Free? Lol, nothing is free and as there is no expansion on it’s way we might expect even more gem-store focus what is kinda bad for the game imho.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

To get myself banned or to not get myself banned, that is the question….

I wish we could set the different chat channels to be custom colors. When it comes to the GW2 UI, there’s nothing customizable about it. After all, it is 2013 and this isn’t a console game.

Just my .02

Customize the UI?! Blasphemy!

In all seriousness, I don’t know why the devs (and a lot of players) are so against it. It’s one thing I really don’t like about the game, the lack of UI customization. It doesn’t have to be anything over the top, I am not asking to open the door to tons of modders, nothing that far – just something more than adjusting the scale and the location of the chatbox and simple stuff like that.

We should really be able to move our abilities around and put some things like food on our bar, and move our health orb and energy bar as well.

The UI in an MMO is, in my humble opinion, something very personal. The devs should give us a bit of freedom with it.

I agree with many here who want more permanent content. Although I do love the living story and the philosophy behind it (and I am not just saying that, I really do), it would be nice to have both permanent and temporary content. Maybe some sort of alternating schedule. Give us some permanent content, a new zone, a new permanent dungeon, or PvP map, and give us a living story inside that or the older zones the next go around. Cake and eat it too….

You guys are good developers, stop throwing it all away. It’s like if Rembrandt painted something then crumbled it up. I’d be like “wtf dude.”

Hey guys, I got a huge problem (you can say multiple problems at the same time). I started playing GW2 just when it came out, I liked it alot but somehow I stopped playing it. Now I really want to start playing it again but I have so many problems with my main account. My main account is a level 40 thief and my biggest problem is PvE. I just can’t find the right build. I don’t know if I have put my traits wrong or not but I just can’t seem to be able to kill mobs. I die way to fast and take way to much damage. Second, my gear is just way underleveled. I got stuff from lvl 26 and lvl 18 and don’t know an easy way to get new gear. And if I want buy new gear, another problem shows up, … MONEY. I don’t even have enough money to enable my Master traits and my crafting can’t make up for it. If anyone has any advice or any solutions please let me know.

Many Thanks Ava Owns

Give me your character’s name and I will send you a couple gold pieces. You are on a NA server right? I think you may have to be to get mail from me but I am not 100% sure.

EDIT: Haha, I don’t read what Sacrai wrote. Just let us know. ;-)

Transmute Question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sarabande.8260

Sarabande.8260

Yes, it is normal. The new gear takes the name and color code of whichever skin you pick. At least that is my experience.

Okay thank you. That’s rather silly, though. All I want is the skin of the the item, not the name written in the color of the inferior gear’s quality. So I have all these exotics, but when I transmute them, in my hero panel the names of all of the gear I transmuted look like rares. Why’d they do that, lol? It also sucks that transmute destroys one of the pieces of the gear, or destroys them both making a new one (however you wanna word it).

I will give it to WoW on that, their transmog (transmute) system was much less cumbersome than GW2’s.

Transmute Question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sarabande.8260

Sarabande.8260

I hope I am clear, if not I apologize:

When you transmute is it normal to lose the color quality on the gear you wanna keep equipped? I transmuted Orange (exotic) gear stats into Yellow (Rare) gear looks and now my equipped gear has a Yellow name, but Orange stats.

Look at the pic. In the transmute window you’ll see I have the look of Scout’s Gloves ready to be transmuted into the stats of my Berserker’s Emblazoned Gloves of the Eagle, which I am mousing over. When I do this I will keep the stats of the Berserker’s Gloves, but the name of the Scout’s Gloves… and the item quality as it appears in my Hero Screen will be yellow and not orange.

I hope I explained that well enough. Not saying you folks can’t understand, it’s just hard for me to explain. XD

Hammer smash to you face leave your jaw outta place
Lotus Strike, Back Stabbin’, Stealthin’ without a trace

I’m like a Charr, savage and fiending for some meat
Thief droppin’ nubs, watch ‘em fall like a toilet seat

Got an Ele burning you like Nero did Rome
Got you stiff as a log in a funeral home

Cuz it’s “F” to finish you
You been playing 9 months (scrub) why you actin’ new

Guard spinnin’ with that greatsword lookin’ like a figure skater
I love killin’ nubs, and sayin’ see ya later

Rangers kill you baddes dead, ya’ reaction time is slow
Sylvari is wrong, “All things ain’t gotta right to grow”

~~~~~~
[chorus x2]
Killin’ people in PvP, it relieves some stress
Failing IRL, but I do my best
Gonna play GW till the lights go out
No payin’ bills, rather have gems, that’s no doubt
Was in college had kids, and a house
Thanx Guild Wars now I lost my spouse
That’s okay, play till the day I die
I gotta admit, it beats getting high
~~~~~~

My Asura don’t need to be six feet tall, he cut you from the bottom up
Offended? Here’s my care cup. Is it empty? Yup!

See me in PvP, dogg, run the other way
Cuz I be predator and you be the prey

It’s like I got diplomatic immunity, killin’ scrubs with impunity
I mangle all Tyria’s races, equal opportunity

Master this game, Anet gonna fly me out to Bellevue
Gimme VIP treatment, and say “You a beast man, look at you”

Hop on a rig and show ‘em some kills
Make ‘em balance classes around my skills

GW2 unlikely to get expansions [Interview]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sarabande.8260

Sarabande.8260

There is nothing about an “expansion” that particularly interests me. And, the threat of a level cap increase makes it more a subject of dread. I like the idea of evolving a living world—that seems more like the way worlds evolve and less cataclysmic (pun intended).

And, rather than a two week release schedule, I vote for one that has a chance to produce quality content, say, a 2-3 month development cycle.

Haha, I can totally agree with what you’re saying the level cap increase. I’d go so far as to say I want all an expansion brings MINUS, as you most awesomely put it, a dreaded level cap increase.

GW2 unlikely to get expansions [Interview]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sarabande.8260

Sarabande.8260

What I’ve loved about expansions in the past is getting 3 or 4 new zones open and released at once. It really was a breath of fresh air, and gave me a new perspective on the game as an adventurer, rather then just re-visiting old zones with slightly different mobs.

The problem, I think, with the living story updates is that there’s no real ground breaking change. It’s like 1 small area, a couple of small events and then waiting a couple of weeks until the next update. There’s no brand new sweeping forests to explore, or new towns or villages, or no new castles/mountains/jungles. And for me that makes the new content just seem a bit hollow.

An expansion would change everything.

+1

I’d like to add that it would be nice if Anet struck a balance between the two, expansions and living story. Throw us an expac here and there, but keep the living story thing going as well but maybe with not the intensity we are now seeing. All I am saying is maybe sacrificing expansion packs on the altar of living story isn’t a good idea. Like you, I need new zones, dungeons too… permanent ones.

Advertise: For example, a 45-second Super Bowl ad with Van Damme and the woman who played Miho in “Sin City.”

Release a free expansion, doubling the amount of zones and tripling the amount of dungeons. This will come with a dungeon finder feature.

Remove portals between zones, they’ll now be seamless.

Set up an awesome Guild Wars 2 Con, entrance is free to the public.

We need a Guild Wars 2 NASCAR and Rally Car team.

Buff support roles in dungeons. Some people really like support and even the most “supporty” build in this game still provides relatively weak support for allies.

Add more RP gear to the store. Add more things to the store in general – I always thought it was a bit lacking.

Sarabande.8260

To those interested in learning more about RP, especially on Tarnished Coast, please check out this site called Guild Wars 2 Roleplayers:

http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com

^That is a very, very good site and pretty much amounts to the official, unofficial TC roleplay site. Here is a good thread to get you started:

http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com/forum/m/2737230/viewthread/4000919-new-to-gw2-or-mmo-roleplay-get-started-here
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IMHO: It is very, very good to know lore, but don’t feel as if you gotta get a ton of it under your belt to enjoy RP. What I mean to say as don’t view it as a prerequisite to enjoy RP or do it well, but it does help. On Tarnished Coast, head out to Divinity’s Reach and dive right in to some RP and you’ll catch up on lore faster than you think.
Also remember that some classes might be fun to play, but boring to RP and vice versa. Although they can be fun to play, RP’ing Guards (or Paladin classes in general) is a snooze fest for me; Elementalists and Necros, while not my favorite class killing mobs, are a blast to RP. Just play around.
Also, I know this is taboo, and I hope I don’t open a can of worms, but it is fun to RP the “opposite” sex. Hell, tbqh, I find it harder [read: boring] to RP a guy than a girl. I only play and RP girls. Don’t let social stigma steer you away from RP’ing a girl if you’re a guy (or a guy if you’re a girl). You might be missing out on a lot of fun.
Have Fun with the beautiful art of RP. I hope it brings you a lifetime of joy.
Esplen, more along the lines of a Blizzcon. People in Europe and SA play WoW too, I don’t know if they have a con those places, but I know they do in the US.
Cost Wise, I think a lot of people would pay for it. I seriously doubt it would be a skeleton crew showing up. As far as location, maybe somewhere like Dallas or Denver – somewhere a bit more central instead of Seattle, LA, or NY.
Honestly, I can’t even plan a smooth Thanksgiving dinner, so speculating how to quarterback a Guild Wars Convention is outta my league. However, I’d wager it would help to promote the spirit of the game, and that’s what it’s about.
A question about racist comments
in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
Sarabande.8260
This thread has proven to me at least that the ban on words has become ridiculous. A person has to say N-Word or obfuscate in some other way just because someone might be offended by the real word.
Honestly, it is ridiculous in the extreme that the same PC bullpuckey is infiltrating a game. The Asura calling a human Bookah is 100% appropriate given the structure of the game and the various races. The very fact that someone might be remotely concerned about a word like Bookah used in a game tells me that people concern themselves with words far too much.
A word only has as much power as you give it over you. That is why most people couldn’t care less what ‘names’ they are called. They laugh and say, “Yeah, whatever” and go on with their day.
Coming from a black guy, well “mulatto” really: It’s funny… I live in Maryland about 5 minutes outside Washington, DC – a solid “blue” area. These rich, educated, seemingly enlightened, vegetarian, “politically correct” Democrats with their alphabet soup of no-no words are often the most racist and closed-minded people when you you really start picking their brains.
They’ll be quick to say “DON’T SAY THE N, B, G, F, H, or T words! Waaaaah they’re offensive!” but then they’ll be the first to look down their nose at the family speaking Spanish in the grocery store, have a “talk” with Becky when she brings a soul brotha home for dinner, or not sit down next to the Mexican dude on the Metro. These people will thing they aren’t bigots because they have Nat King Cole and John Coltrane on their iPods and like Morgan Freeman on “Through the Wormhole.”
Often I have found, in my experience, the ones who are so quick to charge something as offensive are the most offensive ones.
Good for you mate :P Don’t let the doomsayers on the forums get you down :p
Quoted for truth!
Besides that, I love this game too. To make a long story short, I started just after release with an Asura Thief, died a lot, said screw it, and let the game just sit on my HD for a few months. I went to delete the game but said I’d give it one more chance, rolled a Guardian and fell in love. After learning to play a bit better on my Guard, I deleted it (because I moved to a Euro server before moving back), and rerolled as Thief.
I could go on and on about the things that make me love GW2, but this post will be long. Anet did a wonderful job, and with tweaks here and there this game is only going to get a hell of a lot better, which kinda sucks in a way because I already play (and pay) a little more than I should. Beats drinkin’ though, lol.
I complain about some things, but that’s because I genuinely care about this title. Glad you’re enjoying GW2 as well, OP.
Ahh, a nice dish of censorship fail, haha.
In all seriousness though, that was a really good post, Yumiko. I agree race doesn’t exist, it’s just a social construct; lines drawn in the genetic sand. Race, the color line, etc. is as grounded in genetic reality as the border of, say, Colorado is grounded in a geologic reality —- it’s a political concept; hence political and physical maps. What are your 3 biggest problems with GW2?
in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
Posted by: Sarabande.8260
Sarabande.8260
I really do miss the trinity, or at least having a healer. I would love to heal dungeons in this game. I wish the support “role” of classes got buffed a bit, especially the healing. Despite this, I still like GW2 for what it is. I will be honest though, I don’t know if this game could ever hold my attention for years like WoW did.
The fight mechanics aren’t too interesting. Pretty much just DPS the hell out of stuff and dodge. Dodge, dodge, dodge — it get’s kinda old tbh. I like having to be aware, but having to dodge or otherwise evade attacks that drain you from 100% to 0% in what seems to be less than a second feels kinda overdone and bland. Mobs in instances just run around like crazy while people roll around, often frantically waiting for that self-heal to come off CD.
There is not a trade window, actually there seems to be no need to really socially interact with the people in the game world beyond goofing around in map chat which is fine. I love the GW2 community, especially my friends on Tarnished Coast, but there seems to be a social disconnect in this game and I can’t put my finger on it. Professions are uninspired and feel useless, which stinks because they could have been a means by which people interacted.
GW2 Art
in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
Posted by: Sarabande.8260
Sarabande.8260
I love it – that pirate thing that was recently on the hompeage was nice. She was a cutie! Beyond that, the stylized art that I associate with this game is really, really awesome. I actually love cutscenes, and that is in large part due to the art. When you first roll a new character, that introduction is awesome.
I consider acting an art as well, and if I am mentioning art, I need to mention voice acting. I must say that I do enjoy the voice acting in this game. Historically, for me at least, games have had crappy vice acting, but this one pulls it off. I also like the random things characters say in the world, things like, “I feel six feet tall!” Although I will admit the resident dragon in Lion’s Arch is extremely annoying. The beast roars far too often (read: it gets old) and when he does it sounds more like a toilet flushing in a hollow public restroom than the roar of a dragon. I can’t wait till it’s gone.
I play on a relatively modest machine, an Asus G75 gaming laptop; that’s a rig with a GeForce660m,16gm of RAM and an i7. The game still looks amazing and I can’t imagine how good this game would look if I could just MAX EVERYTHING and run it at a smooth 60fps. I love how the environment looks, and often I stop to just take it all in. Zones are simply gorgeous. I especially like underwater environs and will often dive right in when I get the chance.
Artwork in dungeons, the ambiance, is top-notch. For some reason I always loved AC – that place is very well done.
Keep up the good work Anet artists. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
What does 'no endgame' mean, exactly?
in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
Posted by: Sarabande.8260
Sarabande.8260
For many of us endgame is enjoying the game in the manner which we like. Whether that be fighting in WvW, doing PVP, roleplaying with guildies, dungeon crawling for new skins, grinding mats for a legendary, doing some DEs, leveling an alt, taking part in the living story, trying out new builds ….. ect, and on and on.
  • Roleplaying with guildies? What are we 12?
…No but tbqh it seems you are quite ignorant by this and by many of your other points, but especially this. RP requires more skill; that is more of a grasp of language and knowledge of any given lore and how to implement that into a story, sometimes on the fly, than the likes of you will probably ever have. What are you, 50? Some old burned out man going through a mid-life crisis, thinking about buying a Harley only to fly off it and cause a traffic jam for all of us?
What does 'no endgame' mean, exactly?
I see this constantly and I can’t help but wonder, every time… “what does this mean?”
It means that some players have been so well deceived by developers of pay to play MMOs…
Or “conditioned” is more like it, haha.
