It really is unfortunate that such a steep priority seems to have been placed on prohibiting how we enjoy the game, and how long we’re permitted to enjoy it. What happened to making a game that is fun, and what gamers want? No gamer wants to have to wonder ‘hey, can I continue playing in the way I am enjoying right now, or is the game about to start punishing me for doing so?’. None.
I get that ANet was not able to keep their ‘no grind’ promise. It’s harder to do than it sounds, especially in a game with a gear ceiling where there needs to be pacing for the sake of giving people something to do when they don’t want to explore or do pvp. But you can’t put a grind into the game and then attempt to force everyone to be unable to actually complete it at every turn, then call that ‘fun’ or even ‘functional’.
@ Fayte: How would making Karma harder to farm get them more Gem purchases, exactly? Since Karma items tend to be account bound, you’re not buying those off the TP. They certainly won’t be getting more Karma Booster purchases from it, given there are a number of reports in this very thread of the DR trumping the booster halfway through its duration.

While I agree that there are very pressing issues that need to be worked on, the things listed there wouldn’t have been fixed by the people that need to fix the guild bugs.
#1: Audio bug, fixed by audio tech
#2: Camera bug, fixed by people who likely have zero knowledge of whats going on with the guild situation.
#3: Hopefully.. fixed by some intern who isn’t permitted to touch anything shiny, red, or important in any way yet. >.> (Yeah.. that one did make me stare blankly, too).
Though, quite frankly.. I don’t think they have the slightest idea what’s going on with the guild issues to fix it at this point. Last update was what, 16 days ago? I’ve actually seen an extremely steep increase in the problem that is supposed to be caused by maps losing contact with the guild server, and so have my guildies. The problems are getting worse, not better, if they are testing any solutions.
I have no idea where to post this kind of issue, it's very unclear but here it is.

They won’t fix player errors, it’s in the ToS when you join the game, and has been confirmed by Gail on the forums, elsewhere.
I had Monthly Xp completed as of a few minutes ago. Now I have ? ? and it is un-completed. -.-
So as not to make a new thread, dragging this up to say as an 80 I just completed one and got jute, 3 level 20 items, 1 80 item. I would like to know if this disappointing reward is actually intended.
I do find it funny that Lindsey posted in the other thread about wanting to make sure we had ‘enough’ butter when changing it to the bag drops (which ruined things for all other crafting by absolutely killing the droprates of other crafting items. Thanks for the ‘concern’ there >.>) .. yet severely deprived us of vanilla, which we need just about as badly.
How about taking the ridiculous plethora of high level area carrots and turning them into something we actually need.
Me and my guildie had it happening while we did a heart today. Each time we killed certain mobs down by Slieves Waypoint (Sp? Not in the game at the moment) in Caledon it would give us both that message. Only some mobs, not all.
Our first experience in Orr was the first time that myself and my guildie that I was partied with both felt utterly bored with the game. It was just a nonstop respawning sea of sameness and tedium. It just felt like Anet ran out of any time to design the final areas of the game and said ‘Lets crank the fodder cannon to 82. Nonstop respawns that do not vary in any way is fun, right? right?’ …No. Not right.
I’m reluctant to go back because it was so insanely boring and disappointing, but I suppose i’ll have to if I want access to crafting mats and map completions.
I throw my Ring of Fire at people all the time in events. Since I play her with my guildie’s thief it’s handy for her shortbow, and random other people might use it accidently even if they don’t know about the combo.
We learned that one just by happening to play them together, I might add.
(edited by Shaileya.7063)
I am having a hard time understanding what your complaint is right now, unless as Corian suggests, you just charge off without your wife, kill the mob, and feel she should get the credit while she runs around trying to catch up?
My guildie and I have pretty much played our mains together entirely. Neither of us are experiencing this problem. We both hit the mob.. we both get credit.
Edit: Ah. You are playing a warrior. Well, if you are not willing to play another class while grouped with her, then let her run ahead and tag it. Then flatten it.
While things can be done to lengthen the initial playtime for checklisters, as you’re calling them, it is not actually possible to make an endgame that will hold their interests long term.
They’re the same sort of people that only keep their WoW subs active when theres a raid they don’t have gear out of yet, or they only log in to keep up with the latest currancy/pvp in between.
The antisocial state of all PVP in GW2 (unable to SPVP with friends due to poorly thought out system, waffley queue meaning no guild wvw) means there is no PVP to keep them interested. Fixing that would obviously be helpful for checklister and not alike, but it won’t hold their interests very long.
These sorts of players only want to experience things once usually, and nothing short of new content is likely to appease them very long. I knew people in WoW that stopped logging in the very day they got the last raid item they could possiblly upgrade their character with because their interest was merely being artificially extended via a sense of progression. They had experienced said raid, and thus since it isn’t new and shiny now, they don’t repeat it because they like it. They repeat it because it has a new item to wear. It isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about the sense of accomplishment.
GW2 doesn’t really have much of a sense of progression to even a non-checklister. I’m not personally bothered by that generally, but I certainly see that there isn’t one. Your achievements are not even shared with your guild in any way, so theres no sense of having bragging rights or something to congratulate others on and such. It was a bit of a downer that we couldn’t even see when our own guildies hit 80. Kind of trivializes the achievement system a bit that you don’t even get to share.
Something that might help hold non-content repeaters interests? A zone with rotating Events/Boss Fights. Something that wouldn’t be predictable. No popping into the zone to ask when x boss is going to spawn because everybody knows it’s timer. This might give new-content seekers something to linger around with longer in between updates.

If you die at all on a character then that character can no longer get the lifetime survivor achievement at all. It doesn’t work like the monthly achievement does where you just need to get the xp needed without dying.
Nope.
Sick to death of never being able to edit my posts. Fix this already.
Elemental>Tornado
The elemental has a cooldown of 120, lasts for 60 seconds and the earth one does have pretty nice survivability.
Tornado has a midrange cooldown (180), but it doesn’t paticularlly prove very useful (on land). It can be hard to see while being a tornado in a small space, and I have my serious doubts that it even grants the 15 seconds of stability that it is supposed to. I have had mobs instantly knock me down after turning into the tornado which the tooltip suggests should not be possible. All and all, I found it to be pretty useless, given that.
You will want to have it for the (currantly extremely buggy!) underwater form, however. Do you do a lot of water combat? Then you want this.. for water alone, pretty much. However, it rarely ever functions properly. I spend most of my time in it completely invisable, unable to do anything at all, not damaging mobs. The only thing you can do when that happens is cancel the ability.
Edit: Edited for misread.

iThing is likely a reference to Mesmer clones/spells with the word illusion in the name to shorten down the text to type it out.
Since Mark wanted a seperate post on this.. yeah.
Clicking +1 (in red): We cannot currantly see what it does.. but it can sometimes be clicked more than once showing up in red (like it is new).
I do not know the details of the why. I haven’t paid enough attention to the ones that become re-clickable in red to see if I can tell a pattern, but I know i’ve done it before. It is generally happening on a thread I go back to from memory. Like when I go back to see if a thread has more responces.
Clicking +1 (after grey): I decided to click a grey one while posting about this in the original thread. It let me click it again, forever. I don’t know if it is actually doing anything when I click it again repeatedly, since we don’t know what it does to begin with. However, if being grey is supposed to be greying it out as in no longer clickable.. it isn’t working.
If reclicking the grey is removing the +1 you gave it, it doesn’t tell you that is what it’s doing. Some kind of mouseover text would help if that’s what it’s actually doing.
I can re- +1 posts all the time, Mark. Not every time.. but quite often I go back and can click it over again. Sometimes it becomes greyed out instead, but I don’t know if they stay greyed out since I don’t remember offhand which ones were greyed enough to check back.
Edit: Hmm.. also.. the greying out doesn’t prevent re-clicking it again I just noticed. No idea what that is doing to it, since I can’t tell what it’s supposed to do to begin with.
Also, did not see the request to make another thread about it at first. Have now done so.

You don’t need to hit F fast for it. If you get the extra go from the bonus, it just leaves the tree/ore/etc there to farm again. So go ahead and rebind your F key clicker, since the game doesn’t care if you’re clicking F fast.
Playing it my way would be playing the traditional MMO, which is running and grabbing multiple quests and then doing those quests for exp. I don’t want to explore, and I couldn’t possibly care less about exploring tbh…
Sorry, but.. why on earth would you buy this game if you wanted it to just be a WoW clone? There are plenty of those out there for you to play. This game was designed to center around exploring. When they said ‘play your way’, they didn’t say ’We’ll also include a Clonesrus Version with linear breadcrumbs forcefed to you to tell you exactly what to do next for the entire game.
Seems to be just there for flavor. Not only does it not work, but it will let you go ‘re-+1’ quite often, since it didn’t care that you clicked it in the first place.
7 females, 3 males. I’m an altaholic, had even more alts in GW1.
Shaileya 254 hours is definitely hardcore. Now you may consider it more casual than in the past but it’s hardcore by nearly anyones standards in terms of time invested.
Ah, perhaps I wasn’t clear in my meaning. I meant casual in that I am not hitting up the dungeons, farming my sets and stalking Arah events and whatnot. I spend a lot of time on my alts, exploring and zone completing instead as I don’t feel a need to rush to end game.
In my former MMO I was an active raider. When the last xpack came out, I felt I HAD to rush through the new content asap to keep up with progression. I re-hit max level in 2 days, on minimal sleep, so that I could be the first healer in our guild to be max level again. So I could then run considerablly more dungeons than was actually fun at all so that my guildies could work on their gear. Doing things like that over time got really old, and the game did get boring to me.
In this game, I don’t rush things. I may spend a lot of time on it, but I stop to take in the scenery, and I have not even been in most of the dungeons yet as I prefer to wait for my simularlly minded guildies who are leveling a bit slower than I am.
254 hours. I consider myself midrange between casual and hardcore. I’ve been more towards hardcore in other games (Raiding 6 nights a week at one point in my gaming life), but i’m far more towards casual in GW2 since i’m enjoying taking my time and not rushing through anything right now.
You should try posting in a forum they actually seem to read. XD The forum works quite buggily and we don’t seem to get any replies to the forum issues here. Try the Account Issues one, since that more matches what is happening for you (you can’t link accounts), and gets replies.
Been happening for several days, and it happens in multiple browsers.
It’s not to do with 48 I don’t think, because I have this problem often on the stickied Guild Issues thread, and it has many, many more replies than 48. I do have it happen though, I have to reload it a few times to show anything each time.
Edit: Hmm.. okay, this is a new one on me. I just went to read something that hit 48, and now I cannot, and refreshing isn’t fixing it. So I guess it is 48.. and it is not a Mesmer thread.

I agree with Khristophoros. The lock happy nature on some things is getting a little crazy. I noticed a question/answer thread that got locked for being answered already that had misinformation in the answers due to a patch change, in fact. No note of the wrong info in the thread locking process, either. That made me feel very … =/ Why are things being locked so frequently? How is it harming the forums to let us chat about things? (And no, I don’t mean the goldseller/bot threads. I get why those get locked. But what’s with all the other locking going on?)
The patch notes we got this time were extremely vague. I wish I knew what was actually fixed since it is pretty much summed up as ‘we fixed some broken stuff. have fun wandering off to broken zones to see if we fixed that or not’.
You made me curious, so I took a screenshot of kamadan at 5am pacific, 2 weeks after GW2 came out. Still people kicking about.
Edit: Ah, I did hear about SWG having shot themselves in the foot so to speak with an update that killed the game. Maybe that’s it.
(edited by Shaileya.7063)
It doesn’t work from not logging out, either. I stayed on the char, and did 100k in one play setting, but obviously I need to be able to use waypoints occassionally, and I run out of anything of interest to do being forced to stay in one zone, so i’m not bothering. Especially as the new anti-farming systems will punish you for staying in an area too long..
I would guess it is bugged, but no one has bothered to confirm or deny that i’ve seen.
Nice! And thanks for the reply
I have to admit though. I use some of those quotes as my catch phrases when I’m with my friends… its catchy…
We do this too, though.. For Great Justice! has morphed into us shouting ‘ForkittenJustice!’ on voice chat.
We do repeat some of the lines in normal fashion, though our own characters lines always take a back seat to Quaggan and Skritt ones, haha.
Hmm. Okay. I somehow tripped the filter, even though I wasn’t cussing. Guess they are afraid of you calling someone else dim-witted effectively.
(edited by Shaileya.7063)
I am not personally convinced it is even possible to get it right now. I’ve given up, since it never updates anymore, just like Lifetime doesn’t. I got over 100k the other day without dying, and have notta to show for it.
But me being Aussie has a big part of my bias in this. Just because it’s celebrated in one part of the world doesn’t mean it should be shoved in my face everykittenyear.
Tell Austrailia to get working on making their own MMO so they can celebrate only Aussie flavored holidays in it, then. :P Saying American game developers should stop having fun with a holiday they are familur with just because you don’t personally celebrate it is quite rude.
Every POI, every Vista, even the Skillpoints that myself and my guildie got in WvW last week now show as undiscovered/unearned on the map. How am I supposed to complete the zone if everything is going to reset every match?
I played until 60 nearly without touching my alts, and I normally am an altoholic. At that point, my modivation was see new zones, reach new cooking ingredients. If I kept alt swapping, I wouldn’t get to see either as I would be on a bunch of lowbies.
However, at 60, me and my guildie that I usually play the game with decided we wanted to start peeking in on our alts. We did a little work on the classes we felt we had not gotten to much in the beta next, because they were what we had the least playtime with prior to release.
Then we thought about how we like to collect pets, and a third guildie had a ranger alt he was working on, so we decided to work on those a while.
When we started feeling like we wanted to see new zones again, we went back to our 60s, who are now mid-60s.
Basically, we make goals. We say what do we want to do right now, and we go with what will help us accomplish that best. That’d be my best advise for figuring out alting. Failing that, try a rotation system when you figure out what a comfortable ammount of time is for playing one specific toon to you.
As a GW1 player from day one who loves both games.. I would like to ask.. why did you buy the game, then?
ANet was plenty open about Dynamic Events (hearts were not even there to begin with period) and the Spellbar throughout the lengthy production process. Why buy a game you won’t like, and then complain about it? You’re opinion is your opinion, but what more could ANet possiblly do other than to tell you what they were making, and hope you would take that info into consideration before buying? They wanted to move away from standard questing as part of their basic foundation for the game. They threw a breadcrumb to people that struggled with the DE only model by adding Hearts to begin with.
Trading Post replacing all trading you did not have a way of knowing about since they didn’t specify about it beforehand any, and I do agree this is a poor move given people have demonstraited a clear intent to trade via the unsafe mail system anyway without one. This is just leaving an open loophole for scammers by not offering a safer alternative which leads to unhappy customers clogging up the ticket system with problems that didn’t need to happen to begin with.
That said, I do agree scaling needs work quite a bit. I think in the rush to finally get the game out, it isn’t nearly as polished a DE system as they had hoped for us. Hopefully it will get better, later.
(edited by Shaileya.7063)
I heard they said somewhere there would be a Halloween event, but then again, that was kind of before we saw the scale of broken stuff too.. soo.. yeah, lol.
For those concerned about emersion/holidays that haven’t played the first game, Tyrian holidays have a pretty decent lore flow. Halloween is all about http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Mad_King_Thorn
The undead mad king puts in an appearance once a year, when the seals that bind him to the underworld become weak. I would imagine the GW2 version of the Holiday would once again center around the Underworld spilling over into the rest of the world due to Thorn’s influence.
There are some cinematic conversations that are missing VO files. It helps if you can screenshot the missing line for us, or if you can at least give us the text. They’re easy to fix if we know those details.
Bobby, this would be a complete waste of time on the early Asura Statics. Pretty much -everything- some of the NPCs are supposed to say is now missing. My character speaks, and then we listen to crickets on each one of the early steps right now. Very rarely, Zojja will quirp out about 1 line. Then go back to being mute.
I’m back to working on my main right now so I cannot attest to it getting any better or worse past the early ones, since.. you know. I can’t do my story in a group with my friends on my main without breaking my character. >.>
Thanks, They. I did have a few cases where I was really annoyed I couldn’t edit!
Ah, thanks for the info Onion. I didn’t know it did even that.. guess we never tried spamming it in Beta.
It never really did anything when you pressed F. Same as it was in Beta.
I do agree the Fellblade is pretty disappointing to look at. It looked great in the concept art stage, but something got lost in translation there, since it pretty much lost all of it’s spell effect as an actual item.
Not even half as disappointing as the Rainbow Jellyfish actually being the same exact model, color and all, as the Blue Jellyfish, however. I’m still extremely angry about that. Absolutely no difference to a pet you can get straight out of Lion’s Arch, and for being such a high point pet in the HoM.
All the rest of the pets are highly unique.. it’s like they just stopped caring when they got around to the jellyfish.
I would like subsections.. or even just the ability to filter out ‘Heres the tickets we solved today’ since I don’t have any tickets atm and I would really just like to be able to easily find posts that say things like ‘Hey, we acknowledge this event is buggy and we’re going to shove the fix for it in the x update’.
GW1 was my first MMO. I went back to it in the past year to work on my HoM after a long break. I did a stint of several years of weekly raiding on WoW, but it got old and tiring after a while. I also vaguely poked at SWTOR with a pointy stick, albeit somewhat distantly. I liked the SWTOR story stuff, and.. nothing else about it at all, really.
I’m pretty sure the entire point of having a Dev Tracker is so we can see a quick and handy list of changes and bug replies and whatnot. Except.. all we really get with it right now is an endless sea of the generic ‘And now I close this thread and clog up the Dev tracker again!’ messages to wade through.
Any way we can get the couple employees that are flagged as Devs and seem to be here purely to lock threads designated as Moderators instead? The Moderators didn’t show up in the Dev Tracker when they would close things.
I have a great solution for Kaineng. Let those of us stuck in queues go sub in for the lowest pop server in a match while we’re sitting around waiting in our queues. My guild is a small guild of close knit friends. We PVE mostly together, and we want to do the same with WVW, but it rarely ever lets even two of us in at the same time and the rest are left waiting for hours afterwards. I certainly wouldn’t mind subbing for some other realm while waiting for it to actually let multiple guildies in instead of lottery systeming one of us and ignoring the rest.
I got a ‘new’ one today. Popped into Lion’s Arch on Maguuma and got told my guild hasn’t built a bank yet, instead of my usual ‘You don’t have a guild’. Might as well not have one, as unoften as it is ever accessable to me.
Still broken on Maguuma at the moment.
Timberline Falls still bugs (a lot). Drunken Skritt event is still broken in north side of the area on Maguuma. Going to head south and see if anything else is still broken.
Water does suck. No arguement can ever be made that water combat as a Ele doesn’t suck right now in it’s currant form. XD I don’t care if we have a ton of water CC. Killing something does not equate to CC. Everytime I get on any other class and get in water it’s like ‘Ah.. so this is what it’s like to be able to kill something in water without taking 5 years. Nifty.’
Damage wise, I think some of the weapons have a major trade off of utility over damage.. sort of why we suck in water pretty much, like ANet feels we should take a damage tax if we’ve got utility/cc going for us.
Squishiness wise? Yeah, we’re quite squishy, and I don’t glass cannon spec at all.
