Waypoints are an upgrade that you can purchase at a Keep or a Castle. If the Keep/Castle is invaded by one of the other Worlds in WvWvW, upgrades are cleared, and therefore the waypoint upgrade is cleared.

No you haven’t. A well placed arrow cart cannot be reached by a treb at the lower platforms near the puzzle entrance. Not to mention your treb can be easily zerged by enemies from the two other servers waypointing to their keep and running back into the puzzle.
It’s a wasted effort to begin with and a poor tactic.

2.Mercenary-Tired of being in a 6 hour que? que up as a merc and be tossed into a random wvw encounter on a free slot. Not including matches where your server is involved of course. This bulks up low pop servers with mercs and mercs can receive special rewards for their action while not waiting several hours to join wvw.

I don’t think this is a solution on its own, but I think it’d be a great idea anyway. Overflow servers have proved their value already, and this would be the same thing. One thing I’d have to suggest, though, would be some kind of prioritisation for servers you’ve merced for already.

These seem like bad ideas to me.

1a. I’m Australian and have American friends. While guesting is nice, I’d very much like to be able to WvWvW with them.
b. Oceanic population isn’t enough to sustain more than a few servers. Not that much of a problem, ultimately, but it would be very easy for Anet to miss the sweet spot as far as no. of servers goes.
c. It doesn’t fix the problem. There’ll still be people who play the game during non-prime time; shift workers, people playing via proxy, etc.

2. This is a ‘hard’ fix. While it’s sound in its basic idea (“hey, these times are unbalanced, lets unbalance the scores to compensate”), it completely disregards how many people are actually playing. I’ve proffered a similar solution… Somewhere, I can’t remember where it was, but it’s not difficult to math out a formula which diminishes rewards based on current population of all three servers on the field.

3. Removing the MMR system would make it even more unfair and more unfun than it already is. As a top tier player, you’d be matched against servers which you’d absolutely steamroll- that’s fun for nobody involved.

I think defenders of quiet locations receiving no rewards is a bigger issue. Same with the insubstantial level 80 reward system. Every single dungeon has at least 3 sets of armor with different stats; PvP gear only has Power/Toughness/Vitality.

Warhammer got this right.
All we need is a simple change.
Upgrade can be made only be made by the claiming guild.
Upgrade take money from the guild bank.
Guild should have an automatic tax. Every coin you make a X% goes to the guild bank.

We already have that system(well, the every time you do X) in Influence.

I feel like wvw needs its own currency that is used for nothing but upgrades and siege weapons. It would be reset at the beginning of each new match up so it couldn’t be hoarded and how rich you were from pve would have no effect on wvw. At the same time make it so badges of honor and silver could no longer be used for buying siege or upgrades.

I thought this was the point of Badges of Honor. Wouldn’t actually mind if it were added as an explicit currency like Karma and Gold are, and given as a consistent reward from completing events in WvWvW.

@OP; this is just disgusting. It’s obviously no fun for the people losing their orbs, and it’s completely unfair to the 99% of the server who are getting their name smeared by one clown using this exploit. Really hoping that Anet doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to punishing whoever’s responsible.

While a deeper/more interesting tech tree might be nice, with the current design of WvWvW, NPCs should never be a counter for significant player action. They’re designed to be speedbumps; a supplement to help defend a position and tip the tide in the favor of the outnumbered defenders, not fight the battle for you.

If NPCs want to be stronger, then the attackers deserve some NPCs assisting them, similar to a MOBA. It would make WvWvW a very different environment.

I think it definitely needs to be set at its intended values for standard play (gem cost and cooldown). Server ratings will then match the no-transfer environment and it’ll eventually gravitate to where it’s most accurate.

On a tangentially related note, it might be worth not charging to transfer to certain underpopulated servers (how you doing Kaineng).

I don’t know why they just don’t bar people from transferring to servers that they are currently facing in WvW?

This seems like a sensible option, provided servers aren’t perpetually locked into fighting one another (sup Maguuma/TC).

This problem seems to be interacting with stealth in some very strange ways; it can take 2-3 seconds for unstealthing targets to actually appear for me. Not sure whether this is a local problem, an Australian problem or everyone’s problem. Kind of wondering whether it would be feasible for stealthed enemies to remain in memory for the client but hidden from the player; not really good enough at computers to articulate a solution.

Even with forward deployed waypoints for attackers taking a keep would than take ages. It’s just a very, very, very, very bad idea.

A perfect example would be WoW vanila Alterac Valey

Which wasn’t one battle. It was a series of battles in several locations. The map was a little bit chokier, but the same principles apply.

Analyzing, anticipating, manipulating and countering your opponents’ movements is a key part of strategy. Zergs are the lowest common denominator when it comes to strategy; if you have capable strategists, you can outmaneuver and outplay them without a problem. Having waypoints to make it possible to instantly teleport anywhere on the map would remove strategy from WvWvW and just turn it into ‘tactics’.

PvP in the zone is fine; it’s a PvP zone for a reason. I think that the siege weapons(at least in areas which you cannot reliably place your own siege weapons to counteract them) is a bit too much. Watching people set up trebuchet to fire across the chasm is excellent.

Traps are fun. More log traps, please.

Dont you guys think that its kind of pathetic that we have by far the least amount of the map control right now and you are still 2v1ing us? Explain to me how that makes the game fair. Just because you guys got stomped last week?

We’re not doing it to spite you. We’re doing it because depriving you of the orb is the most tactically sound option in Maguuma Borderlands, and since we can’t do that directly, we’re applying pressure on your other holdings.

I can’t say anything for the other battlefields, except for seeing 4 golems stride past SM on their way to Anz, but if Maguuma wants to ignore us and beat you up it would be unbecoming of us to keep them from it.

I don’t think 24-hours is the problem, or part of any solution.

Here are the problems:

  • Players are dumb and refuse to transfer out of overpop servers
  • Arenanet is dumb and refuses to reveal queue information so that people who actually might move have a real idea of where to go
  • Rams are too cheap + doors are too weak + NPC guards are too weak + NPC Lords have way too few hit points. This means that once one server gains enough of a lead to start winning, the map sweep happens very, very quickly. Even a fully upgraded garrison can be taken in less than 5 minutes from start to finish if there aren’t enough player-defenders to slow them down. (In DAOC, NPC defenses were far more robust and keep lords had enormous amounts of hit points.)

WvW as-is gives attackers more of an advantage than defenders, purely by not giving defense much time to respond.

Oh:

  • Players need to build more arrow carts now. Retaliation doesn’t damage them anymore and 5 arrowcarts firing together will waste zergs……..assuming the weak doors, guards and lords give the defenders any time to get there.

I just have one problem with this, really; operating a siege weapon in a protracted siege right now is very, very boring. With toughened doors, it’ll become even longer, and consequently even more boring.

Maybe make it so that autocast actually works, so you can afk and make a sandwich or play Flash games in your browser while you bash down a door with your ram?

Sounds like you just want to find a server that’s more in tune with what you want out of the game. Go ahead and swap servers; it’s the most reasonable decision to make, and you’ll still get good competition. You could, alternatively, undertake the Herculean task that is changing your entire server’s WvWvW mentality.

Personal skill has very little to do with success in WvWvW. There’s the fact that organisational skill is much more important, there’s the night capping issue and there’s the issue of how willing people are to spend their money and how much money they even have. The server actually being good at the game doesn’t really figure into it. If you want a truly competitive arena, you’re sadly going to have to look somewhere else, at least for now.

Variable point ticks cannot work. All servers across all brackets need to have the exact same scoring system so their scores can be compared for rematching. If a higher bracket server has points increment reduced as they out man their opponents, servers in lower brackets will be mismatched by their higher score increments.

This assumes that the scores themselves are being compared, not the proportions between the scores.

I think that “boring” tasks should be giving rewards. Things like watching gates, defending supply camps, escorting dolyaks etc; that sort of stuff. Weighing up the pros and cons of following a zerg that will ultimately achieve nothing, but will reward me, or defending a location which will achieve something for the team, but not offer any personal benefit for me, is a dilemma that I don’t think has any reason to exist in the game.

How you’d actually quantify those ‘boring’ things is something of a problem, but it shouldn’t depend on the slight offchance that somebody comes to attack your objective.

I don’t understand why the form is so masculine. I mean, necromancers are casters, and in Lich Form you don’t really use those bulging muscles at all.

Wow, your well of darkness is so powerful it may as well be an elite, and the rest of them are borderline cases. 8 seconds of near-invulnerability and 20% crit for everyone for 8-18 seconds? Possibly better than or equal to time warp, and that’s the best elite I’ve seen.

I’d actually be totally keen on an Elite well that has some real oomph to it.

orbs and undermanned buffs should be switched around, they are just some kind of sadistic pun (the side already winning get a power bonus, the side that cant win because is undermanned get a gold/xp bonus to what they cant win).
this said, why the side with less and worse players should win?

I would love this. Orbs having explicit power is just asking for trouble, but the MF bonuses from an orb would still make them incredibly attractive.

I just want to say, I’m on Tarnished Coast. Currently it’s at Dragonbrand 295, TC 235, Maguuma 165. We at TC have Stonemist, and our home borderlands are, at this moment, almost fully under our control.

A horrible start is not the end of the game. We may be fairly far behind in the points, but we’re pulling ahead.

Don’t write everything off yet.

And in the 40 minutes since this post, DB has wiped our local Borderlands and pushed scoring back to 395/160/140. Doesn’t really feel good to have an entirely blue map turn green in the blink of an eye.

No, the problem is that you will have 10 pvers escorting 1 dolyak that doenst need to be escorted just for the exp, when they should be helping protect or get keeps etc… They are called dolyak farmers and they are taking pvpers spots, and that is why Anet removed exp from dolyaks escorts.

…As I said, the problem is with protecting or capturing keeps. People will gravitate to where the credit is.

Escorting a dolyak is a helpful thing to do in WvWvW. It rewards XP and karma appropriately. If people aren’t doing other things, preferring to exclusively escort dolyaks, the problem is with the other tasks.

Maybe adding stuff like entrenchments and fixed defenses to the supply camps and such? Something that can be bypassed but where defenders are offered a bit of a defensive bonus.

I was thinking of something like an upgrade which would allow you to easily recover all your completed upgrades at a supply camp once you retake it, or generally disallowing camps from losing their upgrades. Camps change hands too easily at the moment and I think it’s too easy for a small group to kill off that many upgrades; their upgrades should reflect their easily gained/lost nature.

I think bases could use a bit of iteration in how they’re managed. There’s only so far that social solutions can go; some people seem to just turn off their chat and go crazy, and it can take just one person to completely deprive a base of income.
