I know it wasn’t on your list but…necro. They’re fun to play, challenging but not masochistic like eles, have multiple play styles, and are viable 1v1 and in WvW. Ranger are great, but most players aren’t currently happy with the state of them (no build variety, SB nerf, etc). I’d say play the style that you enjoy the most because things will always change in an MMORPG.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I don’t think this would benefit GW2 really. Gear at 80 is primarily cosmetic.
Anet has recently said that they were initially going to come out with some sort of official app but it’s been delayed because now they have a much more impressive goal for the app or whatever they’re going to release. So…wait for something cool.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m wearing the lvl 10 crafted light armor and transmuting it. I like it better than most drops.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Probably because “sylvan” is a real word meaning “of the forest.” It’s my favorite word, though I liked it better when people just didn’t know what it meant, rather than thinking straight away of the Sylvari. Oh well, I can’t begrudge ANet for naming my favorite race after my favorite word.
you have a favorite word? i’m not being mean but…really? Do I? I don’t think……
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Honestly, necros seem able to do quite a variety of things right. I’ve just started one (20) and I gotta say it’s rather rewarding to fend off multiple waves with cripples, chills, conditions, etc. I’ve heard that minions need some love, and I’ll agree. But necros are kinda awesome. I can’t wait until I unlock more utilities, elites, and traits.
It’s kind of a breath of fresh (necrotic) air from my Ranger.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If racials are there for flavor, then Dwayna should have flavor. It’s a basic self-heal. Pretty flavorless imo.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
My Necro is named for her twisted ancestor of 250yrs ago….Babies On Spikes. I said she was twisted.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I saved Quinn. Seraph took care of the well. Some poison got in but nothing lethal. All’s well that ends well.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I actually use Prayer to Lyssa as a low lvl necro. It’s got a very low CD and works nicely with a conditions build. Plus, getting things like protection, regen, or swiftness never hurt a caster.
Dwayna is pitiful. Kormir might be good for Rangers or professions with limited condition management.
Haven’t tried Grenth yet so I don’t know.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Male Norn look funny with a tiny little bag on their massive backs.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I don’t care what other content Anet includes (well…I do). But I want to go back to UW & FOW. And Tombs…
These places were epic in Prophecies and could be epic again! With 250yrs of lying dormant after we (the players) steamrolled through them and killed everything we saw, what has become of them? I must know!!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
An adament NO to open world PvP. But…
I would LOVE to see FOW and UW now, 250yrs later. Did UW become more twisted than ever in all those years? Has the Forge been opened by a dark force, using it to craft the one ring…er i mean a powerful friggin’ axe? Have the Tombs of Primeval Kings been cleaned out and reopened as an exotic underground palace for a corrupted queen?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Thanks for the link! I’m so excited for the future of this game!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
31 and loving it.
I think patience comes with age, and I don’t mind enjoying the crap out of what Anet has given us until they patch it, fix bugs, release new content, and all the other things that are being complained about.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I use the POIs and vistas and skill challenges as guides for my exploration. I want skill points and the hearts are fun so why shouldn’t I explore them? And as I’m exploring the world, hunting down areas i’ve never been…shouldn’t I stumble upon DEs? I hope so, cuz they’re my favorite part. But unless I roam around with 4-5 others at all times, I have to rely on random chance for DEs to start.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I like the storyline quests, but they don’t feel very immersive when I have to break them up every 3 levels or so. What I do is skip my story completely for about 10 levels and then do a few in a row. I don’t want to be too far ahead because the item rewards are generally useful, but I like doing a couple in a row for immersion’s sake.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
@Magix: That’s a good thought. I wasn’t sure if the heal from CC was worth it without conditions compared to WoB as a combo field. But the CD is much shorter on CC and I’ll soon be using skills like BiP so it’ll be clutch when Dagger OH is on CD.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Only weps an Eng can equip on land are pistols, rifles, & shields. As a point of reference, hit H to open your hero panel, and click on the icon on the left to look at your weapon skills. That will show you the breakdown of which weapons you can use and where.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I call mine “Fugly”
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Putrid Mark (staff #4) is a blast finisher. Works nicely with Well of Blood.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Ahh…that makes sense about vulnerability and conditions. I have been gearing (lol at 16) for conditions so more bleeding is a good idea.
Recommend any utilities? Right now I’m using WoB, the ranged minion (for tanking) and Prayer to Lyssa (short CD condition spam).
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m a new necro and I’ve been using Scepter/Focus & Staff. But I see everyone on the forums talking about using Dagger offhand. Why is it better than Focus? Focus gives me a 2nd kite and another damage/condition skill.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Didn’t you know? You have to look at the mini-map and search for the light green dots and count them and make sure all of your minions are there.
:P
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I noticed this too. Really thought #4 would refill my bar a bit…nope.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I just rolled a Necro over the weekend and found the same thing to be true of the Blood Fiend as the OP. He held aggro, I didn’t need heals, he died, I need heals, he’s on CD.
I now use WoB and am much happier. While staying immobile isn’t ideal, the well is big enough that I can still dodge and stay in it. Unfortunately, if I don’t have a minion out, I’m getting pounded on in a group of mobs.
Consume Conditions really isn’t useful for me yet because at 16 nothing is really spreading conditions.

Request: Make Asura Weapons Bigger (Especially Daggers and Pistols)
in Suggestions
Posted by: Seras.5702
Yea, i like the Asura in general and their racial skills are pretty great imo. But they’re tiny size makes armor hunting/dying less than enjoyable & weapons are so small. My dainty female Sylvari carries are huge greatsword… so should my Asura.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Keep me posted cuz this could be a nice minion bomb idea. Amass an army and detonate them all at once, creating a poisonous battlefield and entering Lich at the same time.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
So something like Avatar of Melandru will kill all my minions? If traited, will they all pop the poison nova too? What about Lich Form?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Um, AI aside, we couldn’t control our minions in GW either could we? I mean, it’s been a few yrs since I played it but they were just degenerating meat shields.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
So I just rolled a necro and I of course have that ugly floating healing minion following me. When I come out of DS he’s gone. Did he get killed or do minions die automatically when DS is used? Do they die from all forms (Lich, racials?)
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Now that you mention it, I haven’t either. Cool.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
In GW, once you hit 20, you could just skip everything between you and the fun “end-game” stuff. TOA runs, Droks runs, and runs to the Crystal Desert existed because people hit 20 so fast and they wanted immediate access to things like FOW, Ring of Fire, and armor. Progression keeps everyone from rushing to the end before their time. And, it gives you a better sense of immersion in the story. Remember, you’re building a hero & a legacy from scratch. Most don’t simply leap into a dragon’s den on day 2.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Why just asuras?
Also, I did like that /dance was based on profession (seeing as they didn’t have diff playable races) in GW1.
profession & gender. male necros threw up the horns & headbanged while female necros did thriller.
Now it’s by race, but I think they should split the gender too. But that’s just me and my everloving need for variety.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Let us know what server you’re on.
Also, go to Lion’s Arch and look for a guild that has active players for leveling together.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
While a lot of that seems like common sense, I’ve learned long ago that there’s nothing common about sense. Well said Noun. Good advice.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Main is a Ranger and I love it.
Also like Guardian & I’ve just started an Eng which seems complex but fun
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The reason the prices of those weapons has gone up is probablt because more people are closer to gathering all of the pieces for their legendaries by now and thus there is more demand. It’s just a guess, but I figure that as time goes on, more people will be crafting legendaries so the need for those ingredients will be more in demand and thus more expensive.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Oh I agree that the Ranger Harpoon Gun is the second best underwater weapon to the Mesmer Trident.
Personally, I’d like to see the Long Bow redesigned with the harpoon gun in mind. Instead of Long Range Shot, which does more damage the further it goes — making the LB situational and useless in dungeons and sPvP maps, it should work like the HG Splinter Shot (maybe rename it glass arrow after a similar skill in GW1) which would do consistent damage to the target, but add AoE damage to adjacent foes the further it is shot. Barrage should change from area targeting to around a target targeting like HG Feeding Frenzy.
Those two changes alone would make LB a much more versatile weapon, and a good alternative to SB.
Dude, if my LB had the functionality of my Harpoon Gun I’d be so happy. I love having an aoe dot field, a kill shot, and splinter shot. I just hate the physics of fighting underwater, but I love my harpoon gun.
And my shark. He’s a beast.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I still love my Ranger. Can’t put her down.
I rolled an Engineer alt…a Guardian…a Thief….they’re fun I guess but nothing is as enjoyable as my Ranger.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Necro = temporary pets (meat shields), conditions, dots, ramp up to full dmg, death shroud (2nd hp bar & lackluster mechanic), less prevelant, light armor
Ranger = perma pets, lots of variety/utility with pets, range & melee viable, med armor, deals good damage w/ good survivability
I play Ranger & i love it. I tried necro for like a minute & just couldn’t get into it. That said, every profession has their complaints (except warrior it seems) so each will be fine-tuned over time. GL
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Just thought of this: Does the jaguar’s speed drop when he stealths?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Plus stealth is generally an aggro drop. So if your jaguar is getting pounded on, pop it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Every fight is just a DPS race, until you get overwhelmed and you just die, rez go back and try to finish the rest of the fight with a few more deaths.
There’s your problem. If you’re playing just to max your dps, you will fail as a group. Glass cannons don’t work in this game. You need to be hearty, smart, and supportive. Don’t look out for only yourself. Pop boons whenever you can, heal whenever you can. There is no dps meter for a reason: if all u do is focus on dps you aren’t helping the group. Nobody cares if you do great damage but the party fails. It’s better for the group to succeed so work together as a group.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
See we don’t need dire or elder pets anymore…cuz we have 40 different animals that have their own unique stats & abilities. In GW, the only difference between most pets was whether they were elder or dire or playful….now we have blue moa, pink moa, raven, eagle, jaguar, fern hound, brown bear, black bear, polar bear, cave spider, jungle spider…….need I go on? yes, it was neat to tame a lvl 4 wolf and raise it to be your own. Only now if you tame a lvl 4 spider, it instantly becomes your level and always will be. Maybe it breaks immersion, but I like the variety we get now.

Guildwars 2 is in danger if arenanet doesn't act on their endgame while they still can

You have to let go of your classic view of MMORPG endgame. The point of GW2 endgame isn’t to grind for incredible gear as it is in most other games. It’s to enjoy the play. In GW1 we had max armor at lvl 20 and ran FOW and UW and Tombs because they were fun, for the challenge of clearing them and for some occassional cool loot skins. Yes, the forge was in FOW and ectos dropped in UW…but that wasn’t the only reason to go there. If you want to grind, aim for legendaries.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Honestly, it doesn’t matter what kind of damage it does. It could deal ethereal necrotic ectoplasmic rage fire….there are no damage types in GW2. You can’t boost defense against magic or dark or physical damage. Getting hit with an Engineer’s bullet is the same as an Elementalist’s lightening.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Anet does a nice job of gradually unlocking things like utility slots & skills & elites over the first 30 levels. Wouldn’t change that.
But weapon skills are all unlocked by the time you hit 10 (I’m thinking of ele’s here with so many attunements). This means we get nothing new from weapons from 10-80, so I def agree with the OP. Something added around 40-50 would be nice. Like you, I want to stay away from talent trees or trinity systems too. But I think a specialization would be cool. Something you can change for a fee perhaps (like re-traiting) that unlocks new skills for particular weapons. Maybe Rangers get bow or melee specialization, Warriors get 1h or 2h spec, Engineers get kit or turret spec, etc. This would let us explore new ways to play each profession, giving us variety in PvE & unpredictability in PvP.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Ok, you only have 3 weapon sets because of kits. Yes, you’re sick of hearing it, but that’s the reason exactly. If you think your kits are useless then that’s where the focus needs to be: on reworking the kits. That’s the essence of Engineer. Ele don’t have many weapon sets & can’t swap…but they have 4 attunements. If Eng equip 3 kits they have 4 whole sets of 1-5 skills. If you want a weapon-using profession, go warrior.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
As a Ranger, I gotta say: I need my #6 heal skill. Rangers don’t heal as they attack, they evade and let their pet tank. I need my Healing Spring for when things don’t go as planned.
