On that note, they want a use for the wxp trading post booster.

I have a magical technique that will instantly make all boosters good.

Extend them to 4 hours or make them permanent upgrades.

I have foreseen that this will work because I am a wizard.

Character bound progression does more harm than good. It increases burnout and locks out anyone who primarily spends their time playing alts, and what does it give to the game?

@OP; A lot of the first and second list seem trivial/meaningless, and some of them seem like things that should be the result of player action on the field. The third list seems like stuff that would either go well into a Mastery or should be baseline.

My thoughts.

There are a few things I’m thinking about when trying to address orbs/bloodlust;

1. The mechanic cannot be deleted. It can be stretched to infinity, but it must exist in some way.
2. It should not affect a player’s power at all.
3. Objectives are fine to modify.
4. Siege weapons are kind of stickly; be careful modifying them. Power growth with them has not been gentle on walls.

And there are a few other problems which exist in WvW;
1. The game doesn’t change as it progresses. It may as well last 2 days, not a week.
2. Objective upgrades are not particularly deep.

So, we have orbs/bloodlust, and we have two problems that are fundamentally rooted in longevity. So… Rework orbs so that they make the game change as the week progresses, and so that they change objective upgrades somehow.

I thought about it for not long at all and eventually I ended up on “turn orbs into a resource that allow you to permanently upgrade objectives, and these upgrades are built over the course of days to produce a cadence as the week progresses”.

PPS WXP should be account bound. Stop being stubborn about this, coming up with convoluted methods and pretending that alts and non-zergers are treated equally in WvW.

Personally, I think that the solution for the whole account bound WXP debate has an easy fix. Make the WvW WXP account bound, but make it that each character can spend their points out separately. Such as, lets says you are wvw rank 100. On your warrior you have your 100 points mostly into siege power, such as ram and cata mastery. While on your Engineer, you have your 100 points mostly into siege building and supplies, such as supply mastery, capacity, and the build/repair masteries.

This way, you can spend your points differently on each of your characters, but you now have the freedom to play on any character and still contribute to your WvW rank (since it would be account bound)

This wouldn’t work; it’d be a form of respeccing, which they’ve explicitly said they don’t want to have as something you can do on demand. I have 7 80’s, and I’m at about rank 250 in total; I’d be able to get almost every single upgrade with some combination of my classes.

Just have the entire page account-wide.

Sarrs. You say that while sitting on a 1.5 tier server where ONLY 3 out of the other 23 servers available have more people then you. hard to take that seriously.

Try fighting 10-1 odds in your own BL and NO-ONE on other borderlands to call in… THEN say how you dont mind it.

What’s this 1.5 business? TC is T2. Top dog in T2, but still T2. I’ve played since release, and we were in T4/5 when the game launched.

I have fought 10-1 odds in our own BL. We had 50PPT last night. I do mind it; I’ve said in a lot of other places that the variance needs to be brought down, but how do you propose to fix it without causing serious damage elsewhere?

I don’t know about anyone else but I kinda don’t mind some servers being higher pop than others. You get (or should get) a different experience depending on whether you’re in T1 or T2 or T3 or what, that’s kinda cool, but I don’t really know if that requires the servers to stay as they are.

Quitting threads can provide feedback to the dev team. I usually do my best to include a quitting thread whenever I leave an MMO for the sake of starting a discussion; the only MMO which I haven’t done this for was WoW, and that’s because I left because my guild left and “i don’t got no guild” seems like kind of a copout.

I’d personally say that absolute ultimatums are more immature than anything.

Articulate to me what the problem is and why it’s a problem without resorting to subjective anecdotes. Demonstrate to people who don’t yet believe there is an issue with undeniable evidence that there is some kind of problem here.

There are two primary problems present here:

1. The buffs
The buffs tend to gravitate towards the stacked servers, exaggerating an advantage that they already have. Overall, this reduces the potential for individuals and small groups to impact the outcome of the game. By providing something significant for small groups to fight over, small groups are also the most affected- and therefore, punished- by the buff.

The “on-stomp” portion of the buff actively punishes you for getting killed while roaming, as a majority of roaming kills/deaths are carried out by stomps. One of the main objectives of the Outmanned buff was to eliminate the penalties that might discourage you from participating in a server on which you’re outmanned- Points on stomp bring that discouragement right back.

2. The attitude
By going ahead with implementing this buff, ANet’s basically said that the game is first and foremost theirs by a long margin, and not the players.

This is commendable to a degree; the developers do need to resist some of the player demands in order to maintain the integrity of the game as a whole (if you want to see forum feedback and misinterpreted metrics taken to their extreme, WoW’s just over there, have fun in LFR).

However, by doing this they seem to mistake the players’ priorities with their own. GvG was a fun player project which overall had very little direct negative impact on the game, while also giving the players participating a big draw and regular schedule that was previously somewhat lacking. GvGs are fun things that guilds have at scheduled times- they’re very similar to raiding, when it comes to what benefits it brings to the game. By saying and doing things that show they have little interest in GvG, they’re saying “play our game our way or not at all”- And if a service provider has that attitude towards its customers, it deserves to go out of business. It’s like if the makers of dominos said “you’re not allowed to make rows and then flick them, it destroys the integrity of the game”.

So what do you have at the end of the day? You have a buff that hurts the people that it says it helps while simultaneously cutting out an activity that a lot of people enjoy; people who also make up a significant portion of the dedicated WvW playerbase.

Yes, for sure. Necro’s fear isn’t a projectile that can just be body blocked. The #3 on warrior is stronger, but you’re not going to ever get a chance to use it because the #2 is total rubbish so it doesn’t even matter. Necro’s downed state could use a buff when compared to the top tier downed state classes though.

I’m kind of eh about this. If you can avoid a body block or a blind for the hammer, and have some distance between you and the prospective stomper, you have a solid chance of getting it off. It’s better than “put a little pile of green sludge on the floor”.

Would probably put Warriors just above Necros above Engineers at the bottom of the pile.

Guild mission is awful idea.
Look this week rank 21 face rank 16. They have 4x numbers that we do. So it is nearly imposible to capture anything in prime time. And yes, my guild mates are online mainly during prime time.
Also defend anything if 50 man zerg is knocking on your door is imposible. Many times they just pvd, they dont use any siege.
It would make sense only if the tower/keep would be automatically T3 with full upgrades. But that will never happen.

Those problems look like they’re derived mainly from the ranking/matchup system and walls/gates just being meaningless. So if it were in a balanced matchups and paper wasn’t quite so paper (maybe more like cardboard i guess)?

not really, winning 1v3+ against level 80s was always doable as well.
doing that to 3 upscaled guardians with an epidemic necro.. I wouldn’t even have saved the recording

If you’re engaging them all simultaneously, they’re not wearing gear/builds that are made of kitten and they’re not lagging out? I don’t really think so.

The thoughts I’m taking into solving the problem:

- Most guild upgrades are meaningless or uninteresting, except for +5 supply
- Claiming structures offers no benefit other than activating upgrades
- There is no WvW equivalent of guild missions

So:

- Remove WvW guild upgrades completely in their current form
- Add +5 supply as an upgrade to the Supply Camp rather than a guild upgrade
- Make assaulting, capturing, and defending a fortification a Guild Mission

At length;

Remove guild upgrades. As I said, they’re… Not really that interesting. You pop them and they’re done, and the benefits they give are kinda eh? To be honest, they don’t really seem noticable at all, so why bother having them in there? It’s complication that leads to unnecessary squabbles.

+5 Supply at camps. Have it sit there on its own, for 75 supply/10s. +5 supply is a very relevant upgrade; an upgrade I’d probably argue is almost too good for its current implementation. This’ll encourage defending high-value pocket camps for resupplying teams, too.

Add a new guild mission; Guild Conquest(two tiers). On activating Guild Conquest, you are given a random tower or keep (which you do not currently own) depending on tier to capture. This is the first half of the Guild Mission, and successfully capturing the tower/keep within 3 hours completes it, giving a reward chest with 2 guild commendations in it. Anyone who helped in the capture gets the chest as well.

You then have a second phase of the Guild Mission, which is the Defend phase; you have to hold the tower/keep for the next half hour/hour depending on tier. For the sake of your sanity, your guild is the only one allowed to queue upgrades or take supply from the depot. If you complete this phase, you get a guild mission chest with 2 commendation in it. Anyone who contributed to the defense gets the chest as well.

During the Defend Phase, the other servers will have an alert on the map in the local borderlands (not global) alerting them to your Guild Mission, and they will have an Attack event. If they attack and successfully capture the objective, anyone contributing to the capture will get 1 guild commendation (no chest).

Like every other guild mission, you can do the Guild Conquest phases once a week. The reward for interrupting another guild’s Guild Defense is daily instead of weekly.

I dearly hope I’m not the only one that saw this coming when they decided to put damage bonuses in the rankup system. Without an equivalent increase in power for gates and walls, they were doomed to irrelevance as soon as the cata line was introduced.

The stomp points really need more attention. Once people adjust to the points involved in losing fights while they don’t have bloodlust, the game is going to get really passive. Wait. The game is already really passive. I mean it’s going to get even more passive.

I have to be completely honest; I’m very skeptical that anyone cares at all about the point scores. Winning the games doesn’t matter until leagues and coverage will still win the day there, so… Eh.

JQ ticks at almost +600 this morning because BG (#1 NA) has less than 30 people in total between all 4 maps. I’m sure they were all just sleeping this morning and it has nothing to do with the bloodlust buff.

I thought Scarlet would be getting exposure once every 6 months, not every second month. Does anyone actually like her?

Whether it was known at the time or not, Scarlet has had ‘exposure’ since January of this past year. She’s the mastermind behind the Molten Alliance, the boss of the Aetherblades, and just an all around ‘luring in the shadows’ villain.

Only recently did she actually show her face at the Queen’s Speech. But her name already revealed her from overhearing the conversation between Mai Trin and Horrik (for those that paid attention and listened through the whole thing).

It’s even suspected that Canach’s plants -the ones used to make the Southsun creatures go crazy- were actually a product created by Scarlett. After all, Canach was sporting Molten Gauntlets as an indication of some contact with that group.

“Kinda there in the background” isn’t exactly what I’d call exposure.

Besides, where she was wasn’t the question. The question was whether anyone liked her.

And yes, I know its not as big an issue if the match is actually balanced, but most everyone isn’t talking about balanced or close to balanced matches, they are talking about blowouts and super blowouts.

4% health on a commander in vit stacked hear, is anywhere from 90 (Guardian -> 22k) to 120 (Warrior/Necro – 30k+) vitality.

4% health is superblowout. The blowoutinest of the the blowouts. To get that, the server with +4% has to have anywhere between 3 and 17 times the score of the lower server, and they’re banking on the 9th bonus to get 3x at the very end of the week.

And even if they do get that much of a bonus? It’s still absolutely nothing compared to the 2 or 3 orbs that they will have perpetually in this superblowout.

And even with this all in mind, I personally would not mind if Robust and Medic had no effect in WvW. I’m not going to go on a crusade about it because they have no direct impact on damage output, and a 4% increase in hp/healing power isn’t really something that I can go “yeah your power of the mists stacks won this fight for you rather than your skill”, but if they were pushed to PvE exclusive bonuses like the monster defense one that’s a-okay with me.

Also not sure why saying that they’re a commander is relevant to this discussion. Being a commander doesn’t do anything to your HP. \o/

Has existed since launch, has always been making said things unfair. Just to put it to scale, anything outside of a Thief/Ele/Guardian, was getting at least 150 vitality worth of health from this, some builds and classes were getting 250+ vitality. Medic can reach upwards of several hundred points worth of healing power depending on the skill’s healing power coefficient.

Healing, or healing power? To get several hundred healing power, you’d need 2000 healing power(i’m not sure that’s even possible), and the full bonus is only gotten in the most lopsided matchups. If the problem is the coefficient on certain abilities… Then adjust the coefficients on certain abilities.

Because of how Power of the Mists scales, it’s very unlikely that you’re going to end up with several percent more Robust or Medic than the other servers on the field. At most, you might get a 3 or 4% health advantage, and that’s in a very lopsided matchup.

That’s literally the only advantage GW2 has over the competition right now. WoW has better PvE content. SWTOR has a better story. DOTA/LoL have better small-scale PvP. There’s no analogue readily available for large-scale group combat in the current market, so unfortunately you’re stuck for now, but there are more than a few promising options coming up.

Aww, how gullible you are, eating the kittens the anet staff feeds you. Just 2 things:
1 – They can make it so the buff disappears with 5-10 mins delay and reappears with 5-10 mins delay too, so this will be pointless… (and how will they know who is the reason they lost the buff btw, huh?)
2 – What about the points on stomp now? Wanna bet uplevels are being kitten talked to when someone sees one and they aren’t holding the bloodlust buff?

1a. Er. Can they? What makes you think they can?
b. They don’t need to know who did it. All they have to say is “which one of you kittens made us lose the buff” in mapchat (and if the stat difference is actually meaningful, everyone on the map will do this) and any newbie who was previously interested in the game is suddenly turned off by a huge spike of negativity directed at them. The game already has enough of a problem with getting new blood.
2. I never said I liked Bloodlust.

Because if you’re the one dude who joins the Borderlands and causes everyone else to lose the bonus stats, everyone will start sending you nasty messages and telling you to leave so they can get their buff back. Any mechanic that encourages people to send you nasty messages is not really something that they’re going for.

There is a significant difference between a minor, blanket increase in stats and forbidding an enemy from equipping accessories altogether. I understand the spirit of what you meant, but that is a ridiculously silly comparison to make.

There are two ways to look at this;
Another server having orbs means you cannot simultaneously have that orb. By taking that orb, yes, they are depriving you of stats.
In a relative environment, stats that another guy has that you don’t may as well be a stat dock. There’s a minor difference in the percentages, as the stat dock is slightly harsher than the stat boost is beneficial, but they still produce a roughly similar difference.

The thing is… 150 stat points is, in most cases, insignificant. Assuming you have all the buffs at all times (which has been exceedingly rare so far), you’ll be maybe 5% stronger than your opponent, give or take. If you die to a thief in two backstabs without the buff, you’ll still die in two backstabs. If you kill someone in ten hits without the buff, you might kill them in nine with the buff. In the vast majority of cases, people aren’t winning or losing fights by the margin provided with bloodlust, and that is why it’s insignificant. People just want an excuse for losing.

Well we’ve done the math later in the page but yes there’s a distinct difference between stats and EHP/output. A 15% increase in output stats is more than a 15% increase in output. A 15% increase in defensive stats is more than a 15% increase in EHP.

The buff is also applied to minions. A minor bonus, but it’s still extra scaling that wasn’t there before, and zombies certainly don’t mind hitting harder. It’s also a benefit that gear can never give.

Regardless of that… So many people in WvW don’t use food or other such bonuses, despite the fact that they can. Plenty still run around in rares or exotics, when others are using ascended. When you encountered such a person prior to this week’s patch, did it completely ruin the game for you? Did you avoid the fight? Did you think “this game sucks, I should quit”? If people never reacted with outrage to those situations, I can’t exactly take it seriously when they scream about this one, considering it’s virtually the same issue.

Well yeah. I’m one of those people, so saying people without food/stones ruin the game would be rather hypocritical of me. However, food, stones and even GK/DAG are different on two fundamental levels from orbs.

You make a personal choice to get food/stones/GK/DAG. This gives you the ability to opt out of them, and it means that you are setting yourself at a handicap if you choose not to use them- An entirely optional handicap. Want to be on an even footing? Spend a bit of silver at the trading post. GK/DAG’s a bit worse, and… Well, guess what people were whining about before this patch hit.

They are non-exclusive. If you have food, you can chow down and the other dude can suck some delicious stuff down his facehole and you’ll be on an even footing again. Individual orbs cannot be simultaneously held by both servers.

Orbs are neither of these. In a worst-case scenario, 899 people are making the decision for you. If you have 3 orbs and the other server doesn’t, you have no recourse to making your fights feel valid in any way.

I find it amusing that the game is suddenly shattered for so many over something as insignificant as a 0-150 point increase in stats. I simply can’t believe that people who honestly and legitimately enjoyed the game prior to the buff are unable to logically enjoy it now. It seems far more likely that they’re simply being disingenuous, for effect.

“Insignificant” is not what I would call 4 ascended trinkets’ worth of stats.

Take the inverse of Bloodlust; if the other realms could get a bonus which, upon getting it, would let them go “nope, you’re not allowed to equip any accessories”, would that shed any light on it for you then? Can you understand why they might think that completely invalidates WvW? Because that is 2/3rds of what this system does.

It’s even worse than everything else that imbalances WvW because you can’t both have those orb bonuses at the same time; if someone else is eating, you can eat too. If someone else has stacked Guard Killer, you can stack Guard Killer. If you’re outmanned and you want to roam for some fun fights? Enjoy your (even more) uphill battle.

If you find WvW so incredibly unacceptable in its current state that you’re willing to quit en masse, then maybe GW2 just isn’t the game for you? Play the game for what it is right now, not for what you fantasize about it being in the future.

It was the game for them two days ago, and apparently it was the game for 99% of this forum two days ago. It was the game for a not insignificant portion of the WvW-playing playerbase two days ago, as well. If GW2 was never a game that they enjoyed, then maybe I’d agree with you, but that’s not the case.

Sorry we will roll back this requested (yeah people asked for something like this) change that took months to complete because people raged on the forums? If they caved to every whiner after every patch we would be still playing the day one release version of this game.

If it seriously took them months of full-time work to put out this update they need to hire more than 2 dudes to do WvW stuff. If they lent a Living World team to the WvW team we’d probably have an entirely new map, not a remodelled section in the middle.

Many people have requested separate Suggestion sub-forums under main Forum areas (PvP, WvW, PvE, Crafting, etc) – Can we please get that implemented as I see it only helping everybody:

  • Devs can focus on Suggestions for the areas they work on
  • People can post Suggestions where they can be seen by others interested in the same area/topic
  • Mods would have less threads to move around as people would be most often posting in the correct place to begin with

I wonder if the mods take +1s into account. This’d be a fantastic change.

We hold our staff members to the same standards as the players when posting on the forums and encourage them to exceed those standards. That said, developers are real people too and we prefer that our staff members post with their own personalities and not just rehash marketing speak. If a developer is not abiding by our standards we work with them to improve how they communicate on the forums.

There is 1 rule of the “Forum Code of Conduct” that literally gets abused by every mod and used to censorship – “not leading to constructive discussion”

Can you please work it to be more specific/clear and when a certain topic gets deleted the mods should 100% clearly state what word/sentence w/e part of the thread/post is against the rules exactly.

That’d be super nice. One of my posts got ‘trimmed’ by the moderators and they didn’t even give me a call afterwards.

How to fix the orbs:

Remove stat bonuses from them. Double the point bonus on stomp to compensate.
Grant WXP for capturing nodes and successfully gaining the buff; 100 and 400 respectively.

I rather agree, that while the terrains are nice looking in ways, they really don’t fit the map, and seem like they were just ‘dumped’ in there in the way of an amusement park, or like the totally contrived sections of the Queen’s Pavillion.

There are suddenly just these big walls and plateau’s rising up out of the ground then a lush forest a few hundred yards away but tightly contained. Obviously they want some variety and interesting fight locations, but I think it could have been tamed down or to flow together a bit more, so it didn’t look quite so much like entirely separate and different conquest mode maps all dropped in next to each other.

Personally, I really liked the lake in the middle. It gave a sense of bigness that you could see the entire horizon, uninterrupted. Now there’s rocks in the way, everywhere you look. Rocks, rocks, rocks. It feels so small and closed off.

Oh I figured it was a much newer version… just wanted to be sure it was the same Xcom I remembered.

It’s a fantastic remake, and does it very good justice (the third-person shooter is a different; The Bureau Declassified). It does have its own kinks but very fun.

Yes? So from whence cometh “this is a balanced/balancing mechanic”? Stacked servers can and will send more people to capture these objectives. Because of this, they will usually win more, barring obscenely huge differentials in skill which don’t actually exist, and even if they did, would be nullified by the “bad stacked server”‘s ability to source three Bloodlust buffs compared to yours’ one.

Those points can also be zerged so you don’t have any point.

They going to sit on top of three points with 30+ people on each over three maps?

If they can afford to do that, 150+ stats was the least of your problems.

Excluding buffs, it’s pretty much impossible to kill 3 exotic-geared players on your own. The ‘zerging’ server doesn’t need to put much out to shut you down.

While I get the idea and feel the pain, I WvW in my spare time. I will continue to do so until something better comes along.

T.V. absolutely sucks. SO outside of spending time with my wife and daughter, WvW it is.

I’ve been playing the XCOM remake; it’s really fun.

Don’t need to control everyone; just need to control enough people to ensure the objectives are met. So long as more people agree to the rule than not, it should be doable.
