third toon and stopped.
I will create my Revenant, bring her up to L80, equip her, then play the Halloween events with her. When Halloween is over, she’ll start playing the expansion.
My son played for about 3 hours on a f2p account. When he got his first Black Lion Key, he got a full Black Lion Claim Ticket.
Geeze!
You get 2 character slots, but these slots are not able to mail anything out (you can however receive mail).
Weapons can at least be promoted in the forge.
As stated above, so can weapons. You are trying to make a problem where it really does not exist. If anything, we need more cloth sources in this game.
My 11 year old has a f2p account, and the TP is very limited as discussed above. The great thing is though I can send him anything. He was so happy to get a couple of 18 slot bags in the mail!
I just tried 30 times (single clover tries, not 10x). My results were pretty much inline with expectations.
Or, when you want to buy, it can come up with a window asking you how many you would like to buy (sort of like in crafting when it asks you how many of something you want to make). That way you only have to acknowledge once.
Well, I PMd all five winners, and did not hear from one by the deadline.
I think everyone on this board is not surprised.
It was like this before f2p.
Yes, but this game was supposed to be different. In the beginning, it really was. There were special events, you got (extra gifts) mailed to you for buying in the store, the drops were much better too. The game was really alive 2 years ago. Then the Living Story was introduced, and in the end, all life was sucked out of this game. All the Devs were probably forced to work on this, and the rest (the majority) of the game suffered. I bought the expansion, and I will try to play it. To be honest, I did not like the Beta, but I’m only one man.
The problem is there are too many players. with too few AP.
I just checked my friend list and from 3073 to 21955 are all in the 90% range, 1722 is in the 80%, and 506 AP is already in 50% lol
Now, if I worked for Anet, this stat is key and worth a ton. People join, play, and most (and 506AP for 50% is a big tell) quit. BTW, they know this. What I am still trying to figure out is what is their game plan to fix it? I have not seen anything in the last year to make people want to stay with this game. I stay because this is my only game and that’s it (I’m a bit older).
Hmmm. Their filter is offensive!
:)
Who cares!?!?
The Chinese eat kitten.
(Just a test)
Even with the masteries the level 80 Spirit Shard should go back in place. Why, simple:
- It grants some feeling that hitting 80 has value, based on betas you will gain mastery XP as you go not just on hitting 80 over and over again.
- It creates a good source of resources for people if they use shards versus just hording them. Shards are dropping but based on RNG they are not keeping pace for some people if their luck is not good.
- It gives meanings to the +XP food and boosters that people have stopped using now once they hit 80 since it means nothing.
- It was fun, hitting cap didn’t feel that way since there was something to collect from it. Will masteries fill this spot, no. They will be different and potentially fun on their own but still not fill that gap.
So OP, +1 from me and add another +100 from all the others in game that this has been discussed with.
+1 to the OP and +1 to you. I think 1 spirit shard is a fitting reward.
IMO, the least that could be done would be for Moto to be able to buy back Infinite Continue Coins. I never bought one, but I can understand that people who did buy it would be upset. This change should not take hardly any effort at all.
