I’m confused. We’re getting consumables that give you world experience? Why not just chug them on your main? I don’t get it. Progressing faster doesn’t change the problem one way or the other.
I really don’t understand the reasoning behind things being character-bound. So you can have characters with different skillsets? Why not just spend all your time farming on your main, giving them ALL the skills? I can understand why they wouldn’t want to offer respecs(higher world ranks become meaningless once you can just respec for whatever you’re doing) or have mirrored ranks with different skill distributions(at some point it becomes more expedient to reroll the same class to respec your wvw traits than just farm through), but what they’ve put forward doesn’t make sense.
Directly at “punishment is a bad categorization”, this is a pretty early aspect of psychology to grasp. If you have a thing and you no longer have a thing for whatever reason, it’ll feel like a punishment because you no longer have a thing, even if you wouldn’t have had that thing otherwise.

Probably no one will agree with this but i like having the WXP character bound. Let’s me make different wvw “builds” on different toons. For example my guardian is my siege master and my ele is my camp taker. Depending on what i want to do when i log i can choose the proper toon. There’s a a lot to invest in any given trait and this allows me to be good at all things by simply switching toons. I understand not useful for people that main one toon hard, but if you have multiple 80s like me it work out if you like playing them all.
Except there’s no reduction in the rate you gain levels between characters beyond rank 5. You could have spent all your time on one character and turned them into a master of both capping camps and sieging, rather than arbitrarily splitting them.
I am really very skeptical of dividing rewards by the number of players present for an event. Such a system would be contrary to the rest of the PvE game and present an unnecessary hurdle for people trying to switch from PvE to WvW.
I think a good way to fix the problem might be to simply spread out the maps. They said they wanted to get rid of WPs in keeps to try to keep a zerg’s mobility under control so that might be a good start, but if the maps were generally maybe 30-50% bigger that might make it more valuable to keep smaller groups on field.
In the immortal words of that random human NPC you accidentally press ‘f’ next to, I’m not sure about this.
All these new masteries seem to just be adding to an already pretty robust system, and the increase in wxp is literally just an acceleration through an already existing system. I thought that changes to scoring and match participation rewards were in the pipe? Orbs? Maybe some more upgrades to structures? New maps? WvW specific gear? Maybe some more ways to get ascended gear? Maybe some achievement adjustments?
Would it be asking too much to have some more insight into those things?
It would be pretty neat if players could display their rank title in PvE, and even cooler if every 10 levels a player would be rewards a unique token that they could spend on some awesome looking armor and weapons.
Every 10 levels? That requires them to code more stuff! Just have it give a token every level, and then increase the number of tokens you need to buy coolio WvW stuff 10 times. Would be really cool, though, to be able to get WvW-specific finishers, skins and titles.
You could also allow the orb to be placed in keep or castle and then have that place be upgradable to a tier 4 of some sorts.
Defenders would have to hold out till keep was upgraded, so reset rushes wouldn’t be quite as important.
If the keep is lost the Orb would respawn 15 minutes later, probably forcing an open fight to secure it to a keep.
IMO, have it the other way around; the T4 upgrades are what give the orb bonuses.
I’m inclined to agree, but there’s a reason it was changed in the first place. Discontinue the letters first, and then remove the restriction.
its dirt cheap compared to increased supply and you get back 2 supply quite often. also 3 seconds invulnerable – imba for commanders who need to flash build.
I was getting 4 supply back when I finished building sites. I’m wondering whether the returns are tied to your Build/Repair skills.
As I understand, it’s not mechanically possible to have two mystic forge recipes that use the same pattern?
Add a new item that costs 20 skill points and does the same thing. 100mith/100elder/40AC/1newitem=20 SACs.
Giving me a headache. Worried it might give me a migraine or someone more prone to it a seizure. Is it possible to disable it in settings somewhere?
Looking at this robots artificial body features, I’d say it’s a woman, not a ‘guy’.
It’s the first version of EDI! They haven’t quite got the design down yet.
Would love to see it if they reconsidered. The difference in effectiveness in defense duties between my mains and my alts is far from trivial, but my main’s a necro, so I can’t exactly do everything from that character. I like her, but being able to permaswift a yak without having to relog to play AC duties is a real bummer.
Maybe a designer/developer could explain the reasons for removing ability to deposit gold in the bank?
From my point of view it seems nothing but arbitary and completely unrelated to the introduction of the wallet feature. The wallet could work exactly as described while keeping the bank exactly as it is now, and (almost?) everybody would be happy.
Because it’s mechanically redundant feature bloat. It was there pretty much exclusively so you could transfer gold between characters. With account-wide currencies, that function is no longer necessary, so it’s getting cut to cut down a bit on the UI chrome.
Ten bucks says it’ll just be 30 seconds of Swiftness, like the guild banners.
*add a new map, specific to GvG combat. make it an arena, with multiple “battledomes”. make the standard style of play total-deathmatch. you can even add in other styles, such as king of the hill, or a “kill the commander” type of thing.
This is the only solidly good idea in your list. While I didn’t play GW1, apparently GvG is one of the features that is sorely missing from GW2.
This is a really long post; you should maybe include a TLDR at the end of the post. I think that tool you’ve suggested would be pretty neat; basically, /raidwarning from WoW. Dunno about that enlistment stuff; I think the status quo is okay, and you can just call bad commanders out on their kitten and hopefully they won’t tag up again if they have two wits to them.
How to fix commander, IMO:
Commanders can draw circles and arrows on the map that last longer than no time at all.
Commanders can pick a color for themselves, and their circles and arrows will be that color.
Maybe can buy Commander for something like 100 WvW ranks, as well as through gold.
I dont think I understand what you mean by Champion Bags?
All of the dungeon tokens are being moved to the account based currency wallet, so any char can use any of the currency you build (on any of them).
Where you get the tokens, not where they’re stored.
At the moment, you get tokens in two ways; the already-existing bags of loot that’re on the bosses’ loot tables, which give you 3 each, and by finishing the run, that gives you 60 tokens.
So I’m wondering whether they’ll cut the loot bags that bosses currently drop (that give 3 tokens), add those champ bags, and then add all the tokens (so, like, 20 tokens or so per boss) to the champ bag. It’s not explicitly confirmed, but I imagine the Legendary enemies will also drop champ bags.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
I am perfectly, 100% fine with the gold reward being account based. What I’m worried about is dungeon tokens. I have 6 characters who I run CoF on (occasionally) to get me them CoF badges for berserkers gear to gear up more alts to run more CoF.
So yeah. Will badges be moved to the new Champion Bags or will they remain on dungeon completion? I think it’d be neat if they went to the bags, so people have an incentive to do all the bosses even if they can skip some.
I wonder if Chill on Initiative has actually been tested internally. I kinda get the feeling that it would be incredibly painful to try to deal with; Chill’s still a very nasty condition even if it only affects utility skills, and while I’m not an expert in thieves, condition clearing isn’t exactly their strong suit.
This way every class will have access to this and no one will bish about stealth any longer.
Earlier in the thread, someone suggested making Light fields reveal Stealthed players inside them.
It seems kinda sensible that that would work, and also that being affected with Burning would reveal you. I mean, if they can’t see the fire, they’d probably see the smoke.
Make it cost the same as Supply Mastery and maybe it’ll work.
So if you are really into wvw, you will have to spend a one time cost for pvt gears (I suggest getting these from SE dungeon runs, cheap and easy since you are pve oriented plus the grenth temple for trinkets). Also every time you change between pve and wvw you will spend on resetting traits (3+ silver).
Or buy Invader’s gear using the hundred billion badges of honor that ANet gave out with the achievement chests.
I think allowing people to reset their world abilities on a whim would be a really bad idea, and I’d suggest making the penalty period longer. I think scheduled 3-6 month resets would be a good idea; not able to do it on a whim, but something that’s announced and that you can plan around. It’s not even necessary to have respecs at all- There’s no cap, so you can just keep working towards whatever WvW ability takes your fancy.
Also, account-bound levels would be fantastic. I’d love to level my alts in WvWvW but it feels as though whenever I enter on anything but my main I’m wasting my time. Even if WxP returns were reduced on a lower level character, if the ranks were account wide, I’d find it much less painful- And that might even help to disincentivise people from bringing their low-level characters to filled zones, as WXP from kills increases.
Also, it’s not actually in this thread just yet, but in case it comes up: Allowing different characters to have the same rank, but allow them to place their points differently, would be a bad idea. It might seem innocuous at the ranks we have now, but later on it’ll bite the game in the butt when people are pushing rank 500-1000; instead of respeccing or grinding for the traits they want, they can just powerlevel a new character through crafting and gear them up completely, for about 150g, at a high-end estimate.
Damage to walls is, IMO, a horrible idea. Inflating power of siege engines will just end up devaluing walls. It’s already easy enough to golem rush a keep; do we really need every siege weapon having a +50% increase in damage through their trait lines and Siege Might?
IMHO, change 1 and 4 to +200% turn speed and +damage vs players only. The 5 pt trait should pretty much always bring a lot of bang for your buck, and bonus damage against players makes it more punchy without making walls weaker.
Also, bleeding on gravel shot seems superfluous. Maybe change it to Crippling.
Edit: Wait this is from a livestream? Interesting.
I think it was actually an secret magic incantation involving players’ 2 keys. Between the Zhaitan battle and thieves across all servers, ‘2’ was finally pressed enough times to release the energies necessary to form more ascended gear.
brutal shot isn’t really that good tho =/
look at me, ma, i made a funny
Replace Shadow Fiend or Bone Fiend for Flesh Wurm. Flesh Wurm does two important things;
a. It does more damage. Its vomit hits for 1-1.1k w/ training of the master.
b. It gives you an out. If you get attacked, your Signet won’t be enough to save you in a retreat. Flesh Wurm porting and then legging it will disorient your opponent, and it’ll give you 1200 range foot up on escaping your opponent.
Bloodthirst: seems like a poor choice without a Dagger mainhand. It’ll be boosting your minion’s life draining which certainly helps quite a bit, and your Vampirism, but… That’s about it. You don’t attack quickly enough to really benefit from Vampirism, so it may be worth changing either your weapon or the trait. There are two ways you can go about this;
a. Change the Scepter with a Dagger.
b. Change the trait to something more suitable. As a condition build, Mark of Evasion will be incredibly helpful; more bleeds is always nice to have, and granting regeneration both to yourself and your minions is very helpful.
Greater Marks flows on from the Bloodthirst complaint up there. If you change to Mark of Evasion, Greater Marks will actually be insanely helpful as being able to reliably land Mark of Evasion will help to keep you and your minions alive. Without Mark of Evasion, your minion healing isn’t quite so reliable, so you’ll probably want to change this to Minion Mastery.
Put the Superior Sigil of Corruption on one of your underwater weapons. In the Borderlands, which is where you’ll spend most of your time solo campwhacking, you can pretty easily go for a dip and get your stacks to 25.
Your Runes don’t really offer much benefit to you. +20% fear duration, but you have neither Master of Terror, Sigil of Paralyzation, Terror, or anything to really capitalise on it. My suggestions;
a. Lyssa. You have one of the lowest Elite skill CDs in the game. Charge is only beaten out by traited Basilisk Venom, I think, and clearing conditions really helps in any situation where you’d want it to be charging. The boons can also make for a nasty burst after the Charge.
b. Dwayna. If you’re taking Mark of Evasion and Greater Marks, it might be worth stacking up some Healing Power and boosting that Regen duration a bit.
Spite
Gift of Spite
Whenever you grant yourself Retaliation, nearby allies will gain an equal duration of Retaliation.
Your retaliation effects last 20% longer.
Curses
Curse of the Master
Your minions have a 15% chance to cause one of the following conditions when attacking:
Bleed(2 stacks, 3 seconds)
Poison(2 seconds)
Torment(1 stack, 2 seconds)
Death Magic
Never Waste a Corpse
Whenever one of your minions dies, gain a boon.
Blood Fiend: Regeneration (6s)
Bone Fiend: Retaliation (6s)
Shadow Fiend: Protection (5s)
Bone Minion/Jagged Horror: Might(1/15s)
Flesh Wurm: Swiftness (10s)
Flesh Golem: Stability (5s)
Blood Magic
Toxic Power
Whenever you are poisoned, gain 5 seconds of Regeneration and Vigor. This effect can only occur once every 20 seconds.
Soul Reaping
Frozen in Fear
Your Fear effects apply 3 seconds of Chill to the target.
Gift of Spite gives the necromancer more of an ability to grant Boons to its allies, which is something that they’re sorely missing right now. It also directly competes and synergises with Spiteful Spirit.
Curse of the Master makes you feel slightly less silly when you use minions as a condition spec, and allows your minions a solid route to being fire-and-forget attackers in conjunction with Training of the Master.
Never Waste a Corpse fills out the options for a Death Magic-centric Necromancer, and grants a possible consideration for a non-Grandmaster minion-centric trait.
Toxic Power gives the Necromancer a means by which to gain Vigor, and the Regeneration is mostly gravy. Besides, I find it kind of surprising that Necromancers can’t benefit from being poisoned outside of Well of Power. It also makes Corrupt Boon a bit better, though, and I’m not sure that it needs it.
Frozen in Fear gives an option for builds which don’t really rely on Fear too much outside of as an interrupt.

I’ve got 15. 6 of them are 80s; necro/ranger/warrior/thief/engi/ele. My mesmer and guardian are both at 29. The rest are assorted duplicates of different races.
I agree completely. The precedent really smells. That’s not to say they can’t promote gem purchases by offering things for free with the deal, that’s fine, but not being transparent with their plans is really not endearing me to them.
That’s still small in my opinion. People don’t read signs. Big is plastering that all over the Gem store, these forums, other forums, game sites etc. That’s over the top really for this reward. So just small, I reckon.
Fair enough. The ticker gets a pretty good amount of exposure, I think, as it’s pretty much the first thing you see when you press ‘o’, so I put it in the ‘big’ box.
Guys, it’s a kite. It does nothing. Settle down.
The kite doesn’t really worry me, it’s the trend that could come out of it. Unannounced bonus items which you can’t anticipate, or even know if they’re going to happen… It smells like a bit of a dodgy practice to me if it does turn into a trend.
Of course, if it doesn’t turn into a trend, then my concerns aren’t much more than hot air. But with two ‘presents’ in such quick succession, I don’t think it’s unreasonable skepticism.
Very true.
A small line somewhere, sometime about this, though, would have let them to squeeze a bit more from people who waiver a little on gem purchases.
I worked way too long in retail…
Why small, if I can ask? I don’t see why not to go big. Make it one of the banners in the gem store; “buy x worth of gems this month, get a free kite”.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
Are ‘presents’ for buying gems with real money going to be the norm now? Am I the only one with a bad feeling about this?
You can use gold too.
You can’t use gold to buy gems and be eligible for Anet’s presents. You have to buy gems with real money. I’ve bought at least a few things using Gold->Gems lately but didn’t get anything.
Are ‘presents’ for buying gems with real money going to be the norm now? Am I the only one with a bad feeling about this?
I’m perfectly okay with it if Anet actually comes out and says it. Just put it in the gem store; “buy gems with real money this month and get a complimentary x!” But hiding the exact dates until after the fact seems a bit ethically dubious.

Right now, I’m farting around on a warrior with a warhorn and a banner, cycling between Inspire and Charge to get yaks running to Hills so we can get a waypoint there. A thought occured- Should Anet reinstate yak rewards? I don’t quite see how it’d be exploitable, and it might make it feel like less of a personal waste of time to be doing it. After all, if you want to get money, you can finish a COF1 run in about the time it takes to escort one of the longer yaks.
But that way they have also deprived us from using many items that would have been harmless and fun to use in WvW.
Such as?
Harpy pheromones, mostly.
I saw that some friends from WvW made their appearance this morning in the taking of DB BL bay. Good to have you guys and hope TC gives you a warm welcome.
so who did TC convince(buy) to join(bandwagon to) your server?
Now, now, don’t be a spoilsport.
The guild’s tag is [WvW].
Thanks for that. That second one’s interesting; it reads like I could just leave something on my keyboard key of choice and have it click as part of the keyboard options, like when you hold down the a key and you get aaaaaaa, though I’m not sure. Science time~
OMFG, why not ask for a quantity menu to be added to vendors instead of trying to invent some crappy out of the game program !
suggestions have been made about this already, including by me !
Hopefully they’ll take the implicit hint and get around to it already.
Bannable offense.
Can’t you place buy orders?
Buying the Zhaitaffy off the trading post and then using that Zhaitaffy to buy candy at the vendor. Apologies for not making that clear.
I want to buy Zhaitaffy off the trading post to turn into some of the candy, but the second half of that is so incredibly tedious that I don’t think I’d be able to do it for longer than a minute without wanting to tear my mouse hand off. So I thought “hey maybe I should get a program to click for me!”, but I dunno if that’s going to get me banned.
From the Rules of Conduct:
20. You may not use any third-party program (such as a “bot”) in order to automate gameplay functions, including playing, chatting, interacting, or gathering gold or items within Guild Wars 2. You may not assist, relay, or store gold or items for other players who are using these processes.
Acceptable workaround for a lack of a multi-buying command, or bannable offense? Are there any posts elsewhere that allow or disallow doing this?
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
The thing is, there are things in this game that add character to the game, and some people just ignore them. You need to get the Temple of Balthazar open (at least most people do) if you want obsidian shards. It’s a very long, and quite difficult quest chain.
There are quest chains for temples that you need to get exotic armor with specific stats for Karma.
These things are in the game.
These are, unfortunately, the exceptions rather than the rule, in my opinion. I absolutely love the feeling of progression in Orr, but that’s the only place to experience it, and it’s the one of the few places the meta-event system really shines. Another one of those places is the chain in northern Harathi Hinterlands, and I think the game would be better if they were a more consistent element.
Also, the assured rare chests should be as difficult to get as one another. Killing Shadow Behemoth doesn’t really feel like an accomplishment; they really should be the summation of a meta-event rather than just big fights.
Lol? Cleansing Ire is worthless. Since it removes conditions on adrenaline usage, it gets prevented by the very conditions it is supposed to remove. Try landing that Eviscerate when you are blinded, crippled, or chilled.
Longbowwwwwwww.
Longbowwwww!
(i’m not a warrior so i can’t really pick this stuff apart)
Still its RNG. If you get something you don’t want you can’t complain, tradable or not because you know that item may be in there. Fireworks are soul bound so are you upset when get those from an RNG crate?
If Anet doesn’t want my feedback on what they’re offering, then they’re free to ignore it. If they want to get my money, or more likely money from or repair their reputation with the countless people annoyed by the RNG factor attached to these tokens, they can make a very simple change to fix it.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
I guess if you think throwing a few hundred gems away to hopefully get something that is available already on the TP and drops more frequently in open world than tickets is your thing then okay. I don’t see why you would be angry if you still got a dragon ticket. It’s better than candy and cakes right?
I’m sorry but I have a hard time thinking that buying RNG crates for wings is a good idea especially considering their value on the TP isn’t mind blowing. Either way when you buy RNG crates your really have no reason to be angry about what comes out because you know the risk going into it.
It’s not really better than candy and cakes because at least I can sell that. You’re assigning a positive value to tickets where I have assigned no value. I have zero interest in a ticket. Zero. Nothing. If they cost 1 gem, I would not buy them. I’d be kittened because, while I know these things are valuable (to people who are not me) and said people would be more than happy to pay quite a bit of gold for one, I wouldn’t be able to. I wouldn’t even be able to give it to a friend.
I already know the maths are against buying chests to try to get dragon wings. I wouldn’t try to do it, either, but that’s not the point. I like that I have the option to sell something that is of zero value to me, to someone else who does attach value to it.
I’d probably say Warriors got the biggest boosts overall. Cleansing Ire with Burst Mastery seems like it’d be insanely nasty. Don’t know who’s on top of the pile, now, though.
Why don’t they just, y’know. Sell the tokens. Or make the tokens resellable.
Anything that comes out of a gamblebox should be resellable. If I got a dragon token out of one of the boxes I opened (not many, admittedly), I’d be pretty kitten ed, because I do not care one iota about the dorky-looking dragon weapons.
Why would you buy a box in the first place if you don’t want what might be in it and getting what might be in it would make you angry?
Me not buying things is also totally acceptable to me but I doubt it’s Anet’s end goal.
Besides, maybe I want the dragon wings.
so i can sell them

I haven’t tried it much, but blasting a fire field for Might seems to be giving double the Might returns (6 stacks rather than 3).
I’ve tested it using Ring of Fire; Phoenix and Dragon’s Tooth are granting 6 stacks of Might, and Earthquake and Churning Earth are granting 3 stacks.
I think WvWvW abilities can’t be changed for a reason. They want those choices to be long-term ones that you can’t change easily. At the end of the day, it’d either be so cheap as to destroy this idea, or so expensive that it causes the forums to whine endlessly about the price until it’s nerfed.
A swiftness potion sounds exploitable.
Herb stealth would be hilarious with a full zerg.
Also I think they’re releasing WXP boosters next patch. I’d like to see a +WXP utility infusion at some point.
NPCs are fine. Using targeted channels to tag stealthed players is a great way to counter them, and stealth doesn’t need more buffs. Camps are already soloable despite the NPCs conditions; try changing your tactics.
