Sad but true. With each week that passes with no up date for wvw either by communication or in game, several more people log out never to return…
WvW is really dying and at an alarming rate.
If I didn’t have an alt on another server where I can pick and choose to play where there might be good fights happening…I wouldn’t be logging in either.
Not even sure I can be bothered with the pve story update that came out today.
Not played it yet, I’m sure it will be another bunch of stuff to run through once and never bother with again.
At least wvw offers some unpredictability through fights if people log in to play.

Can we just delete SMC?

With good pop balance, SMC fights are second to none! Some of the most epic fights to be had….but sadly this is not true of most of the current matches where there is often a dominant server with SMC T3 all week but that alone isn’t a reason to get rid of it.

Some servers hug smc and it’s aura to farm the brainless, just avoid EB and smc, still good fights to be had elsewhere if the match isn’t too skewed.

Sorry, I don’t have alot of sympathy for the OP as wvw-ers are forced to pve for gear, food and other items because wvw rewards are not enough to sustain wvw play. The Gift of Battle reward track is straightforward and doesn’t take a lot of time to achieve. If you invest alittle time to find out how to play wvw your time will be more enjoyable.

And as another poster has pointed out, pve map completion is required for a legendary which is far more annoying and time consuming for wvw people than a Gift of Battle is for a pve player.

I have several legendary weapons and some of those were created in the old days that required wvw maps for map completion. Now that was difficult, people had to wait for weeks or months to get the right match ups for the poi’s in some maps. But it did get people involved in wvw and they had to stick at it to get the map completion and learn about wvw in the process.

Can we have something "Private Tag" ?

Respectfully, a reminder about “forum etiquette” is not likely to fix what is causing the toxicity in this forum about wvw game mode.

I’m not condoning the rudeness, disrespect and general negativity in the forum lately but asking nicely hasn’t got the wvw player community very far with getting desired content and change. Can I politely suggest warning and infracting the people flame posting rather than treating the wvw community with a broad brush?

What are we to do as concerned wvw players wanting to have fun and enjoy our favoured game mode?? During the last ama wvw-ers were directed to this forum to make comment that the dev’s could read and comment upon. There is very little response from Anet forthcoming. Hence, the degeneration of posts due to frustration.

We just want some improvements and parity in content with pve/pvp!

I can see your point OP but destroying watchtower in the scenario outlined above doesn’t add up in the game economy, watchtower is a guild upgrade. Make another guild upgrade to destroy upgrades…perhaps/fair enough. But as someone who has to make these upgrades for my small guild, it just doesn’t seem fair. Those things cost gold to make.

This thread is a symptom of the terminal disease that wvw has due to Anet neglect.

Nothing of any great relevance is attempted to fix the game mode but they throw in an unwanted change that nobody asked for in an already vexed community….its like a poke in the eye with a stick.

Another patch, plenty of fixes for pve but wvw gets a useless piece of clutter. Better option would have been a small icon in same line as tick.

I sometimes play on a 15" lappy so yah small screen, and as a caster would be nice to have a toggle option for this stuff.

Interesting, I’ve been playing gw2 since Sept. 2012 and have never seen an anet claimed objective on any server I was on. I guess they keep moving around and I miss them.

Necro is a light class and lack of mobility still makes them easily meltable. Surely there has to be a payoff for playing necro somewhere…shouldn’t a light class have high damage from either power or condi?
There seems to be a general dislike for light class damage in general. Any light class that has a damaging build seems to be called broken and generate a alot of calls for a nerf. Why is this a thing?

  • We encourage our team members to play the game. Many of us do. This is a good thing for the game and for the community! This is good for every aspect of the game, from PvP, to WvW, to PvE, and beyond.

This is the best argument for continued developer claiming of objectives I have heard. A.net claiming objectives means they’re playing the game and might actually see some of the long-standing issues we have been voicing for years, and take action. I am in favor of this.

They were playing all along and didn’t address any long standing issues. They knew the state of WvW and still did things like open BG multiple times, link JQ with 2 servers, buff thieves, make condi OP, etc. Nothing good comes from Anet claiming objectives. I’d like to see some devs playing on TC, then maybe they’d see how bad WvW has become.

Ahka, Anet played a week on TC very recently, I was on TC and saw them.

Anet people please keep playing wvw and claiming. It gives me a small flicker of hope that the experience will result in some meaningful changes for wvw in the near future…unfortunately as the communication in this forum from Anet about the future of wvw is rather slim, for me seeing participation in game is about all that is left.

As for who claims what objective….makes no difference to me. It would have been the great even fight over the objective without lag that would make the game great for me. Winning the fight is great but losing a great fight is still pretty good.

And btw your server will get a turn to have an Anet claimed objective and to experience how things are going for your server….just saying

I for one am happy that anet devs/staff are playing wvw and experiencing the game mode first hand. By claiming objectives they are being visible and I think this is a good thing. We should be encouraging their play not bashing them for playing.

As I understand it, they play on a different server each week so its not like your server won’t get a turn and we all know that scoring means absolutely nothing at the end of the week.

There are several posts here talking about “history” and the blatant disregard for servers in the past. Please put this aside and leave it in the past where it belongs because the op’s post is in genuine concern for the state of wvw. If this hadn’t happening to TC in the past couple of weeks it would be another server that is being killed by the scoring change and the T1 trap. TC is just the unfortunate server to be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time…..

No issues here in Colorado without a ping path report you don’t know where the issue is and it is most likely a node or backbone in the path you are bing routed to the server so fare in anther post it is locolised to the east cost US so you need to send ping path report to your isp they will contact the companies that maintain the rout to the game server inform them that there are issues. It’s not the game it’s the Internet! Good Luck!

I beg to differ, ping up to 6k in wvw yesterday afternoon and I ran a trace while experiencing this in game….everything all fine (or as good as it gets from NZ) so my conclusion is that it is in game.
Disconnects also with strange error messages when trying to reconnect. At one point I was in LA and I get an in game pop up saying GW2 is taking too long to load…

Possibly to do with background work for tomorrow’s skill patch me thinks??

I do agree with these qol changes….but wvw as a game mode needs a massive overhaul.

I don’t want Anet to give us token qol changes and ignore the major issues of pop balance, profession balance and rewards that are on par with the other game modes.

About a year ago we got a poll asking if players wanted Scoring changes or QoL changes.

We never got a vote to fix the main problems in WvW (skill lag, population imbalance, lack of competition). I guess it was too obvious to even ask. They recently (some months back) mentioned they are working on rebalancing populations, so a problem is being addressed.

Solutions to the main problems require designer/architect/lead dev work. The developers/testers need to work on something else meanwhile. Let it be QoL changes. That is better than assigning them to the next expansion pack. Or to create more Repair Hammers, Deployable Cannons or Golem Rush events.

That’s true but Anet seem to think we should be satisfied with small qol changes in lieu of fixing the really big issues!

It would be great if we get some qol changes at each patch and I will be grateful but I hope Anet is working on the big issues along side the qol!

Players are the main reason for the rollercoaster. it isn’t Anet – even with their stupid changes they are not the only ones to blame.
It’s the stupid thinking that transfering to another server changes the fights or something. Then they play there for some weeks and get bored again or get farmed and transfer elsewhere. With every transfer you lose some players that are sick of transfering and stop playing.

I never get it why this is so much of an issue on NA.

I haven’t transferred in over two years – closer to three, so my comment is stronger than ever – server loyalty isn’t important so people think that the grass is greener on the next server, when it never will be.

The last part about the grass being greener…. and I will add FOMO! Once the wagon starts to go the fomo really kicks in.

Transferring freshens wvw for a very short time and people have had to do this because wvw is stale due to Anet’s lack of vision past qol changes, pve gimmicks and I guess the constant turnover of gems….

Meaningful server loyalty rewards would really help this imo…..it would have to be something really good/valuable though!

Instead of giving it more population maybe it should just get a link with a bigger server like hod, nsp or et… Yes we get map que midweek prime NA on hod. If t3 and t4 servers can get map que then a server like TC just needs to form a wvw community by promotion not direct their wvw population to EotM.

It’s wierd, in T2 TC can put up multiple map queues, but in tier 1 TC struggles to put up a single map q…. how do you accurately measure population when theres such a large difference in activity between tiers?

Erm….how have you seen multiple map queues on TC in the past couple of months?? I guess 2 maps queued on reset could be stretched as multiple….not through the week though.

Anet needs to devise a better way of keeping tabs on who is playing wvw or time duration played in wvw to get a more accurate picture of population. Monitoring guilds for participation should be included. Eotm participation must be able to be monitored…though any wvw player worth their salt won’t go there. But Anet either doesn’t have the resources or can’t be bothered.

There also seems to be a preoccupation here with fair weathering, guilds running in Eotm or desire for easy match ups to describe decreasing wvw population. Get real wvw game mode is just about dead.

JQ is even worse about it, when Cloud Fly tags down 90% of their players leave WvW.

Mag on the other hand almost never has a tag running all through euro, but there are still a kitten ton of people playing, and those people respond to calls in team/map chat.

Your servers are listed as full because they are full, they don’t need to be opened just because you have a lot of fairweather players.

You say yourself that in EU Mag has a kitten ton of players playing even when there is no tag but that’s not true on TC. There is no kitten ton of players maybe 10-15 at best if there isn’t a pin or sometimes even if there is! This is numbers across all bls….

BG friends saying, TC people saying, likely people on other servers saying…how on earth is Mag still open? Mag blobs are real and even Mag guilds complain that they can’t run private without a kitten ton of people following…it’s killing T1 and the poor unfortunate T2 server who rolls T1, end of story.

Anet needs to revamp the algorithm that determines wvw server size but I guess they collect easy money as band wagoners head to Mag while ushering wvw to its speedy death.

Mag needs to seriously destack if it really wants people to fight otherwise why would you fight that bloated kitten?

I don’t have a TC account so I can’t talk about it to the same extent as Mag and JQ but just in this thread alone I’ve seen multiple people from TC saying that their zergs are going to eotm after they wiped, certain guilds are taking the week off to purposefully tank out of T1, and people already gave up at the beginning of the week when they saw they were in T1.

If anet opened up a full server every time a handful of guilds took a week off the system would be stupid easy to manipulate.

Haha there’s no telling some people…. I’m on TC so what would I know right?? Zerg of 20 TC being wiped by 40+ then logging probably true…that kitten is no fun. Guilds tanking? Our tag is out of town this week or we would be raiding. TC wasn’t tanking in T2 and doesn’t have the numbers to compete cept our ppk kept us afloat…but keep your story going cos it will mean that you have no one to fight.

Fact! T1 is no fun with a truck ton of mag pouring down on 20 people and BG painting our bl with their colour….if TC had numbers to compete we would but we can’t field the numbers-it’s that simple. And not going to get any cos TC locked.

Yesterday 3 friends from Mag complaining once more that their guilds cant get fights cos they are too fat with pugs following….guess that’s bs too right??

Give players a bonus for staying on a server.. have loyal tiers like kittens and give players an increased bonus for staying on a server. Every reset (2 months) bump thm up a level till they reach a max level of something like 5. When ppl transfer they go back to level 0.

Bonus can be WvW exp and MF.. special reward tracks.. access to certain WvW traits unless they have a certain level.

Having a certain loyal ranking can start giving XP towards a special reward track (like something unique for WvW.. skins: weapons/armor/legendary gear/title)

Something to stop bandwagoning or at least make ppl think twice before moving to another server is surely a healthy step forward.

Yah Dusty but there are counters to those….

There’s no counter to being out numbered on your server in a lopsided matchup. The destructive bandwagoning along with professional balance is killing wvw big time. It seems at times that Anet encourages this by opening a bloated server like Mag who rolls over everyone and everything.

There really should be a limit on how many people can transfer to a server in a given period of time. Won’t happen though Anet needs those gems bought.

Commanders have to deal with pin snipe all day everyday so the dev’s should experience that too!
But valid point in that they do get swamped with chat and whispers when they do appear so they are probably all running incognito. I hope they are doing this on every server and in comms so that they can experience first hand what players experience and therefore make some improvements to wvw.

It would surely give us more confidence if we knew that devs regularly ran in wvw and appreciated what made wvw fun.

Can confirm about the transformation often being a trigger for an invisible toon and thereafter the “loading bug”. Has happened to me coming out of lich form and most recently out of a golem!! The golem thing happened to the guildie who took the golem after me too…

1. Population balance. Linking didn’t work. Locking servers didn’t work. Anet needs to either lower map caps, close maps, force 2v1 so that stack to win isn’t the meta anymore.

2. Skill balance. The reason for the decline lately is the fact that lower numbers cannot win against higher numbers. Damage mitigation needs to go. You should have to actively heal and cleanse to show you have some skill in WvW. Make it fun to play WvW when you are outnumbered.

3. Rewards. I don’t mean higher rewards for the stacked. I mean rewards for those that play a long time. More rewards for those that are outmanned. Rewards that can be used in PvE that will encourage PvE players to join WvW. Make EotM rewards take way longer than WvW rewards.

4. Treat WvW like it is core to GW2. If WvW is core to GW2 then have better communication with the players on the forums, fix known bugs with the maps quickly to show us that you treat WvW as core to GW2. Stop shifting WvW resources to the next PvE release so that only the easy and quick fixes get released in WvW. Invest in WvW. Fix the lag issues. If you can’t fix lag when it’s 80v80, but it works good enough when it’s 50v50 then change the map cap to 50. Of course you could look at changing the skills and skill effects so that lag happens less in WvW.

5. Make me want to play WvW again.

^This sums it up pretty well

1. Pop balance
2. Skill balance specific for wvw game mode
3. Skill lag – reduce map caps or all the kitten the server needs to compute. Some days lately wvw is unplayable.
4. Unique ascended rewards for wvw plus rewards for long term wvw players
5. Fix the memory leak that causes the crippling wp bug and degradation of character rendering .

Reward is not going to bring back people who left wvw and GW2. Rewards in wvw game mode should be on a par with pve/pvp but that is actually a secondary consideration for most wvw players who come to wvw for the rvr and fights. And as for adding a third tier of defence in smc….please for the love of wvw no! No more gimmicks and siege.

As people have said through this thread, fights are no longer fun due population imbalance, professional balance and the boring meta….there is much of value for Anet to read here if they are willing to work on wvw. Fluff and defence are not high in demand by the majority.

The fact that the game mode isn’t doing well has a little to do with the braindead additions they have made to it, but that’s not really the biggest issue. People keep talking about new maps, new rewards, new this, new that.

None of that matters if the fights are not fun.

The leader of my havoc guild used to make really cool videos from WvW footage, showcasing guilds on our server and so on. She recently came back and wanted to record fights and make new videos. What she found, however, is that the footage was boring as hell because the fights were boring as hell.

There is no balance, no diversity. It’s all particle showers and skill spam. Use whatever is off cooldown and let your passives take care of the rest. There is no push and pull, none of that “he used X so I’ll use Y”. There are no turtle guards who sacrifice damage for survival, instead there’s DH that has both. Or Daredevil. Or Scrapper. Or Berserker. Block block block evade evade evade invuln invuln invuln. 8k, 9k, 12k crits per skill.

WvW is all about the fights. The objectives, the map design, it’s all there to encourage encounters with the enemy. So when the experience of those encounters is nothing but the same condi-passive-block bullcrap over and over and over, is it no wonder that people leave?

The solution lies not with the WvW team, but with the apparently non-existent balance one.
