Thanks guys. I was hoping to find a better way but I guess I’ll just have to keep checking the WvW map for when we control Umberglade.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I have just about all the pets, but I really want the wolf. According to the wiki, it’s only in the Eternal Battlegrounds. Is this right? I don’t WvW and the one time I went in to search the area was contested and amidst a mighty battle (obviosuly).
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Got no complaints here. True, we only have a few pet families, but we have a great variety of actual pets. The F2 ability is really what sets them apart. Not all Moas are created equal. One chills, one gives the party fury, one…you get the idea. Learn to use them all and you’ll realize they each have a niche.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
What happened? Combo fields rendered many of them obsolete, especially with anything related to fire.
This^
And yet, Rangers can’t drop very many combo fields at all. We’ve got what? Flame Trap (on top of us or minimum range if traited), Healing Spring (it’s a heal skill, not a damage-augment, and it’s on top of us), and Torch #5 skill (not bad actually, but again, right on top of us). Rangers can’t place any combo fields at range so we rely on those of other players to help us out. Course, if we’re solo….
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Actually, no. You can change pets in either of the top 2 boxes at any time as long as 1) you’re not in combat and 2) you’re pet swap is not on CD. You can still hit the dropdown icon to view all available pets, but can’t make the change until the swap comes off CD. You can only change your bottom 2 pet boxes when in water.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I would love to use a Pig or something in combat but I don’t think searching out special weapons is going to aide me too much in combat.
Actually, you’d be surprised. Each of the 4 porcine pets have different items they Forage. They’re quite useful. Pigs dig up really nice healing items (including invulnerability), which could be great for a full-support build. Warthogs dig up nice condition-giving combo field initiators. Boars can give you fear/stun/knockdown items. Siamoth net stealth and boon items. These could come in quite handy with melee and support builds.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It wasn’t “on swap” skills, it’s the pet F2 skills that were being abused. For instance: pop Red Moa’s Fury, swap to Jungle Stalker, pop Extreme Might – attack.
But I would love a pet info screen without having to swap & equip every 20 secs. Very annoying.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Firing an arrow thru our Healing Spring will give regeneration to whoever is close to the target. This means you if you’ve got a target meleeing you.
Also, the porcine family of pets have a lung attack that is considered a leap, so that works nicely in a combo field. I use them when I go straight melee (Greatsword – Sword/Torch) because it’s easy to use their foraged item and they combo from my Torch #5 and Healing Spring fields.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Shouldn’t have to augment the default mechanics of the #1 skill for 1 weapon for 1 class…it shouldn’t root you. Plain and simple. Turning off auto-attack is a stop-gap for now. The animation is great, but if I hit dodge or my leap out skill, I want to leap…now. I use sword/torch a lot and I like being able to drop #5 fire ring, leap out, & leap back in for the fire aura. It owns groups. If i can get the leap to work when I want it too.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Let me start off by saying the Ranger is my absolute favorite profession in this game.
Pets are not hard to micromanage, in fact they’re pretty self-sufficient (some even self-heal). They have 2-3 useful skills that they use independent of your control + 1 great skill that is player controlled.
You can still use bows even at melee range. But if you mean with swords, yes, they’re quite a bit of fun. With a pet sharing the damage burden, you’re not as squishy as you’d think for a med armor wearer. Also, Ranger melee incorporates a lot of evades, so you shouldn’t be getting hit much.
Having said that…
When you try each profession out, in addition to whatever you did, take them into the Heart of the Mists (pvp staging area). it automatically scales you to 80 and unlocks all of your skills. There, you can get a better idea of what each class will ultimately bring to the table. I hated Engineer when I 1st rolled one, but I brought her to the HotM & realized there’s a lot of potential once it’s unlocked.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Close, but here’s what you do: rock the Axe/Horn & Shortbow.
Start w/ a poison spread, birds, horn call – then swap to shortbow + quickening zephyr and let ‘er rip. When you lose your buffs, F2 your jungle stalker’s extreme might, pet swap for 2s of quickness and keep rocking that shortbow. Mad damage, mad stacks of bleed, mad fast.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yea I don’t even know what to do with all my BL Chests. I can sell em on the TP for 1c a piece, which just goes to show that everyone has a stockpile of them and nobody is buying keys. The townclothes stuff in the BLTC store is ridiculous. I’d much rather some awesome race-themed outfits. Bank slots, bag slots, and character slots are the only thing worth buying in the gem store. Otherwise, the gem to silver ratio is just too harsh. I’d love to have some dye kits or chest keys but they’re too pricey.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
At very low levels (read: 1-15) players don’t have many utility skills unlocked and only 1-2 slots to put them in. Yes, as a downleveled player you have 3 utilities and an elite. So you will be more OP than your buddy cuz you have a greater range of skills and you have traited abilities. Even if you only use your 1-5 skills, you’ll probably be throwing out extra burns or something thanks to your traits. So yes, helping a 1-15 friend will be a bit awkward.
But when your friend breaks into the next zone, has a few points in traits, and a couple utilities, you’ll be on even ground again (mostly). In the meantime, instead of aggroing 1, aggro 5 and have fun saving your friend’s butt. He’ll have some fun being challenged and you can keep him alive.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yea man, accept the free money, report em, move on. I’m hoping for 15 spam messages if they include money.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ve thought about this too and, after getting 100% completion on a few maps with my main, realized I should just play through until I’m high enough for the next zone and move on (aside from the skill challenges…need those). I’m an alt-oholic and I know I’ll be playing through this game a few more times with other characters so I don’t want to do it all right now. I scoured the Shiverpeaks with my Ranger for pets, but I didn’t explore too much…want it to be a surprise for my next character. I’ll get 100% map completion eventually though. Just not quite yet.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Gold sinks are present in all MMORPGs, even ones with monthly fees. They have to be. Whenever a corpse is looted or a reward is received, money is generated out of this air. That money has to get dumped back into the game (not other players) somehow or the market would become overly flush with money and nothing would hold any value. Fixed price vendor items (like salvage kits & training manuals) would be trivial to purchase. And the P2P market would be ridiculous (ie – black dye for 200g instead of 4g).
That being said…Waypoint fees are too pricey. Without mounts (which I do not want) travel is relegated to walking or waypointing. And in a game where playing together for DEs (the primary quest-type of the game), getting to those DEs shouldn’t be so expensive.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Can anyone tell me why “Mukittennction” has the word “kitten” butted into it? Is “mukittennction” some bad slang phrase I do not know about? musstt funnctionn. I’ll change the format… Apparently Anet does not like the word function. LOLOLOL go fiqure. functtiionnnnnn
Apparently you can’t have “ST”, then a space, then “FU” without a “kitten” showing up. Seen it before. You’d think the fact that there’s a space in it and other letters attached would override the programming. Weird.
As for the skill re-working: I’m all for more skill options per weapon. I had thought about each weapon having a pool of skills to choose from (2h have a pool of 8-10, 1h have 5-6, oh have 4ish). The idea of each weapon slot having options keeps it more structured and gives Anet some control over keeping certain weapons OP.
I’m not sure I’m reading it right but it seems like you want to make skills clearly defined as support, damage, and survival. AFAIK, Anet wants all characters to be able to do all of those things at the same time. Sure you can spec for more damage or more survivability, but they don’t want someone to rock all support skills and deal meager damage and be vulnerable. I wouldn’t want to change the gameplay mechanics too much, especially at this early stage of the game. Rather than redesigning the combat roles and fight mechanics, I would start with new skill options for weapons. I love that idea. I like what you said about maintaining the weapon’s general role so that every hammer wielder is basically a slow, hard-hitting, knockdown machine (as they are now). Just with variety.

I don’t mind the longbow’s speed; it’s designed as a slow hard hitting sniper weapon. But the range-to-damage ratio needs to be adjusted to be a little more forgiving. Staying on the back line to attack is fine, but nobody just stands still and doesn’t close the gap. Also, slightly harder hitting wouldn’t be bad, but if they changed the distance:damage ratio i’d be happy.
I would like to see skill #4 changed tho to a combo-field generator or something. We have plenty of evasion skills and the longbow is too slow to use #4 as a reliable interupt. Give us some fun stuff for longbow like the thief’s shortbow.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
A) buff Greatsword’s Maul ability for more damage
B) improve Sword’s mobility issues
C) celebrate
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I have no second thoughts about playing this game. It’s beautiful, engaging, and unique. As an altoholic, I have 6 toons and no 80s and having a blast. Why do you think I’m on the forums mid-day? Cuz I’m at work and miss playing.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Mounts would result in fewer people stopping for DEs, stopping to help res someone, stopping to help slay that pesky veteran, stopping to play the game. Anet has designed a game that encourages player-player interaction. Mounts would reduce the amount of interaction that occurs. Instead, we have multiple waypoints per map zone. I know there’s a fee (that issue in another thread), but we have ways of zipping thru zones quickly. Not to mention I feel that I can cover quite a bit of ground on foot rather quickly. And everyone has a decent Swiftness boost skill.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
“True. Now if only they didn’t look like hunchbacks, I’d roll one.”
They’re hunched over by choice. Hunching over makes you a smaller target, and a little harder to hit. Plus it makes it quicker to drop to all fours to run.
Charr don’t shrink away from their enemy. They don’t view themselves as “targets.” They are big, intimidating, loud, and brutal. I’d expect them to stand at full height to assert themselves. But scoliosis being what it is…I guess they can’t
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
True. Now if only they didn’t look like hunchbacks, I’d roll one.

If you use a Hammer, you can launch bears.
bahahaha….love the hammer launch but never heard it described that way. now i love it more!!

Guardians have more damage mitigation and health regen than warriors by far. This is effectively increasing their health pool. Each extra blocked attack or hp of regen is something the warrior would suffer from. I know they’re not the same, but professions aren’t supposed to be the same. Not to mention, the damage mitigation and healing the guardian can offer his/her whole team.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Does this apply to the temporary packs that appear when you equip a kit too?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Ok, so I made an Engineer, took her to HotM, and played around with plethora of abilities, kits, elixirs, and F-skills. Holy crow that’s a lot of abilities. Totally understand why they only have 2 weapon options. I had a blast (pun intended) wrecking training golems with a near-endless supply of things that go clank & boom. But I have 2 questions:
1) Are the plethora of weapon kits and F-skills overwhelming or do they become 2nd nature just like the weapon/utility skills of a more “normal” class?
2) It’s sure fun, but is it viable to quest/level and PvP and dungeon? Some kits seem very gimicky and 1-note (like mines…will I even use em?)
Thanks.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Sylvari has a nice root racial that you can use instead of the (admitedly stronger) elite that Rangers get. Plus, as a ranged class, the racial elite that roots you isn’t so bad because you get invulnerability and pop some pretty turrets.
Asura get an aoe combo field skill that Rangers could always use more of. And a pretty nice support skill that would really jive with a full support build imo.
Humans get condition removal. Rangers aren’t the best at condition removal (aside from brown bear F2 skill) so if you don’t want that pet out human racial is helpful.
Charr gets you a warband (pair that with hyena x2 and you’ve got an army). You also get a bazooka….yea, a bazooka to add to your ranged repertoire (or however that’s spelled).
Norn….not really good racial skills for Rangers but you do get that “honor the animals” vibe with ‘em. Course, Sylvari are made of nature so that’s a nice RP plus.

Make switching equipment/attunement not attack the nearestkittenenemy
in Suggestions
Posted by: Seras.5702
Keep in mind that when you change attunements, a small spell casts. If you change to fire, a small fire nova goes off, which might catch an innocent Moa in its wake. If that happens, you’ll start attacking it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
With respect to Attunements, every time you swap a (weak) spell casts. With weapon swapping, I understand the need since swaps often trigger traits. Without a swap CD, I’d never know (without counting in my head) when the trait’s internal CD was ready. I’d just keep swapping until something happened. Not efficient.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ve been thinking this for a while now. No matter where you look when you pull up the world map, it always tell you your progress for the current zone you’re in. Which is great. But it’d be nice to know my progress in other zones too so I know my next stop for world exploration completion. After a while, you forget which you’ve finished and which you haven’t. I’m thinking, zoom out fully and a name box appears over each zone that you’ve discovered and when you hover over it, displays your current progress.
Also, a legend would be useful. When I first started playing GW2 I had no idea what the map icons meant. Give the option to display/hide the legend for veteran players.
And apparently the level of detail displayed (with regard to icons) varies depending on if you’re in the zone or not. Look at your zone? shows trading posts, manual sellers, banks, merchants, repairs, crafting tables, etc…Look at another zone? no trading posts, no manual sellers, no crafters, no banks…Tough to find the nearest bank or LW station when in the field when that doesn’t display. Instead I’m forced to just map to the nearest major city because I know there’s one there.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m with Daysy. Waypoints are so plentiful that they can’t all be safe zones. I used to assume that when I first started playing but realized quickly that they’re generally located nearby something of substance, making them useful transport devices but they’re not “base.”
Asura Gates definitely need map labels.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
lol, I had to click on this thread. Its title is just so desperate.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Richter’s statement is valid, but clearly Anet is looking out for us with the ability to dump mats into our bank from the field to avoid bag clutter. This would just be an extension of the love the developers have for us.
I’d love to see a 3rd bank tab for items that we get from daily achievements and chests and such. Mystic coins, transmute stones, boosters, dungeon tokens…Don’t even need the “send to bank” option necessarily. I just want another tab to store the stuff that I get inundated with (like Black Lion Chests) without having to sacrifice precious bank space. And it is precious, since the only way to expand it is with gems (yes, I know you can trade gold for them).
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Does “Powerful Banners” only deal the damage when summoned or every time you pick it up & rejam it into the ground? Cuz that might be an interesting mechanic to work off of. Give it an internal CD to avoid spamming exploit, but have an effect each time the banner is planted, rather than summoned. This way, you can summon the banner and move it around as the fight progresses or still use it when questing, moving from one fight to the next. Maybe a small aoe field that grants a condition for a couple ticks or something like “Cracked Ground: cripples nearby foes when jamming the banner into the earth.”
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I understand the “gold sink” aspect of games. With generated currency you need a place to dump it so the market doesn’t get flooded. Understandable. I’m not asking for waypoint fees to go away. I’d like to see the costs reduced tho in some way. At low levels, no big deal. Your whole world only spans 1-2 maps and you’re slowly learning the profession/game so most of your travel is by foot. But by higher levels (and I’m talking like 30-40) it starts getting cost prohibitive to explore too much not on foot. My Sylvari Ranger storyline constantly had me porting back to the Grove after encounters 2-3 maps away. Now my storyline has me clear on the other side of the world, forcing me to map to the nearest city, then Asura Gate hop back to the closest city to my destination, just to avoid spending silver I don’t have. Especially since I just hit 40 and dropped 1/2 my total money on a manual.
Sorry for the rant…
Not to bring up this game here, I generally hate the comparisons but…I played WoW and flight costs compared to the general economy was relatively low. Now, yes, you paid a time fee because travel was real time so it sometimes took 7-10 mins of watching your toon fly. I’m just saying is all….
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I have a feeling we’ll see some great things in future content patches. In my MMORPG experience, no developer patches games with cool stuff like Anet. They always impressed me in GW1 with how they listened to the players and made good changes. Not just skill nerfs and bug fixes and the like. But actual UI & gameplay changes that improved overall play experience.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Combo fields are great. As a Ranger I’m constantly repositioning myself to fire thru them during DEs. I use Healing Spring too because it’s a combo field. I use sword/torch because I like the fire aura I get with leaping into fire fields (boar pets leap too).
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Having read through quite a lot of the forums, I can say your poll has spotlighted the most commonly complained about problems with many of the professions. Warriors are happy (and numerous), necros are not, rangers are great but want more, guardians need range…yea i hear those a lot. Kudos to you for your poll.
Love to have Anet chime in with their thoughts on the poll’s results and if they’ve come to the same conclusions or what.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
“more Violets, less violence”
I love the sylvari theme but I swear I hear the same lines from them all the time.
This one annoys the crap outa me. It’s cute but if I’m standing at my bank in the Grove for too long I start to bleed from the ears from its overuse.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
rolled a sexy female norn ele….hated the voiceover at the first cutscene…deleted her immediately
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Seems like everyone has a different opinion. Why do you prefer human or norn or charr? Any have racial abilities that synergize well with Guardian?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m going to roll a Guardian and want to know what everyone thinks the best race is for that profession based on:
1) racial skills
2) look (attack animations, in armor, etc)
3) feel (storyline, makes sense, etc)
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The Virtues are really nice when passive. Used actively without traits, they’re situational at best. Giant boss spike incoming? Pop your aegis….ok, that’s it. But trait them and you bring a lot more support to your allies.
My problem isn’t that they aren’t good (cuz they are). Just that they’re not fun to use, considering most of the time (even when traited) you’ll leave them passive. I’d rather a profession-defining mechanic to be more interactive. In other words, give us some incentive to popping them.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Increase scepter range
Make the #1 skill fly a bit faster
Make it less easily dodgeable
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Quickening Zephyr is incredible. Other than that….hmm…….Yea, the utilities need some creative love.
Traps are great, but need to create more combo fields (I’m thinking dust trap [blind/smoke] or flash-bang trap [confusion/light]).
Signets are woefully underpowered compared to every other profession’s signets.
Shouts are lackluster afterthoughts (I never use them).
Spirits are squishy and aren’t worth the spot on a skill bar.
Survival skills are quite nice actually.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
So, just to get this straight: you’re complaining that to obtain the most legendary of legendary weapons in the game it takes too long? Kind of negates the whole “legendary” status if you can just acquire it in a week doesn’t it?
And it’s only a “grind” if you try to get all the items in a month’s time. If you just play normally but with a goal in mind, it’s not a grind…it’s playing the game. You’re turning it into a grind because you want something that’s designed to be hard to obtain right now.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
NO MOUNTS. You think there are too few DEs now? Wait until everyone has free quick travel. Nobody will stop to help you fight something, jump into a DE, interact at all. Mounts are neat….but they destroy interactivity within a zone. Think about when you played games with a mount…you just ran along the road & ignored everything around you.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ve noticed this too. At launch, I couldn’t move 20 feet without a DE triggering nearby. Sometimes there would be 2 overlapping an area. I figured population density would thin out after launch, but this is ridiculous. I’m the same as the OP, having everything but DEs for my daily achievement and then having to hunt down skill challenges in hopes that they’ll count. Plus all the bugged DEs are annoying. In a 35-45 area I came across probably 4 bugged DEs last night.
