A quick question about karma

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sacrai.6280

Sacrai.6280

Personal Reward Level, also called fractal level. The higher your level, the more karma you’ll get when playing under it. The formula is given in mtpelion’s link, but I’ll paste it here:

Karma awarded = (640 + 8 * Completed difficulty) * (Personal reward level – Completed difficulty)

Note that (Personal reward level – Completed difficulty) is capped at 10. A bit under 10K karma when completing a fractal 40 and you’re level 50.

To add to everything that has been said yet, there is a jumping puzzle in Malchor’s Leap that has 7 containers which can give you T6 materials. Doing it with several characters each day won’t give you stacks of T6 but it’s less boring than some of the other farming options.

Just a quick warning to add for the next days, there seems to be a bug with map completion if you finish your 100% map exploration by one of the two new POI of Lion Arch, preventing you from getting your last reward (gift of exploration being the biggest problem). So if you’re exploring only for the sake of the gift, make sure you don’t finish your map exploration by those two.

What do you think about necro in dungeon?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sacrai.6280

Sacrai.6280

staff is bad dps right? and dagger can’t cleave right? So honestly that’s the only thing I hate about power necro.

i always carry axe too up to situations. But u know dagger is great dps weapon for me
when stacking at boss and warhorn use for support and siphon life from loust swarm. Staff, it’s useful for kill trash mob combo with well. don’t forget death shroud too

I’m not an expert at the game. But power necro “do have less consistent” aoe than the other class right? Other class can just auto attack and do more aoe damage than necro.

That’s really the only thing I dislike about necro. That and condition can’t go over 25 stack, and condition do no damage against structure.

“Other class can just auto attack and do more aoe damge than necro”
Are you sure? Did you used to stand on well of suffering for 6 seconds when power necro use it? Just try it u will know what i mean.

but about conditions i agree with u. it’s suck on PVE. i tried T-T

I used to main a power necro in full zerker. Well of suffering ticks between 2k and 4k depending on how you’re traited. Thats about the average damage of a DPS warrior axe auto-attack. The sixth blow of the auto-attack chain even doubles this, so yes, you are providing an under average DPS, while bringing no utility to the party AND covering the floor with a sub-optimal combo field.

I feel sorry for you because I lived everything you are experiencing, from not wanting to go zerker to trying to prove necros can get the job done. In the end, if we are speaking optimization and speed runs, necros don’t belong in a group. If you want to talk about this further, my MP’s open.

Condition Damage question

I agree with Thaddeus, what I said is plain wrong now that I think about it. Looking again at the stats combination page on the wiki, it seems like rabid is you only option if your want the highest condition damage and a decent critical chance.

Condition Damage question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sacrai.6280

Sacrai.6280

1. It does not. However, there are traits that do trigger conditions on critical hits, and precision raises your critical hit chance.
2. I am not fond of mix and matching on the armor when it comes to condition builds. If your new to this game, I’d say start with rabid or dire, so you’ll have enough toughness to survive a few mistakes. However, when you’ll feel confident enough, start dropping pieces for rampager or carrion. Knight doesn’t have any condition damage on it, so I wouldn’t go for that.

I have absolutely no knowledge on condition mesmers so I’ll leave that part to someone else.

However, i think i made a miscalculation anyways because i think, to get the right , i have to divide 715 not by the amount of mithril i got but the overall amount of ore i got, so it would be:
715/(715+6334) = 10.1

Correct me if im wrong.

if you can get multiple ori, then that looks like the right calculation. ori would make up 10.1% of the ore you got.
I am leaning towards agreeing with other people: that there is something like a 10% base chance to get upgraded material, and the “25% chance at rarer material” just increases that 10% by 25% to 12.5%
sorta like how there is a base 150% critical damage, a base 100% magic find, etc.

It doesn’t sound like the right calculation to me, or at least it doesn’t reflect what you are trying to prove. What you want to verify is that in 20% of the cases, you get a higher tier material. Which would verify if you got orichalcum 1000 times out of your 5000 tries, no matter how much you got.

Now you do mention that it is even less than your 715 because you mention that you sometimes got more than one, so your conclusion still stands. It seems like Mystic is right, there should be some kind of base chance to get higher materials and the kit’s percentage applies to this base rate.

I believe the expression also applies on some other principles they have put in place that weren’t there in the first place. For example, having two toons that are level 450 artificer won’t let you craft two ascended materials the same day. Doing the same dungeon path with two toons gets you nearly no bonus token, and so on.

Now I do agree with both sides, I have a level 80 of all professions because leveling is fun, and I really wouldn’t want to get everything my other characters did handed to me without any effort. I would just like to be able to do twice the same content for twice the reward because I took the time to gear and level a second character, that’s all.

Ascended weapons and armor added a lot to this problem, because if I want to get involved in high level fractals, I have to choose one toon that I will fully gear for it. Because those require a huge amount of materials, I will probably never play any other character there.

(This is the rational side of the argument, the irrational being that you NEED to have ALL your toons max geared, which I personally think is a bit too much to ask).

Edit: Wow, really? 5 people replied while I was writing my answer… Well, just read it as if the people above hadn’t said that already :-P

It is not THAT confusing.

You get a daily only if your personal level (Rlvl) is high enough to at least belong to the range you’re doing. If your personal level is 7, you’ll get only one daily a day, no matter which level you complete.

As soon as you’ll be 11, you’ll be able to have the daily 11-20 and the daily 1-10.

Honestly, if you build a character for World Bosses and Champion Farming, I would recommend:
- That you don’t build for conditions, even people not built for conditions will put theirs, ten people is all it would take for you to be virtually useless
- That you don’t build at all actually. Honestly, farming PvE in a zerg doesn’t require anything else than your auto-attack.

Funnily enough, you main the same class as I do and go for the same alts that I went at first (and I also only play male characters). Go for a guardian. Unless your goal is to have all professions at level 80, then go for a mesmer. You won’t have the patience to level the mesmer if you don’t do it now. Thief is very easy to level, you’ll have a lot of time later.

Grounded Achievement = Bad design

in Twilight Assault

Posted by: Sacrai.6280

Sacrai.6280

I also half agree that an achievement that you can get by doing nothing is bad design.

There you go. Add the achievement to a dungeon that is like an hour long, you only get one shot at it and you can have a much higher chance at acquiring it by being selfish so players will be encouraged to selfish behavior..

That’s this thread in a nutshell and my concern to begin with.

The whole purpose of this thread is the same as any thread on achievements. You want them all. No matter what. No matter what they are supposed to represent. And it doesn’t matter if you deserved them or not.

It is not what achievements are designed to be. That’s why we should never have attached material rewards to achievements in the first place. No one cared about this when the only reward was a title and a right to brag.

Now if some of you still have a sense of self-esteem, please get out of this trend and kittening work for your achievements.

Grounded Achievement = Bad design

Sacrai.6280

It’s not bad design when it can be done by everyone without the use of portals and invulnerability skills. Just learn the patterns and yo can do it without getting hit by the electricity. It’s an achievement that takes a little thought and critical thinking which is why so many people struggle.

It is badly designed if it encourages players to get it by not playing. Of course it can be achieved through clever hopping and manual dexterity, but it is a lot easier to achieve by sitting it out. That is a definite design flaw.

Whaaaaaaat? Since when being a kitten is the fault of someone else? I am so tired of the gaming community…

Since similar achievements are known to be bugged (whether or not they’re awarded is pretty inconsistent, even when you think you know exactly what to do), yes, I think part of the blame IS upon the game. (See also: “The Floor Is Lava. Don’t Step In It”, “Fancy Footwork”)

This achievement is not known to be bugged.

And just the very same moment, someone posts this about the other achievement in the Aetherpath that encourages players to stay behind…

A track record is a track record…

No need to continue this discussion, I won’t change the gaming community’s mentality on this. I just hope I never run into any of the selfish people like the OP, caring about their achievements over challenge and fun.

On the other side, I fully agree with you that bugged achievements are the responsibility of the game and are frustrating for players who can’t get them. I also half agree that an achievement that you can get by doing nothing is bad design. That’s why Fancy footwork should and is supposedly awarded only if you carry a wisp.

What is this all about? An achievement is something you earn, not something the other people of your group offer you. Learn how this floor works, learn the pattern, do your part perfectly, that’s all there is to it.

What about it taking a few run before you get it? Achievements should not be granted in a minimal amount of runs. If you can’t succeed fast, then tough luck. This has nothing to do with bad design, it has to do with you not willing to comply to what you need to do to get it.

I hear the argument that the other people in your group are as entitled as you sound. It gives for ridiculous runs it seems. Still I’d blame the people, not the design.

Your other solution is to contact assistance and ask them if you can trade this ring for its equivalent in opposite infusion slot (all stats combination rings come in two version, one with a defensive infusion slot and one with an offensive infusion slot). Tell them you made a mistake selecting it, I have heard lots of cases already of people getting the ring they initially wanted this way.

MMO Mouse vs Gaming Keypad

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sacrai.6280

Sacrai.6280

Have both a naga, and orbweaver, I can say having both is the best option.

But I would have to agree with the others the mouse would be the first choose, nothing beats being able to easily move, jump, turn screen and cast at the same time which the mouse lets you do. Not having to take either your hand off movement or mouse to cast make a load of difference.

I am currently using a Razer Nostromo and a normal mouse, and I have to say that your statement is only half true. I use the joystick on the nostromo to cast and it doesn’t take my hand off the movement or mouse, as my left thumb does it.

To the OP, I would closely analyse the way you play, to define wether you have more ease (and room left for more movement) on your left or right hand. I personally always use the mouse to direct the camera, which makes me wonder if I’d be able to use my right thumb correctly, while directing the camera (thus pressing the right button).

To answer Kaizz, I’m not sure were talking about the same thing when talking about a keypad. The Anansi looks like a keyboard with some mappable keys on the pics I found of it. Keypads change your experience more than a keyboard with additional keys at unconvenient places.

Still, I’m definitely getting an MMO mouse next time I see one.

Hi Garuda,

1) The static field itself adds no buff, but if you were to perform a skill that reads Combo: Explosion, you would get a general speed buff. This is what commanders usually ask for before long distances to cover. List of combos in the wiki for reference is here

2) I need to check whose boon duration is taken into account in the aforementioned case, but I’d say it’s the one triggering the combo, so the one that uses the explosion skill. If his boon duration is augmented, be it by runes or gear, you might end up with up to 1 minute of speed, which is quite good. Still, when impacting another group, having stacks of might or not (by buffing into a fire field) can make a huge difference, even if only on first 3 skills.

3) If you are planning on defending and/or upgrading a point, you will need to have supplies ready at hand. This is why you usually don’t take the supplies in SM but in less often attacked places. Additionally, when you launch the process of upgrading keeps, there is an amount of supplies that is gradually taken from that place to supply the upgrade. When people take supplies, they potentially slow the upgrade.

4) On my server, only commanders place those, because they know where, when and what. Additionally, if your server has a Teamspeak or Mumble or any other vocal way of communicating, log in and listen to what your commanders say. Usually, they will explain what siege weapon to place and why.

5) My guess is that you heard about mesmers hiding in keeps when they are taken by the enemy. If you are skilled at hiding, you could stay in the keep when it’s captured, and then later port your team in. Pairing with one or more thief can help you staying hidden. No legit way of going through a door that I know of.

6) If you wish to keep the “caster” spirit, I would advise you play a staff elem. If your play style is going along following a commander, I would say any class can be needed. I wouldn’t say all builds are needed though…
