I know that, but I’m not ready to give up on the game quite yet. I think that if they don’t release SAB in the next few weeks that will be my breaking point. To put the minis in the store for the 2 year anniversary and not intend to follow up on it is beyond trolling and proof that they couldn’t care less about the community.

I have been considering just putting it down. Maybe It’s time to try Rift again. I wish there was a good MMO out there that I liked. Maybe Wildstar has fixed some things and is worth checking out again?

Traits Part 2

Shaaba.5672

I have a character I started after the traits change a year ago. She’s now 78 and I decided to look at her traits to see what was available for me to use. As I’ve been leveling, I’ve basically just been putting my trait points into whatever I had available and haven’t focused on a specific build. The only active effort I’ve put into hunting traits is to complete Gendarran Fields as I know there is a map complete traits for that as well as a few on that map.

I have a total of 8 traits, 1 adept trait in each line except for skirmishing, which has 4 adept traits. I haven’t earned enough skill points yet to fully unlock all my skills yet, let alone spend for trait unlocks. Skills are sexier.

I’m sure that I’m not playing this optimally. I should have rationed my skill points to take skills that I know I will use, and I should have actively sought out trait unlocks all around the map. That’s not how I like to play, though. If I start a map, I like to complete it before moving on rather than hopping from here to there and leaving only partial trails of explored areas. I’d like it if I didn’t feel like I had to explore Gendarran Fields every single time I level a new character just because that gives me a trait. How boring.

We’re coming up on a year of this change and I dislike even more as I live with it and am forced to work within this framework. I refuse to buy the traits I need on principle because there are too many. If it were just a few here and there and I really didn’t feel like killing the giant grub, I might, but as it is, no. This character will probably see light play, maybe park it at a JP or farming area, explore maps a little, but it won’t see as much play time as the toons I have that are fully traited.

There are new players who don’t even know what a mess this system is and think this is normal and acceptable. I don’t accept it and won’t stop voicing my displeasure until we see changes, or at least hear about their future plans. This game is so fantastic in a lot of ways, but the magic is gone and things that I was willing to overlook before are now just reminders of how disappointed I am becoming. Honestly, I think the main reason I still log in is because there is no other game grabbing my attention right now.

An Approach to Fishing!

Shaaba.5672

I wasn’t a huge fan of fishing in WoW, but it was nice as an option. I did really like fishing in Rift though. A couple of main differences is that in Rift, you had the chance to fish up artifacts. Collecting these artifacts would fill out a collection that rewarded you various prizes. This would be so simple to add in for GW fishing, because they have the collections already in place. There were also daily turn ins. Not just one fishing daily, but each zone had a daily turn in and you could pick your reward – i think it was food or housing item. And of course you could just use the fish for cooking too. Or to craft different lures that boosts chances to fish up specific items. If they implemented fishing, I would really like to see it incorporate a lot of the Rift ideas.

I liked it and thought it was amusing. The filter was what sold it to me.

The reaction, though, reminded me of when WoW release the pre-Lich King plague. People loved it or hated it. This is by no means comparable event wise, just reaction wise. At the time I though ‘this is why we can’t have nice things.’

Mar, what you’ve just outlined is called professionalism and PR speak. We have zero idea about the actual situation there. Having said that, I have no reason not to take the situation at face value so I will accept his word.

If they don’t have any new or concrete info to give us, fine, but what’s killing the excitement for me is the constant drip of info. Most of the time what they do give us is not really news or is so vague that it’s almost like no news. I get it, it’s an expansion that they are still working on. They don’t want to backtrack and make false promises, fine. Then just leave it be until you have some actual news you are willing to release, because right now I don’t read any of it. If it’s exciting enough news, the forums will tell me I’m missing something.

Keep in mind guys that the specializations are the new ways that ANet is adding diversity to the game, so they will come out with more than one specialization per class. I suspect that they’ll have at least 2 per class, so that should give us hope so we can have the weapons we look forward to.

The first Thief Spec may get Rifle while the second may get Staff as a melee.

Right now they are planning on one new specialization for the HoT release (so technically you could count ranger as a specialization and druid as the second). They’ve also said in the future there will be more specializations, but we don’t know what their timeframe is. I don’t expect we will have more than one specialization with HoT, but if we do, it won’t be anytime soon after it’s release.

Traits Part 2

To me, the fact that traits are tied to buggy content is the worst offense and should have been the first thing they concentrated on, either by fixing it or just changing the trait unlock to something else. That right there tells you how much they care about a quality product and it makes me sad.

The priorities and decisions made by the higher-ups are pushing me more and more to quitting the game so I don’t have to feel guilty for supporting bad behavior. Since I have zero faith they care about our concerns in any meaningful way, the only way I can express my displeasure in a way they will care about is through my wallet. They haven’t gotten any money from me in a good while and won’t for the foreseeable future.

There are lots of things in game that you don’t need, but you like to have. Consider this one of those things that some people want and others couldn’t care less about. I couldn’t care less about plush backpacks, but I wouldn’t comment if someone made a post asking for more. They are voicing their opinion and if Anet thinks it has merit, they will act. Since the guild bank/personal bank issue has come up because of this change, then people are just taking the opportunity to give feedback.

I’m sorry I’m picking on your post, because you’ve been calm and polite about it, but in this thread and others people voicing this opinion have been denigrated for having no willpower etc, blah blah. This is what I am not getting – you don’t like it? Fine. but is it really worth commenting on if you’re not trying to add to the conversation?

Wouldn’t all of this be solved if individual players simply kept their money on them instead of chucking it into a personal guild vault? Does it matter that the money is all in the same place?

I continue to be amazed that people don’t understand why others might like a separate vault. Seriously, does no one have a savings account anymore? Not to mention that people began using the guild vault as a workaround to the wallet changes per Anet’s suggestion. Sure, for the most part the wallet is a great change, but I do still miss the deposit option.

I enjoy SAB, but have not been clamoring for it’s return. I was willing to cut them a little slack. I was slightly annoyed, but no more than that. I am still willing to cut them a little slack, but after introducing the minis into the chest, I have to believe they intend to open it soon. I get that it’s not going to be an April 1 release again. I also realize they wouldn’t want to let SAB steal the thunder from their April 1 joke by being released on top of it. I am willing to see what comes in the next few weeks and if it’s still not opened, then it will actually make me angry.

I know Anet hasn’t exactly been forthcoming about their plans about the game, but I honestly don’t believe they are so tone-deaf as to tease with the minis and then not deliver. If they are, then between this and the traits, they’ve lost my good will and tolerance. I really love so many things about this game, but the disconnect would be so glaring it would be hard to just brush off.

I can’t help but shake my head at people who are berating those of us who like this idea about discipline. I mean, what? Do you not have a savings account at your bank? I know this is a game and not life, but it’s not like it’s a foreign concept. Believe it or not, I do manage to not spend all my pocket money (in and out of game) just because it’s there. I just like to have a goal to work towards and watch the progress.

(Sorry, it’s not just this thread that people are talking about discipline – it’s the other one too and my annoyance spilled over into this one)

I don’t understand this. Why can’t you just save up from your wallet like everyone else?

Well, it’s been explained, but I will outline how I use it. After each gaming session I put a set amount of gold into my personal guild bank. It’s a fairly small amount, but it’s every time I play. Just like a percentage of my paycheck is automatically deposited into my savings account. Out of sight out of mind. The money I have in my wallet is now free and clear to spend on whatever catches my eye.

I like to have a rainy day fund. I do the same with gems – buy a few each day so that I don’t have to deal with inflated prices when there’s a mad rush. It’s just a habit I’ve gotten into and it’s a system that works for me in game and in real life.

I’m wondering how it doesn’t change then, because the ways of getting them were severely reduced. Like I said, I think the duped dyes people got from the wardrobe changes may be drying up. There is just no way that supply is going to keep pace with demand going forward. They were so freely given out at the start of the game and the huge glut – what is replacing that? Laurels? Chests? What other ways can you get unID dyes?

Shaaba.5672

How is a drop in supply by nearly half in 5 months holding steady? I’m sure there are plenty of people like me who aren’t speculators or particularly tuned into the market who held onto a bunch of dyes from the wardrobe change (was that the last April patch?) For just this situation.

With the reduced ways of getting them added to the flood of dyes people got back from dupes, it was just a matter of time before they climbed in price. It did take longer than I thought, but I think the dupe dye supplies everyone got are finally thinning out. I was lucky – at one time dyes were as low as about 5s and I spend a ridiculous amount of money opening dyes that I used on all my alts. In the veeeeeery long run, that was the best investment I ever made in this game.

I understand why people want more ways to get dyes, but I have waited a while for the demand to outstrip the easy supply. I figured that the gift of color would be the main driver rather than people opening them on a gamble. I would be perfectly fine with easier ways to get the dyes you want. Just don’t mess with the unidentified ones :p

Checking account vs. Savings account is the perfect way to phrase it. And yes, I would like this back. I know I can use a personal guild bank or a dummy buy order on the TP but I would rather have it in my personal bank. Doesn’t clutter the TP, easier to access and manage, and no security issues with guild bank.

This change most likely won’t effect me in the near future, but I wanted to add my voice to supporting the personal bank gold storage. I have been putting a percentage of gold in my guild bank each week in order to save it up for a big purchase. The rest that’s in my wallet is fun money I don’t have to feel guilty about spending. It’s a system that works for me.

That number is steadily growing. I’d like to know that when I reach my goal I’d have access to gold that is legitimately mine. I don’t forsee a situation where I’d need to withdraw more than 500 RIGHT NOW or lose out on what I want, but it’s hard to say it would never happen. I understand why you’re doing this, but if you can make it easier for the legit players in any way, I’d appreciate the courtesy. Not to mention I never liked the personal guild vault answer because – yikes. I am always afraid of accidentally leaving that guild.

If you want us to clutter up the TP with dummy buy orders, I guess that works too, but I’m not as happy with it.

Also, I really like the PIN for the bank vaults. Good idea.

I love the idea of a scavenger hunt for the pre and am excited about the new details. I also love the idea that they are account bound. But mostly, I am very interested in the map bonus part of this! So even the mats (i.e. Lodestones) will be something you can concretely work towards without resorting to the TP unless you want to speed it up. I don’t mind a long grind – I expect it. If you’re not willing to put the work into a legendary of all things, then I’m not sure what motivates you in this game. Just my opinion.

If we want to talk of unprofessional, that would be the sloppy way the NPE was rolled out and the changes they slapped together to make it happen, but that’s for another thread and topic.

Well that’s boring. So you just collect plants now and wave to the mobs as you swim by? How sad.

I’d feel better about the changes if they actually took the time to redesign them a little to be interesting or challenging. It didn’t have to be much, but a little care would have been appreciated. Take for instance the bear cubs you feed for Bear. The bundles are out (sad) and I understand why they did that, but at least a few of the traps you now release could have a skelk of something in them. The heart in Queensdale has traps you open and sometimes they don’t have anything, sometimes you fight a drake. That’s been in since launch and was designed that way. When comparing it to the Bear heart, the effort just seems half-hearted and not as professional.

So are you starting Wayfarer from Diessa or Snowden? Because if you’re starting from Hoelbrak, or if you want to access the southern part of Wayfarer at all you have to go on the roadway that passes by the bunny heart. It’s the only path between north and south wayfarer.

Straight out of Hoelbrak. Near the Bear heart there is a mountain pass that comes out exactly where the bunny heart used to be. And that’s the one I’ve always used. From the old bunny heart, I cross the bridge above the path you are talking about – the one Linea uses to follow the jackelope. I only discovered the road you are talking about after passing through Wayfarer a couple of times.

know where it is, but I disagree with the ‘literally can’t miss it’ part. I’ve completed that map twice since Sept and the first time I had to hunt for it and it was the last one to be filled in, and the second time I skipped right over it too and then remembered to go back. My natural path is to come at Taigan from the west, not the road. I agree it’s not out of the way or anything, but it’s also easy to miss. I never triggered a part of the map that reveals an empty heart for it until I went there specifically.

The bunny heart in Wayfarer is one that I always miss when I do that map. I go through the mountain pass, then cross the bridge to the Jotun area. From there I head north, etc – it’s a pattern picked up from my first few times through. I didn’t know where the bunny heart was until I had finished the map and then had to find it for completion.

The location is fine and I like it, but I think that if there was an event near there, it would help draw people in there more naturally. Or maybe I’m just different in the way I travel it, but even before the changes, that was never an area I naturally traveled through.

Nobody will see traits until they first tell us about traits, in broad nearly uninformative strokes.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about info from Anet. We get drips of info that’s supposed to be informative but it just drains the life out of any excitement for me. If they wait until HoT releases to actually fix the traits, they will lose a lot of goodwill from me. They can’t use the excuse of ‘working on the expansion’ because this needs to be rolled out too and can’t wait. They could use it as an opportunity to show us their new vision of progression and get us excited again. Well, that and it just needs to be done, like yesterday. And if for some reason it’s so tied into the new mastery system code that they can’t separate it, they need to tell us that so our expectations are kept in check.

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Shaaba.5672

I absolutely don’t mind the unlock for the new grandmaster traits. When they came out it was fun to hunt them down (well, fun as in fun the first time – for each character … not as much).

I am totally fine with high level traits being huntable, if the tasks are difficult, but not gated by some random thing out of your control. It’s when each and every single gosh darned bugger is something you have to hunt down.

The three new alts I have taken through this system only have a handful of traits, and that’s with me leveling in the same maps (boring) because I know I need a map complete for a trait and know a few of the other on that map now, so I make sure to hit em up when I am in the area. So I know how to get a few traits pretty well, and most of them not at all and I can’t really bring myself to care enough to look them up all the time and go from one to another.

That’s something that’s lacking, I think. A way to see if there are traits to unlock on a map. The ones on the same map are scattered throughout the lines and it’s difficult to see if you’ve picked up all the ones can without tediously searching each description. (and when I say ‘lacking’, I mean if we are forced into this system, it’s the least they could do to make this a little less painful)

Alts for me are a mixed bag. I love making them, and since the trait change I have made 3 that are in various stages of leveling up. I don’t really plan on them doing anything though. I’m kind of hoping the trait changes will be fixed and by that time I will have a new stable of level 80 alts to play with TADA traits. Other than that, I’m in no rush.

I am feeling the stat slump though. I understood what people were talking about before, but now I know how it feels. And it feels bad. I will sometimes switch to a lower level zone when I hit a bad patch because it’s less of a struggle. With the slump and just a few random traits to help me out, sometimes you just feel like a sitting duck.

Removal Of WvW Map Completion In Patch

in WvW

Posted by: Shaaba.5672

Shaaba.5672

I think the incentive to do WvW should be more than map completion. If you’re upset at losing the small number of players who might stick around after dipping a toe in, I think it’s counterbalanced by players who can’t get a good rotation for completion, or taking up room in server queues.

Personally, I really like the idea of WvW specific rewards. Compare that to the PvP reward tracks. I only recently tried out PvP because I wanted a specific reward. Occasionally I enjoy a pvp match, but mostly it’s something I do to progress the track. So it’s doing it’s job – getting more people to try PvP, and rewarding those that do it a lot. Why shouldn’t you expect the same type of thing for WvW? Map completion wasn’t enough of a carrot.

In such massive fight you are Not a special snowflake.

Well, to be fair it was mainly the airship that took Z out. It’s not like at any other point of the story we were completely alone. All along there are numerous NPCs that fight and die beside us. So yeah, it does make sense for the final story to also be soloable, because the story makes it clear that you’re not doing it on your own anyway.

You are aware that the 89 page thread actually have a post that outright state that the traitsystem will be changed with HoT and that we will know more before release, right?

That’s not exactly what I’d call open communication. Hey, if that satisfies you, then I’m sure Anet is hoping for more players like you rather than me.

I was leveling in Wayfarer’s Foorhills today, not realizing it was part of the daily rotation. (I had already done the dailies and the list wasn’t up on the side). I found out by being swarmed by players when an escort event came up. I barely got bronze on that and I had to try very hard. I just wasn’t quick enough to get a hit on mobs before they were melted down.

I am cool with trying to herd people into different zones, but please spread it out. Give us a region, not a specific map. For actual players at an appropriate level – it’s not much fun having your events being appropriated by the big kids all the time.
