If FHs becomes BL, would you still take Disc?

in Warrior

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

I need Disc for not only 25% speed, but also “Brawler’s Recovery”. Having an instant condi-clear (Even if it only removes one) on an ability that doesn’t require you to land a hit, have a target, turn off auto-heal, or use a utility slot (Which you may not have access to, depending on condition). Since I mainly just open-world PvE, being able to ‘shake off’ lingering conditions like bleed and especially Cripple after a fight is way too strong of a convenience to want to pass up.

I really, really do not like Sword 3 on warrior. It’s a stupidly situational skill, and, with the Sword 2 ALSO being situational, makes sword “2-1-1-1-F1-1-1-1-1” And the burst conflicts with the otherwise good mobility of sword because it’s a root (Something Zerker sword burst fixes).

See, and I like Final Thrust a lot. It may not be so useful in pve, but against other players it hits almost as hard as an eviscerate and it cleaves. The highest damage I’ve had with it against a player is about 12k or so, and then about 25k against an NPC (Tower Lord).

Deff not situational, pretty easy to know when a target is 50% or lower, either flurry or stun them for the guaranteed land, I’ve had it hit for 13k against 2 thieves and killed them both instantly, which was funny because it was after a HB, standing still, and I was about to go down and just threw it out as a hail mary. I’ll never be able to re-create that lol. Just wish the animation was faster.

By ‘situational’, I meant that the mechanical use of it is is almost purely ’Wait for opposing healthbar to reach 50% before using".

The problem with the ‘trinity’ is that it cuts off a few roles that have been discovered. There are four roles in most parties – Controller, Striker, Defender, and Supporter. And everyone can contribute to all roles, but not equally.

Even the outfits, the current crank-out-once-per-week cash cow, is very hit or miss on style. Slayer outfit? Tragic. The only reason the Gwen outfit sells is because of the nostalgia brand name; it’s otherwise far too plain and looks shoddy on men.
Sniper Bandit outfit? Typical of lazy anti-Charr design.
Would be nice to have some effort for the two non-human races in the game, to be honest. And while I don’t mind one way or another, some people would like some feminine flair to otherwise androgynous females of those races. Maybe not halter tops and mini skirts, but design that shows consideration to ‘softer’ silhouettes.

And possibly show off those awesome furry legs on Charr. But when they do go with dimorphic charr outfits, we end up with an atrocity like the Ancestral outfit, where the male’s:
*fits the body nicely
*Has all details properly scaled to the charr model
*Accommodates the tail
*Comes with a tail decoration that spans the whole length!

And the female armor:
*Has a boob window to nothing
*Hideously oversized dragon around the neck
*Makes no effort to accommodate the tail.
*Leaves said tail bare while clipping through the stupid trenchcoat

At least they got the Wedding dress right.

I do like the Royal Guard outfit on Charr – it accommodates the tail, and its helm even makes room for the charr’s ears and horns! (Something the Tier 1 Cultural armor doesn’t even get right)

… I think they can solve all the problems by adding a furry loincloth to the game (Bikini for sylvari, human, and norn females), and slap Lord Faren’s name on it. So we can be Tarzan of Maguuma.

Honestly I think they’re bias toward the light armours and heavy armours got it the worse!

When it come to the crafting armours, the light armours are all flashy looking (especially the females) while the early heavy armours look the same but with different texture!

Ok sure the original GW Warrior armors were not flashy either but they were at least decent looking!

I find the male heavy armor set to be the best, aside from the “While leveling” whites and greens.

But heavy armor has a good diversity of revealing armors, fully-protective armors, bulky plates, lighter wear, kilts, pants, and helmet types.

No armor is as bad as Medium Armor, which is nothing but slight texture variation of a trenchcoat outside of the cultural armors.

The male and charr light armor is awful.

Worth playing after level 80?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sartharina.3542

Is it worth playing after level 80? If so, could you tell me the reasons. Is there any story?Thank you!

1. There’s still a whole world to explore. The game’s dynamic scaling keeps every zone relevant, so you can still go anywhere and do anything at level 80. If there’s content you found fun while leveling, you can still go back and do it at level 80, unless it’s a completed renown heart (There are some that are unique instead of just fetch/kill quests)
2. Living Story Season 2 and HoT provide more story, assuming you’ve done the complete living story. And, Renown hearts and metaevents on the maps continue to tell the world’s story in every zone you haven’t done yet.

You know, just cutting down the exp. required to level up solves all of this without shifting anything else. Do that by 10~12% and you get what you want for the most part. As for the hero challenges … I can’t really say there’s a fix for that.

I think we level up too fast, though. At least from level-to-level. I do not like outleveling zones, despite the level scaling.

But leveling is so quick. I really don’t see the need to cut things down.

This actually might be a bit of the problem. The most obnoxious thing about leveling is keeping gear up to date, due to how fast you outpace the gear you get. And that causes all sorts of issues with the scaling system.

Kek, kappa .... What?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sartharina.3542

Kek is a carryover from WoW. The two opposing sides in that game can’t speak to each other. Kek is lol translated from hoarde as seen by alliance, iirc.

That is, a hoarde player will type lol in chat and an alliance player sees kek in the hordes player’s chat.

Which is, in turn, a nod to StarCraft’s Korean players, in which “kekeke” is a sort of “hahaha”.

Possibly, but I would assume it’s just a coincidence. I’ve never seen a sentence and its translation written out but I doubt Blizzard put a lot of effort in it. It’s more likely the consonants are shifted over by one (k instead of L) and the vowels are also shifted over by some number.

Maybe someone who plays WoW can comment if it’s shifted over or not?

They’re not switched over, or displaced. It’s a cipher.

The “kekeke” is only really used by S. Koreans in online games, and it started in SC. There’s a key in korean keyboards that generates “ke”, and it became a sort of mocking laugh, often directed toward western players.

When you realise “lol” translates into “kek” and you’re aware of the above, particularly the language divide but the well known expression of laughter, coupled with the knowledge that Blizzard pay very close attention to their communites/online and their games are full of these kind of references, it seems an unlikely coincidence.

That said I’m unaware of any statement from Blizzard on the matter.

Ok. It seems kind of odd they would base their cipher on one South Korean computer slang word, but no doubt odder things have happened. (By base I mean they would have has to design the cipher with that word in mind so that the finished cipher would have it work out properly).

Actually, the way the World of Warcraft languages work is that, when seen by a character that doesn’t understand the language (Usually cross-faction), it replaces the actual words with random words from the other language’s very limited dictionary that have the same number of letters. “kek” happens to be a three-letter word in WoW’s orcish language.

It’s deliberately set up so that NO translation is possible between the two – just gibberish.

Axe is sort of fine where it is, though I wish Eviscerate had a small cleave (Tiny area, but can affect stacked enemies). But otherwise, I like the way the Warrior weapons handle their bursts. (Though dodge on 2 would be neat, and give some nice survivability to the weapon)

Why does this game even have "Shortbows"?

Sartharina.3542

If shortbow should be removed because only two professions can us it then mace should follow suit and be removed too.

Or you know, its a reason to put in elitespecs that use a shortbow. And maces.

Stylistically mace is the one-handed counterpart to the two-handed hammer. Shortbow is the two-handed counterpart to the two-handed longbow. All professions (2+rev) that can use a mainhand mace can also use a hammer. Warrior can also use offhand mace. The only profession that uses both short and longbows is Ranger. It’s not a valid comparison. But I agree it’s too late to undo now, so might as well up the SB user numbers with elite specs.

I was being sarcastic. Removing any weapon because only x profession use it is a silly argument. It would mean introducing any new types of weapon would need to be used by multiple professions to be “good”. Uniqueness and originality are not something to be shunned in any game.

But the bow types are not unique. They’re curved sticks of wood using the same skin (Except at the legendary weapons. Where I personally think the legendaries are backward).

My suggestion wasn’t to “Remove” the Shortbow, but to merge it and longbow. Only one class has any distinction between the two.

There is precisely one reason why rangers dont use guns in GW….because the designers wanted it that way. It was an arbitrary decision based on personal preferences, and nothing more. And that is okay. Their game, their decision to make.

And then they made Charr, which are not only the most awesome fantasy race ever, but also culturally defined by their love of guns. And they made the Charr have a surprisingly close bond with Devourers, but then forbade us from playing characters that emphasized both sides of Charr culture

Oh yeah… and they added “Juvenile Devourers” to be tamed to the game after having all the Charr starting areas talk about how you need to train a devourer from as soon as it hatches and not a moment later. They really should replace those with “Near-hatched Devourer Eggs” for Rangers to use instead.

… at least my Ranger can still use a bazooka for 30 seconds every 5 minutes.

In my opinion part of the problem with rewards in GW2 is not enough post level 80 skins for a game that is, at least in part, about cosmetics.

The vast majority of cosmetic options in the game are earned before you get to level cap but, like most MMOs, players can expect to spend the majority of their play time after they get to level cap. So the majority of the rewards are assigned to the minority of our play.

Fortunately, GW2 doesn’t have an exclusive ‘endgame’. You can get those skins any time.

Oh yeah… and “End Game Starts At Level 1”

I was in that very map last night, and as lightly and quickly as I tapped the jump bar, my glider did deploy. I got a message about this — may in fact have been from the OP in this thread — and I suggested a discussion here on the forums.

Our situation may be our keyboards, where they can’t distinguish a quick tap from a holding tap. But I can confirm that for some of us, at least, the bloomin’ glider can result in our untimely deaths!

I recently went out and spent well over a hundred dollars on a mechanical keyboard for this very reason and it is now possible for me to jump but not glide. Possible, but not actually probable because of so many long hours holding down that space bar in fear I am not going to make a jump, fall to my death, and have to repeat a really long puzzle yet again.

My old keyboard had a really sloppy space bar and may have contributed to the learned habit of holding down to long but I kind of think the vertigo that many jumping puzzles seem to invoke are the real culprit.

Maybe instead of no fly zones their could be ‘safety’ zones around jumping puzzles that only deploy the glider once your fall rate crosses some threshold that would kill you or if your approaching the ground at a ‘terminal’ velocity.

Or they could simply just require double-tap to glide, with tapping before/during the apex of the jump deploying the glider as soon as it’s ready.

Sartharina.3542

“Why does this game even have shortbows?”

Because not everything is about maximizing every number. Sometimes it’s just about fun. Or looks. Or some preconceived roleplaying preference. Or any number of other things.

And if eliminating non-maximum/efficient gear was the prevailing mentality, then why doesn’t the game just assign whatever the meta is to each character when it reaches level 80 and make it simple on everyone? Kinda like skills 6+ for Revenant.

Did you not read my opening post? It had nothing to do with eliminating weapons because they’re ‘subpar’, but instead mostly about maximizing class access to legendary bow skins. Because I agree – The game is mostly about looks. So why do we have an almost-useless distinction between weapons (Longbow and Shortbow) that really only exists for a single class (Ranger). Instead of locking out Guardians and Warriors from using The Dreamer and the upcoming Champawat, and preventing Thieves from using Kudzu, I was wondering why not make them all the same weapon? It’s not like there are any differences between the long and shortbow non-legendary skins aside from unnoticable scale differences

… and on the whole “Rangers shouldn’t use Guns” debate… well, one of the most legendary rangers from the Real World strongly disagrees:

Most players don’t even know about this change.

Because it’s such low impact content for most people that it doesn’t affect them.

Some of them own at least 1 legendary weapon.
They simply don’t read the news.
As I said, they were disapointed – so it affected them.

They shouldn’t be … they have 20+ more Legendaries to craft. More content than they could possible handle if they have only managed one so far. I can see being disappointed if you have ALL the legendaries, but just one? That’s makes no sense. If I have just one, and there are 20 more to go, I’m not disappointed … I can’t even keep up with the old ones, let alone any new ones they make.

Or only just one or two legendaries to craft. How many people want Champawat, yet have no desire for The Dreamer? Or any non-shortbow?

I’m still working on my first legendary (Sunrise), but I was eager to see what the new sword and shield would look like.

No it isn’t. The staircase was made out of 382 clouds the last time I checked it in our GH. It starts right in the center of the GH south of the central WP. The path to the “updraft vent” (the one that vanishes when you get close or after a while watching it) is half way up the staircase.
The sandy area you see is on top of the rock formation that creates the ceiling for the mining area. You can easily hit invisible walls that are the boundaries of the rectangular box that surrounds the complete Gilded Hollow map.

2. Just look around you in game. Even in the harder areas, legendaries are still in the minority.

Could there be an Elite Specialization for Ranger that uses Rifle? Oh heck yeah there could be! The whole idea of Elite Specializations is to take the Core Profession and completely flip its theme on its head, and a Rifle would work wonders for that. But Core Ranger will never and should never have a Rifle as their weapon, because as has been stated several times before, it clashes with the thematics of the Ranger itself.

I’ve already thought of two! One is rifle, one is pistol. The pistol elite spec was actually thought up as a (gag) response to a request for a martial artist class.

Elite Specialization Rifle: “Commando”
This spec is based on the myths/legends surrounding Army Rangers and other special forces units (And in Hollywood, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Commando” or “Predator” characters, and Sylvester Stallone’s “Rambo”. But with a dog, too! Stealth, ambushes, and close/medium-range combat (Range 900 max instead of the rifle’s normal 1200, and most effective at less than 300)

Elite Specialization Pistol: “Walker” – It uses a pistol 2-handed, and always keeps it sheathed.
Pistol 1: Right Punch>Left Punch>BEARDFIST (Damages and confuses foe)
Pistol 2: Uppercut – Damage+Daze foe.
Pistol 3: Haymaker – Damage+Stun foe.
Pistol 4: Roundhouse Kick: Sweeping Knockback attack
Pistol 5: “Warning Shot” – nondamaging AoE fear effect.
And Downed 2 becomes a pistol shot that deals massive damage.

But honestly – I’d have loved to play a charr ranger with just a trusty rifle and devourer at her side.

I find it interesting how some people seem to know what you want with out really asking what it is you want. if you want enough mastery point you have to do content you do not want to do. you are telling people. awwww you don’t need this or that because they do not apply to YOU. the point is the central tyrian mastery you do not get enough point to master all those to max the mastery out there as for HOT I can care less if I can understand a group of frogs or endlessly glide across a map as tho the thought has some appeal. the central tyrian mastery is the most peoples issue and you do neeed to do most ALL the mastery tick to get it. because as it stands you may get enough points to get all the pact commander 3/4th the fractal and 2/4 legendary crafting which who knows if I was to have a moronic moment I might want to craft one. but if that happens I might want to seek medical attention. having these is like buying a car that has the option to have a 300 hp engine so you have the engine but you don’t have to use it but it is there if needed. I think that is the major complant with most that are not able to master the central tyrian. but also at some point Anet may add more lines to mastery in the selected lines then you are stuck and to say they will not is something you do not know unless you have a crystal ball.

There are more than enough non-fractal mastery points to more than max out the Pact Commander mastery line doing content you enjoy (As long as you finish Personal Story to actually be the Pact Commander), which is the ONLY mastery track worth a kitten to people who don’t run fractals and don’t want to do the crazy random stuff the game wants you to.

Tribulation mode is not hard.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

…so what would hard actually look like, to you?

Probably removing (most of) the hidden part of all the traps. As it is, it’s a test of memory, not reflexes or strategy. Not even a test of observation and attention like Pain Cliffs is.

You find a guide, because otherwise you’ll be dying a lot, and you memorize the path. Done.

If it were challenging/hard content, rather than punishing content, then you wouldn’t need a guide to avoid a hundred deaths.

That might be hard mode for the regular game, but it wouldn’t fit the Zeldathic theme. In fact, the entire reason I don’t like games like that is that they are set up to be nearly identical each time, that the entire challenge of any mode is about learning the route and remembering where to turn, twist, hide, fight, avoid fights, etc.

Again, I think the point here is that the OP doesn’t like the challenge of tribulation mode. That should be okay with them and with us — SAB isn’t for everyone and Tribulation Mode is for a smaller subset.

Just because we don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s poorly designed or inherently flawed.

tl;dr it’s okay not to like SAB and it’s okay not to like Tribulation Mode. That doesn’t mean they aren’t “hard” and “harder.”

Gonna disagree, but I think we’re just using different ideas of what “hard content” means.

I’m not talking about something you’d get from raids or the like. I’m not asking for truly hardcore content.

I’m just talking about people calling punishing content to be the same as challenging content. Some folks like punishing content – that’s fine and all. I don’t mind it, though I don’t find it enjoyable. I also dislike so many achievement points (over 200) being locked behind such a niche content.

For example, Agemnon.4608’s example of: “Imagine what the developers could do with expansion maps? You’re dodge jumping to a ledge and narrowly make it, then you perform a tight dodge jump around the corner…only to be confronted with the next expansion’s equivalent of shadow reapers and mordrem tormentors? And they’d respawn too.”

That’s punishing content, not challenging, and not necessarily difficult either. And while there are (obviously) some who enjoy that, it is not something that should be considered a “main attraction”. Tribulation mode is considered a primary (well, secondary – but certainly not tetriary) content to SAB, given that the majority of SAB’s rewards (half if not more) are locked behind it.

… I fail to see what makes it ‘punishing’ instead of ‘challenging’. Can you enlighten me? There is a challenge in being able to pull off a complex platforming sequence flawlessly while navigating hard-to-see/invisible obstacles.

Why does this game even have "Shortbows"?

I only use Short bows, but i’m PvE ranger.. And yeah i’d never bother with the Dreamer either, who ever thought that legendary was a good idea should be moved on from Gaming Design in my opinion.

I like the Dreamer. I just wish it were a longbow so my Guardian and Warrior could use it to send unicorns majestically galloping across the battlefield.

But who decided to not let Mesmers be able to use it?

Thank you Arenanet (Infinite SAB Coin)

I like the ICC because it’ll serve as a bank-space memento of the event when it’s over.

I used to love SAB but they made it too hard… I used to love Jumping Puzzles but they made them too hard..

It kinda puts me off the whole thing when you just cannot pass content anymore.

… They’ve made SAB W2 easier this time around, and W1 is very easy anyway when 90% of the world isn’t traps and lava. The jumps, slopes, and platforms are easily and clearly defined, paths are highly visible, and you can just follow pointers to the end.

Also – Charr is best race for SAB, because then it’s a “Spunky Mascot Animal” platformer! Even though it’s a 50% increase in difficulty due to charr collision box dissonance and camera wierdness.

Can I have a sigil for fury on crit?

Ooh! I like this idea! And we could call it the Berzerker’s Sigil. Then, I can run around with my Berzerker’s Berzerker Torch of the Berzerker on my Berzerker.

My eyes bleed.

Only because I use Sword mainhand and have Arms specced. That makes EVERYTHING bleed!

Remember when.

I love Tribulation mode as long as I have a friend who can put up with my absolute failure at jumping (Being a Charr doesn’t help at all here), and my complete lack of memory.

Highlight from the weekend Tribulation Run of 1-2 included me running into the same set of spike traps right in front of a lily-jumping sequence about two dozen times in a row. About half a dozen of them even had the most experienced member of the run standing in front of the spikes to deter me from running into them (And It successfully got me to veer away about half those attempts). And even when I did remember the spikes were there, I kept fouling up the lily-jumps, so…

Why Burning hasn't been nerfed yet?

Yes, yes they do. Feel the burn! BURN ALL THE THINGS! We shall kill the world WITH FIRE!

I just want to know who thought it was a good idea to put spikes on a stupidly-narrow ledge that, if you jump onto at an angle that won’t get you into the spikes, has you fall off the edge. Especially as a Charr. (That should be worth extra rewards)
