I agree that traits need a bit more flair than flat +%dmg but I don’t want to deal with control conditions reliant on RNG.

I can’t even login anymore. Every time I launch GW2 it crashes immediately now. Sent multiple error logs.

Report the bug in-game. it seems pretty wide-spread so I’m sure Anet will fix it soon enough.

Yes, you can still craft holiday items such as The Crossing in the Mystic Forge. However, you can no longer acquire the ingredients for it (ie – candy corn, nougat, etc).

lulz i spent 0 money…j/k. I spent $10 for an expanded bank tab because mine was getting full from all my halloween junk. The leftover 200gems got my the snazzy hood. That was money well spent. But hearing the constant complaints about horrible RNG for chests ppl bought keys for, I’m glad I didn’t do that.

If Anet mentions more favorable RNG for Wintersday chests, I might. But I’d rather spend money on something I know I’ll get (ie – minis, townclothes, etc) and not leave it in the hands of the RNG gods. If the townclothes take a turn for the better, I can see myself purchasing Wintersday stuff from the gemstore, but prob not keys.

Now that I’ve played a few races through their 1-20 storyline I have to say that I prefer the Sylvari most. Initially it was their look that got me. But for future alts I want to stick with Sylvari because their stories seem more epic and grand. The Nightmare Court is a great villian and one that Anet makes relatable. Human stories are bland by comparison. Asura are very interesting and personal, but not as apic imo. While diabolical, The Inquest doesn’t seem nearly as epic or evil as the Nightmare Court.

update: my human necro was Babies On Spikes. However, after having that name throughout all of GW and for over 30 levels in GW2, I was forced to change it by the moderators.

Here’s the deal: crafting gets you XP but at the cost of gold. Pure & simple.

Always gather. That’s a no-brainer. You get xp and crafting mats. Now, what to do with your mats. Are you more driven by your current cashflow or your leveling speed? If you want money, sell the gathered mats on the TP. If your money level is acceptable, use them to level crafting and gain some nice XP.

Now, if you chose crafting you probably don’t have enough mats to keep leveling without buying them from teh TP. Here’s the tough choice. Do you just lvl your crafts as you get mats on your own or buy them? Again, balance your need for gold for your desire to speed your leveling.

If you’ve really taken to crafting & enjoy it, then the choices are easy. This game is all about having fun and if that’s crafting for you then so be it. Craft away!

Honestly, it’s a nice little accessory that I kept on my toons for quite a while. It’s quality until you’re at least like lvl 20 imo.

@AnthonyOrdon: Honestly, it was just fun for me, but if rewards are the topic here then I’d love to see some townclothes. As it is, we have a very small selection of townclothes and (afaik) all of them are only attainable via the gem store. I’d really like to start finding individual pieces of townclothes rather than having to buy full costumes. There should be a snazzy shirt here or a hot skirt there or some manly britches there. I’m not a fan of buying a chef costume with boxing gloves & aviator shades….that’s not even remotely what a fantasy character would wear in town.

I loved the event. I’m actually sad it’s over because now I log in and don’t know what to do…guess I’ll continue leveling lol. That said…

The Mad King Realm rocked. Loved all parts of it, even if the Clocktower kicked my butt. Wish I coulda done it.

Iron out the bugs for the next event. The Labrynth was my favorite place to play and at times was next to impossible to find a way in (bugged doors).

The Halloween skins were really cool (especially The Crossing!). But they were very hard to attain. I understand RNG and the developers wanting to make some money via the gem store but the prices got a bit ridiculous imo. It was neat to offer cheap temporary skins for those of us without $50 bucks and 50g to blow on bags and mats in hopes of favorable RNG. Legendaries are attainable even by casuals…eventually. But the event is temporary and thus the price of the exotic skins should reflect that.

I loved the artwork and feel of LA. Would like to see more decorating done to other cities in the future, like DR & The Grove, etc. Hoelbrek at Wintersday should be spectacular.

I loved the quests and scavenger hunts and achievements and realms. But at times I was confused about where next to go or how to find certain things without having to wiki it. Thankfully, the GW2 community is fantastic and full of helpful people. I feel like a game should be able to exist solely within itself without the need for googling things or reading the forums. Those should be bonuses, not required. The in-game mail that started coming was helpful though.

Thanks again for an amazing holiday event only 2 months into game launch. I look forward to what’s to come!

I will say that while I don’t think the event should have been extended, I think they should have left the dungeon open till the end of the event. Of course, I know why they didn’t…RP. Wouldn’t have made sense for the Mad King to battle you to the death and then pop into LA to crack jokes. BUT…I think it was necessary only because of the constant door bugs. Anet was smart and left them open for Act IV so others could catch up when the doors were bugged. I never took on the King myself either, but I did run in and see him from afar just for the achievement.

I actually found Ettins to be some of the easiest mobs to drop as a low lvl necro because they’re slow and telegraph their attacks. I ran condtionmancer and just kept chilling/crippling and stacking bleeding & poison on them as I backed away. Toughness doesn’t do crap against conditions. And like SicJake said, we have a high base health pool so you shouldn’t have to stack vit at your level. If you’re running a power build stack power, if you’re running conditions run +cond dmg (obviously). But try to itemize your gear for the way you’re playing. Often I’ll vend an armor upgrade if it’s got the wrong stats even at low levels.

The bags were total rubbish for me. Not a single rare or recipe or anything other than candy corn & food & a few nougats & that sort of thing. I did manage to nab a piece of the Mad King’s armor from the Labrynth chest on the last night. Was really hoping for the Crossing but oh well.

People often forget about all the damage our pets dish out. It’s a double-edged sword at times. We get blinded, our pets still deal dmg. We get confused or crippled or chilled out of range? Our pets still deal dmg. But….our pet dies and our damage suffers greatly. Keeping an eye on our pets and swapping them when they ht 25%hp is imperative. Unfortunately, when they get 2-shotted you just can’t swap and then we’re hosed with no pet damage & no F2 skill.

My vote: increase LB #1 arrow speed and get rid of the increased pet swap CD when pets die.

I’m playing Necro & Ranger and love em both. Ranger was getting too easy in PvE so I rolled a Necro for some challenge. Been quite rewarding.

You need to edit this and add a branch choose-your-own-adventure style for those of us who didn’t complete it.

19. snap your keyboard in half, plug in backup keyboard, resume murdering tiny plastic spiders in the Labrynth in a savage attempt at vengeance.

20. laugh at those who spent 10+ hours running up the tower only to get slippers while I’m still rocking my Emissary title.

I’ve always loved the holiday events Anet does & this one was no different. My only gripes were the door bugs and that phase 3 seemed a little confusing as to what to do next. Otherwise, I had a blast. Got achievements. Got nothing in my ToT bags which sucks, but hey, that’s RNG for ya. I only wish I coulda seen the Mad King emerge on the 28th.

(I did not mention above the Clocktower…that was on purpose…that thing hates me…)

I actually really enjoy all the event places: the Labrynth is fun & getting its chests are super easy. Plus, it’s the perfect place to accomplish most of the achievements for the event: carving pumpkins everywhere, candy corn mining everywhere, halloween monsters everywhere.

Spent a little time in the PvP areas but PvP isn’t really my thing. They were fun though.

Scavenger hunt wasn’t hard but a little annoying. Did give me a fun item without much effort.

Clocktower….let’s not talk about the clocktower.

All in all, I enjoyed the event stuff. I didn’t get frazzled by the RNG of buying/opening bags for epic loot. Just enjoyed myself.

I’ll be honest. I haven’t been able to complete the clock tower and I agree. It’s hard as crap and we only have a limited time to complete it (as opposed to other difficult jumping puzzles that are a permanent fixture in Tyria). And especially because it doesn’t count towards Emissary.

I hope the Party at the end of the event is him returning to Lion’s Arch, apologizing for all of this as a big holiday-themed misunderstanding, and then requiring a game of The Mad King Says as penance for his subjects trying to rise up against him. Bad guy that he is, I can’t help but love the Mad King.

Firstly, I really enjoyed this year’s Halloween event. As for next year…

I think if some things were just slightly better explained that would be helpful. When all the doors suddenly disappeared during phase 3 I was confused about what I was supposed to do next. Thankfully, the community in this game is very helpful.

Also, the bugs. This is even more important during a limited time event.

And that kitten clock tower…..bring it back next year so I might finally conquer it.

I chose the Vigil with my Ranger & Order of Whispers with my Necro. However, I like the Priory weapons the best. I know the armor for each Order is specific to members, and I’m assuming the weapons are too. So…

Is it possible to join multiple Orders or still buy the weapons from another Order than the one I initially joined?

I really like the Krytan Longbow skin.

Guardians are hearty, easy to play imo, and a lot of fun in groups. Don’t think of them as WoW paladins. They can be very supportive and dish out heals & boons around. Their ranged options aren’t that great so plan on being melee 90% of the time here.

Necros have a bad rap right now due to all their bugs. If you’re holding out to be a minion master, hold out a bit longer until they’re fixed. Otherwise, they’re great condition manipulators (giving, spreading, negating) and, if played right, can be very hard to kill.

Can’t speak personally about Mesmers but I hear they are complex, amazing at PvP, and terrible at PvE.

In any case, take whatever you choose at least into the teens before you make a hard decision.

You do realize that some people play this game because it’s fun right? If they like the event content then why wouldn’t they maximize their time in it while it lasts? Boohoo for WvW…it’ll return to the zergfest you know & love in a week. I personally enjoy this content (tower aside). Everyone complained about there being nothing to do at 80. Now you have something new for a short time. Enjoy it! And let the rest of us too.

Unless I’m mistaken, Anet has a different team for every focus. Ie – a bugs team, a new content team, a profession balance team, an art team, a PvP team, etc. So this Nov update might have new content (thanks to that team) but not to the detriment of bug fixes (thanks to that separate team). They aren’t making new content instead of fixing…they’re doing them both simultaneously. Also, these early content patches have probably been in the works since pre-launch. Anet knew it was going to have a Halloween event long before it told us. Bug fixes can’t happen until after launch, because betas can only show so much.

I understand that traits expand on a character’s abilities once they’ve learned them all. But they’re not as dynamic as I’d like. Some are, adding new aspects to existing mechanics. But others like “5% increased LB damage” or “bigger marks” is kinda lackluster and doesn’t make my playing more interesting, just bigger damage numbers. A larger variety of skills however (or more dynamic traits), can constantly change the way a character can play throughout their journey from 1-80. And at 80, it gives us more variety too. That was the beauty of GW. You see a ranger in the distance and you have no idea what he’s going to bring. Conditions, spike, barrage, cripples, touch, elemental, splinter….tons of play styles that made PvP more varied and interesting imo.

You get up-leveled to 80 for most of the content, so your lack of traits & utility skills will be a hinderance in the Labrynth, but shouldn’t keep you from completing anything. There will be a lot of other players to keep you safe.

The Mad Memories could be problematic venturing into higher level zones, but like Angry said, just roll with a group & you’ll be fine.

I like the challenge of jumping puzzles, even if they do frazzle me at times. But a challenge is a good thing. What kills me every time isn’t the inability to see thru Norn & Charr (i have tiny characters). It’s the time limit. Or more specifically, the fast-flowing ooze that always catches me. If we could highlight ourselves it might make things easier, but alas, that’s not a function of the game.

Stick to the corners & the center. There are a lot of events that pop up. Also, swap toons. You get up leveled to 80 so bring your lvl 30 alt and have some fun. You’ll get gear and XP a plenty.

I love the Mad King realm. If they added a vendor inside I wouldn’t leave until the event ended. Especially because it’s so hard to get back in. I hope they extend the event a little. Cuz as much as my head hurts from that dang clocktower, I really wanna do it.

Kralkatorik will the last one to come out. Seems he’s the super big bad that makes the others look feeble in comparrison. I mean, Glint’s afraid of him.

I’m thinking Jormag will be next.

I love my necro. Just fix bugs and make DS more interesting/useful. That is all.

imo, if you’re going to sell it, wait until after the event. By then nobody will be able to get new mats and i think the price will go up.

Cripes man. God forbid someone accomplishes something they’re proud of. Solo a brand new 80 champion with no elite, 2 utilities, and almost no trait points? Yea, I’m impressed. Is it the coolest thing ever? No. But still, give the man his dues. He committed 2hrs to this endeavour, rather than zerging the MK with a party of true 80’s. Slower but he probably feels prouder than they do.

I personally find swinging the scepter for bleeds very dull and boring and seem to switch off more and die to bad concentration.
When playing dagger/power Im in the fight engaged and know im going to take a load of damage so I mentally prepare for it.

If all you’re doing is swinging your scepter #1 you’re doing it very wrong. I play Scepter/Dagger + Staff and I am constantly swapping my weps, using all of my skills, including my utilities. It’s very engaging imo.

As long as you don’t mind kiting a lot, hardmode necro can be done. We have access to a lot of chills & cripples using just weapons: Scepter, OH Dagger, Horn, Staff…

Ugh, thats a lot of candy. Don’t think I’ll eat em tho, I’d rather save em for crafting the new weapons.

It’s random. In large groups I’ve been at doors that lasted 3-4min and everyone was able to open the door twice yielding quite a few ToT bags, and I’ve been to doors (with the same group) that have lasted long enough for 1 or 2 people to open them. How long the doors stay are impossible to predict or influence.

^this exactly. I rolled with a group of 4-5 and we each got a turn opening the door, sometimes spawning as many as 4 bags for me to pick up. I think that if you’re actually in a party with people their opening can potentially yield drops for all party members. And I’ve gotten to open a single door 2x in 1 go maybe 4-5 times.

I just wish I didn’t have to run around holding down CTRL with my pinky the whole time I’m playing lol

I’ve found quite a number out in the world. They’re generally in & around outposts or those little NPC manned farms and such. But it’s definitely easier finding them in LA as opposed to a big world zone.

What exactly is with the jumping puzzle around teh cauldron? Am I supposed to just jump in? Is that it?

yea, the haunted kills are most definitely the hardest of the achievements to max. I finished the scavenger hunt, the ToT bags, and i’m 1/2 way thru the carvings (finishing that tonight).

30 in each area ?! wow…i thought there were like 10-15 tops. I’ll keep hunting!

I can’t argue with badness of events scheduled over the Super Bowl. Honestly, in the US it is kitten close to a holiday.

As for regular Sunday football…well, as much as I like to watch football, not everyone does. I can’t expect the world to hold on while I watch the Eagles game.

Also, how do you get 80 p.tots a day? o.O I know they removed most suspicious locations in LA but you can still get the one from the jumping a day * 5 so that’s 25 bags alone. where do you get the others?

Another question, does anyone know if arachnophobia shoots out spiders with webbing? or, it just looks that, and shoots no particle effects or etc? I know you’d tell me to go to youtube, but I’m in China and youtube is blocked. Would def appreciate any replies :P
