Any game with classes is going to have some level of “Here’s my trump card for your trump card.” Stuns are paper, Stun breakers/Stability are Scissors, Boon removal is the Rock. In GW1 it was the same thing, in DCUO it was the same thing, in Eve online it’s the same thing, in every multiplayer class based game it’s the same thing. There’s no getting away from it.
This is pretty crude though. Much like the engineer trait which means no conditions effect them under 25% health. I think this narrow design is bad for the game.
Save possible dodges if needed and build up on life force for those 10 seconds if the warrior hasn’t tried bursting yet. Also kite using pillars, rocks and whatever environment you have for your advantage. If they use it pre-burst you’ll still have dodges, if they use it afterwards they won’t achieve much.
The engi trait is much more dangerous since it doesn’t have a real cooldown and defined duration, imo. Plus, I haven’t tested this yet, but I’m guessing current conditions won’t be removed, so the weakness and the possible chill will still be there to help.

Favorite map by far.
Such fun.
Just dropping a +1 for Harrier. You can tell this took effort and thought.
I disagree completely. All of this just sounds like desperate calls for random nerfs now.
The reasons why we’ve been over the top since the patch have been stated numerous of times by a lot of people. There’s no reason to just starting pointing fingers at old weapon/class defining skills when something else is over tuned, especially when, in this case, these skills add up to our ability to survive and disengage from a fight, which we lack the most.
Looks really nice. Glad it’s not a bookah map!
These builds are super effective. New meta.
Btw Xom do you have a necro school?
Xom’s Necro University… get a doctorate in necronomics.
Loooool. Love this thread.
It should work if you don’t move right after your stomp animation has finished, I’ts been like this for a while, when using quickness. But yeah, I don’t think it’s intended to happen.
What’s been really annoying me lately is triggering stomps when you try to cast spells next to a body.
Mean, but made me smile
.
As I mentioned in Purie’s threat, I think that Dhuumfire and the buff to Doom where uncalled for, specially with the addition of torment that helps us cover up our bleeds. Our damage wasn’t that bad before the patch, it was mostly our ability to disengange that was, and still is, at fault. As much as it is nice to finally be noticed by the devs, this patch did way more harm than good.
Still, some people are just being way too obnoxious about the whole issue. No one asked for this to happen, so don’t be little smug kittens.
I’ve been playing almost nothing but Necromancer since the first day of the first beta weekend, and this patch has just been disheartening. Something that I was quite looking forward to just turned into this big mess of a patch. We’ve been mostly asking for some form of disengagement before the patch, and that’s basically the one thing we didn’t get, or, if anything, we did get it in the way of extreme unneeded counter pressure, which is obviously not working at all.
A lot of the changes we got were quite positive though, despite the fact that these seem to be the ones people are ignoring the most. I feel like things such as Focused Rituals being an adept trait now, spectral skills not being removed on DS and Tainted Shackles actually opened up a lot of room for build variety and healthy tactical play. Most of our utility skills seem to be somewhat useful now which is also great.
However, there are things that need changing quickly, and these are my suggestions:
I also believe that a lot of these issues might come from the fact that you can simply stack up the same profession as part of your team which, instead of allowing variety in team compositions as was initially intended, it’s just allowing people to fill up their rosters with whatever profession/build is the most powerful at the time, like we’re seeing now with necromancers and their synergy together. Either balance classes in a way that doesn’t allow it to be 100% completely beneficial to bring more than 1 player of the same build to a match, or just prohibit it in competitive games altogether.
Ultimately, they’ll have to do something. The “let’s wait a few more weeks and adjust to the new meta” argument just doesn’t work when things are so out of proportion. We’re seeing 2+ necros per team and absolutely no warriors, thieves and rangers, and even guardians and mesmers have been a rare sight these last few days.
This is my view on the subject.
Cool stuff Winter
!
The only thing I dislike about the patch is now everyone will hate on me for playing Necromancer, while I did all along.
Feeling the same, it’s really off putting.
I really don’t know if I can cope with it for much longer , I’m so close to just quitting the game sadly.
I can’t log in without getting people whispering me “oh how does it feel playing the most op class in the game” or spamming builds and burst rotations that have been known for months.
It’s so great to just be called op after you’ve been practicing this profession since beta. This honestly just leaves me so frustrated.
One of my favorite mesmers.
Goodluck finding a good team!
Think I’ve found my place for now, thanks for the whispers

Ingame name: Shalla
Class: Necromancer only. Would rather change my build to fit a different role than change my profession.
Region: EU
Practice Times: I’m still finishing my last exams of the semester but I can play at least every evening for the time being, whilst being on and off throughout the day.
Experience: I’m currently r50 in-game, around 50 to150 on the leader boards and I’ve been playing Necromancer since the first beta weekend. I haven’t had a team for a long time, and currently I’ve just been playing with friends, pugs and solo q’ing.
Other: I’m looking for a competitive team with calm, fun, and ambitious people. If you don’t meet this criteria, that’s alright, but please don’t bother replying to this post. I hate raging ; If anything, I want to have a laugh while playing, not mute people that are shouting down my ears.
Ideally, I’m searching for a group of friendly, similarly experienced people to aim for the top with and have fun doing so.
I’ll attach a little snapshot of my in-game pvp stats and Lord Faren. Enjoy!
If this turns out to be true, I’ll be well happy! Nothing seems as overpowered as I feared, they just buffed some useless stuff and nerfed some of the most used skills (Corrupt boon, signet of undeath..). Spectral skills seem fun again and as I was hoping, burning is being attached to power builds and not pure condition ones.
I was gutted about the new patch because I hate people screaming that you’re playing an op class and that what you do has no merit at all. Right now I’m quite excited though, don’t really think anything is over the top.
Necro, as always.
It reminded me a lot of wow’s sewer arena for some reason, but the scenario is fun yeah.
On another topic, I wish there was a way for us to customize our heart of the mists area. It’s so colorful as it is now, I do not want it to go back to the shadowy and blunt way that it normally is.
(hi Shalla
!)
Hi Dave!
I just honestly hope they don’t overbuff us. I agree with us getting a few improvements but we’re not exactly rubbish at the moment either. I’m hoping the changes will mostly affect skills and traits that are currently useless rather than the ones that are already strong.
I hate playing classes that are overly powerful. People stop giving you merit for improving and being good at them and only focus on calling you a noob for playing them.
i’m having fun
Enjoyable to watch. Good work
.
This is quite exciting actually, I reckon this will be a good month :].
Player looking for a team
Ingame name: Shalla
Class: Necromancer. I’d rather change my build to meet the team’s needs than profession.
Region: EU
Practice Times: I’m online most evenings throughout the week, and just whenever during the weekend.
Experience: I’ve been playing Necromancer since the first beta weekend. Even though I do enjoy some pve with my guildies, competitive pvp has always been my main interest in the game. I’m currently r49 in-game, and I’ve been flying in and out of the current leaderboards due to solo q’ing (max I got was to around 100~ I think). I’ve had a team back in the 3-round tourney days, but it was never really stable because its members kept coming and going, and since then I’ve mostly played with friends and pugs.
Other: I’m looking for a competitive team with calm, fun, and ambitious people. If you don’t meet this criteria, that’s alright, but please don’t bother pm-ing me. I’ve had my fair share of weird, raging people with no sense of humor whatsoever.
I’m an university student so I won’t be able to be online every single day for team practice when I’ve got exams, but I don’t think that should be anything worth worrying for.

Over 150+ chests and only got 1 pair of heavy ones…
I still think rangers are ridiculous.
This, this, this. +1000
Had so much fun in a 2v2 server today. Loving it.
+1
The profession forums are a bit meh at the moment. Can’t properly discuss skills the way it’s setup right now. People will just find weird, sub-par uses for useless skills, which will continue being useless since the right idea won’t come across to the devs.
Very enjoyable to watch. Good job Blu!
Wish I had a team for this atm.
GL!
Lets take a step back, and realize this might not have to be a condition, but could rather just be an effect like stun or daze.
Disease: Conditions deal x% more damage per condition on target and movement speed is slowed 10%, lasts y seconds.
They did say it was a damaging condition like burning, poison and bleed though.
Not a lot of WoW lovers on this forum but UNSTABLE AFFLICTION would be awesome for necros to have in the current meta.
http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30108/unstable-affliction
Damage over time, does extra damage as a spike if cleansed, also silenses (dazes) target for some period of time if cleansed.
It has a beautiful effect in WoW arena of actually forcing cleansing classes to pay attention to the conditions they were cleansing from their teammates (or themselves) or suffer negative consequences.
This.
Or some sort of aoe ticks that would benefit from both power and cond. Or some parasitic spell. I hope it’s something that looks COOL. Perfect chance to give us some wow factor.

LOL
In all seriousness, this + getting stuck on the floor is a bit meh.
Great job!

In less than 4 days the monthly will reset and things will sort of be back to normal. I reckon this only happened because the patch came at the end of the month and it didn’t take into account people that had done their pve version of the monthly before it, so they are getting rewarded with laurels by doing the pvp version as well.
In a normal setting, you would only get rewarded for doing one version of the monthly, or so it said in the patch notes.
Uh…….you know each monthly reset you will see MORE people in it than not right?
You get rewarded for both I believe, but thing is pvp monthly is 10x easier than pve.
Quoting from the patch notes:
“Daily and monthly laurels can be obtained through either PvP or PvE achievements. You cannot earn additional laurels from doing both, players can simply chose to do one or the other. They will still receive all other normal daily/monthly rewards should they chose to do both PvE and PvP achievements.”
So this was clearly unintended and shouldn’t persist with the monthly reset. If it does then yeah, it’s not working as it should be.
Also, most full time pver’s I know try to avoid pvp as if it was the plague, hence why most of them around around rank 1-10. For them, the pvp monthly is not easy nor fun. You have a month to do the achievement and the pve version is easy to get with regular play, just like the pvp one is for us. Even if the pvp version would be easier than it’s pve counterpart, there’s no reward for doing it faster.
I doubt most of these players will be doing the same again for the following months, except for the ones that actually picked up some interest in pvp with this incident and wish to continue practicing and playing it, which, in my opinion, are more than welcome to do so. I reckon the matchmaking and tournament faults are a different issue (such as allowing ranks lower than say 10 to queue up, and matching them with much higher ranked people).

Good luck with the team!
I actually love shadow fiend, but you’re right he is kinda situational sometimes. Even though I do use signet of spite in my hybrid builds, I would agree it’s a mostly useless skill. Now corrosive poison cloud, it’s nearly op if you know how to use it properly. One of my favorite skills we have. Yes I am sad it doesn’t pulse physical damage too (even if it was a tiny bit just so we could get siphons off of it). Now as for spectral wall, now that they fixed the combo field location I bring that everywhere I go. Minions making confusion, chaos armor, awesome stuff for a necro. bring bone fiend and flesh wurm and you just got yourself about 7-10 stacks of confusion before it runs out. It’s one of our hidden gems, learn to use it and you’ll reveal more of it’s secrets
So I guess I wrote all this to say, signet of spite sucks lol, oh and don’t hate on shadow fiend, shame on you :P
I honestly do not mean to be harsh or negative, so please don’t take this the wrong way, but it seems to me that sacrificing all your utility slots just so you could land a potential amount of 7 stacks of confusion on a moving target every 40 seconds, is very unreliable. It requires minions to work, survive and shoot through the wall and it’s easily countered by dodging, line of sight and condition removal.
It sounds like a fun trick in theory, but I can’t see it turning into a very viable, competitive or powerful way to use these skills. I also don’t believe that a utility skill should be considered “viable” or “good” when it requires two others for it to be merely useful. I also don’t see how can such an easy skill to avoid like Corrosive Poison Cloud can be “nearly op”, specially when we have, in my view, much better alternatives for the slot, such as our Wells.
Again, it’s not my aim to be upsetting in any way, everyone’s free to play as they wish. I just replied because I don’t want some random Anet dev to come across this thread and think that skills such as these are currently fine simply because there’s some hidden, mediocre trick that we can pull off by sacrificing so much.
(edited by Shalla.3967)
I think it’s much better now.
I agree with Signet of Spite being somewhat useless. It would make far more sense for it to refill some of your life force on use, or even do some spike damage.
I can see potential in Spectral Wall and Corrosive Poison Cloud, but they need some changes for them to be viable. (e.g. Spectral Wall turning part of the projectile damage taken into health/life force or adding chill/daze/pulsing damage to Corrosive Poison Cloud).
I completely agree with you, Follidus. I’m surprised how some of these threads aren’t getting closed.

Can’t stress out enough how HAPPY I am about the Deathshroud change! FINALLY
Also excited about Dark Pact being unblockable. (And the quickness nerf). Not too worried about the Epidemic nerf, even though I use it a whole lot. I think it’s something we can easily adapt to.
I know it wasn’t much again, but the DS change totally got me by surprised. They sure made a lot of tweaks to engineers, huh?
They could have so much income with skins, regardless of profession.
