"Death From Above"

Sartharina.3542

It can be situationally useful in wvw and also there isn’t much in the tier in strentgh to take over it

i see…Still though. in the same trait line “Restorative Strength” gives you might when using a heal skill. That to me is much much better. idk..

Not really. We just slap Healing Signet on, disable our “6” key, and go Death From Above instead.

There are a lot of reasons to like Death From Above:
1. It reduces falling damage. Great if you slip from high places.
2. It makes your landings far more dramatic. Your jumps down are announced, and when you splat you crack the ground.
3. Glider+Open World+Death From Above = DIVE BOMBING! Seriously. The glider gives a LOT more action in open world Warrior/Death From Above. Especially in the more vertical maps.

Unless you don´t have physical skills on your bar it makes sense. Most warriors use healing signet so might gain is not realy useful…

Why would we waste valuable slots on those terrible physical skills? We need our stances, signets, shouts, and now Rages far more.

I actually don’t mind the loss of the Pierce on the attack. Gunflame has an explosive AoE – it didn’t really need the vector AoE as well.

I also don’t mind that they nerfed the damage to be weaker base than Killshot – Gunflame is so much more spammable, it deals sustained AoE damage. And you have the Berserk benefits on it as well.

I just wish they’d buffed the other skills so that it sustained similar DPS, just spread out more.

Video about Level 80 Boost

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sartharina.3542

So now a new player can join the game, use this boost and get instantly to level 80.
On top of that, it also gives you a complete set of soldiers armor, weapons, trinkets, food items, utility items, and unlocks certain waypoints in every level 80 map?
This is just… what?!
Don’t get me wrong, I like the new shared slot, but what’s the point of even playing the game if you’re instantly given everything you need? Doesn’t that just inherently defeat the purpose of playing the maps and lower-level content?

Is Anet that desperate for new players? Please help me understand, because I’m so lost on this one.

It’s not everything you need to play. You’re given a set of functional armor. It’s not ascended, and it’s not tailored to your preferred playstyle (Though it’s not always Soldier’s gear. Some classes get Valkyrie or Knight’s instead, for more balance between damage and survivability depending on the class’s base chassis)

Some games put a wall in front of you. Others give you a foot in the door (Which might slam on it if you screw up/wait too long). Guild Wars 2 gives you a Kool-Aid Man through the wall into the party now.

80lvl boost -throwing all maps into garbage

Sartharina.3542

The more lvl 80’s the better. Lower levels doesnt matter in this game, it takes like 4 days to get to lvl 80 in. At launch 3 years ago it took 2 weeks max. Its no big deal…Besides like earlier people wrote, its a one time thing, they have to lvl all their other chars.

but its about a game content, leveling was the most funny and entertaining aspect of this game, it wasnt “you must to do it” but noone is going to level up anymore… They made this game, all this locations for YEARS and for what ? for making a skip after few years ?

… No, leveling isn’t the most ‘funny and entertaining’ aspect of the game. It’s just clicking halfheartedly on tabs in the Hero panel. The most fun and entertaining part of the game is being out in the open world, going anywhere and killing all the assorted monsters the game has to offer either for the sake of it or on the quest to progress on a long-term goal, such as crafting a legendary.

The rest of the map is still there. Unlike… any other MMO out there, you can take your level 80 and do ‘old’ content anyway (Once you get done testing the boost out in the Silverwastes). Explore the world – There are still Hero Points and skins locked behind Map Completion, and the assorted daily rewards (Now paying 2 gold) encourage going back across Tyria. Plains of Ashford, aside from newbie-zone, is still as fun as ever on a level 10 or level 80.

Often it takes just as much time to do the research yourself as it does to post the question.

It very, very, very rarely takes as much time for someone to answer a question than it takes for them to ‘do the research’. Web pages take time to browse and load, especially if you have to alt-tab out of game to look them up. And, the internet doesn’t know the social context you’re asking about.

Sure, for something in-depth, it’s probably a good idea to direct someone to the wiki, but for things like Abreviation’s, it’s much faster for someone to ask and get a simple answer in light of the context than it is to minimize the game, open a browser window, try to phrase the question in a manner that coveys the context you’re asking, sort through chaffe if you use Google, and avoid ‘dead pages’ if you try to wiki. Especially when it comes to acronyms with multiple meanings (Like DS)

And… in the time it takes someone to say ‘Look it up", they can generally give the answer. So it’s not them saving their own effort – it’s going out of their way to spend effort they could have saved or spent constructively to instead just be an kitten.

GW2 and stats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

One of my biggest gripes is how player stats are changed based on zone levels. I feel this is a great injustice to the fantasy MMORPG genre!

Want to know why they did this? Because nice big 80s would go to a level 1-15 zone and 1 shot everything when a lowbie character was working on events or anything. Sometimes the 80s would just farm a spot that a lot of low level characters would be in just to grief them. Now both of them are almost on par and can fight equally. It’s not about loot, if you are trying to kill something, and the moment it spawns it’s dead instantly, how are you expected to even have a chance for credit.

So this can affect your immersion all you want, it is actually better for the game this way. There was a time when it wasn’t, and it was an awful mess back then.

I completely disagree. I don’t think levels should be controlled in this way. I can understand why they would do it – in a way they had no choice because they made the world one large constant zone. But it’s still stupid.

So how would you stop a level 80 1 shotting all the mobs in an area preventing a lowbie from even working on anything there? You can disagree all you want, so then how would you fix it besides how it is currently done?

I wonder how big of a problem this really is. I play several MMOs where level isn’t adjusted depending on area, and I’ve never had any problem with capped characters coming down to lower level areas and griefing me. I do my quests and level just fine and rarely ever even see a high level in these zones.

You’re looking at it backward. Frankly, the level-scaling is one of the best things about Guild Wars 2, because it, contrary to the OP, makes the game less about stats and stat progression.

It’s not about “protecting lowbies from being griefed by High-level players”. It’s about “Making the low-level zones fun for high-level characters”. In WoW, for example, if you want to have a good time, you have to hang out in an area around your level – below it, and it’s just tedious. Meaning the entire game world is restricted to New Expansion Place. In Guild Wars 2, you can take your level 80 character anywhere and still have fun with it.

Weren’t armors Profession-specific in Guild Wars (One), rather than weight-specific in Guild Wars 2? Seems like a big step forward, here in GW2, toward what OP prefers.

Are you kidding?

Weren’t dyes single-use in GW1? That made them somewhat pricey to use. I know I still have several Black Dyes sitting in my bank to this day, because I was ‘saving’ them for …..well, not sure now what I was saving them for. At least here, in GW2, I use dyes much more freely.

If I want a specific dye colour I have to first discover it, then select it in the wardrobe, then use a transmutation point to change the colour of an item. This goes back to the point I was trying to make earlier about an over-abundance of useless stats instead of normal gameplay. Why can’t I just go to a merchant and choose the colour dye I want and buy it with gold?

Why are there so many different currencies in GW2?

It’s not an MMORPG it’s something else…. It has elements of an MMORPG.

You don’t have to spend a Transmutation charge to change color. In Guild Wars 2, if you want a dye, you just have to buy it once, and you can use it a billion times forever on everything you wear. In Guild Wars, if you wanted to dye your gear, you had to buy a dye, put it on the gear, buy another dye put it on the next piece of gear.. and when you got a new piece of gear, you had to buy yet another dye, and put it on the piece of gear. Again – Here in GW2, you can infinitely use any dye you’ve bought once. As far as unlocking goes… well, in GW1, you had to buy the dyes before you could apply them. Same thing here. Except now the dyes aren’t lost once you use them.

Actually GW2 was intended to be a sequel to GW. That is what the 2 means. In addition it was described and advertised by Anet as the sequel to GW.

Only really in terms of lore and storyline. Gameplay wise, it was meant to be a sequel to “The MMO” (World of Warcraft, Everquest, and all those clones.), with Guild Wars innovations.

We aren’t going to get any of them but you can only dream, yeah?

That would be cool. As long as it properly fits the ones who make it (And doesn’t forget that most ascalonian citizens have horns and tails)

Since dyes started out character bound and they did a massive rework to make them account wide (and gave out one unidentified dye for each duplicate dye you had across your alts), I wouldn’t worry about that one, dubstax. I had stacks and stacks of unid’d dyes after that change. Ditto on mastery points, they designed them to be a long effort to acquire enough to unlock all the tiers because you only have to do that once on an account. Achieves have been soulbound from day one.

So that’s another thing I adore about the game — it’s sooooo alt friendly. I can make lots of RP alts and get them all decently geared and not have to build them up from scratch to look good. I can also hop onto whichever alt is best suited for the content I’m about to do with a super fast relog.

And on this note – shared guilds. Which is actually a mixed thing. But being able to alt-hop without losing contact with my guilds is so great. And being able to see chat from unrepped guilds. I’m in two social guilds, and it’s nice being able to see which one is active at the moment.

Why is armor design so poor in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

I have a solution for people who don’t enjoy armor in Guild Wars 2, or most armor in any MMORPG. The solution is to play World of Warcraft for 10 days and then quit. After that, you’re going to enjoy every design ANY other game will offer, no matter how bad it actually is. Trust me, this works. I played World of Warcraft for years, went into Guild Wars 2, and every armor design in the game is godsend for me compared to World of Warcraft’s armor design.

Sadly Ive actually played FF14 for over 6 months so I actually have the inverse of the this effect.

what bothers many of us about skimpy outfits is not that they exist, but mainly 2 issues:
-when most of the female outfits or armor is skimpy, you’re taking options away from them, you can only be sexy, and many girls don’t want to only look sexy. So, more options is better.
-males don’t really get many skimpy outfits or armor choices (I’m looking at you, medium armor human male)and some guys also want the option to look sexy and show some skin, so again, more options would be apreciated.

I don’t think anyone wouldbe against sexy armor for females if they had the CHOICE to wear them or not, and if males had comparable options to dress skimpy too.

For a more company like Anet, that has tried t be progressive, this should be a non issue at all.

Guess what game’s got you covered then.

But I do agree. It’s funny that people give Terra so much kitten for it’s skimpy armor and completely gloss over the fact that the skimpy/skintight armor was mostly on the Elves and Castanics which had male versions that were just as outlandish and “kittenty” as the female ones in their own way.

Anet has little in the way of Skimpy male armor with only the Daydreamer’s Finery really presenting a “sexy for the sake of sexy” option for men. Pitfighter and Scallywag sort of fall under this but they both also have a heavy “gladiator” theme to them which means it sort of makes sense that you wouldn’t have full coverage.

My problem with the Daydreamer’s Finery is that it has pants on charr. I wish that it, design-wise, had a lower body covering more like the Masquerade set. Or that the male Masquerade set had an open front like the Daydreamer finery.

I probably would appreciate the skins on other races if it weren’t for all the glowing bits, wings, gaudy backpacks and weapon trails obscuring what might be a decently crafted character.

…bah, who am I kidding? People that pour on that stuff are likely to dye everything Blackest-black anyway :p

Astralaria’s aura is just a copy of Twilight but turned Black&Blue instead of Black&Red. Very dull Axe design without the aura.

I actually love Astralaria, and consider it one of the best-looking axes in the game. The axe itself is elegnatly designed to NOT be some sort of bulky freak of a weapon (Unlike Frostfang or this new shortbow), while still being a high-enough detail model (And detail that actually WORKS and fits together, instead of clashing the way, say, Champawat, does) that does imply care of its appearance – it can be appreciated as a whole at a glance, and in detail on close examination. And then it comes out, everything kicks into action, and MY GOD! IT’S FULL OF STARS!

I was hoping that we could get a legendary skysword of similar design, but with blue sky, sunlight, and hint of rainbow and bright clouds (Not to Dreamer levels of parody, but of “Impressive dayscape” instead of the nebulous starscape of Astralaria.

You’re talking about City of Heroes, and making me sad that it’s gone. I loved everything about that game except encounter and level design (And eventually, the lack of Guild Wars 2’s improvements to the genre). I had tremendous fun as a feline-themed scrapper hero in that game with two swords (One white, one black. Because I was 14 at the time). But then real life got in the way, and by the time the game went free-to-play, I’d developed into a graphics kitten and couldn’t get back into the game’s overly-aged graphics and repetitive level design.

I’m not a competitive person, so I don’t really WvW or PvP, but I imagine it’s possible to sort-of go with a ‘defender’ role in PvP/WvW in group play by going with a bunker+control build (For example, warrior with Mace+Shield/Rifle, or something like that), and using positioning and CC to force enemies to do things they’re rather not – You’re not a big threat on your own, so they’d rather focus on squishier allies. But if they DON’T try to take you out, they have to deal with constantly being hit by CC, (And allies end up boosted with things like Aegis and Protection for Guardian defenders) which doesn’t care about stats all that much. Of course, GW2 is pretty lacking in this regard – but it boils down to enemies having to make the choice between "Hitting this guy who’s really good at taking our hits to stop him from stopping us from killing his allies through CC and boons, or try hitting his squishier, more damaging allies while suffering through blocked, interrupted, and missed attacks, and other impediments.

Can we just go Trinity already?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sartharina.3542

While OP says no trinity is in place I tend to disagree with him… and agree as well…

We have healers, we have had healers for quite some time.

  • Druids (3 flavors, Zerk, Zealot and Magi for PvE, Clerics and minstrels for WvW)
  • Water Elementalist (needs healing so zealot is mandatory, celestial is less often seen)
  • Guardian, mostly forgotten, is still a very decent front line healer, especially with hammer or mace. (clerics/ minstrels) I’d suggest runes of the monk
  • Staff revenant Ventari yes, heals…

True, I just think we may need to bring up some builds to make them alternatives like Healing mantra mesmer and leeching venom thief. I suppose a new specialization could help but sometimes I think it’d just be better to improve what we got.

“We have no tanks, bunkers yes, but no real tanks”.
Difference being you cannot keep yourself alive factanking everything (or can we?)

  • Minstrel guardian would be a pretty good tank….with runes of te trooper
  • All other classes can be converted to bunker

I’m probably in the minority but I just think the tanking builds should just have more nuanced defensive measures kind of like how Daredevil has the extra dodge.

But these builds are no real trinity. Trinities are often more fixed roles and these are more builds then a dedicated role. As such I prefer this system as it allows my character -to be everything- provided the character is flexible enough by just swapping builds. in 2 cases you could be all at the same time…(celestial ele, celestial engineer, and if you would be mad enough celestail guardian and druid as well)

I think context is integral to these types of discussion. For instance, FFXIV has ‘fixed roles’ as you describe as a real trinity, but it also has a system that allows your character to be everything.

I think what you describe as builds in GW2 is the same as roles. The problem though is there are really only 2 differing roles: the dps and the healer. Tanking is done with a combination of dodging, defensive cooldowns and boons but I think they could add to the game’s systems to make tanking more of a gameplay style on its own.

Tanking isn’t “Absorbing Damage” – it’s “Keeping enemies off of allies”. I actually prefer the term “Defender” – especially the way D&D 4th Edition handled the role. As a defender, it’s not your job to ‘take hits’. Everyone has a hit point pool, and yours isn’t big enough. Instead, your job is to stick enemies in lose-lose situation.

I’m glad they added Taunt as a mechanic, without making Dedicated Tank classes. Being able to reliably haul an enemy off of an ally is fun. That fun should be shared throughout a raiding party.

Faren’s loincloth as an outfit.

I like this plan, but suggest that maybe it shouldn’t cost as many gems as outfits usually do as it doesn’t seem it would require terribly much effort to create. The model’s in game already and is just a flap of cloth (there will need to be a female version with chest coverage for humans, norns, and sylvari …. oh I know! Make it worth more gems by giving it cultural differences for each!).

Yes I would want the male version for my female charr. She’s got fur, modesty isn’t a thing when it comes to her flat muscular chest.

UMMM if male gets to be topless I think my female should get to be topless too give us both that version!

Only if we also get dyeable undies. Or all the fem humans in loincloths will have a bright yellow bikini top which will limit some dyeing choices for the outfit, at least for those that like to keep a certain palette. Norns will have a brown chest strap, charr a grey cloth chest sash …

Actually, the charr wouldn’t. There are plenty of outfits/armors that leave the female charr’s chest bare.

@ Sartharina – Worse Idea Imo – I for sure would NOT buy that. If I wanna go undressed, I just take of my characters armour.

But then you lose all your stats, can’t dye it, and if you’re a female charr, you have that stupid, ugly chest strap+ropes. And it looks like dirty linen instead of opulent fur.

True, we already have people running around playing pvp without any armor on, give them a bikini/speedo/loin cloth then they can have the no armor look and still have all the stats and protection they need to survive, you’ll be doing everyone a favor

It can’t be just any loincloth/bikini. That idea got shot down back when Southsun was released. It needs to be Lord Faren’s Maguuma Loincloth. The lore and character link are critical to the sale and appeal of the item.

Guilds are not important in this game, this is not a guild based game, Guild are a grind system were player are tricked to farm for several GH, or a grind to use gimicks on WvW, priceless.

TS/vent and other tools are more important for the game than guilds are.

… did you miss the name of the game or something when you bought this?

Guilds are extremely useful because they’re a persistent group of friends to enjoy the content with. A reason to log on every day (or weekend) and also work as a reliable way to consistently group with people with similar interests as you.

Guild halls and WvW are mostly superfluous, but also serve as a place to hang out with said group, and provides something to communally develop together.

Why is armor design so poor in this game?

I’m VERY confident if I looked hard enough, I could find something even more ridiculous than the bladed armors in FF14.

There are a lot of set ridiculous in FFXIV.

Some examples :

Thess one are more ugly on male : http://d1vr6n66ssr06c.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/PvP_Scholar.png

I can share more but it’s just for show that FFXIV don’t have everything perfect, this game have many many issue with design sometimes like gw2.

And yet, they’re better than GW2’s medium armor selection.

What would you do with a stat pool?

Pyre Fierceshots armours as outfits!

Better idea: Lord Faren’s Maguuma Loincloth as an outfit, so we can be Tarzan.

Give human, sylvaria, and Norn female a matching furry bikini top.

It’ll sell like wild.

This is getting annoying...

I’ve never thought it was about bot control. I always assumed it was about letting the server keep up with EVERYONE’S transactions.

[Suggestion] Changes to Axe and Sword main

in Warrior

I really, really do not like Sword 3 on warrior. It’s a stupidly situational skill, and, with the Sword 2 ALSO being situational, makes sword “2-1-1-1-F1-1-1-1-1” And the burst conflicts with the otherwise good mobility of sword because it’s a root (Something Zerker sword burst fixes).

See, and I like Final Thrust a lot. It may not be so useful in pve, but against other players it hits almost as hard as an eviscerate and it cleaves. The highest damage I’ve had with it against a player is about 12k or so, and then about 25k against an NPC (Tower Lord).

Deff not situational, pretty easy to know when a target is 50% or lower, either flurry or stun them for the guaranteed land, I’ve had it hit for 13k against 2 thieves and killed them both instantly, which was funny because it was after a HB, standing still, and I was about to go down and just threw it out as a hail mary. I’ll never be able to re-create that lol. Just wish the animation was faster.

By ‘situational’, I meant that the mechanical use of it is is almost purely ’Wait for opposing healthbar to reach 50% before using".

Thats one of the problems with mh sword, you really only want to use thrust when an opponent is below 50% for that extra damage, basically leaving you with 2 weak skills to damage them. If you have a power based build that bleed on auto attack is basically useless.

This was pretty much what I was getting at – FT leaves you without a Weapon Skill 3 for more than half the fight. And Sword F1 takes away the mobility that is the sword’s strong point.

I think the focus on warrior should be on mobility and melee fighting, it bothers me to see rifle used so often, as a main weapon, when it used to be just a situational option.

As someone who plays Charr, I like that rifle is finally fun and powerful enough to be a standard weapon instead of a situational one. I currently run Greatsword+Rifle, though leveling I ran sword+shield/rifle. I’d love to be able to do so again, but now Traitline 3 is stolen by Gunflame (Which is too fun and important to NOT have, even if everything in that traitline’s mostly useless, and it puts a hideosly ugly particle effect over my character), so I can’t go Defense, and Disc+Arms take up traits 1+2. And sword is so boring because S2 is valuable as a gap closer, fight initiator, and pursuit, but useless when it melee, and S3 requires the fight to be half-over before it comes into play.

How Do you Feel About Multiple Guilds?

I’m for it. It allows for specialty guilds to exist.

Guilds can only have 500 people in them. By allowing for multiple guilds, a player can choose to join a small guild that only focuses on one aspect of the game. But still be able to join another guild for a different aspect of the game.

A great guild will be able to get and retain the best members no matter how specialized or how general it is. And no matter how many other guilds its members are a part of.

A great guild would deal with those leechers. The one who only asks for help but is never able to give help to other guild members may soon find themselves in a situation where no one in the guild wants to help him anymore. Because he doesn’t help them.

A guild just looking to keep its numbers up because there’s nothing special about it wouldn’t. And that’s why there’s nothing special about it.

You have some Good points, Guilds could manage the issues themselves, but the problem is not guild management its player mentality.

Lets take my guild for example,

We were created on the bases of “Hardcore PvP”. I have asked over 200 people to get on teamspeak when pvping, and none of them do it. I ask them to flag when in guild groups, None of them doing.

So the only think the seem to be using guilds for is LFG system, not actually guild.
I believe fully this will cause hte decline fo the game (i have no doubt about it actually).

Sounds like a problem with guild management to me, not the multiguild system. If they’re not meeting the requirements of the guild, why are they in it?

Without multi-guild, I don’t think specialized guilds like “Hardcore PvP” would be all that effective, especially since guilds are account-wide. Even hardcore PvPers may feel like doing other content that is best with a specialized guild that isn’t yours.

Can we just go Trinity already?

I am still upset that Warrior’s signet actually does heal for more than all the Engineer specific heals combined.

…. the Healing Signet? You mean their passive heal that:
1. Can’t heal groups.
2. Is usually ‘overhealing’ because the warrior is at max health (Can still get downed quickly, though), dramatically reducing its actual healing-per-second.
3. Can’t mitigate damage bursts effectively.

I’d rather change it so that skills that raise downed players also resurrect defeated ones. But that might break WvW.
