Any AOE class I have leveled until now (that would be necro and ele in your list) was horrible while leveling. Guardians have a pretty decent overall damage during the leveling part, I’d go with a greatsword guardian if I were you.
You will need to describe a bit more what you enjoy playing if you want us to help you.
If low density means that not much people play it, then warrior is the exact opposite. If you really want to build around ranged abilities, I would go for a ranger. The bear type pets give you a decent survivability. Might not be a profession most wanted in elitist groups but do you really care about those?
Two choices here for me:
1) You are very influenced by what other players think and want the most loved class in other people’s mind => Warrior, Guardian, Mesmer to some extent.
2) You don’t care and want to have fun => Play whatever you like, every class brings something interesting to the party when well played.
Also, race really doesn’t influence your build. The only real differences are some racial skills and most of them aren’t that good.
I read this and immediately thought: dual dagger Elementalist.
You get 4 elements to play with, you get CC in the form of chill, cripple, knock back, knock down, leap attacks, always be in close range with the enemy and with the low armour you’ll have to stay on the move to keep yourself alive.I second D/D Elementalist- It sounds exactly like what you are looking for.
Make that three! It will be tough on the lower levels, but it has exactly what you are looking for in endgame.
You have to do 12 different jumping puzzles. Whether you already did them before this month or not doesn’t matter. You won’t get credit if you do the same puzzle twice even if you switch characters though.
There is a new item in the Gem store that allows you to change the name of a character if that is what you are asking for. As for your account name, you’ll have to stick with Gilamar.8974 I guess.
First time Lupicus: about ten try
First time Simin: one try
Though both took about the same time, Simin is not a hard fight, it is a frustrating fight. You never get close to dying, you simply see her regen more than you can deal.
Both of those bosses are what I expect for the hardest dungeon in the game. View videos, read strats, be patient. You’ll find out the feeling when you down them is better than any of the other bosses you’ve downed yet.
I nearly only run in PU and we finished every run we began so far. Stop looking for specific setup and simply explain the strategy to players who are not used to the dungeon. 500 tokens is three days, and Ascalon is not really Arah.
I’d go with gw2lfg if I were you. Use the experienced tag if you fear that other players might not be good enough.
@sacrai
Hotw1 gives badge. Twilight arbor Up/Up gives badges, cof2 gives badgeWhy on earth should ac be more difficult?
Don’t get me wrong, my point is that it is not possible to have a dungeon that would be balanced and easy enough for low levels to run in their current system. Having introductory instances would indeed be nice so that you can learn how to play in dungeons. But the reward granted makes it impossible as it would be far too easy for higher levels. Granting special tokens that give access only to the rare stuff before 80 would be a possibility, but it restricts players a bit too much.
That being said, once you have done the work to learn AC again, I still find it requires nothing more than TA up/up or HotW p1 (for levels 80 that is).
Thanks – will give it a shot. I’m 50 badges short of the WvW Gift and am getting about 30-40 a night so am on schedule to start running it next week.
Better spend the weekend reading the new guides, I guess.
Yes, do read the guides and prepare yourself to re-learn some of the encounters you thought you knew. Spider Queen is now a real boss and its adds do real damage. Kohler needs to be fought with his adds which nearly nobody did (and skipping him has become difficult). Focus your reading on the last bosses, they have received the major changes.
Regarding the whole “this should be an introductory dungeon” discussion, I think you all tend to forget why Anet has hands tied on that one. This dungeon grants token that allow you to buy Exotic lvl 80 gear. Without making any change to this fact, they can’t make it simple enough for levels 35 to do it, or level 80 to farm it. And for those of you who will tell me Citadel of Flames gives tokens as well, you are absolutely right. Expect the nerf bat to hit it very soon.
Learn to play ranger well, and any other class will be a breeze to play afterwards …
I hate to pick on other people, but this really made me laugh. Ranger is a very forgiving class to play solo as long as you are using a heavy pet (bear types for example). Try leveling an elementalist if you want that kind of challenge. I would strongly suggest you don’t though, you’ll have more fun doing it when you’ll have discovered the whole game. Warrior is a solid choice for beginners in my opinion.
If you like classes that people want to have in a party for dungeons, I’d say guardian is rarely looked down on. Except for Citadel of Flames path 1 where every idiot is looking for dps only. All other dungeon paths welcome the guardian’s party buff ability.
Don’t get me wrong, all other classes can bring something to the party, it’s just that it’s better known for guardians.
On the dps side, everybody knows warriors can put up damage, so they’ll never be turned down either.
Engineer seems like the exact opposite of what you are looking for as it is not famous for anything. It is a very good profession but no one really knows what it does as too few people play it.
My questions are: Do the two classes diverge more at max level? I’ve read that Guardians are supposed to have more survivability than Warrior despite their much smaller HP pool. Is that true at max level? Do Warriors really have a significant DPS advantage over Guardians at max level?
Yes they do diverge more at max level though as always, they can have any role in a party if traited accordingly. Guardians have access to whole lot of party support utilities whereas Warriors have access to a lot of control and damage utilities. Health pool of a guardian is not a problem as they have huge heals available and access to very good defensive skills (mace and shield is nearly only defensive for example).
I play a shout warrior and am currently stuffing a dps guardian. Their dps is sadly in no way comparable. Hundred blades is dealing huge amounts of damage and nearly no other profession can put up that many in a short amount of time. Of course, I am mentioning pure burst only, dps over time is simply too hard for me to calculate but I’d still say the warrior is dealing a lot more, be it only for auto-attacks.
Am wearing full Carrion Armor
Toughness
Vitality
Condition DamageIsn’t carrion Power, Vitality, condition damage?
Condition Damage, Power, Vitality to be accurate as the major skill is Condition damage.
Interested in this thread as well, though I don’t know the full list of attributes of my elem by heart.
I fully agree with what Yramrag said. As a complement, here is the wiki page that describes stat combinations and how (and where) to get them:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats
As I didn’t see anyone mentioning it, this thread is awesome:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players/first#post20871
It will answer some of the questions you’ll ask yourself, no need to read it all at once, but be sure to come back to it sometimes.
Yesterday I had a chat with one of the lucky guys who linked one in the chat. There is no way for me to verify his claim (which is strange by the way), but he was telling me that he was level 20. Now this could explain also why an incredible number of those dropped.
I don’t know if anyone can confirm this, or even if this is intended. But if he wasn’t lying, up of the drop rate and the fact that a lvl 80 weapon can drop for non-80 characters sure would explain why the end of this treasure hunt seems that ridiculous…
Try using the gw2lfg website, it has a group option that allows you to warn other people that you are new to the dungeon. Should help you find nice helping teammates.
Keep in mind that guesting is now an option. If you and your friend are not planning on playing in WvW together, then there is no need for him to be on the same server as yours. He will simply need to guest your server every time you want to play together.
I tried to complete the Zho Qafar event on my server the last two days but couldn’t find anyone willing to. Actually, this gives me more confidence that this is an event that hasn’t been farmed a lot, so it might just be the right one…
Thanks for the update, I’ve always wondered about that bonus xp but never bothered to lookup why I was getting it.
Could this item be somehow related to the Scepter of Orr and Vizier Khilbron?
You know…there IS a boss at the top of the Vizier’s tower…
Any idea/source on what triggers this boss? Does he leave a chest?
I was planning to go back to that tower this evening, it has always puzzled me. Lots of lore on top and nothing to do with it…
Here is the link where I have read it, can’t find the other post he is referring to:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Final-Rest-how-do-you-get-it/page/9#post1400265
It seems it is related to an interview made after the two other devs comments.
We should definitely unite both thread or choose only one, I’ll copy my reply here as well, sorry for the people who monitor both threads:
Very interesting Raege but we did rule out dungeons because it was stated that it is dropped in the open world. Would have been nice though, I love AC…
On the other side, I read this whole thread, plus the current theory one and I love this. As someone asked about other languages forums, I started a thread like this one in the french forum as well, who knows, someone has to know something somewhere.

Remember, combo fields operate on a chance to trigger, so they are not always a 100% sure thing.
Where does that information come from?
I know for sure that some skills do not always trigger combos, in which case this is written in the skill tooltip (staff 1 of the necro has 20% chance, if I recall correctly). But when it is only mentioned “Combo finisher”, I trust there is 100% chance for the combo to trigger.
I’m getting a new mouse and will probably follow the suggestion to keybind dodge to one of the buttons.
While you are thinking about a new mapping, consider also mapping the “back” (left side button) to shift. This changed my gameplay completely. Then I mapped out of reach keys like F1, F2, and others to shift + 1, … As a result, I use the space bar to dodge and shift+spacebar to jump.
When you are down, do not use the third button, it is the one that triggers the vengeance mechanism. When you use it, you are immediately revived but only for 15 seconds. The vengeance has a small chance (somewhere around 10%) of disappearing each time you kill an enemy.
The trait skill Aly is talking about is the number 7 of the Discipline skills. It ensures that you will get rid of vengeance if you defeat a foe.
Vengeance should really only be used anytime you feel you will die anyway, as it will give you a short amount of time to save someone else of your party, go and die somewhere it is easier to res you, or try and defeat as many foes as you can to get rid of the effect.
Agreed, they are not tanks in the usual sense, but the guardians are the closer to this concept. Not to say that warriors cannot be setup for support and extreme defense, but the guardians have a larger panel of support, heal and defense skills.
In your example (difficulty 7) you will both gain a level. What matters when looking at the reward is wether the difficulty level is above or equal to your fractal level, no matter what other levels you have in the group.
I am surprised nobody mentioned it earlier, but gw2lfg has a great option for you to find players that have your tastes, it’s called “Not skipping content” and the icon is a star. Look for those players or create lfgs with this symbol and you will no longer face the issue.
Same goes the other way for speed runners, use the appropriate icon (double arrow) so that no player ends frustrated when joining your group.
And Anet, if you read this, please try and include a solution somewhat similar to what gw2lfg is currently offering, this would be awesome to have as an in-game feature.
I’d add that it is the responsibility of your group to decide wether to continue the fight when teammates are down or not. Simply run away from the boss, once the whole group out of the fight, the members who fell can travel to the waypoint.
It’s also worth mentioning that gw2lfg offers a tag you should use that can tell other players you are new to the dungeon, so you might even run with nice people that will teach you the strategies of the dungeon.
Also you can check this site out when looking for the next piece of armor you will dream of: http://www.gw2armorgallery.com
And gw2spidy says I am very wrong, sorry for the wrong information.
Last time I checked, it costed 1G and 30S. But I can’t remember if I checked yesterday or this morning.
TP stands for Trading Post. It’s accessible from the ‘o’ key in game. And according to the Guardian forum, Spirit weapon are no longer good skills, except for the shield.
This technique is likely to be expanded to any continuous attack, no need to be 80 for that. For example, the worms spitting fire can be used if you dodge right through the flame when doing it.
Got the name wrong (I am a french-speaking player). The real name is Spirit Weapons: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Spirit_Weapon
I don’t think there is a way to upgrade to the Deluxe Edition but I might be wrong.
I think I remember from other posts from you that you are playing a guardian. If you like the idea of pets, look into the living Arms skills, you might find it pleasant not to fight alone anymore…
Edit: Gee, I should really refresh before replying, posts are flying fast here…
Exactly, click on my link about the Mistfire Wolf and you will see why. Hounds of Balthazar are available only if you are human, I take it this is not your race…
According to the wiki, the best one is a level 80 green sold for karma in the Cursed Shore. I might not be aware of a better one though…
If you are speaking about the Mistfire Wolf, it is a skill that was provided only with the deluxe edition of GW2. If you are speaking about the Hounds of Balthazar, it will cost you 30 skill points and will be unlocked after you took at least 2 elite skills (10 points each).
Don’t worry, there is a lot to discover in this game and there is a lot you will not now about even when you will hit 80.
Yes, level 80 is the level cap, so you won’t gain any level when you reach it, but you will still get experience and every new “level” simply grants you a skill point.
As for mystic forge, it is still a very less known principle but all you need to know to start experimenting in in this page of the wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_forge
Edit: Jornophelanthas beat me to it, sorry for the double post…
I’d say you will need to pay attention to a few things if she never played that kind of games:
- Help her quickly find a setup that she feels confortable with. Moving with the keyboard and camera on the mouse can be a tough one to handle for someone who never played FPS or MMORPGs. My girlfriend clicks on skills instead of using them on the keyboard, this has been a great improvement for her for example.
- Do NOT show her jumping puzzles. She won’t like it especially if you do great and not her. Some vistas might be to avoid in the early hours as well.
- Show her crafting (my preference goes to cooking, as I find it particularly interesting), she should like the hunt for materials.
- Start a character with her and select the same story at creation so you can go through the story together. it is much more enjoyable.
- My girlfriend started with a ranger and that seems like the best first character to make when new to the game. The pet does a lot of tanking for you, you can hunt for additional pets and the ranged attacks are quite easy to use.
Have fun playing together, hope for you she will like it, it’s so much better if she plays too.
Are you sure you didn’t purchase two of them? They should disappear from you inventory once used.
You assume well. Note that in the recipe he pasted, the component needed for every Gift is written under it. So for example, the Gift of Energy needs:
250 Piles of Crystalline Dust
250 Piles of Incandescent Dust
250 Piles of Luminous Dust
250 Piles of Radiant Dust
Crafting a legendary weapon is the longest thing you will get to do in this game, enjoy it! (One week and a half sounds unrealistic now doesn’t it?)
Look at this gallery to see if any fits your tastes (I selected the first short one I found for you but there might be others):
