Healing Spring Nerf?

Well it isn’t called a nerf exactly because it has different impact in PVP and PVE.

In PVP it’s a buff, cause you can’t stay and wait for all the regeneration it provides, you’d have to stay 15sec in one place, after patch it will be more condensed and you’ll gain that regeneration in shorter amount of time.

In PVE it’s a nerf. With 15sec duration as it is now you gain longest water field (more combos healing you and allies) and condition removal you gain from it is spread in time.

most rangers except that 0.5% are just lazy..

And you don’t understand everyone had his own play style? I main ranger for a year and up till now I wasn’t even trying to use a pet because it didn’t work and I could do much more without using it. Now nerf after nerf I am forced to use it, and guess what. It doesn’t work. I don’t know how much micromanagement is required to controll pet succesfully.

It’s not the case we are lazy. It’s the case where you have to gain enormous amount of skill to use the mechanic which is not working otherwise. It’s not easy to play, hard to master mechanic like in other classes. It’s hard to play, harder to master.

Lack mobility

Their Dmg output is weak.

Mobility? Swords Flashing Blade, GS Leap of Faith and Judge’s Intervention were just enough for me as I played guardian a while ago.

Dmg? It’s not thief but GS is great, also Spirit Weapons give you a fair amount of DPS

Guardians are fine right now.

Ok, how about the pet, regen when traited, condi clear when traited, spirits, traps and just about everything else that rangers use. They are one of the most passive classes in the game which is why they are so popular.

Rangers get evades but unlike other classes, if you miss one because of all the other passive buffs it doesn’t mean instant death like it does for a thief.

So you mean that your saying the problem with stability is that it doesn’t fit well into your build because it means you have to take an ulti or trait for it. Sorry but that’s nearly every class except for guardians and warriors. Ever tried playing a necro before? Talk about lack of stability. I have to laugh at you saying that the need to take a stun breaker or stability hurts your precious builds because that’s true across the board.

Heal and regen are NOT specific to a bunker build and that’s part of the problem. The insane regen on a balanced/hybrid/dps ranger is just wrong.

This was one of the worst arguments I’ve seen someone make. Sorry but you’re just plain wrong my friend. Saying rangers don’t have a lot of passive skills/play is laughable at best.

I agree rangers are passive, but not because we can play more actively. Those are the only builds that actually work, and we are afraid what would happen if conditions were nerfed. Also rangers right now are not so popular. Maybe in PVE but not in PVP. I am pretty sure that the numbers which anet gave us doesn’t cover what percentage of classes are used NOW. All pro rangers are my heroes who learned how to make this class work besides all of it broken mechanics.

Btw as I agree spirits are passive, you can’t call traps passive. They require some play to pull off.

To make traps/spirits work you have to invest 30 points in whole trait lines to make it work at least as good as mechanics of other classes which dont need to be traited.

condi clear when traited? 30 points in nature magic? ye allows great diversity of builds.
Pet? Try to use F2 skill or to make him attack when you want him to. It’s requires a high amount of micromanagement to make it work, and even then it doesn’t always work properly.
Regen when traited? I admit it’s a fine trait as 5sec of regen every 30sec of being under 75% of HP can be.

So sorry about your necro. Maybe cry a little more on my shoulder with your death shroud and fears? As I said, when playing spirit ranger you just can’t take stability/stun breaker, because the build will not work without every single spirit. As for stability, rangers can only do a condition spam right now, RaO is made for Power builds (you get fury besides stability and swiftness) and what condition builds use is Entangle. Sorry but we have to use this as it’s precious condition damage we just need.

If you know builds with insane regen on a viable dps build (as I understand you mean power builds) then pls let me know, because I seriously don’t know any right now.

I agree eles might have more problems right now, but at least you are just nerfed and don’t have broken mechanics. If any of you will have to always depend on dmg made by an broken AI and not your own then we can talk.

There would be if conquest wasn’t the game mode.

That really isn’t the case. Everyone does more dmg based on power than rangers. If you want to be a Power Ranger, you have to sell your soul and everything that lets you run away. Or you have to be really skilled and playing stupid opponent

I can’t tell if you guys are joking or not. The amount of passive abilities with ranger along with evades, healing, regen, toughness etc is just ridiculous. It’s one reason rangers have pretty much always had a spot as back point defender/far point assault. Making one mistake as a ranger is about as forgiving as you can get.

If you’re complaining about not having stability and stun breakers than ooohhh, I dunno, how about actually using one? The fact that rangers as a class have been able to get away with NOT using one for so long should go to show you how tough they are. Sorry but this thread made me /facepalm.

Show me the passive abilities, because as far as I know they either need to be taken all together for them to work, or they require specific conditions.
As for stability/stun breakers. We have them, the only problem is that to make our few limited builds work we just can’t take them. And oh our only stability is from ulti which needs 2min to recharge, this or we buff ourselves 30 in power trait line to make one of our signets give us this stability. But doing that makes us unviable cause power don’t stack so well on ranger.

About evades, yes we have them. But so the other classes. Also we have to remember when to use them and what to counter and we can’t do this forever (don’t bring GS as the only thing it is used for is running), not like evade/invis spamming thiefs.

About heal and regeneration? Again it is a specific bunker build.
Toughness? Stacked because of bunkers and it doesn’t help in the condition spam.

We are playing that way because we are forced to, not because we like it

Not true, at pro level, spirit is only viable build according to pros and even though it’s actually harder to play than warrior or necro, it’s seen as noobish, casual, and OP. if guardian does something really well though, that just means its well balanced. Someone said ranger is most boring and simple profession in game. Not really, it’s one of the hardest to play effectively. Clearly warrior and guardian are the two most boring professions to play in all game modes.

I agree with that. With no stunbreak, stability as spirit ranger you put yourself in tough position. Also pros run this build because of support it provides to the team and they stick together.

Most of the time if you make one little mistake as a ranger, you are doomed.

Ranger has few (I think maybe 3) playable builds and every one of them is based on conditions. I know you can say there are Power builds but in PVP they are not so viable. I run a “tanky” power build and most of thiefs and necros kill me at sight

Oh stop whining ans start thinking… for thief you just dps, they either tp to another place or go invisible, it’s better to just dps them down. As to guardians you just have to stomp them 2 times

This mechanic is not so complicated, also creates fighting chance for two organized friends to fight 3-4 or 5 guys at once

That’s not a problem, after you unlocked certain skin, you cannot put it into locker again

I’d like to read a devs response to my arguments to get a real discussion starting.
In my opinion the devs didn’t think this through so there is still discussions needed.

There won’t be any discussions, because they just don’t want to listem. Problem is that to make ranger’s pet work they would have to give the direct control over the pet to players or to make great amount of mechanics to support pet’s AI. They are not going to do any of this, because they just don’t want to redo the whole system behind this. Right now the only thing they will “TRY” to do is to repair pet’s broken AI. As we are one year after the start of the game and pet’s AI still doesn’t work we just have to pray that they will rebalance our weapons so they’d start making good dmg again.

AEFA i think Bountiful Hunter gives you and your pet just 5% dmg increase if you have a boon, not per each type of boon you have on.

It’s IF you have a boon THEN you get 5% damage boost, way back when where balance was a myth it worked how AEFA thinks it does, but not anymore.

Maybe make the locker not hold the skins, but rather unlock them in the manner similar to achievement skin rewards.

That is exactly how it should work.

Yeah, but it destroys crafting as you could just take from the locker as many weapons of the type and salvage them.

Yeah that part was a little joke, but still I did manage somehow to make it work.

I was also thinking about making an all around build. My idea was to make a build that has power, condition and pet damage as well. I personally would’ve called it Trinity build.

Yeah, you know don’t count pet damage as separate dmg source as it is either power or condition and it is counter as such. The only difference is that it’s not us who are dealing it

Your changes are quite nice, it doesn’t destroy concept of the build and makes it little more viable. I also changed LB to GS and it works even better :P but it might be my personal preference

Yes, but when we put a PVP Item into PVP Locker it looses sigils and runes attached to them, not sure about dyes but probably it works the same

I’m not asking if it can. I am asking If there will be a possibility to stack few weapons/armor pieces. Right now you can only have one per type and it rather sucks when you change build and can’t place (for example as thief) two same pistols back into the locker. I also play PVE and it’s not fun to keep it in the bags all the time

Ok so I came up with this idea, we all know that to make ranger’s utility work as in other classes we have to go 30 in specific trait line. Also remembering as spirits got nerfed (you may think otherwise and you are free to) because they were too easy to play, and no one likes that, and anet discourages that making game easier for some and painful for others.

So about idea. If nothing works without going fully into it (and even then it mostly isn’t that good) I went fully into nothing. Let me show you what I have in mind.

Some may think this is a joke, but I assure you. I am seriously playing THAT. It doesn’t allow you to burst too much, you can’t be sure of crits and condi dmg isn’t that good, you have although decent amount survivablity. Also I put my pets on Avoid Combat mode to be sure there is only max 1-2 sec delay with F2 skill usage.

All that build requires to make it work is SKILL. Sorry, I shouldn’t even call this build. Be free to change it as you like, but remember. The idea is NOT to create a build that puts you closer to any “something” oriented build.

I wonder how ANet would screw up that.

Even if the spirit change was justified in sPvP…. the lack of a split was not.

It’s one more straw on a massive pile of straw that didn’t need to be loaded on this camel

But out of PvP it was a buff… Flat out buff, the CD is shorter and face it, in real fights in WvW they weren’t up 100%, you’d be lucky to keep them up for 50%.

And in PvE they’re still amazing, you just gotta use them a little bit more intelligently instead of just relying on them like an AoE passive signet..

I don’t know about WvW but I know how to put them intelligently in PVE, and this “buff” is actually a nerf for me, because placing them intelligently could give you a 100% uptime. Now I have to wait 25s after full 60s duration to place another one, and even if fight is over I have t wait for them to die AND 25s to place them again. Can’t move banner like a warrior without this 30 points in Nature Magic or even gather them as engineer with his turrets.

Don’t tell me that it is good for new players. Every good game is about skill, we are not playing farmville.

Maybe let’s start playing without spending points in traits and without using utilities? Oh and i’m gonna put my pet on perma Avoid Combat mode, so it won’t die that much.

New Ranger Mechanic Ideas

Dudes, 3 things have to be said

1) ANet does not consider this thread so your ideas will be watched by players but not developers. so it’s not worth the effort

2) Even if ANet would read this thread. WHY should it improve the ranger class according to your ideas. They didn’t improve the pet system why should they implement this ideas?

3) And finally. Your ideas are not the worst i’ve seen but they remind me of warrior and elementalist classes. If you want to bring new ideas up then bring something unique.

1) It’s your own opinion. The same thing was told before WoW’s Lich King when pallies were placing loads of ideas how to improve their class. Sad thing though was that those ideas were used to create Death Knight.

2) They didn’t improve pet system, because they want to improve AI to act intelligent with things they have now, which is bad approach. I worked a little in this topic and I know it’s pretty hard to create something that acts intelligently without creating tons of complicated mechanics to make it work. I don’t say it has to be specifically my idea, as my idea is complicated to begin with, but we just like to share ideas and hear some feedback, not necessarily from developers.

3) I am aware of that, but right now we are trying to come up with something that won’t necessarily change the whole class (as most of us play/played disregarding the pets)

As to pet system. This mechanic is broken from the beginning and if you didn’t see we just had one year anniversary. That means for a full year anet didn’t come up with a way to repair pet system. That ship sunk a loong time ago.

How about something like that.
F are skills that gathers specific kind of spirit (fire,water,earth,air). Each charging in certain conditions and granting special effect

- fire charges when attacking, grant aoe blind on next hit
- water charges when gaining health, aoe heal
- earth charges when getting hit, invulnerability or apply root on the next hit
- air charges when evading dmg, quickness or evades

These aren’t the best ideas for skills granted by each spirits so if you have suggestions, i’d gladly listen

Ranger just spamm rapid fire or sword chain.

Yay I can use rapid fire once every 10s and maybe it gives 10k+ dmg, but first I have to channel it for 4s.
Also about sword. Maybe its chain have a good dmg, maybe not, but one thing for sure is that it glitches so much that sometimes it’s hard to dodge or run away, cause it wants to make this stupid and useless leap

You are forgetting that combos are created to encourage playing together. If you could do everything alone then why play mmo. Also funny thing, give warrior combo field Dark “hey I can apply blind!”, combo field Water “hey another way to heal myself!”, Frost “here comes the chill”.

And you can do a quick dmg burst on me while I can’t and probably will never be able to. Also your burst require less skill to pull of while I have to either play as spirit ranger (which I don’t and probably will never do as far as I can kill even one player with my build) or play some viable build which requires skill to play

I agree with the development team. Some people actually enjoy the simpler professions.

And some people quit those professions because there is no fun in just spamming 1 skill

How would more ranger skills solve this? Maybe they shud nerf the auto attack

You don’t have to worry. It was nerfed enough.

How many would you want? I play ranger and the only combo fields I am sure of are water and fire. Of course I can also have poison and frost, but to gain cf poison I have to use certain pets F2 skill which can fire any moment since the use up to eternity, also with frost i gain it only by a trap, and believe me someone has yet to step into it. Also by having them I don’t feel any better

The point are that your ranger can to do!
Is you choise when and how to make

In warrior’s case, they need imperatively wield LB and have one or more adrenaline bar.

Ok and I have to wield a warhorn to have combo:Blast, and a torch to have combofield:fire, or fire/frost trap and have someone enter it(not my choice really) and as I said a certain pet with combo field:Poison (remember when I told they are unreliable?). Only combo field:Water is given with healing skill, but hey! I have to equip that too.

They don’t lie, when they say it’s on the list, or we are working on it, it’s because they are truly working on it. The “We don’t want to give away to much.” it’s probably just that they don’t have much clue about they will do, so instead of lying they say something to show how concerned they are and that they have some sort of plan.

Too bad there are some things that needed to be repaired from the beginning and still no one has a clue when it will be repaired. If after a year they still don’t know how to repair the ranger’s pet mechanic, then change it to something else.

Just change F1 to allow the pet to attack and recall.
Make it so F2 skills actually worked when requested.
Make F3 the secondary skill for each pet and allow players to set it to auto-cast so if ANet is serious about this somehow being too complicated, players can leave it on auto cast and nothing would change.

i agree f2 skill needs to work when requested.
Allowing players to determine when to cast the 2ndary skill of pets is just asking for ranger buff. And the ability to autocast it sounds pretty OP if you wanna know the truth.

Asking to be able to use our own skills is asking for a buff? Okay then engineer kits should be RNG as well, from now on you cannot choose which 1-5 skill you can use in kits, the game will choose for you. Fair play right.

Engineer isn’t using an AI pet. You’re asking the ability to decide when your pet should deal a secondary damage (with effect), in addition to the f2 skill, while essentially keeping the pet’s ability to deal damage on their own. Not to mention you have two pets to switch between.

Surely you can see this is very different to weapon kit?

You honestly think this is going to create balance issues for rangers? Oh please lol.

Yes, it WOULD be a huge balance issue, we could then get off triple blast finishers, have very on demand CC (all of which is hard CC) be able to bring 2 on demand AoE 3.5k heals, AoE 3s KD, etc etc. it’d be absolutely broken and the pet skills would have to be nerfed TO THE GROUND, and I’d MUCH rather have little control over it rather than have it nerfed…

Oh, so too many blast finishers at once is a bad thing? tell that to elementalist.

First of all, F2 isn’t working properly. It was supposed to make pet use this particular skill instantly when ranger pressed it, I agree there are moments it works like that.
Secondly, how good is having two equally dumb and useless pets?

I just cannot understand how could they release the game, while one of the classes had broken mechanic. Good thing they repaired Lick Wounds on downed state like maybe half a year ago.

The thing I cant understand is that rangers ultimately have two pets which he can use in a fight by swapping between them. Why cant we have both out as the engineer turrets, mesmers illusions or necros summons? What I have in mind.

Give rangers ability to put and remove his two pets from fight as he wishes to, be it one, both or none. This would deal with such a problems as pets getting killed by AOE dmg to which they can do nothing and also make rangers mechanic more tactic oriented as you would summon your pets when you are preparing for burst or pulling them back when near death.

I realise this wouldn’t deal with all the pet oriented problems, but at least would give some control over the pets.

If I am wrong you take a dagger with sword for the cripple, so you can maintain close range? I used a variation of that build (more pet dedicated dps), s/t and a/d and I’m wondering how well that works
